Um… No. I’ve made this argument before in the past over AP: you have a legendary weapon (read: you have a dagger made of flame, staff made of rainbows, etc.) You get awesome foot steps, you don’t need a title. Legendarys are fun because there is no reason to need one, once you start rewarding people for getting legendarys people will start feeling forced to get them.

Well actually you can see that crafting ascended components for example Bolt of Damask is much cheaper than buying them on TP. Why ? Because time is money. You are literally buying time for gold.

I think it is a great idea. Game give you a choice of saving some gold but spending more time on crafting your gear or spending more gold but saving a lot of time.

You can compare it to some simple things in real life like making a meal. You can go to shop, buy ready meal and just cook it in a pot. In most cases it will be more expensive than buying every single ingredient but you can save some time in exchange for money.

You’re absolutely correct, I believe it is called a convenience premium.

Idk, I’m small fries compared to Wanze but I still made 80g in a little more than an hour. Buying 500 of T2-T5 snowflakes, forging them, opening boxes, rinse and repeat. (Tbh I just wanted the endless tonics though)… I’m actually really excited for the sigils though, with any luck the next generation will start forging while prices are low.

Once again, you can still do the activities and get the rewards the exact same way as the old dailies.

That is an absolute LIE. I cannot get the awards “EXACT SAME WAY”.
I have to go to a specific area to do a specific chore, before you could complete activities while you were playing in the area that you wanted.

The daily achievement chests are IN ADDITION TO the daily reward which is NOW given to you for logging in.

If you never do another daily again, you will still continue to get the old daily rewards because they are funneled into your account on login.

Thanks for confirming it’s not exactly the same way.

You get the rewards for logging in. Then you can kill 30 ambients and make yourself feel good about doing things the old way for no reason despite the fact that the new way is vastly superior in every conceivable way.

so instead of about 10 dailies for PvE we have just 4 really specific dailies and you call that superior?
i think you’re missing the point on what superior actually entails.

I’m going to suggest that you look at the slightly larger picture: If I want to spvp all day with the new system I can, with the old system I couldn’t (Assuming I felt obligated to fulfill dailies as some people do).
Now look at wvw depending on how you define/play wvw you could finish the dailies in wvw but only through pure PvE aspects (Ambient, Daily kills). Where as with the new system it actually encourages wvw players to defend, scout, and zerg.

Unfortunately the vocal portion of the population stems from PvE and you guys feel like the system is a kick in the teeth. Now, some of the achievements should be made a little more general: world bosses for one seems like a bad idea given the time schedule, but most of them are just as varied as the others. (Varied meaning that a vista in Ascalon and 10 logs in kryta are about as different as killing a sentry and taking a keep.)

As someone with arthritis, I would appreciate this so much. But then I also desperately want a follow button so I could give my hand a rest when playing with my wife, which is whenever I play.

Unfortunately the follow thing was ruled out at launch. However otherwise I agree that it is dumb to click the same thing over and over again. (ToT bags, Wintersday Presents, Luck, bags of gear/champion bags)

This may not be what you want to hear but the new dailies are intended to get you out of your comfort zone, if that means playing a new class most people are willing to do that. If you don’t want to change classes then you’ll just have to go to WvW and kill a sentry.

If you’re intent on only doing PvE, then you’ve got a self-imposed restriction that is making it more difficult than it needs to be for you.

Really. Tell that to the friend I knew a little time back who has cerebral palsy and can only use one arm/hand (with poor coordination, at that).

Sorry but there are still 12 choices and now you only have to do 3… not choosing something is not the same thing as no choice.

With only 4 choices in each category, you may find yourself forced to go in WvW or PvP if you can only make 2 in one category.

At least with the old system you had a lot more choices.

•A new Daily Completionist achievement has been added and is earned by completing any combination of daily achievements from the three categories.
•Completing the Daily Completionist achievement rewards players with 10 achievement points.

The vast majority of your player base is PVE only. A lot of this player base want to be able to get achievement points the way they want to. Not the way YOU want them to.

Trying to coerces the vast majority of your player base into game styles they utmostly despise is a VERY BAD idea.

If you do not change that, I predict you will loose a good chunk of your PVE player base.

I am a bit confused over all the rage… at first you get 5-8AP for 5-8 dailys and a standard reward assuming u did not wvw or pvp.

The new system gives you 10AP for 3, plus additional rewards, plus a reward for just logging on. There is 4 PvE related dailys that are slighly more specific, you don’t have to step out of PvE to get your daily and you get more rewards.

How do people still find a way to complain about this?

This… To OP: “daily completionist” only requires 3 achievements of 12 (4 in wvw, 4 in PvE, and 4 in PvP). You don’t have to leave PvE for your achievement points.

Berserker's or Assassin's for casual PvE?

To OP : Go zerker, especially if you are casual with exotic only. In your build you didn’t choose any stats for your weapons so it should be 63% crits chance. Rune of the Ranger is a bit less dps, but if you play casual Ranger could be more dps since the buff is always there. Either are good it depend on what you prefer.

Rune of the Ranger is a bit less dps than what? I am currently using Ranger Runes but been trying to up dps so it might help me.

Two words. Casual guild.

There are many helpful guilds in this game. That doesn’t mean you’ll get to run whatever you want, whenever you want, but I’ve yet to see someone need something in my guild that wasn’t helped out by others.

Trying to LFG instead of joining a guild of like minded players is the problem here.

No, the problem is the lack of incentive and anti-group ideology. I’ve sent lots of invites out to people, but if I don’t know them and randomly send them out, tons of people either don’t accept or decline – does this mean that I have to work to become buddies with each person until I have some people in a guild, just so I can get a working dungeon run?

I have only a few people in my guild, lol about 4, but I’ve sent upward of 20-30 invites out and when I check the guild page, most people don’t even know they have one! The fact that invites are hidden until you open the guild panel may be part of the problem, but I don’t see why a guild must be mandatory for dungeons to be playable. I know they are playable without, but again I point to time spent in LFG, off-peak player population being an issue and of course not everyone in a guild is on at the same time, nor may they wish to all do the same thing.

The way I see it, is that incentive for other more experienced players to return can only be a benefit for everybody, whereas doing nothing and bypassing this player decline issue, isn’t going to help anyone at all and instead put people off. Right now, aside from just having to find waypoints, POI and JPs, I’m finding it quite boring trying to get groups together.

Also, shame on those selling dungeon runs to people wanting to finish them… that is ridiculous.

I believe Vayne meant join a guild… Not start your own. (Which BTW I agree with vayne on). Second: Casual should not be confused with small and tight knit. Casual should be interpreted as large guild filled with new players and generally helpful vets. That doesn’t care or at least doesn’t enforce the meta.

I’m not sure what dungeon selling has to do with your topic… But those sellers provide a service believe it or not, most of the people selling Arah solo/duo that content. If they weren’t selling you’d be here complaining that the Arah LFG is always empty

I can craft anything except Mawdrey or anything else that requires pristine Fractals. Why? Because I do not like running fractals and you can only obtain Pristine fractals by running fractals.

See where this is going?

Mawdrey is a luxury item, specific gear sets should not be. Its the same reason a lot of people don’t like ascended gear since it requires crafting instead of having a variety of methods.

@Arantheal thank you for your general tips, much appreciated, if you can do that, why can’t GW2, BEFORE its to late that is XP also I’m referring to the Season 2 story achievements, even if someone was willing to help me when I ask, it doesn’t excuse how hard some of them are, like beating the boss without getting hit once, give me a bloody break, and with every new episode, you’re bound to get one like that

You actually should be getting an email usually a few hours after the patch comes out if not: there’s a setting somewhere that you need to go change.

The achievements aren’t generally supposed to be easy… But yea, a great example is the caithe one where you can’t get hit by the charges or knockdowns. (Especially since the AI companion isn’t invulnerable.)

Life itself is repetitive, me boyo….

I think by the age of 47 I’m well aware of that. LoL I’m talking about a game that uses repetition to make up for a lack of actual original content. It’s a 2 year old mmo game that has been slowing down on content delivery since it’s first year but with the game’s makers trying to make us believe we are getting a lot. It is for nothing I suppose but it isn’t really for nothing due to the game ship and even at that I would rather pay for guaranteed substantial content.

I doubt you played a whole lof ot mmos by the sound of it.Gw2 compared to many other mmo’s handles this “repetitive gameplay” very well.. Take a look at archeage or Tera for e.g,Then you can talk about something being repetitive up to the point its becoming painfully obvious the devs were just being lazy.

In fairness archeage is ftp (I think tera is too but idk). We’re talking about an AAA game, so it should be compared to other AAA games.
Although I otherwise agree that the repetition is more prevalent in many other games than gw2. (With exception to time gated crafting)

Seriously though, you guys can’t honestly come to us and say “we’re T1 because we’re better than you” because I guarantee T1 have statically just as many kitten players as everyone else (read: population wise a heck of a lot more). The only difference is that your kitten (read: bad) population is still big enough to form a zerg, while on my server T4 we’re lucky if we have a tag on any map outside of EB. (Tag meaning commander and enough people to need one: I.E. 5+) during the week.

I’d prefer the removal of WvW from map completion entirely. I imagine it’s a nightmare for people that only play PvE.

Agree with this. Have completion for one character & still play world vs world on a part time basis.
Also understand the idea is to get people into world vs world, yet players with no interest in this format of the game are kittened.
Generally the easiest opportunity is when your server is lucky enough to be on the dominating end of lopsided world vs world rounds.

How do you guys feel about players who wvw exclusively though? Are we not allowed to like shinies? We have to go PvE if we want any shiny weapon, and yet we don’t make forum posts complaining (largely because we realize we’re the minority)about being locked out of dungeon skins, or luminescent skins (specifically referencing things available in Spvp, because Spvp still does not equal wvw).
Yet you’re complaining about 4 maps:
76 Points of Interest
13 Skill points
40 vistas.
25 Waypoints (All given btw)
and yet…
There are
301 hearts (Not included in wvw)
646 Points of interest (722 total- 76 listed above)
189 skill points (202 total- 13 listed above)
226 vista’s (266 total -40 listed above)
482 Waypoints (507 total – 25 listed above)

Total all that up (using totals)= Hearts + POI’s+ SP+ V’s+ WP’s =1998 things need for map completion.
Things need for wvw map completion = Hearts (0) + POI’s (76) + SP (13) +V’s (40) +WP (Functionally 0, but i’ll give you the benefit of the doubt 25)=154

154/1998= roughly 8%
You guys (PvE’ers exclusively) have to play 8% of the game you don’t like to get your legendary (or your achievement, what ever the motivator is). We (WvW’ers exclusively) have to play 92% (more than 11 times as much) of the game that we don’t want to for our legendaries (I don’t know a single WvW’er who actually has the nerf to say “I just wanted the achievement” so…)
And guess what: we do it, we might cuss and moan to our guild mates, but we do it. So, like I said earlier:

If you want legendary but don’t want wvw: Buy the kitten.
If you don’t want legendary but want map completion: Deal with the kitten
If you want map completion but refuse to deal with the kitten: Live without the Kitten.

Besides like someone else already mentioned just wait till next week. Every keep/tower will become soloable with the removal of white swords. If the person asking for help is on such a low tier that they don’t have a K-train it’s a safe bet that the servers they’re against don’t have enough people to keep scouts posted on every wall.

Wait until next week where you’re more likely to find someone waiting for you than now when people can rely on swords to react to?

And when points per kill becomes a thing so hunting down PVE players who are simply trying to get map completion and don’t know how to/aren’t built for PVP fights is actually a strategy that will benefit your server?

My comment was focused at tiers with very few people, next week won’t make a difference in how many scouts are on the map in those tiers. PPK again only applies to people who play wvw, on a low tier server you might get ganked a few times (not gonna lie about that), but that’s pure luck (or in this case lack of luck) running in to someone else. Right now you have a signal fire that lets everyone on the map know where you are, versus might run in to you.
~Not a perfect solution, but it’ll make it slightly easier for small tiers.

As a side note: If you’re trying to get wvw map completion the hours leading up to reset can be some of the best times to try and cap things, because most people are gearing up for the next matchup already and not paying attention. Especially if 1st place has already been decided.

TBH, the only way to reasonably do it without just removing WvW from exploration requirement entirely, and actually should be done just for the sake of education, is to make “Learner” maps, where you are either invincible or instanced, give you access to everything in there, which lets you explore the map, and then remove “Live” WvW maps from the requirement.

This aids in two ways. First, people would get to get their exploration without having to do something they don’t want to do, and people who are on small servers don’t find it ludicrously difficult to get completion because they don’t have a server that can cap things.

Second, it gives a place for people who are new to WvW to explore keeps and towers and figure out the layout of each, where is defensible, where is attackable, etc, without the constant threat of being attacked at any point or wasting their server’s supply/siege by putting something in a bad place.

To help with the second, a “Training Siege” item could be added, for free from vendors in the training maps, where you can put out a siege site that requires no supply, so you can test things like just how far a catapult can reach, or the areas you can hit with an arrow cart, or whatever. That siege would obviously do 0 damage, so you couldn’t take it to live maps.

Myself and many others have managed world completion without “safe passage”, ANet doesn’t need to breast-feed you just because you can’t keep up with WvW.

Did you do it on a server so dead in WvW that it’s a struggle to even get a handful of people in against servers that can just blob you if you try to take something that you need for world completion? Your vitriol would be a bit more substantial if every server was equal in population and representation.

This has been discussed in great detail, however all it would really do is allow people who do wvw to have invulnerable scouts. That could follow the zergs around with little to no repercussions. After Filaha’s post usually someone comes along and suggests that while you’re invulnerable you’re color neutral and can go through any portal. However especially with the new changes coming to wvw next week letting scouts sit in the towers/keeps is an awful idea because we would know when our opponents have scouts and when they don’t.

How to create profit from WvW ?

They can spend a week developing XYZ content for WvW that will be purchased by a small number of players or spend that same time developing XYZ content for PvE where an order of magnitude number of players will buy it.

They know how to monetize their game and I am guessing if WvW fell completely off ANet would hardly notice.

WvW is so distinctive and dramatic. Big zerg fights look very cool and unlike anything else in the game. It’s hard to imagine ANet would not miss something that makes the game look that good on video.

Looks good=/= makes money. (Wow is kind of proof). Unfortunately that’s why this thread exists, because most of us realize Anet doesn’t need wvw.

Ok, at first I was against this, but now I think it will be a nice change, (I play on gunnars hold). Anyhow, I personally think this will be a cool change, it will allow us to compete with the bigger servers we face because, as soon as white swords appear you get blob raining down on your 5 man havoc squad, and as a result you got 0 chance of ninjaing t3 towers/other things.

Personally I think you are all stomping your feet and being ungrateful for them finally starting to implement new things for wvw, sure it may only be a small change now but it gets the ball rolling. So instead of being ungrateful and blissfully ignorant about a change that has yet to be implemented into the game, why don’t you play it when the feature becomes live and then make a judgement based on experience, as opposed to being like this on a forum. It’s odd that when our game mode finally gets some well deserved attention, you guys try to ruin it by insulting the people responsible for the content of said mode.

The problem with that thought process is this: We have 5 people, they have 15. Soloing/Duoing towers just became 100% easier. So if we split up into 2 groups (2 and 3) we can take two towers at a time which is good and anti zerg. However their group of 15 can still take 3 towers in the time that we took two (because they have the resources to drop 3 rams at each tower) So yes you now have a chance to ninja T3 towers/keeps, but don’t pretend it will give you a fair fighting chance against a bigger server, it’ll give you (the player) the benefit, however not your server, unless you took those towers within 5 minutes of the point tick it’ll do nothing for your server).

“Well deserved attention”~ It’s fairly common knowledge that this change came from the “Adopt a Dev” program, and instead of giving us the time of day to address server imbalance for lower tier servers, all they did was encourage T1 blobbing. As for stomping our feet over a change, most people are happy about the PPK, it’s the white swords that just seem dumb and punishing towards small servers. (I can count on one hand the times this week where I haven’t been the only person on my server’s home BL, and yet the solution to this new problem is “having scouts and people watching the towers/keeps”)

Side comment: did anyone else pick up on the fact that these rules are going to exist for roughly 30 days (Dec. 16th- to roughly mid January). Which means we have 16 days to be kittened before the posts most commonly visited will be pushed into “necro” territory?

They have the money they need. They’re simply not listening to the community about how to spend it. I have to agree with Guhracie on this one, if they came out and said “we need money” I would only be willing to donate if they figured out the things that need to be changed (communication being number 1).

Everything in this game is soloable with enough time. Tbh it sounds like you got pummeled by someone who put a lot of time in to their skill.

Certain bits sound like it could have been hacking but without more information I’d say it was a very skilled player.

Why would a WvW player complain about if it turns out they like it better, or are the ones asking for it?

If this was directed at me: I am simply saying that in order for them to change the rules back (or keep them out) they would need a massive community out break of complaints. (Something extremely unlikely to happen.)

Yea, you can ‘craft’ them with a level 0 artificer. 5 tens=1 50, 4 50s = 1 200.

IDK what is the problem with trying something. If it doesn’t work for the majority it won’t stick. At least they do try. Seriously, no matter what they do they are doomed with people like us.

It’s quite simple actually… Most of the people in these forums are tired of being ignored by “The powers that be” . (Not just wvw but pve players, because when they implement something that really sucks (NPE, Traits, Ghost wolf, gem exchange) they refuse to change it till they realize it will hurt them (gem exchange))

The wording doesn’t matter, unless they get every wvw player to complain about this it will be a permanent change. Even then they might ignore us in hopes of eventually being able to delete wvw sub forum.

No…. For a few reasons actually
1) 300g isn’t hard to get if you’re willing to play the market or expand your comfort zone. Believe it or not the best commanders actually do have PvE experience.
2)Making the tag require ranks/badges is worthless. You said it yourself EotM and PvE commanders are walking lootbags. Guess where most people go if they want to get wvw ranks though? It’s EotM. (Side note: I have been playing wvw as my main game mode in gw2 since launch. Yet I can guarantee most people are well above me rank wise though because I don’t K-train, and I don’t EotM)
3) Most people might only use their tag for one or the other, but plenty of people use it for both (myself included). If you make those people pick they’ll be very unhappy, and if you give both tags to them you don’t really solve the problem either. So…

3) point, no way.. People don’t deserve WvW/EOTM tags, and they can be experienced as much as they want, it’s the map that you should understand not the PVE, and for the record, i believe splitting PvE and PvP would make more people happy than angry because the number and damage that PvE players do in PvP, is astronomic.

There are in average 15-20 commanders during day, they tag up and tag down next fight or in next 15 min…

I would let people keep the tag, but they would be unable to tag up in PvP if they are not rank 600+

Go ask in your EB whatever server you’re on: "Does wvw rank determine A. Skill in wvw, B. Knowledge of wvw maps, C. Does it make you automatically a wvw (or non-pve player).

The answer you’ll find is no: because all 3 points are mute on the same thing: EotM. I guarantee that guy who leveled 64 80’s in Eotm is a Pve player. In the same breath I’ll tell you he is above rank 600. Not a single one of the things I mentioned (out of assumption of what you mean by ‘deserve’) is met by that guy.

Take a different example: Me. I commanded at launch extensively for a few months and I know the maps better than most people (rank not really mattering). However I changed servers, quit multiple times, got a life. Now I solo roam and largely avoid popping my tag (why would I on a regular basis, PPT doesn’t matter with current matchups) and you’re going to tell me I don’t deserve to pop my tag when I decide my server actually can use a tag? (If you didn’t pick up on it (I am<600))
Tacking this with that thought : Every single person who paid $ for their tag at launch did it for wvw. Most of those people have quit by now because Anet failed to fulfill what they wanted, let’s say they come back the day after this suggestion gets put in. You kittened off a bunch of $ paying customers. (In case you didn’t know, wvw rank was not with us at launch)

I think you might be confused: most of the lag (at least that I’ve been hearing about is in wvw) which has nothing to do with PvP bonus weekend.

It’s out of WvW now, I can’t do dungeons nor PvP without being slammed with lag.

Oh, lovely. My apologies then.
Although actually on topic: it would be nice if they’d tone down the buff a little and then give it to us more frequently instead of like 4 times a year. (Then at least with the lag it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to get hit once)

Add a feature that allows guilds or a X numbers of players from other servers to “invade” a server to a “specific” map (could be random from time to time) warning players about that, so pver’s avoid going there and by that making the game have REAL OPEN PvP!

Do not want this at all. The potential for abuse and griefing is huge.

I like how our (WvW’ers, so not including you most likely) game mode is virtually DYING and your first thought directed at a potential solution is “this could be inconvenient”

Did you actually read the full suggestion?

The suggestion isn’t “Let other servers join a server in WvW”. It’s “Let people gank in PVE maps”.

Gank with warning.
Now in fairness I imagine this would be done on a shard (or single map) of the actual map (multiple when necessary). Meaning if you don’t want to be ganked you taxi to a PvE map. And continue with your merry little map completion (or K-train). Whether that was how it was intended in the suggestion idk.

I really like the idea of using leveling tomes instead of level 20 scrolls, I have no need for level 20 scrolls but I still want to level my mesmer by never playing her. (Kind of kidding, but seriously only thing mesmers are good for are portals in jumping puzzles.
