mesmer is not "psi" enough

in Mesmer

Posted by: DavyMcB.1603

DavyMcB.1603

I’ve always been bothered by how mesmer always feels like a purple version of thief with some wacky mechanic but it’s never enough to make it stand out on its own. When chronomancer came, it increased the ‘wackiness’ quite a bit but the base class overall still feels rather meh.

In my opinion, mesmer needs way more unconventional skills. If there’s going to be another elite I spec, I’d rather it has something like

1. A skill that temporarily steals enemy’s stat
2. A skill that makes enemy suffers % of damage done to them in the past 5 seconds again
3. A skill that makes enemy hostile to all targets
4. A skill that makes enemy friendly to all targets
5. A skill that makes enemy take direct dmg to their health based on the damage done to you
etc etc

Something along that line, something that’s not numeric like dps meter or boons machine

I have been playing boon corrupt necro for a very long time. And I think I am really good at it since it is the only spec i feel confidence with it. I once hold off against 2bunker tempests and a shout gd in stronghold until time ran out. They werent able to kill lords and kept duing because of the boon strips. Now, all heavy def amulets are gone and we got 10x more boons currption.

This change is too good. It will be nerfed. I am SURE of it. So enjoy it while it lasts.

[Elite Spec Sugg.] The Shapeshifter

in Ranger

Posted by: DavyMcB.1603

DavyMcB.1603

Terribad idea. It’s been discussed over and over, giving a %age of stat from pet would make the ranger situationnally game breaking. Beside the game would be healthier without these kitten transformation skills.

Let’s take a simple example :
I take bear and shapeshift from your spec. I now gain 2550 vitality which is roughly 25 000 health point. And since I’m stupidly focus on a vitality build I’m now a ranger with 5000 vitality for 10s every 15s which mean 55 000 health point.

I also hard cap at the same time my crit chance and my power because I use rune of exuberance to gain 350 power and 250 precision, gain 750 to prec and power from the transformation and round up what I need with proper food that gain from vitality.

Did I said that I also had 3k toughness on top of that? Yeah, the ranger by pressing your I-win button is now a world boss.

Now, You’ll probably say that it’s not an issue since the ranger hit like a wet noodle… But you know, I have elementalist friends that absolutely like when I do stupid things like that so they give me the lightning hammer/frostbow/fire axe/fiery greatsword to consciensiously destroy everything in front of me.

And that’s not the only issue… I figured out that by using this elite spec there are trait that are meant to support my pet that are now useless, so as a good ranger I’ll complain that they need to be removed and replaced by trait that support a gameplay that don’t rely on pet and if in the process they could add a button to completely remove the pet it would be even greater…

That’s why numbers always need balancing. Key idea is that the Fusion mode gives ranger a temporary powerful mode. In my head , the final stats result overall after fusion should be more like 10seconds of 50-60% effectiveness of full celestial gear with more stats strength on what you already equip. Meaning, if you run berserker and you fuse with tiger, you will gain “some” other stats while your offensive goes up “noticeably” for 10 seconds. And then we have cool down balancing. Also, don’t see why pet traits can’t function while fusing. Say, if you take natural healing, for the time of the fusion, you are effected by that trait. If you cast “guard” while fusing, you gain protection. Etc etc. Shouldn’t be hard to code. But honestly, if you already decide to trade pets existence for a while for combat boosts, it also makes sense that you give up those pets traits for rhe same duration. Cuz you know… Balance & tradeoff (did you read that I said pets are only disabled during fusion?). Do you know that Signets necros can’t use signets while being in shroud? No one seems to complain. And also by your logic, we should remove ele attunement and engi kits cuz i mean, aren’t they the exact same mechanic that I propose with this spec? Lol

Tengu was meant to be playable race but they ran out of time. It will only make sense if it’s added in the next expac.. I mean.. Dominion of Winds is sitting right there. I’m more interested in whether we will get Bubbles though. That one will probably come with underwater combat overhaul which is probably now or never at this point.

Grab a gun and headshot in-between the eyes. That’s how you shatter diamond skin. Consider using phoenix force for more extreme measure.

In all seriousness, tempest can spam auras. That’s perma protection, which is now 40% reduction, on top of regen and vigor and other -dmg% gear. And the heal. Diamond skin is a very smelly, stinky icing on a rotten pile of cake.

It tells a lot when a very specific spec is mandatory and everywhere in the matchup.

There are other 9 people who are willing to stay ready and stick to their monitor for the match. If you have to afk, you afk. If you’re not ready, you’re NOT ready. 9 other people are. The system is working the way it should always have been. Some people need some lesson on social responsibility.

As for the DC case, I think grace period for 1-2 minutes are enough. In fact, leaving your match 30 seconds is more than enough to wreck the team rotation and causes snowballing loss. It doesn’t matter if you’re gone for how long, point is, you contribute to the loss factor. And that’s more than enough for dishonor.

System seems fine for me.

Generic false assumption.

A few good players teaming up together to bypass team arrangement, making team composition skewed. That’s pretty much as far as it goes. It takes a lot more than just being in the party to be a premade. And it’s usually obvious since the first few seconds if you’re up against REAL premade: where each of them heads to, class combination, spec combination, confidence & aggressiveness, etc.

Real premade are still not that abundant in PVP. I play almost every day and maybe I face a full premade once every two weeks.

I’m sure they will be adjusted when the next big balance patch hits, which might take a while. I’m gonna guess that it’s coming with raid or pro league. The thing about DH traps is that even though they are broken, they are not over-the-top kind of broken, e.h. lingering light etc. So it’s more about “how much” should they be adjusted in term of damage and numbers which is going to take a while. They need to see how best people can adjust to it before taking nerf hammer. It’s the ele’s burn level of problem.

Revenant way to over powered

in PvP

Posted by: DavyMcB.1603

DavyMcB.1603

The class obviously seems far from being fine-tuned but that needs time. Honestly, everything about rev seems fine to me (I don’t play it) pvp wise except the kitteng hammer that hits 2.5k base damage on zerk gear with 1.2k range on 2sec CD. If Unrelenting Assault is on the tip of Himalayas, Hammer#2 is at the opposite edge of the universe. That’s how over the top it is. I run a cleric druid with a lot of defensive trait and that skill took 70% of my HP in a blink.

And the hammer auto hits way too hard for a class that’s not specialized in range. Even LB ranger can’t hit that hard.

There is nothing wrong with revanent. Its a L2P, this is exactly what happened with Pew Pew rangers when they got a distance and dps boost.

Also me and another revanent tried to kill a druid and couldnt do it today. The other rev was a support and didnt do any dmg but they were giving me constant heals. Im running rune of strength with zerker amulet and fire and sigils on my hammer. I had around 20 stacks of might and constant fury and i couldnt kill this druid. Didnt get this druid health to 50% which is fine to me since i was the only one with dps and it meant i needed to move on.

This is a style of play people are crying about cause no one wants to change anything about there builds. I see DH complaining about revanents because of range. I see DH complaining about Pew Pew rangers in game. I see people crying about revenants but the counter to this build is the old meta thieves and mesmers but no one wants to run them since we have new specs.

Seriously right now there are more viable and usable builds then ever but everyone only want to play the new specs.

Couldn’t be any more wrong. Rapid Fire is nothing compared to Rev’s Hammer#2. That skill can basically one shot a glass thief… from1200 range with 2 sec CD. Rapid Fire can’t even do that lol Also, RF has 2sec channel which means enemies can at least mitigate it to some extent. Cascade just creeps under those kitten of AoE effects then BOOM, half your HP gone. Not counting how the auto can hit just as hard as LB without a distance penalty. Even DH’s LB has root penalty on its more powerful skills which don’t even hit as hard.

Rev’s hammer is plain broken in term of damage cheese. Try to justify it if you must but this one will get nerfed soon enough.

I run a cleric druid with a lot of defensive trait and that skill took 70% of my HP in a blink.

And the hammer auto hits way too hard for a class that’s not specialized in range. Even LB ranger can’t hit that hard.

I am 100% sure what the next...

Cop out one sentence and mock it. Typical forum whiner. Refusing to understand and see anything beyond that one particular thing they want.

At least I tried.

My PVE necro heal 600+ hp per second (could reach 1k+ depending on number of surrounding enemies) while in DS because of that trait. Still not accounting the whole Blood Magic line and minions and dagger#2 and so on… It’s not supposed to be a standalone trait, it’s a synergetic trait. It’s like taking Deadly Chill on berserker gear and say its damage sucks.

BB is fine. The only thing missing is Zealot amulet.

Healing design- real talk updated

DavyMcB.1603

Honestly, even if we have access to CA on demand, healing is still pretty much subpar. The game is designed to never have hardcore trinity; hence, the whole combat revolves around that principle. It’s simple, how can you be effective healer when there’s no ally targeting to be used? or you can’t see their HP? You AoE da crap out of your heal hoping that it will heal something or someone. That’s healing for GW2. Fortunately, due to the stacking-friendly environment, it works to some degree. The healing mechanic, though not entirely mediocre, is… kinda meh. It works but it’s nothing to be in awe for.

Action Cam + Sword#1 = Disaster

I really really enjoy action cam on melee spec and I have been using it since HoT launch. But now I ‘ve just been on my ranger and the action cam + sword auto is just a total disaster. If I fight targets with big hitbox, it’s quite alright because the reticle still thinks that I’m targeting things so it keeps me in place. But once i got something around me size or smaller, the AA makes my ranger fly all over the place.

Is this gonna be improved or do I have to live with it for the rest of my GW2 life? lol

God, I explained it once, hopefully you will understand unlike the rest.

People should realize that those precursors on TP, what you see is just their FACE VALUE. The precursors of the old system were purely RNG based in term of their generation, meaning your 1000g spark possibly and probably came from 2000g worth of opportunity cost from throwing rares, dungeon boxes wasted, etc. etc. Normally this difference was absorbed by other people who were involved with the generation of that precursors: i.e. people who spent 1000g and still didn’t get the precursors.

When the RNG is gone, the TRUE value of the precursors appears, meaning, there is no one else to help absorbed the cost of the precursors but only the crafter himself. THE SYSTEM COMPENSATES FOR THE LOSS OF RNG by pushing EVERYTHING that used to constitute the value of the precursors through crafting.

ECONOMICS people, it’s not THAT HARD.

Anyone who think precursor crafting would make precursors equal or cheaper than the ones in TP must never have taken or slept through their economics class… or got an F.

Economics is gated behind classes that cost money. They are P2W.

In all seriousness though, it is absolutely, positively ridiculous to expect a bunch of people playing an MMO to understand how economies work. People come from all walks of life and all jobs and talents. No doubt the people who are ignorant of economics have some skill or talent that you don’t.

Be proud of your knowledge of economics, but don’t put down others for not knowing, is what I’m driving at.

I know. I got carried away. But I mean, some people are really refusing to understand even if you shove it in their throat.

You know nothing of economic.

Supply and Demand value is much more important than the said RNG value.
RNG value doesn’t mean anything if there’s no demand for it.

Anet implant this system without considering inflation, and here’s the result after excessively putting selective few mats in insanely high demand (iron ores, platinum ores)

And what did people use to craft those rares to throw in MF to get those precursors? RNG is just one but a very significant factor in the old system. I never stated even once in my post that demand and supply don’t matter. My point was that the price difference was largely contributed by the loss of RNG. Because, if you hadn’t noticed by now, THAT is basically the major difference/transition from the old system to the system we have now. In the old system, the generation equation of a precursors was always attached with chance-based multiplier, be in from chest drop, MF etc. etc. What you see in the old system was loosely their weighted average value based also on their opportunity cost. You had people who spent 3000g and got nothing. Then you had people who threw 4 rares and got spark. Was spark to be based on 3000g or 60 silvers?

Are you so naive to think that in the old system when you see a 1000g spark, it was the true, absolute value of that spark? You’re saying as if demand&supply mechanic is purely arbitrary. And by your logic, the law of supply & demand wouldn’t mean anything if there’s no demand for it too.

Do you know what this situation actually mean? It means the current precursors in Tp are under-priced and if I have golds to spare which you should be glad that I don’t, I would flip all of them and laugh on the pile of golds while you people are complaining how Anet doesn’t do things right.

Nightfury is obviously intended to be a “gold sink” shiny. It’s there to reap the golds from rich people and bridge the gap with the standard player’s wealth which was recently adjusted.

Getting rich people to spend their gold is not a positive thing when it means that they get something cool that other people can’t have.

We’re talking economy. There is no such thing as empathy in that.

It’s fine the way it is. You have enough easy HPs to get 250 point. I just helped my friend get his elite spec fully unlocked yesterday. It was all done in HoT map and not once did we ask help from others except the Vampire Broodmother, that one has clunky mechanic anyway . Leave some challenges for people who want them. If you’re running a zerk thief and have a problem with it, then it’s your problem.

Geee. I’m not a hardcore elitist but HoT is such a refreshment from the bore-fest old Tyrian map. Don’t dumb it down to that level.

I didn’t feel attached to the character but that emphasis on the head exploding is way over the top.

Honestly, if it were up to me to write the story, I would make it so that Trahearne is the one that contain Mordremoth within him at the end. The story makes it so that Mordremoth is physically unkillable. It doesn’t make sense that just because we kill Trahearne the dragon would suddenly be dead. The dragon’s essence should live on, in the dream, inside Trahearne. It should be like the phoenix vs. jean grey thing. And then I will take that opportunity to rewrite Trahearne into something more awesome.

But meh… the writer made his choice.

based on personal observation, as long as it’s <300 you should be OK on any classes. If you’re on a daredevil when dodging is a lot more sensitive, I would say <200 is the right threshold. once it gets >300, any classes will become a problem, especially the one that revolves around instant activation and movements like dodging or blinking, etc.

It’s really hard to conclude because not every spec is equally wellthought out. Chroni is a direct upgrade to shatter mes. Reaper is pretty much a total rework on necro. Dragon hunter is a reborn ranger. Druid is basically a new class. Daredevil is intended to make thief a brawler but instead it makes stealth d/p more effective. Glint is pretty much a requirement for any rev build. And so on..

Rev sword 3 - No counter play?

You can interrupt him during the windup or evade while the attack is being executed. Mes’s sword 2 has pretty much the same evade frame and cooldown, thus the two skills completely nullify each other. Thief with dd can evade easily. Other classes aren’t as lucky, they can def maybe the first 2 UA but if they don’t kill quick, they will have to take it at some points.

Not sure if it can be cast evaded, I’ve tried it multiple times but I think any times I actually evaded it was because I dodged out of range.

Cast what?

Pretty sure you can’t evade the 3/4 second cast of UA.

You can.. It’s just that with normal dodge, you will still get hit because the skill lasts longer than normal dodge. That’s why mes’s sword 2 and daredevil are the only 2( that i know of) that really have effective evade against UA

Edit: I see what you meant. UA is a channelling skill, so even if you evade the first attack, it won’t stop.
