Reset WvW Ability Points [Request]

Guys stop looking down on newer players. It makes sense that they have the ability to reset the points for some kind of cost. Being able to reset on the fly is kind of a bad idea though since it allows people to just open their menu and choose what they need per the situation.

Allowing a reset every 100 ranks or having some kind of timegate or cost to resetting is a very fair request.

Looking down on them?

No, we’re stating facts because we’ve been there. At least now he has thousands of players that can tell him what to pick – when we ranked up we had no idea what to pick. We didnt even know what most of the abilities did, or how good they would be in combat. I personally made many choices that I regretted and had to farm ranks to pick the “correct” one after picking the “wrong” one.

I dont consider it a fair request any more than I would expect to be given 100 agony resist for free when entering Fractals because I am a “new” Fractal player.

[Suggestion] "Hard Mode" for PvE

Waaaaaaaaaaay to easy to exploit if this is open world.

Just be a “hard mode” player and team up with a fully geared player, run around and randomly tag 20% of each mob with your pathetic damage, then let him kill them instantly. If you think the reward would scale with how much you do damage, people will just find a way to tag and have mobs killed faster than the scaling.

Not sure why you’d want to reset indefinetly since it’s like 800 ranks or something to max it out. That’s why few care about the reset of skills. Just like masteries, you get them all and yes, they are account bound (only the skill assignment is per character).

If you made a mistake… well tough luck. Ask people in WvW what to focus on before splurging skills.

Do we have any other class in the game with a skill that can pump out a ~12-14K AoE heal (per person, not total) that also put 30ish stacks of bleed on enemies in the same AoE, on a 25s cd?

fsp had 100 queue today and rest of maps was ~30/50 dunno anymore when exactly but i guess it was around prime time..

fsp always had queue’s but these queues we have now i havent seen them since i had quit basically i dont mind transfering off i dont have server loyality i just want to do WvW i can do it for any server but paying kitten load while i barely play this game nowadays nope thnx..

they should have just made a freaking mega server for WvW just fill up maps like mist and enjoy boom boom.

Queues arent actually that out of line with prepatch some time back. 100+ queue EB, common because people cant be kitten d to play borders. 30+ man to at least one of the borders with a known commander, again pretty common.

The main difference is that theres now enough people to break the overflow map – DBL. No one wanted to play there, its been taboo on FSP (even when home). So if the other maps was full, that was always empty.

The first week of frantic PvErs joining WvW for easy ascended seems to be over anyway. Most probably figured out they actually have to play WvW. Last week was nowhere near it on normal weekdays. During the reset and weekend its always lots of people.

Probably some old remains. For example you can also still see dialogue from the karma system remaining all over the place. Those heart/fist/etc options that remain on open world characters. Anet removed the GUI elements in later patches (your character being a big meanie didnt do anything anyway) but all the character interactions remain.

kitten dark nights in games. It’s what drove me away from ESO.

When I play a game, I want to be able to see what I’m doing. MMOs don’t have the luxury of controlling the day/night cycle.

Games like Skyrim can get away with dark nights because daytime is just a button press away. As someone with limited playtime, I don’t want what time I’m allowed to play to be restricted by in-game visibility issues.

You do know that nights in GW2 only last 40 minutes, right? Thats nothing. Hell they could even shorten the night to 30 minutes and extend dusk/dawn from 5 to 10 mins.

Why do everyone assume pitch black night? Dark_er_ nights would be nice instead of the constant max light full moon setting. 20% darker. Maybe 30% darker. Not 9000% black so you need to dualwield torches just to see kitten 1m in front.

Sylvari = Canon race for GW2 story?

Hrrrmn. It’s obscure whether the Infinity Ball player character is claiming that he or she invented the steam creatures, or whether his or her ‘creations’ were an improvement on Scarlet’s original design. The stuff in the Living Story seasons seems to indicate that Scarlet invented them rather than reverse-engineering some she picked up from Lornar’s Pass.

No its not obscure.

“Wait until you get to know my creations. In my reality, they conquered Tyria.”

We know they existed in Lornars Pass long before Scarlet did anything, that she was interested in the infinity ball and that her inventions was based on salvaged materials.
The obscure part is whether that other reality, dimension or future still exist. Because they said all the things, meaning the infinity ball could literally reach out anywhere anytime.

Since the Lornars Pass steam creatures exist even when not picking the infinity ball, we know it affects all reality anyway. Also those steam creatures are noted to come from portals from the future…

175 is the weekly cap yes… And IMO I think those that reach it are either AFKers or insane, lol. If there was no cap, people would be be logged in 24/7 standing around in spawn.

I’ve played pretty casually (about 2 hours a night) and reached it pretty easy, I think on Wednesday.

2 hours = 24 ticks each day (at 100% effiecency, lets ignore the extra time to reach T3 into that). Friday to Wednesday = 6×24 = 144 ticks.

Meaning you have to tick 10 points an average every single tick every day. That’s not casual unless you are max WvW rank and your server win every skirmish or alternativly you only play on outmanned borders far outside primetime. That may be casual for you, but it’s not really representative for a normal casual in an tier with equally active servers.

So either you’re pretty much doing a perfect outmanned pip run every day or I call kitten on that.

Break Up the Distribution of Claim Tickets

For me it’s a big problem that all the tickets are in the last chest.
Playing several sessions a week, and only able to get close to (not guaranteed to finish) the second chest, means I have to almost quit my job if I want to get more than 10 tickets a week. If I can just get 5 more tickets from the attempt of the second I can at least get somewhere….

How do people do it.. you have to play 2 hours before you start earning pips, and then it takes ages to get somewhere once you start earning pips

I am on vacation so that’s how I do it but that last part is just ridiculous. You dont have to play for 2 hours before earning pips unless you try to gain them AFKing at spawn on logon. About two camps should be enough for T3, which is done in 10 minutes tops. If there is a zerg on the map you can often just go there and leech whatever they where doing to get T3 within the tick.

Ok I’m confused. People in this thread are complaining about how slow it is to gain tickets by afking at spawn and can get them quicker if they just participate?

… wat?

I was pointing out his claim that it take 2 hours before even starting to earning ticks. What are you reading?

Are we playing the same game?
my problem is that every round takes two hours. Within those two hours you need to reach tier 3 or higher. THEN you need to maintain the tier 3 or higher for the remainder period, and only THEN will ticks start coming in. I could start playing when there’s only 20 minutes left on the counter, but I don’t really have the luxury of deciding when I start playing. The problem is, you don’t start earning ticks until the second skirmish after entering WvW, and sometimes the time left in the first skirmish is all the time I have to play. I can get to tier 3 in 5-10 minutes, that’s no problem, but ticks don’t care, ticks don’t start until you’ve been actively playing during the transition of skirmish 1 to skirmish 2.

How much I AFK or how much I am actively tier 6 won’t change the fact I need to play 1 to 2 hours before I can start earning rewards

Uhm, obviously we arent playing the same game since the skirmish is irrelevant to the pip gain. You reach T3 participation and then you get pips (max of what you can get regardless of T3-T6 participation) every 5 minutes. It doesnt matter if its 110 minute left in the skirmish or 10 minutes. You get pips every 5 minutes as long as participation is kept over T3, period.

Even Scarlet wouldnt have gained her fame without the help of the player created steam creatures. Which technically means you are responsible for the dragons waking up.

Skill lag

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Iv also noticed one thing, and that is sometimes some people lag heavily and others are fine. For example there are days when I lag heavy and my commander does not, and days when its the other way. It almost seem like the server has a number of “sockets” and if you are lucky you can connect to the one that is less laggy. It has nothing to do with your connection, its just luck. Also, the lags are inconsistent, sometimes we had lagless or very low lag blob fight and sometimes its just unplayable. This would indicate the infrastructure is under powered and more game servers are using the same physical connection/server thus getting it overloaded.

This really isnt anything strange. We already know that skills are handled serverside. It’s a queue and of course it’s going to be random for all the players – the server will send back info the clients as fast as it can. When it cant… skill lag. Queue clogged, that part of server system chokes. Everything goes to kitten and it take a while to recover. I believe some skills have priority (such as autoattack).

Yeah. At an average tickrate of 5 its like 20 hours to finish diamond, and thats at 100% effiecency, which is practically impossible as its gonna take a tick or two to even start gaining pips. A casual aint gonna finish that midweek at a mere 2h every single day. No way. I am mid diamond now and have played ~4-5 hours a day (on vacation hehe), more during the weekend. Thats 100% active play, only maybe a dozen ticks gotten from “meh I’ll stay these 2 minutes selling stuff before I log”. Its also not one sitting.

Are there statistical tiers to aim for, such as a certain armor/hp/attack/crit dmg. ect?

To help you specifically, no because everyone handles it differently…

In general and IMO, WvW builds should aim for 1500 vitality and 1500 toughness (if you got a high HP class, you can skimp on vitality). Full berserker will only mean two things – power sustain builds gonna kill you before you kill them (especially ranged will probably drop you below 50% hp before you even get in range to hit them back) and condi sustain builds gonna kill you because you’re never gonna bring enough condi cleanse to beat top tier.

Nothing I have seen in WvW has changed my opinion in that the condi engie is superior to power engie in small scale, in the current enemy build ecosystem. In particular it easily beats power when fighting thieves (unless said thief is an idiot, in which case power do fine too). For the power engie to take the lead again it has be very specific enemies, basicly 10+ man guild groups built for heavy melee sustain blobbing and condi cleanse. But then you start to go outside small scale anyway.

As a note that probably 90% of engies disagree with, I’d also say you could try something very simple – toss out that healing turret. Replace with gyro or elixir. See if it changes your odds. No really, just try it lol. When fighting engies, I have seen so many cycle their healing turret blasts… only to end up at +-0 HP because it took too long. Some are great it at, but far from all.

But hes has some points and thats why condi engi for example is not seen as very strong and rarely played.

No, the reason engie isnt seen as very strong is because necro is so much kittening stronger by condi overloading than any other condi build. Ele, engie, guard, warrior etc take your pick they all just dump out 2-3 different condis that is more easily cleansed, especially as groups grow larger. A necro dumping 30+ bleed stacks covered by 10 other random condis, not so much. Most condis get by with their burst stack of a single condi.

It’d be nice if they would add a moon cycles in Tyria. That way some periods would be darker than others. They could even trigger certain events on the darkest periods. Players have to run around lighting torches along paths and roads. They could make it where creatures eyes shine in the dark.

And you could make it even more awesome by bringing out different and stronger mobs at night away from the roads.

Why would you ever choose badges in the chest?!

Coming back, wvw Class?

in WvW

I’d recommend playing Guardian. A must-have class in large organized groups that can hold its own roaming as well.

That require quite a considerable swap in both gear, traits and skills though. A roaming guardian drop like a glass cannon thief in a zerg. Thats not to say it cant be used (longbow backliner can be devastating) but still, its very different if we are talking meta.

If we assume minimal changes, I would instead say that the necro and revenant are probably the ones that can do both decent on the same specs. Ele to a degree, it really depend on the role you take in the zerg.

Warrior is an oddball IMO since it is an excellent small scaler/roamer but in zergs its pretty pointless. No one really call for banners anymore, most zergs have so many tank guardians that its all about attrition.

“Train” here being the keyword. If thats all your commander care about fights will always be like smacking two hammers against each other until one becomes brittle enough to shatter. The scrapper excel as a flanker in a cloud zerg due to stealth, blocks and invoulns and passive abilites thats very good at anti-dps role (such as gankers around enemy zergs). The more compact train the enemy has the better because then they usually wont care as their tail fail.

Acctuly, mesmer is one of best classes(i would prioritize it over revenant) for any group, it has huge boonshare(every single boon in game, with everything but quickness and resistance being 100% uptime for first minute or so of the fight), while providing stability and cleanses and healing along with some of best CC in game.

People are just too stubrn to understand it and most mesmers are not good enough to play it(and lack 1000g to get the equipment).

It is also one of the most boring builds to play in the game (which is saying a lot post HoT), most decent mesmers (in fact most decent players & guilds) have quit / barely play the game rather than play tedious crap like that.

Mesmers has always been the most boring zergers in the game even before that gear existed. Was never the same after the nerf to confusion.

you know, you can follow the commander and the zerg without being in the squad, right?

You know that you get way less rewards and wxp when following a commander while not being in squad, right?

no, you don’t, but you keep believing that

Uh it’s called tagging, just like being in a party if u don’t do enough dmg to a target u don’t get credit. If ur solo your much less likely to get credit for tagging

How does your personal dps change when in a group or solo? for tagging as you say you need to damage a target. Guards have been tagging tons of enemies with their infamous “loot stick” doing miniscule damage for years.

Tagging requires you to do a certain minimum % of the total dmg of the target. If ur in a party or squad you share the dmg contribution of ur teammates. So if u have to do 5% of the total damage to a target to get tag credit, and your solo following a zerg, you might do 2% of the dmg yourself before the zerg kills the target and thus, you get no loot or wxp. Whereas if you do 2% of the dmg in a squad you get all the contribution of ur teammates which is the other 98% of the dmg, thus giving u tagging credit.

There is no such function in GW2 as far as I know, where are you getting these rather precise percentages from?

Shared partcipation assumes that the commander has assigned it and only apply to a max of 1 player per 5 man party (assuming that organisation, 10 peeps max otherwise). Few commanders use it. It also only apply to the party, not the entire squad.

Earn no PIPs while in safe-zone (spawn, that boon that makes you invulnerable).

They can AFK, but they have to AFK outside of spawn, where slippery evulz kitten roamers will have a gankfest. Or they can play I’m ok with either. This also stops most map switching for gaming outnumbered, as they would have to time it to run out of spawn. At least they would have to do something.

Also, I do really hate that I feel like I have to stand afk at spawn for a few minutes waiting for participation to wear off. Would very much love an option/feature/QoL to let the game just calculate it for me, and give it to me when I log out.

This I agree the most with – at least put AFKers in danger if you wanna keep giving them pips. Also increadIbly simple to code – porting from another map has cooldown on pip gain (that covers those wanting to abuse outnumbered) and being invoulnerable will block pip gain after 2.5m (that cover spawn afkers but still allow people to teleport to spawn and run out). Those saying “but I need to poop for 10 minutes, waaaaawaaaaa”, sucks to be you. You can live without one tick or go in the chair.

When you know how to actually use your medium class and how to move around your zerg, it become a powerhouse in terms of flanking manouvers. Thieves are very fast and can pummel strays, engineers are durable brawlers and rangers can support both. All three got tons of stealth to move in and around the backline.

When your main commander squad approach 50 peeps, simply leave and tag up yourself. Only thieves, engineers and rangers on self sustain builds welcome. You dont have to command, but the ability to set a common target in the back and have a sizeable force converge on it can be quite distracting to a zerg.

The WORST problem with new WVW rewards!

Proof of heroics have a ‘consume all’ option.

Maybe proofs do, don’t have any in my inventory right now. Will double check next time I get a chest.

Badges DEFINATELY don’t. I’ve got 280 in my backpack right now, only options are “use” (which uses only 1 at a time) or “destroy”.

Simple solution – dont bloody pick them then. Proofs is worth much more, badges are essentially worthless. Most WvWers are probably sitting on tens of thousands.

Wait have I just hallucinated the current GW2 proof/badge system? Pretty sure consume all is there…

How does the game decide when you are ready to leave WvW? When you wiped repeatedly or when you win easily?

Just curious.

Pips should be based on active gameplay

sigh… it seems like people on here dont read. I literally put escorting dolyak as an example to give pips…

besides, you can prioritize number of pips to emphasize importance. Not everything has to give equal pips. You can make defending stuff reward more pips etc etc etc

Also, I would rather have a wvw with people running around doing things than afkers that just keep increasing and increasing… like that is anyway a better situation that doesnt need fixing.

You see you are still saying doing things. WvW isnt a constant barrage of doing things. It’s a 24/7 war. What you are suggesting is that we segregate the community for doing the things.

Lets take the case of defense. Someone just took the east camp. What do you do? Well the logical thing is this – either they are going north camp or the east tower. Say you head for the tower as it’s T3. You get there, a zerg comes up the hill… You say “zerg heading toward east tower, 40+”. Commander take note and start heading toward your location. Unfortunetly, the zerg heads to north camp instead. They never contest the tower. The zerg sees your zerg coming, chickens out and port to spawn. Our scenario for the first player end there.

In the same time, a single ganker thief on a full trailblazer/dire poison build killed someone that was AFK near the enemy spawn.

Basicly, what you are suggesting is that the first player did no activity whatsoever and didnt play WvW while the second player fully deserves his 1 pip for his awesome challenging kill and WvW activity.

That’s what this sort of point system would cause. Because it’s not bloody easy to say what “attacking” is, what “defending” is or what any activity actually is.

Under the current system, yes the second player would get a little more participation and WxP but chances are both gain the same amount of pips for their 5 minutes spent in WvW, assuming equal rank.

Do you still not see the flaw of your activity system?

[WvW] Gutter Group Self-Sustain Build

The build is a bog standard hammer scrapper with expected stats and skills, thats fine enough.

The problem IMO is that as a “gutter group self sustain build” (I prefer to call it super bombad elite flanker commando instead, but whatever floats your boat) you arent actually offering anything special at all, even for a WvW trash class. With this particular setup you could be replaced with literally any backline or frontline and they would perform better.

It sort of suffer a fatal flaw. The mortar is the only thing that keeps it afloat as a zerger (elixir gun alone isnt good enough for that) as it balances out the melee hammer, but at the same time that prevents you from taking the sneak gyro which is critical as it can allow your gutter group friends to cut like a knife into the enemy backline – its literally what give the scrapper a purpose in a zerg thats not replaced by stock frontliners and backliners. But of course if you do take the sneak gyro on that particular build… you have very weak range.

I would also argue that you need elixir r in the current zerg meta, there are few other skills that can keep up against even just one epidemic and well, the enemy zerg probably bring 20 of them.

Bulwark gyro is debatable, but again if you get into the enemy backline proper, that reflect is incredibly disruptive and can cover other flankers.

No, this is a really bad idea. Because there’s only so much activity that can happen, you are basicly gonna lock points to the players that where lucky enough to be first. That’s not activity – that’s pure luck. If you cant cap a tower because the last enemy tower was just capped by a random group and the enemy goes “meh we aint gonna recap that for 10 minutes”, then what?

WvW is supposed to be about the gameplay mode. The war between 3 servers and how you strategically and tactically work your way around the battlefield, attacking and defending objectives so your server can win and fighting the enemies wherever they are.

This focus on pips is starting to get stupid.

You are contradicting yourself. How are tower capturing, camp flipping, dolyak killing etc etc not a game mode? Because those are literally the whole point of wvw. And in case you dont know, they contribute to wvw match score.

I’m on a tier 1 match and even if we’re roflstomping the other 2, there are still LOT of things to do. Say, if i reward 1 pip for each activity, fliiping a camp, kill yak, take sentry, kill player. That’s already 4 pips. And those are like SUPER abandant things you can do in Wvw. Also, defending tower? +pips. Trying to take tower? Also +pips (those things even count as events).

The only situation where you end up having “nothing to do” is if your setver capture every tower, every keep, every camp, every sentry and every merc base. Even then you can still run dolyak, kill players, defend things and what not.

Think about it. Don’t be biased and get triggered on anything having the word pip in it.

I thought about it and rejected it.

You werent suggesting 1 action bring 1 pip in the OP – you where suggesting a continous method for holding your pips hostage on your previous activity until you did your next activity.

Either way it’s still a bad idea because all it does is creating a toxic enviroment where everything that doesnt generate pips is going to looked down upon. WvW is supposed to be what we make of it. Not just do X to get pip. Pips doesnt improve WvW in the slightest. At least the general participation still give them even if you do something like keeping an eye on a keep for 5 minutes. Would you call that non-participation? Because it doesnt give you defense points, it doesnt give you kills, it doesnt give you any points at all. But it’s still WvW.

Game Client crashes during WvW team battles

Please don’t reply with “Macs are trash” comments.

Uhm… ignoring that, the fact that you are running the Mac client may still be the cause of this issue along with Mac drivers.

I would advice setting all settings to low and see if that changes anything. If it does well your Mac is anemic but the point is, raise each setting after that and see if you can find a particular one that trigger the crashing. I’m guessing it’s gonna be model or texture settings rather than stuff like particles/grass/etc and crap.

Also if you havent already done so, of course update your drivers and repair your game client. Patches can randomly kitten up your game.
