Also, about keep (or tower) fights : some other day, we were a bunch of 5-6 players defending a tower, and another 5-6 players were trying to take it. Who won ? The most skilled ? Nope. Only the ones who go to bed the latest. Yet, there were PvP fights, there were siege fights etc. They were killed ? They spawned back. We were killed ? We spawned back. Until one had to go have dinner, or just left to do something else, or went sleeping. And so the tower fell. This honestly made me feel really bad, because all that defense eventually was pointless.
Which is exactly why flipping at a higher pace is so important to make both sides feel like they did something for balanced PPT. You would have lost the tower much earlier yes, but you would have traded situations – how many ticks could the defenders hold it? One more? When it flips the former defenders will fight to keep the new defenders from ticking more than them, etc. For healthy action, your tower should have flipped like 5 times where it only did it once.
Its when you get bogged down in utterly futile fights with no tactics on either side – one will just keep ticking safe points and the other just need the patience to be logged on longer – that the game become boring for everyone. Because people stop trying. The higher the tier and the more siege, the worse it becomes.

bring back bannering the lord & way points that uncontest between defence events.
Defenders got too many advantages with HoT, it’s moved the fights out of the breached tower / keep and onto the walls where like 90% of the attacking group has to wait idle because they have no way to hit the defenders. Waiting idle isn’t fun.
Walls fights should only last long enough for the defenders to have a shot at arriving in time to defend the lord, not a half hour of trying to breach a keep while everything gets shielded & the defenders have like 1000 supply they didn’t even need to consider spending on upgrades.
Well that will obviously only make defending far, far easier without fixing anything you consider a problem.
You would also have to remove shield gens, nerf claims to the ground, nerf the autoupgrade timings, nerf supply availability and preferably also lower T2/T3 stats considerably. Hell if you kill the tier based PPT we might even fix scoring while we are at it.
That was a funny joke. Asurans not being emotionless and boring… lol.
You are aware of the fact that being patronizing, lecturing, or snappish are emotions as well? You show those by articulating yourself in a certain manner with lots of intonation.
A person (Asura) behaving in any of these ways does not use an unemotional, monotonous (that’s what I meant by “boring”) voice.
P.S. You seem to have trouble understanding that this thread is merely about voice acting.
Then you clearly havent heard the Asurans voiced by the same actor as Trahearne.
I just checked the Wiki entry, and the actor also voiced several Asuran NPCs in the game. I can’t remember any Asuran NPC sounding like that, though (i.e., emotionless and boring).
Hahahahahahahahaaaa… hahahahaba…
That was a funny joke. Asurans not being emotionless and boring… lol.
Is there legendary effects on any phantasm?
So, yes, this is a potential issue.
No its really not. Beating down T3 manually take ages compared to siege. Its just barely usable against T0 for a 50 man. In all scenarios you would also pop swords, ie you cant exactly stealth your way in.
I have like 200 clovers or something just sitting in the bank that I spent 0 gold and 0 RNG on because MF recipes went obsolete long, long ago. Reward tracks give tons of them even when you dont want them. Should really just delete that kitten its worthless sigh…
As soon kitten flips its always under treb attack with walls down like 2min later. I fail to how that is so horrible for the keep owners.
edit: also for once the Anet kittenfilter actually worked decently. SM, kittens, ts pretty much the same thing anyway.
Dont know about the other races but the animation sucks on asura (its just the kitten slow necro greatsword swing). It makes you hover acrpss the ground and looks kittened.
In terms of having an effect on combat, I am more worried about illusionary reversion. Maybe it was just kittenty rotations but I had alot harder time keeping up illusions tonight…
The specific nerf to purge gyro in PvP only was desperately needed.
That thing is wicked and everyone runs with it.
I see all kinds of posts explaining how to get the GoB. However, I’ve seen zero reasons why it is required in the first place. Can someone please explain why a PvE player is required to play PvP? Aren’t we supposed to be able to play the game for fun?
I will explain it to you when you explain why a PvP player is required to play PvE.
Forcing players into it just builds resentment. There may be some who learned to enjoy it, and that’s cool, but is populating a suffering game mode worth driving other players away? There are ways spur WvW activity without tricks or blackmail.
So compared to WvW, are you saying we arent forced into PvE to get that gift?
Wait what have I even been doing running around with world exploration, where can I buy the gift for zero effort?!
If EB gets that, maybe ABL should get an awesome secondary objective where you have to escort some sort of powerfull object to hills or bay from the north camp!
I’m a genius.
But this is on EB. Who even cares about EB? All the pros are on DBL.
Maybe WvW should use the same gear system as PvP, or something similar, to balance things out more. Maybe limit the stack size of conditions you can put on other players? I’ve seen videos of players getting hit by epidemic, receiving 50 or more stacks of bleeding, on top of around the same amount of confusion, and a whole mess of other conditions, thus downing the player in an instant and killing them a second later.
or change epidemic to an actual condition that pulse 1 of all your conditions AoE per second. That way it can be cleansed and its attrition based rather than burst.
Either way, epidemic isnt even the problem here. Deathly chill is. You only require a few necros to reach your 50 bleed stacks. 10 necros in a zerg today is the eqvivalent of 30 necros prepatch. That is the problem.
You can never design something with universal appeal.
I beg to differ and present you the following evidence: kittens.
If you have Nvidia, you can just use Shadowplay (if you actually use constant record function and have an SSD, I would recommend a ramdisk as temporary save folder).
So we want to get gift of battle by doing more PvE? Hmm… hmmmmmm…
You get 1 token daily by completing the Obsidian Sanctum puzzle and need 250 tokens to buy the gift.
Sounds better than 6 hours or so of casual WvW, right?
There are raid guilds out there that expect people to give them a 10g deposit for a trial run. People who are looking for a good raid guild can invite people under the presumption that they are trialing, then after a few days or so, decide they are not viable for their guild and kick them without returning their deposit. Considering how many people PuG raids, some may fall for this elaborate scheme.
Thats not technically a scheme, its players willing to pay to be members of that guild… its clearly an entrance fee just to be on a trial period. You fail the tests you wont get your money back. If people cant see that they are blind.
Then again going by the success of programs like kickstarter, I really cant expect more.
I love using my hope pistols on both thief and engie (nobody use it as mesmer, lol)… but no new class with pistols in the expansion would be a complete disapointment. With that knowledge, not so sure I would have made one today.
Make things easier for the underdogs? Bwaaaahahahahahaaaa!!!
Anet has made it very clear that the strongest server will rule. They deleted features such as border cap assistance when the enemy holds objectives near your spawn and they changed the scoring system to make certain that the server with the most unflipped T3 objectives win skirmishes.
Dont ruin the gameplay mode and show mercy to the weak, pffff.
Everyone I know always cry yolomouse too, feeling the group pressure…
Dunno if gw2effiency have that info (I dont use it). Otherwise I doubt its possible.
Under a damp rock deep inside Orr.
I dont get it. We can already swap 5 skills in combat. Or 20 skills for ele/engie. Whats 1 more supposed to do?
I don’t mean this is a nasty way, but Rayya, you and all your server-hopping pals are the reason WvW never gets balanced.
Anet have stated before that the system takes time to work. When people transfer servers en masse you mess up the algorithm. It’s Anet’s fault really, they shouldn’t allow transfers at any time, there should be specific time windows to do transferring.
Atleast in EU everyone stacking on fsp is destroying wvw. We could have stayed on fsp with TT and our friends but we moved out because it was boring to one push everything. We try to create a server to face and fight fsp. If we wanted ez mode we would have stayed on fsp m8.
And for several hours this morning “overstacked” FSP was outmanned on every map (including EB) vs a 50+ RS blob that tore through everything with ease.
You cant balance WvW. Its impossible. Move around “trying to create a server to fight FSP” all you want, you’re not gonna make it any better. Stacking doesnt change anything and you would without a doubt attack your current server in exactly the same way once that get “overstacked”, so the cycle of zero balance can begin again.
Turret engineer? Are you sure it wasnt 4 years ago since you played? O_o
Anyway, all old gear is still viable, most classes are ok-ish even though elites are definetly more powerful.
Well duh… roaming by definition require a strong PvP build, not nomad guard or soldier thief or whatever. Someone used to PvP with a well known PvP build will be superior to someone that can barely move without a commander telling him where to go and who to bomb.
This is like saying that the strongest PvEers are raid veterans.
people consider the lowest mobility class in the game as op at roaming. lul.
Why do you need mobility when you can dump 30 stacks of bleed on 5 people? People need mobility to get away from you, not the other way around.
Or even better, have you tried meeting two of them in a roaming party? Its such a joy to see 10K bleed ticks covered by ~8 other conditions, but no worries I often bring that 25s cd skill which clears 2 condis, people tell me thats how to fight them uhum.
As an addition to that ascended is just barely relevant. You definetly want trinkets and they are readily available, the extra armor/weapon stats is negligable in every scenario except min-max hardcore raiding. I honestly dont even consider it a goal in terms of gearing.
The metaphors have to make sense or else it doesn’t work. The other MMOs have “gemstores” selling “slop” also, including subscription MMOs. You’re describing every MMO out there and pointing out gw2 like it’s different.
Here’s WoW’s ingame store. Pets, mounts, bundled items, skins, services, etc, that they charge on top of their: buy game, pay for expansion and monthly fees.
https://us.battle.net/shop/en/product/game/wowNote the prices. Not cheaper and in some cases, way more expensive “slop”
Well I have no idea what the WoW ingame store comparison to GW2 is supposed to mean.
Please explain?
The WoW ingame store was added nine years after WoW release.
I dont want to see a monthly sub, but players have to understand that theres no such thing as a free lunch.
The difference here is that for subscription MMOs every lunch lady say “$4 for slop and a coke”. You maybe say "but I dont have that today, can I have a sandwich? " and they say GTFO you are not even allowed to sit in a chair or be in the cafeteria without paying. You are sad and your friends that wanted to sit at the table with you miss you, so they are considering not eating tomorrow because this kittening sucks and the lunch lady is mean.
The Guild Wars lunch lady however say “here’s your complementary slop!” and dump it on your plate regardless. You say “uuuuh… can I have a coke?” and they say “sure thats $2!”. As you take your seat with your friends you think “hmm maybe I should have taken the premium slop for $5 instead” and at the end they say “see you tomorrow!” and you are all guranteed to come back, if only to smacktalk and enjoy the company. Or get premium slop.
I read that and I don’t have a clue as to what you’re talking about cuz I’m not paying extra for any content past my expansion purchases.
Complementary slop is ?
$2 coke is ?
$5 premium slop is ?
And the concept of metaphors fly over your head, wooooosh… Use your imagination.
Its not about you, its about the gemstore ecosystem of GW2 making people want to pay for something they desire. You may not buy more than expansions – plenty buy keys, makeover kits, character slots, inventory slots, bank tabs, hell even multiple HoT accounts. They arent forced and they arent thrown out if they dont.
For people that want a monthly sub, buy gems every month. Nothing is stopping you. A subscription wouldnt give us amy more content than what Anet has amazingly achieved (dont think anyone truly expected GW2 to be alive and well 5 years on, given the stiff competition over the years… from subscription MMOs that tanked hard).
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Basicly, you got to love the skin in order to justify a legendary, any of them. The stats are irrelevant. For the price of a single legendary, you can make like 30 ascended pieces. For most people thats pretty much gearing their entire account.
If you have 3000 gold doing nothing in the bank… well I suppose we all get bored sometimes and succumb to temptation.

It actually happens quite alot and its not race specific (gravity is an equal opportunity troller). The character starts to adjust to the plane angle of the polygon they are standing on, which result in quite funny things.
It would be curious to know if this is a purely unintented bug (its been in the game since release AFAIK) or if its actually an uncompleted feature that was never fully implemented due to… obvious… issues, so Anet just said kitten it we disable character leaning. Come on Gaile, poke one of the programmers we know they can post :p
You don’t change the name of a franchise just because the game has changed. Star Trek Deepspace 9 took place on a space station, not a starship. They weren’t trekking anywhere, but it was still called Star Trek.
What a silly thing to say, since DS9 fired up its engines and trekked to the wormhole in the first episodes, lol. Also they got a ship later and travelled all over the place in shuttles.
Anyway, its Guild Wars. Literally. We have plenty of beefs with other guilds in WvW. Thats not why its called Guild Wars of course. Doesnt really matter.
They have a test server. Its called WvW. Its where they test everything for months and months, such as PvE balance in a PvP enviroment. Currently at least 70% of the players are doing in depth testing on Deathly Chill and its going great!
We only have two rifle classes to compare with in the game currently.
If it’s like the engie rifle-thats-really-a-kittenty-shotgun no one will carry that laughable kitten.
If its like the warrior rifle we may as well just stop playing the game because its version of killshot gonna be 360 no-scope insta-kills from stealth on zero cooldown while dodging and jumping at the same time.
Note that I am assuming you are talking about rifle thieves and not actually rife thieves, the unpleasantly common kittens.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Of course they have no character. Everyone knows that Charrs are just a bunch of taped together Asurans wrapped in a full body suit made of Norn chest hair.
Chillomancer necro by far.
Necros completely dominate GREN at the moment with a 40%+ presence for having “enough”, anything lower is too few. The chill and bleed spam near zergs is insane and they are just as strong solo. If they know what they are doing and you miss a dodge, you go down 30% hp a second.
And they’ve been hyping more than 4+ cores since bulldozer. That sure went well! And how long has 8gb been a standard? Then there’s this dx12 hot air as well.
Well for being the master race, PCs sure take it’s sweet time adopting technology
Theres basicly not been any x86 PC CPU produced since 2005 or something… Yet we’re still seeing 32bit Windows and applications. Like… why?!? Even potato level CPUs today – actual potatoes with wires in them – are x64.
Some skills have been shifted toward less base healing but bigger bonus with healing power but its still a little meh since there are limited gear combos and you need like 1000+ to see any real effect (ie sacrifice a ton of other stats).
Worth investing is relative. 3-4 healbot eles in a 50 man zerg can make a massive difference to sustain under pressure. PvE its pointless (maybe in raids I dont know) and likewise in sPvP.
Well maybe they can make pet reskins and sell them in the gemshop.
Only if they also make it so that we can skin pets and sell them on the TP.
It’ll solve the leather issue and nothing of value is lost :/
Condi, condi and more condi is usually the way to go, with ranged obviously being easier than melee.
Seeing a thief burn to death while franticly teleporting all over the place is the best thing. Bonus points for downing them while they are stealthed. Dont just stomp them afterwards, stand there and slowly aa them to death. Jumping on the corpse or taking pauses to extend the suffering is optional.
I like to let them heal up to just a hair from full, then poke them gently. Or maybe walk away so they think I’m going to let them live, then shoot them once with a rifle. Anything to let them know they’re not welcome on my borderland…
The things you describe here really does do only the antispocial scum of this game’s playerbase… sorry to say that … especially the act of jumping around on the dead corpse or the downed enemy player, which just wants to get back into play, just shows what a kind of non social person these kinds of players are.
Sad thing is, they are oftenly then the first people which freak out, if other enemy players do exactly that on them too when they are downed on the dirt and try to whisper the people all kinds of insults…
A player which has honor and respect just kills off the downed enemy quick and without such childish drama around the act of defeating an other player in a competitive game mode. Especially when the situation is clearly to your favor and you know exactly that the enemy has 0 chance to come back from downed state at all, due to being outnumbered or being hit by surprise with a powerful burst.
That kind of antisocial attitude that people are showing in competitive game modes like described here in the quotes is it, which makes me always think that PvP and WvW would be way better and more joyful to play, if Anet woudl just remove this Downed State nonsense from there and turn it into Instant Defeat the moment you lost all your Health.
That would quicken the battles also by alot and make them more interesting.
Sadly there is still then no solution for bad morality of players and acting like small kids that need to grow up, but that change would be at least a good start to make PvP/WvW a little bit better in its social aspects. Its sometimes hard to be a good loser, but it is also alot easier to be a bad winner.
Something that some people should try to remember on more oftenly, when they play PvP/WvW.
Thats all fine and dandy but its invalidated by the fact you are fighting a daredevil.
Forget legendaries, aim for a full set of ascended. It needs gold and a few time-gated materials but it is not too bad from a grind viewpoint, especially if you are patient.
And then when you are done, realize you dont even like the class and begin the process again on another character.
Yeah there is no doubt its a sword. The necros icon and art clearly show a torch, in comparison.
particularly ones that are outspoken and can barely spell.
Come now, learning how to communicate with other human beings is an important step in life. We should be honored that children use GW2 to learn. Yes, even the young 30 year olds.
A bigger map can work if they design enough useful points of interest in it, as well as create a “front line” for fights.
I’ve seen a “bigger” map in action with the rvr map from ESO, that map is HUGE compared to even DBL, like at least 5x as big. But they have mounts and speed buffs to help get around, as well as having a waypoint system to port to and from every tower or keep they have, as long as they are connected by your side. You can temporarily shut down a tower or keep from having a waypoint for your enemies if you capture the 3 surrounding objectives attached to it, these are objectives that make havoc sized teams important to have.
There are some bad things in having a huge map, if they don’t fit in ways to travel around in a decent amount of time, like that waypoint system it’s kitten boring moving from one place to another. You would also need to design structures with more hitpoints, which in ESO basically every structure has tier 3 upgrades, but you have to repair walls after every fight, there’s no auto repairs from upgrades. That is to give time for defenders to respond.
“Some bad things”… ESO was basicly 10 minutes of riding across barren landscape and lagging all over the place (bonus points for getting out of friendly keep without rubberbanding back for 5 minutes), then 1 minute of fighting while having the same lag and then back to running because you probably died to an unkillable guy with far better gear than you (or a vampire). Every 2h session of ESO I got like 10-15 mins of fighting, lol. The rest was just running. So boring. In GW2 it is the complete opposite, thats why I returned after 3 months of trying to tolerate constant 250ms+ lag on the oh-but-its-an-EU-server-we-pinkie-swear-teehee EU side of things.
If GW2 has anything to learn from ESO its that there really is such a thing as too big.
Condi, condi and more condi is usually the way to go, with ranged obviously being easier than melee.
