DBL is a punishment for the server that get it. It is a very inactive map that most players avoid going too. I will keep on posting this link until people stop telling DBL is fine, it isn’t.
http://i.imgur.com/fWWmFKR.jpgIt does ofc not mean that noone ever like DBL ofc there are players who do. But most of the players do not like it and do not move to the map when being attacked which again is a huge disadvantage to the server who is red.
Where are those numbers from? Also, what do they mean?
Looks like kill ratios and they are generally correct last time I checked – about 80% of kills occur on the two alpine borders (and kills roughly equal overall activity).
Daylight saving shift time 1 hour every year now? I always thought it moved forward 1h then backward 1h again, making no difference. Man, Americans are weird. Get with the program and use human time already.
As a sidenote when someone “oh yeah we totally killed 40 people with our 15 man guild!” it was probably like 25-30 people in the enemy group and 5-10 randoms around the guild, lol.
I agree with everything you’ve said but I feel like gloating a bit and adding another example to the ones you’ve already provided.
A couple weeks ago 2 friends and I (3 of us, 1 Druid, 1 vanilla semi-tank Warrior, 1 glass Berserker) wiped a group of about 15 – 20 in EOTM. Following your example, they were caught off guard because a number of them were in the scorpian transformation attacking the red keep wall. We downed nearly half of them before they could react, got a few fully defeated, retreated to stealth and recovered, then finished the rest.
Of course yes, it was EOTM, but it was a group triple our size and our own group wasn’t on TS.
It’s easy to demolish a large group if you catch them with their pants down and don’t over extend.
Not only did you obviously catch them off guard but the overall quality of EoTM zergers is… a little low… in my opinion.
I have seen a 40 man group nearly wiped by a keep lord.
It always depend on the zerg more than the smaller group. Generally, its incredibly simple to break a zerg. A single bomb, 5 or so down, them backpeddaling, you’ve won. Or if you meet a zerg that completely falls apart if the commander goes down, no matter the numbers.
If we are assuming equal skills and similar group setups however, no its not really possible. It shouldnt be possible either. Best case scenario, you catch them so stacked and so utterly off guard that you bring them down to your numbers in one hit. Like an AFK blob standing on a bridge or something, lol.
Of course you will also have those that will say they did it because they facerolled into the backline if a zerg already engaged with another 50 man, but thats not really fair either.
The new “condi meta” is really only strong if one side fails to cleanse the initial burst – and 40 people will cleanse it alot easier than your 10-15 man. Hell you could have 10 healbot eles in that 40 man doing little to no damage and they would be invoulnerable, while still outnumbering the smaller group 2 to 1 of effective damage classes.
As a sidenote when someone “oh yeah we totally killed 40 people with our 15 man guild!” it was probably like 25-30 people in the enemy group and 5-10 randoms around the guild, lol.

You want WvW to die?
Cause thats how you get WvW to die.
Loot is a major driving factor even for those that fight. This would kill the game during off hours and never get ball going later, because there will be no players to fight – players that otherwise would have been capping objectives getting wxp and awaiting opposition.

I run beserker pretty exclusively during my wvw time, though I concern myself with guild groups and am built to zerg surf for bags. Generally in the off 1v1 while doing silly stuff like trying to get veteran daily, I am able to stalemate and flee or win, if it is too hot I can generally succeed in fleeing.
So sayeth the… thief?
Well duh…
Beserker as in warrior
Thats even worse.
It’s pretty much the same thing that need to be done to that stupid kittening performance hog of a stealth fog that cripples gameplay around garri. Sure you could fix it by simply revamping the effect into just simple AoE stealth bubbles around those floaty thingies. But no, I say just remove it and get it over with.
The fog around earth keep doesn’t stealth anyone anymore. Now, it only prevents an enemy from using stealth. The turrets things now apply boons to allies, and movement conditions (I think, I’m not sure…) on enemies.
So they somehow listened to you ! :-)
Too bad that wasnt the main problem, its the fog effect itself that lowers performance by a fair bit.
Said earlier I am going to leave the game, not just WvW that is dying – take a look at the Shatterer event – not seen a Smash the Dragon, this year yet, my Son and Foster Son both need it for the back piece – PvE is also dying.
Thats not really PvE dying due to old age though, Anet tuned Shatterer to the max and then decided it was too weak so they tuned it some more. Its a raid boss dps race with critical regeneration events that require 100+ players knowing exactly what to do.
This is indicative of a server-side prioritization and potentially performance issue.
Uhm… we already know what it is because the devs told us. In simple terms its the server skill queue that chokes on requests and is unable to respond to skill activations. The skill queue is separate from the movement, thats why you dont necessarily rubberband when skill lagging (or vice versa).
Well they sometimes do that, whisking away threads into oblivion. On the upside, I dont even think they cause an infraction.
Could of course have been the OP that deleted it too.

Yeah, probably. Yet their purpose, and the overall idea about them wasn’t so bad after all : give a tactical value to towers by forcing attackers to run the whole way around, and risk to be spotted.
The core issue with barricades is they weren’t an effective counter to the ktrain strategy, and I feel like devs should really put their efforts into this, should they design new map functionnalities.
They dont need to put any effort into it, there was tons of suggested ideas. For example making it possible to “portal” through them on a global cooldown. That would stop zergs (it would take minutes to bring a zerg through one by one) as opposed to solo/small groups.
But it was easier just to remove it.

We did that with the middle event too.

I have a human female, if I were to re-do my thief character it would probably be a Sylvari male.
If only sylvari males had human female armor models as standard everyone would be happy. And they would look absolutely fabulous.
Honestly they need to put standard models in WvW too. Especially since standard models would allow more characters to be rendered by reducing calls to the harddrive. (every time someone is rendered the game has to load their gear models and character models from the harddrive.)
Honestly its the same setting as it is for sPvP.
Also what you are saying is the reason computers and video cards have ram…
Whatever do you mean? They have pretty fair skirmish points to me so that there is little to no machup movements.
Point system working as intended.
I foud that running PPT train is not much rewarding at the moment. It will eventually get flipped back. Can you consider making it INSANELY HARD to get the towers/keeps/castles? This will naturally make the WvW more competitive place.
Create a waypoint at towers when fully upraded. Teleporting into the towers is allowed only to those who contributed in claiming/defending/upgrading the towers.
I’d also like to ask to implement a panel showing how individual players contributed in earning WvW points, like that of sPvP, at the end of every skirmish. The players would like to know who’s on the top list roaming, scouting, killing, and commanding. We can commend those with the highest impact by tipping them badges of honor.
Why don’t you try fighting and defending what you flipped rather than Ktraining? Gasp! Fight other players? God forbid.
Your second idea just sound like a huge can of worms that is ripe for bullying and flaming. If you can’t already tell who’s contributing and who isn’t, then you aren’t a very experienced player. WvW is about a large group pvp environment. We have gotten better reward tracks in the past to help compensate for the massive cost of WvW. This isn’t a game mode to just grind rewards from. It’s about fights, fun, and winning. If you want to just Ktrain and grind stuff, go to EotM or a less populated server where you won’t run into people.
Fight other players?! Being on a “fight server” with guilds that dont defend, only want to fight in open field and slap the PPT kitten label on anyone that disagree with them… I will still see 30+ of them AFK on border spawns while we dont even have enough people out to fight off 2 enemies trying to cap our border camp.
Its just the way WvW is. People are weird.
Players didn’t like towers having barricade walls though, so they got removed.
The barricades sucked. They punished anything without maxed out power damage and stopped roamers/small groups dead while zergs brought them down in seconds going “lolololol1111111111111”.
It was one of the worst features GW2 has ever had.
check the new game CROWFALL it’s everything anet promised wvw would be.
Thats what people has said for 4 years about the other games too. Never mind crowfall, CU will kill it first!
Trust me its not fun sieging forever.been playing in 2012 – 2013 where gates and walls had way more hp and siege did less dmg.Certain sieges lasted forever, and it just got incredibly boring at a point, especially if the opposing server sits inside on a ton of siege not coming out for the complete duration of the siege on the object.
Anet hadnt boosted the arrowcart damage by ~100% back then though.
He has a valid point about being forced to play WvW
No he doesnt. He is making a legendary. You have to complete the game for that. That is the point. WvW is part of the game.
If he makes a valid point, then another valid point would be that I should be able finish Fallout 4 by skipping levels 10 through 30 and never visiting Diamond City. Agreed?
Isnt relinks like this week or next?
Uhm gift of battle is like what, 2% of all the grinds? Wvw players have to get out of their way for much longer then a pve player to get theirs.
At 2% that would probably value it around 50g compared to the full cost of a legendary. But its actually just the end of a normal WvW reward track which generally give an armor or weapon piece with a value of maybe 5 gold tops.
So its more like 0.2%.
Magnet bugs out half the time, elixir gun isn’t really for direct damage, and Mortar is really only good in big groups. And then not really.
Which pretty much describe the entire engineer.
The core issue with the engineer today is that you are basicly getting pidgeonholed to choose certain skills and traits. Purity of purpose!
As a sidenote, I still consider the power scrapper to be inferior to condi scrapper in WvW (and I would say even inferior to condi engineer). It’s not bad, but it’s just soooo easily kited. I have only seen super tanks perform decently and that’s just by surviving and being there as support, another meatbag to take the pressure off. Problem is there are far better classes that do far more damage while performing similar duty (warrior to take the most notable example).
sPvP animations is different from WvW somehow?
Because otherwise that is such an odd thing to say since human female is meta when it comes to hiding animations. 99% of all gankers use it.
I mean it cant only be for the boobies, rights?
Well they seem perfectly fine with tossing away maps for sPvP…
To reiterate what I have said so, so many times before:
- Graphically it’s in the HoT generation, which is way above GW2 1st generation maps. That’s fine. Visually it’s fine.
- The design of the map is kittenpoor for WvW. It’s completely broken. It doesnt follow the basic rules that keeps and towers defend each other. The northern towers are in the completely wrong place, the southern towers are in equally wrong place and when it comes to objectives on the whole the entire map literally screams “go around!”, it’s far too wide with zero chance to scout chokes. It doesnt work.
- Anet has improved it alot since first version and I applaud them for doing that much but… it’s not enough. The fundamental design cant be fixed. Period. It’s an unfixable map.
Ascended gears are different from discounted trinkets which is pretty common.
Which matters how?
They could easily do it so that for X amount of hero badges or XX amount of honor badges or XXX amount of skillpoints, you can either buy a chest or – if cheaper – an ascended insigna. And they could easily add other ascended materials for purchase in the same way so you can balance and reduce costs. Just like how the newer sPvP ascended aquisition works. It doesnt have to be easy. The costs could be like 1000 hero badges. It would however be an option, yes.
But Anet havent done this because clearly they dont want to or they dont think ascended stuff should be in WvW.
Uh… we already have this. In fact we already have two WvW currencies (three if you count ability points). Anet has just chosen not to let you buy any ascended other than trinkets for it, on one of the currencies.
The issue with Ryzen is that fact it’s really two quad core complexes (CCX), each with 8MB of L3 cache, on a single die (R5 disables 1 or 2 cores on each complex to get a 1600 hex or 1500 quad series) with a relatively “slow” interconnect (tied to the system memory speed) between them, which adds a significant bit of time if a thread running on one quad needs to talk to a thread running on the other quad or access memory from the other CCX’s L3 cache.
That how game patches a week or two out from the R7 launch was able to significantly improve Ryzen framerate while not impacting Intel which isn’t constructed the same way. For Ryzen they just had to group threads that commonly communicate with each other to be assigned to the same CCX. So it’s very much how the game engine is designed as to if it performs similar to or worse than Intel.
And I disagree, the Ryzen core doesn’t “suck”. It’s a pretty sweet advance over the cores in the FX series. It’s just the idiosyncrasies of the overall design of the R5 and R7 series that can exhibit can cause performance between different apps to vary widely between being close to Intel or not.
Overall it’s a correct argument, but when just switching graphics cards can lower the performance difference between Intel and AMD CPUs from 30% to 0% despite the fact it should be the exact same difference given all things equal… The core clusters are just part of the equation.
It’s complicated.
Something else to note though is that PS4/XBone/Scorpio, they all share the same core cluster config (it’s 8 core AMDs, duh). Which theoretically mean that if a game is optimised for multiplatform, it should do fine on AMD. If the consoles had been using Nvidia chips – Switch doesnt count, it’s a kittenty handheld – it would have been quite a different future prospect I think…
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
WvW is the only mode where class unbalance increase exponentially.
SPvP by design is kept under controll by amulets (ie weaker and fixed stat combos), group compositions and the capnhold points you have build your character on.
In WvW all rules are thrown out and if one chillomancer necro is god kitten near impossible to cleanse fast enough even when building for max cleansing due to kittenting out bleeds like bloody diarrea, then good luck fighting 10 of them.
Hacks on top of that is irrelevant and no excuse.
And I disagree with Dawdler, GW2 is one of a handful of games where CPU is as or more important than the GPU due to it’s game engine design and use of Dx9. It is diminishing returns as overall CPU performance increases but CPU core performance does matter.
But does it really on todays CPUs? Has anyone done apples to apples benchmarks? Of course they tested it at release and noted the avg framerate of an i5 2500k@3ghz and i5 2500k@4ghz. That should be quite a difference if the game was CPU bound. It wasnt. It was exactly the same fps.
But of course as I said if you are running on a potato…
Also note that the OP said he would use an RX470, which is good – Nvidia drivers on Ryzen seems to be completely broken (for some “mysterious” reason). To dig up a random test on Anandtech, DX9 Rocket League. At 1080p ultra and with 7500/GTX1060 vs 1600X/GTX1060 you get 156 vs 109 fps. That is a massive difference. Ryzen single core sucks you say, the i5 is much stronger? Well they tested 7500/Fury vs 1600X/Fury too. They got 178 vs 176 fps. Odd huh?
Edit: with an RX480 it was 182 vs 181 fps (1600X being the higher number, not that it matter lol). Didnt see they tested 3 cards.

You missed the opportunity to call her “Ichoka Thrawno”.
Or maybe there should be an option to right click them and choose “Ask out” instead.
Sometimes there is even no queue to Desert BL on reset night.
… DBL havent been queued at reset since it HoT release. And the only reason it was queued then was that we had no choice.
Sometimes I see large 20+ groups there, but it’s mostly for a singular purpose – take hills, take bay, take garrison or all of them quickly when home server isnt looking. If they loose once they jump border. Fights during the week on desert is usually some smaller groups running around with 2 out of 3 servers outmanned. Sometimes I have raided there in primetime with my guild and it had the largest group around – 3 people.
There is more people AFK queueing EB on ABL than there are people playing on DBL.
I believe Intel still outperforms Ryzen. I personally have a 6950X and 16gb DDR4 3000 and a 1080 Ti. It just plays so smooth and nice. I recall reading something recently that said Intel still performing better than Ryzen.
Well yeah, if you got $1600 plowed into the CPU, you better hope it outperforms something for a third that…. which it does, by maybe 20%. And the 7700K at $350 or so is also faster than the 6950x in anything but pure multithreaded apps.
But anyway enough of that. Ryzen is without a doubt much faster at multithreaded application, there is simply no contest there. But games – especially old ones like GW2 – are usually not so much multithreaded. If you look at benchmarks though, the 1600x is good enough to match the 7600K. Sometimes slower, sometimes faster but overall fairly close.
The i5 will only really pull ahead if you plan on doing heavy overclocking (ie reach ~5ghz) but even so that will only be good in games that uses <= 4 threads. If we are looking at modern games capable of utilizing more cores and thread, that overclock does nothing for the i5.
Overall, the 1600X is a much, much better buy at this time. i5 is obsolete technology and Intel has only been milking it by pumping up the prices on the i7. Ryzen has pretty much ended the i5 series. I dont expect there to be any more 4c/4t CPUs except in the sub-budget I-want-a-passivly-cooled-TV-computer range.
Note 2 things:
- Unless you are running on a potato, the CPU doesnt make that much of a difference in a game like GW2. They will pretty much all flatline in the same general area.
- The DDR4 is stingy on the Ryzen platform. I do not recommend Corsair. You want 2 sticks of Samsung B-die ram capable of reaching 3600mhz or around there (even if you mobo cant do that stable now, it might in the future), such as the G.SKill Trident series. But granted, that’s more expensive than the Corsair. They’re not bad per say but RAM matters alot. RAM frequency controls the CPU cluster core bridge on the Ryzen which pretty much translate to speed.

Quick look at metabattle yield druid dps/support with lb or warrior condi/support for fractals and raids. Dh bow isnt really a thing there.
Like others have mentioned in this thread, we don’t think this would be a healthy feature for WvW. Many players will not participate in WvW if they don’t see a commander tag, and we try to avoid adding features that can be used to exclude players.
Like others have mentioned in this thread, you’ve missed the point. The unhealthiest feature of WvW is the population imbalance. Many players will not participate in WvW if they are being heavily outnumbered and guild groups running privately is a player created solution that you are refusing to support. This request is a product of guilds attempting to balance the game, not exclude players.
Guilds attempting to “balance” the game? Hahahahaha… that’s quite a high piedestal you put them on. Oh are you talking about the same guilds that bandwagon from server to server?
Guilds can run in closed groups all they want – even a tagless squad if they dont want to show their banner – but they dont get all the pros of using that squad system. Because Anet wants people to tag as a distinct feature of the game, it’s as simple as that.
To me arguing against it the same as saying well I like dodging but I dont like how it clearly announce my character dodging to other players. Please remove the animation on my character.
No it really should be Technodancer.
All gyros are replaced with discoballs that shoot lasers and drop sweet beats.
The elite one make everyone within 1200 range do Thriller, then they fall over dead.
Some guilds like to run only with their own people and dont want pugs.
So is pugs following guild an American thing or something? Most of the time pugs seem to respect the yellow tag (“official” closed raid tag on my server). Theres no need for a private tag. Those that blatanty dont respect guilds will run after the closest bundle of players anyway – ie your guild raid that “only run with its own”. If it aint tagged it aint a raid so cho cho leeching!!!
I wish Anet would just make jumping drain endurance already, then we wouldnt even be having this discussion.
What do you want instead? Overexited Charr female warrior voices?
Gaining adrenaline!”
“Almost ready!”
“On My Mark!”
“Here I come!”
“Shake It Off!”
“For Great Justice!”
When you put them in order… it almost makes sense.
No, it’s a known bug that happens at times for 120 seconds. The only current fix is to change maps.
Delete the data .dat file, launch game and redownload, problem solved. If it doesnt solve it you are kitten out of luck until Anet fixes the game.
Life needs some salt too
Too much salt and you die.
Ah kitten I dont have enough hands to facepalm this topic again.
Gift of battle is not even 0.1% of the work on a legendary. Buff up and run in EB zergs and you have it in a couple of hours.
I am a 90% WvW player and I got 3 legendaries – including Hope that kittening required me to do the entire kittening PvE of GW2. Do you think I enjoyed spending months farming and getting masteries? kitten no. It was tedious as kitten. Gift of battle is nothing. Literally nothing.
Complaining about it is as logical as complaining that you’re getting 2g for free every day.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
So basicly every matchup would be f2p alt accounts going “lololol commander is at hills now lololol” 24/7 in cross server chat just to troll.
Sure. Glorious.
Harpy? Its up 100% of the time on desert, veteran creature is dead simple nowadays.
Why is that bad? Chill out with some airsoft, its great.
Rubber knife and pistol if you want that thief feel, although you have to be pretty acrobatic to do smokefield combo (on second thought, dont try that as you will probably end up in the ER).
Does it matter if it was considerated great?
It does if the OP is asking whether engie is still considered great or not.
Can I just point out that apart from the very first reply most people haven’t been “shooting down” the OPs ideas and no one has said they don’t want the game to change at all.
Sometimes you can say something in 10 words or 1000 words and still have the same meaning. In this thread I choose to do the former, because nothing will change the fact that what the OP suggested is already in the game in one form or another. Yes, even the first point if you want to ignore autoattack – the “weaker” version of a skill you pop without cd basicly describes every skill in the game that got a passive and active component.
They did say if they went with 1 up 1 down they could try out monthly link rotations. That would make it a lot more expensive to bandwagon every new link, might help balance out the populations.
Which would help how exactly, other than antagonize players and make the transfer whales give more momey to Anet? Plus, you would even need weekly links to adjust when servers move between tiers since the links balance only the 3 servers in a tier.
Alternativly, the option is to allow tier movement only on a monthly basis (when relinks happen).
Up/down also break down if tiers dont win and loose in the same way. What happens in a scenario where a server dominate T3, but T2 is fairly equal fight where wins are traded every week between the 3? Who in T2 will drop over the course of 3 weeks when all of them got a win, a loss and 2nd place?
