The problem is that this is not a ‘reward system’ its a contribution system. It does not exist to reward those of us who play enough to be able to hit cap 4 times in a week, it exists only to penalize the players who cant hit it once.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Loot is always loot, no matter how much it is. This is like arguing that PvE world bosses doesnt exist to reward those killing them multiple spawns, they only exist to penalize PvE players that cant kill them every spawn. That a minor part of the loot is capped tickets is meaningless.

I see nothing wrong with the way it currently works.

If I’m in a BL with outmanned I ping the Outmanned buff into /t and then ping a waypoint in a different BL.

Works everytime and ppl who abuse the system tend to send you hate whispers making life all that more enjoyable for the next 5 minutes LOL

Yes… “people who abuse the system”… the irony hurt my brain.

I still think that the simplest way is adding a 2.5m cd (half a tick) after map hopping on getting the buff. Then all we need to is make it so that if you are determined for 1m, all pip gain stop until the buff goes away. Stop outnumbered and safe zone afking in one swoop.

This would, in my opinion, bring more people together to earn more pips. It would give them something to work towards depending on how strong of a desire they have for getting the legendary back piece. If a server wants to get it sooner, they would have to work together and try to push for keeps and towers. This might even bring more commanders out and possibly more WvW guilds.

Putting more pip emphasis on the matchup/skirmish assumes a fair matchup/skirmish 24/7.

Thats just not reality.

Such a change would make it incredibly unfair to play against dominating offtime servers that has T3 objectives… even if they put up little resistance in the current skirmish. It makes comebacks unrewarding since what you do skirmish X will pip reward those doing skirmish X+1 or skirmish X+2 rather than you.

I most definetly oppose this and to reiterate my opinion just because I still have some hope Anet can and have the will to tweak this (though its WvW, so maybe in 3 years):
- Outmanned decreased to 2
- Commitment increased to 2
- All ranks increased with +2 although I would also settle for +1 here
- Done

Unlinked servers were a disaster of their own with bottom tiers nearly void of players during huge swaths of a day. Linking is the lessor of the two evils.

Wait are you describing T1? Because that also describe single server T1 to a tee. Since FSP got unlinked, we can still be outmanned in primetime and only populate one border.

Anyway, I still dont like links either because they make Anet balance WvW like a lava lamp. Oh so you dropped to T2, we cant have that! Here have a link and be able to beat all other servers. Oh your T1 now? Nonono that wont do, you are too strong so lets remove the link.

And round and round we go.

The problem is that with condition engineer you’re left to only run one gyro at most, and that’s the Sneak Gyro. As if you’d be running Alchemy with very few elixirs on your bar, you’re just not going to make the most use of the traitline taking it when you need both flamethrower and tool kit to deal meaningful damage.

Not really sure why that is considered a problem. I run with 3 gyros most of the time and need neither the toolkit or flamethrower to deal meaningfull damage (although I do generally pack the toolkit, gotto pull those peeps off walls).

How Queues and spots on the map should work

No need to even consider queue or holding your spot.

Anet could just add an NPC that automatically switches to a character you choose (you walk up to him, talk and choose one of your available characters, see loading screen and bam back at spawn waypoint with your other character).

They havent fixed this in 5 years though, so dont hold your breath.

Ever occured to you then… that maybe you are simply a better player than most? Its true that the scrapper traitline does nothing for condi, but neither does anything you would replace it with. Pretty much all comes from firearms and a condi scrapper should obviously be running firearms/alchemy/scrapper. You can choose to run inventions instead of alchemy but honestly, I think alchemy/travelers is a better compromise, especially against other condis.

The thing is, the gyros offer so much utility. Stomp gyro combined with final salvo traiting is the most powerfull small scale skill in the game. Sneak+bulwark combo is equally great because it allows ressing under pressure. I have won more fights than I can count when outmanned, solely because of this.

You can just reinstall windows on a new SSD then. I only keep programs and Windows, so I don’t really lose anything but time.

It makes no sense to buy an SSD and not use it. Everything dies. If anything, SSDs are probably actually sturdier than their constantly spinning HDD counterparts which are known to fail. Hell, I remember buying a HDD at Frys and they flat out told me 1/4 of their drives are bad. That was back then though.

I may not be the average user, but NO, I cannot just slap a copy of windows on a drive. I have a ridiculous amount of stuff to install and configure. I am an application developer and I work from home as well. Losing my main drive would set me back probably a week or two, and even then I may not get everything installed and configured that I have now.

Just do a ghost backup of your drive then…

But hey you can do whatever you want. The topic was the ideal machine for GW2 (well, WvW) and in this particular area the answer is clear – SSD.

Engineer is probably the class that can make the most of cele after ele but IMO its fairly pointless today. As other mentions, you need to go condi if you want to compete with the condi meta and you need to go marauder or similar if you want to have the oomph to beat the power meta. HoT turned up the extremes in both areas to the max.

Plus, celestial gear is timegated and can be like 90% emulated by comboing gear.

What’s better i7 or ryzen?

i7 for single core performance (for gaming)
ryzen for multicore applications (value wise)

By pure coincidence, I saw that Sweclockers reviewed the 7900X and included a test using a single core at 2.8ghz. In Battlefield 1 720p , 154 fps avg for 7700K vs 148 fps avg for 1700X. In Witcher 3 720p, 131 fps avg for 7700K vs 118 fps avg for 1700X.

Pretty much describe the IPC. The difference will usually drop lower in “normal” scenarios at regular clocks and all cores. Witcher 3 1080p Ultra was 117 fps vs 111 fps.

So that’s the big question, is that gaming advantage really worth it?

And of course the i9 at $1000 matches the 7700K in gaming so not worth it lol. Great multithread performance though. Quite the leap over 6950X.

For what, the amazing multithread performance that GW2 use to the max?

And even if you simply wanted cores… why? A 16c threadripper will be around half the cost of eqvivalent i9. They may not be as fast no, but we’re talking 80% performance at 50% price. And that’s before even thinking about mobo.

It actually become more complicated when comparing ye average quad core i7 (ie 7700K) because it’s roughly the cost of a Ryzen (1700X, IMO the 1800X is overpriced for the little extra performance it gives) and again, yes it might have 80% performance on average in single/low threaded gaming but it also have a potential for 80% higher performance in multi/high threaded work loads.

Regardless, it really depend on your current CPU. Neither the 7700K or 1700X is miracles compares to a decent quality earlier Intel i5 and especially i7. I am personally on an i5 3570K and it’s sort of borderline whether it’s truly worth it now or if I should another year. If I really wanted to upgrade – which then again I do, lol – I would pick the 1700X. Because I’m not that hassled by the minor performance niggles in gaming, I look at the CPU on the whole and I consider it a simply better choice for the future. If you are already on say an i7 4XXX higher, forget about it IMO. Get a new cooler and have some fun overclocking instead (worst case scenario, you’ll be forced to get a new CPU when you break the old lol). Wait until the next generation.

As a sidenote, keep in mind that Ryzen has improved a fair bit since release and the performance outliers (such as the horrendous display in Tomb Raider) has been fixed. Hell I barely even think that 80% performance thing is relevant anymore, if you removed things like Tomb Raider Ryzen on average matched or outperformed the 7700K.

But still.

Sidenote to Archonwing: Yes that’s true… but for really write heavy things like Nvidia Shadowplay I use a ramdisk (4gb out of the 16gb I have for 6m or something record time) instead, as an example to offload the primary SSD, while the movies are saved on the secondary SSD when hitting record. Modern SSDs are considerably improved over the first generation. Back then I also opted for another choice – a HDD/SSD hybrid – due to doubts. Not anymore though.

It is still interesting to see the PiP threads. WvW has really never been about rewards when talking with the old timers. YES the rewards are here that other areas of the game enjoyed WvW’rs wanted some rewards to be inline with other ascended rewards.

Except this thread started off from the perspective of someone who doesn’t have to struggle so much to max out. If you look at the time required to max out each week, you’ll see that for someone that normally plays 2-3 hours a day, there is no huge difference between them earning 6 pips or 17 pips per tick, they will still hit the cap each week. However, the time requirement increases exponentially below 6 pips, and that is what many have pointed out, that the pip rate should be more linear. Increasing base pips for server placement, for example, even by 1 pip would make a huge difference for those at the bottom.

Here’s a handy chart of hours per week vs. pips per tick based on the values from Limodriver’s table:

This is what I’m pointing out, in theory i should have already doubled my cap this week. But since the cap is fixed I’m still only gaining as many tickets as a person who barely makes it.

Take my current 3,306 pips:

Lets say i never commanded -135
That’s 3,171 PiP’s

Lets say i was never outnumbered -150
Thats 3,021 PiP’s

Lets say i was only bronze rank -515
That’s 2,506 PiP’s

Lets even say that my server never got higher than 2nd place in a tick – 497
That’s 2,009

This cap requirement of 1,450 is not hard to reach for people who play the game mode. and it doesn’t matter if it takes you a week to get there, the cap stays the same even if you put 3X as many hours towards it.

Dude… seriously… How many hours have you spent in WvW over the course of just 3 days? 20? 30? 40? More? At an average gain of 8 pips per tick (probably where most people land), it’s somewhere around 35 I’m guessing. That’s not normal. In fact, that’s insane even by hardcore standards.

Either that or I grossly underestimated the dedication of people “who play the game mode”. Here I thought playing 6h on a free saturday was stretching it to “do I have a problem?” levels.

One thing not mentioned here is installing GW2 on an SSD drive. (I still don’t trust them for my boot drive, but all my games are installed on one.)

I’ve used my Samsung 830 Pro for like 5 years now (boot + main gaming drive) and another Plextor SSD as secondary data drive. Techpowerup endurance tested the Samsung 850 Pro which Samsung guarantee 150 TB data written on… It finally died some week ago at 9100 TB, lol.

Every drive gonna die sooner or later but I honestly dont see an issue if your main drive is a decent quality one.

They need to place less emphasis on pips based on wvw rank, and award more pips by doing things. Like capping structures, being outnumbered and killing enemy players. We need a lot more pips coming in so that it doesn’t take 30-40 hrs of wvw play per week to hit ticket cap. It should be on par with spvps pip/league tickets in terms of hours required per week.

For the umptienth time, you cant do this without encouraging karma training and exploits. Just like PPT, pip tick is necessary for a balanced playing field.

That said, I still think the rank pips should be boosted by +2 across all ranks while outnumbered is reduced to +2. Wouldnt hurt if the commitment pip was +2 as well. System is fine, numbers need some tweaks.

Sure, if you wanna severely cripple your small scale capabilities.

Outside of pure max condi dmg engie, scrapper traitline and skills is the only viable thing for WvW. Yes of course you can use rifle if you want, but as a weapon it’s mediocre. I would only recommend it if you are good with your kit swapping cause the only way you’re gonna win fights is sustain and clever tactics… and for that I dont think your gear is tanky enough.

Well that make no sense since a single core on a 4.2ghz i7 7700K or 3.6ghz Ryzen 1800X is probably a fair bit stronger than a 2.5ghz Core 2 Duo.

But is it effective and fun?

I honestly dont think so. I have played it in periods over the years (including regular burn guard) and its always the same. You can stack an insane amount of burns and can go nuts tagging things but at the end of the day you are relying on a single condi type. Meaning, people in general will have no problems cleansing it if they have a lick of sense. With the current balance a reaper is 10x as effective in comparison due to the ability to completely overload foes – and it can bring better heals for a small group, lol.

IMO the marauder DH is much less dull to play.

I believe the proper answer is literally anything. Armor < 80 exotic is completely irrelevant. Just equip whatever green gear is on the TP that has better stats for some silvers, you should upgrade every 10th level (if you want to bother, sometimes you can wait until something drops or you get some level gear).

if possible you want a 4+ GHZ cpu chip everything else does not matter.

i am also told to avoid AMD chip <- i never own one so i cant say if this true or not but i had guildie complain about horrible FPS with there amd chips.

Ryzen has similar IPC as Intel. Either way, the CPU difference become rather negligable because they will all drop to 20-25 as the engine chokes (ie with 50 peeps around using particle effects).

If you are looking at flexible and future gaming, Intel is actually a mediocre buy and the i3/i5 has been made completely obsolete by Ryzen. The i7 is still sort of kind of worth it, just barely.

In terms of the OP though, a new CPU will do nothing. A 1080Ti for a noticable fps increase on average, maybe… but again, when the engine chokes it will still probably drop <25 fps on a quad SLI rig.

If the mount hitbox is identical to a player hitbox and moves 33% faster than a player does at base speed, it can jump like a player and otherwise move like a player, what is the difference from a mounted player and a player?

With this logic I would argue that its impossible to play on HoT and LS maps with Charrs. They are so much bigger than Asura and probably 5x longer when in AWD mode. How can they even move over the terrain?!?!

Instead of releasing outfits, give us full armour set skins instead, like the way things were at launch with the Phalanx and Krytan armour sets etc. This might not seem like an issue, but the entire end game of GW2 is centred around cool looking skins. Being able to mix and match different armour set pieces is half the fun, and lets people get creative with their own unique looks. If the reason is clipping, it’s honestly not that big an issue. I’d rather have my own unique look that has slight clipping issues, than being forced to have the same boring look as everyone else.

No matter how good a released outfit, I always find at least ONE part I don’t like that prevents me from purchasing it. This wouldn’t be a problem if I wasn’t forced to go all or nothing. The wardrobe system was a brilliant implementation, however it’s potential is wasted through the mass production of sub-perfect outfits.

My thief has been wearing the same T3 Human coat for years. Make sets instead of outfits, please!

Or give me a REALLY good reason as to why that’s impossible.

Armor sets are by far the most expensive reward we can make. A full set includes heavy, medium, light, times five races, times two sexes, so it’s like developing 30 sets. It takes nine months to develop. (That’s for a normal armor set — legendary is much longer.) It’s not something we can do for Living World episodes. Individual pieces are good rewards for Living World episodes; full sets are more something for expansion packs.

Whoever stated that should have left out the races and sexes since those are the same for outfits. What really makes the difference is Light / Medium / Heavy and then each individual piece has to be tailored to be used with other armor besides that set.

I don’t like it either. I would at least like them to change the ratio to less outfits and more armor. But no more trenchcoats :P

Seasons no doubt have more resources allocated. Because that’s really what it’s about. Anet is probably correct that it takes a long time to make armor, but if that was true across the board… well I dont think GW2 was in development for 30 years to make the 5000+ armor pieces in it.

Tbh I’d rather have them focus more on balance fixes (WvW still being completely ignored) and basic playable content over outfits or armor/weapon components.

Outnumbered is so ridiculously delicious. When I got my first outnumbered tick with even just bronze WvW rank (+1), I wondered why it didn’t always feel that good.

My Recommendation is to reduce outnumbered to doubling your current war score placement pips. As for the two pips removed from outnumbered, I would add additional Commitment levels for bronze and silver, totaling +3 possible.

Wouldnt that give more points to the dominating server (when outmanned vs lesser servers) and less point to the weaker servers (when outmanned vs the dominating server)?

Sounds sort of opposite to how it should be…

That’s not logic. The player character is the one that need to pick up loot and that’s why it needs a presence in the world (ie not be dead), but after pickup it always goes into the mystery dimension. You dont think your character carry 5 tonnes of armor and weaponry along with enough food to supply a cruise liner for a month, do you?

No, that mystery dimension is handled by a secretary that’s very much still alive. Ergo that functionality still works.

I don’t think just re-sknning the terrain would do it. You need something different enough that there are new tactics to employ. Part of the WvW burnout in the past was that sameness, oh they are on the cata wall, use the ACs to the north. Watergate, cannons and AC from topside.

Then do more than reskin it. A duplicate of EB doesnt need to be identical. You can do tons of actually quite big changes and still keep it the “same”.

To make some simple examples:
- North keep moved a little further west (the two towers east of it are also brought somewhat more west)
- Dredge cave is now dense swampland with a camp (Rouges has been moved while the NW camp has been moved further north)
- SM now has a bridge extension southwards that link it to a new tower which when held, grant a defensive boon to SM (a massive power laser beam is seen from tower to SM)
- Durios is now a more fortified and larger tower positioned on top of the cliffside east of SM

Now skin it as a HoT jungle with SM being Tarir and lots of jungly trees and native frogs everywhere, make subtle terrain changes to fit the new theme and there ya go. A “new” map.

As the above has mention, this has a fatal flaw: players. Because players are greedy kittens, this would be exploited up the wazoo from day 1. We already have a greyzone in the karma gains from flipping keeps, if you add precious pips into the mix players would simply invite the enemies to come cap the keep so that they can recap it. Everybody wins.

If you ask yourself the question “am I doing this for my loot or am I doing this for my server” and you overwhelmingly reply the first part, WvW has gone astray.

I did it within 5 minutes of the team chat update and placed it in its own tab that I dont check unless bored (or when I want to make fun of people putting diffuse scout reports and inc notes in team).

Diffuse scout reports? You do know you can see what map people are on when they use teamchat? So if someone writes “blob at bay” you can see what bay he means.

Except they dont do that, they just say “inc” or “south gate” or post a link to the objective and then say nothing more. And this is still about 10% of the content of course, the rest is random smacktalk.

Click the down arrow on your main chat tab. Uncheck “team”.

DBL disaster, is a show of what happens when a developer listens to “smart and strategic” people, hit and runners, roamers who are often a noisy minority in every PvP game forum.

To make their hit and run without punishment, they need everything in the game to have nerf, be it defenses or be attack. In the WvW case, plus zergs.

The result is that neither they themselves play the game mode.

That made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

After DBL I have zero faith that the current WvW design team (well, if there is one) has the capability to create a new map that follows the basic WvW objective design. We’ve had two new maps since release – EoTM and DBL. EoTM is pretty but it isnt WvW. The objective design make zero sense for a competetive border. DBL is once again pretty (well in a deserty sort of sense) but it doesnt follow the basice rules of WvW objective design, everything is independant and far between. That’s a 100% failure rate.

I’d rather see them doing something a little more… safe… in a 2 part update:

- Visual update of ABL to enhance the frosty theme (compare with the snowy sides of EoTM) and for the sake of simply updating the map to DBL level of visual quality. Though please, minus the cloaking fog that drops fps by 50%.
- A 90% direct copy of EB that is revisualized as a the HoT jungle theme (ie instead of grass, it’s a jungle with massive trees growing out of keep walls, swamplands etc similar to the oasis visuals of DBL. As a very simple example, the SM on this map would obviously be of Tarir design instead of Tyrian.

(alternativly a 90% copy of ABL, but personally I think WvW should move towards an overall EB design on all it’s map. EoTM sort of did it but fell far short, while DBL seems to have tried to do it but failed utterly and became a kitten twisted version of ABL)

Well WvW is now an ample source of unidentied dyes (you can pick it every reward chest)… if you got the ranks you can get like 5-10 dyes in an evening.

But the simple answer is as above: you farm gold in general and then you buy them. There is very little in GW2 thats worth farming for personal use, if anything.

I play a condition healer on my Engineer, Ranger, Guardian

Guardian seems to be the easiest though Ranger is a strong second now.

Since you didnt actually say anything about the engineer in the second line, I will just fill in the gap and mention that the engineer is the kittentiest healer in the game. An ele heal more watching paint dry than an engineer playing the piano on skills.

So considering 100% of thieves use teleport skills this makes me very exited to see it nerfed to the ground. Also the necro and guardian staff, same rough 100% usage.

Anet actually going by logic when buffing and nerfing classes would be a new and exciting concept!

Want to bet warrior greatsword will still be buffed next patch while engineer rifle is nerfed because purity of purpose?

We need degrees/stacks of outnumbered. +5 for hugely outnumbered is fine, but there should also be +4 for slightly less outnumbered, +3 for slightly less again and so on.

This binary state of “nothing if not outnumbered” / “+5 for outnumbered” is just silly and just encourages map hopping at the end of each tick.

That would imply someone going 1v30 for some reason has a better advantage over someone going 1v50. I’m pretty sure you have no chance in either scenario.

Outnumbered is outnumbered.

- Reduce the outnumbered pip gain to +2 and the amount will be fixed.
- Add a 2.5m cooldown on gaining pips to fix map hop (ie you have to have played at least half the tick on your current map).
- Finally make it so that if you have been “determined” buffed for 2.5m (again, half a tick) you dont gain any more pips until the buff is removed, to fix safe spawn afkers.

Boom everything fixed.

Guild Hall WvW upgrade for commanders

And it’ll only cost you 10,000 gold to upgrade the hall far enough to get this 1000 gold WvW upgrade!

I personally dont support any guild hall upgrade as a “QoL” thing. If guild tag shapes is to be added, it should be part of the commander system as is depending on what guild you rep at the moment.
