Yeah because that’s exactly what you are saying.

I play as a hybrid pistol/pistol scrapper (with stealth gyro of course) and even though I can kill things with ease – zerkers will probably loose ~80% of their HP in a single attack if I manage to blowtorch their face – there are plenty of things that kill me. Necros in particular have a wide range of nasty skills and can easily hardcounter any build with condi damage. The really good ones make me kill myself.

So there is no need to worry really. Most players on necros just zerg due to GWEN. A majority of them are bad at roaming.

I am failing to see the logic in this conclusion. Please help me out.

With the simultaneous implementation, it is the best way to avoid the dbl altogether. If there is a rotation all the bl’s will be replaced by the dbl for 3 months at a time which could prove disastrous. At least with the 2abl/1dbl it is limited to one map and we get to keep alpine. The other problem is that a lot of of people also do not want dbl as their home map…really no winning with this map, its basically just a lesser of two evils vote, but then again aren’t all votes all that

Its not even an evil with mixed borders as it is a self-balancing system. It is a win-win situation regardless of whether you hate or like desert, as opposed to rotating borders that is a loss for everybody.

If people avoid desert like the plague, that still means it very easy to come in fast and karmatrain the keeps. This in turn mean that the server with it as home will want to keep a presence there for defense, which begin the cycle of activity with camp capping and roaming. With 3 desert, the problem was that this activity never truly began because players where spread too thin. Most people did dislike desert after all.

If people avoid the desert so much the above never even happen, we focus the alpine population on 2 maps instead of 3, which gives more roamers, more zergs, more fights and tons of fun. Got desert as your home map? Well focus fully on offense instead because having a safe home no one goes too is an advantage.

How is any of this “the lesser evil”, regardless of your stance on desert?

Oh that sounds so bad! Thieves not being able to use smoke fields for stealth? I never once thought about that horrific consequence when I suggested it above. Now you made me feel bad for thinking about it. Those poor dagger/pistol thieves. Truly, it would be so sad. No really. I mean it. The humanity. Someone please think of the children.

Idk why people are voting for simultaneous borderlands. One server having a different BL might not be fair. Not to mention, it doesn’t make sense having mixed borderlands unless all three maps are different. Now that would be a cool idea.

I think part of the reason is because it’s quarterly rotation, when it should rotate every week to keep things fresh. A quarter is just too long.

Fair? Nobody cares about PPT. Or at least thats what everyone says.

Fact is, mixed borders is a win-win situation while rotating borders is a loose-loose situation for the community.

If people dislike desert and choose mixed borders this mean that the majority will play on 2 maps as opposed to 3 which means more activity and more fights. Thats what everyone wants.

If people like desert and choose mixed borders well then they know exactly where to go instead of spreading out over 3 borders, dont they? So that means more activity on that desert border among those that like desert.

Everybody wins.

If people dislike desert and choose rotating borders then they will hate WvW for 3 long months and let that hate go out on those that like it, creating a toxic community and low activity on all borders while making a long queue to EB.

If people like desert and choose rotating borders then they will still hate WvW for the next 3 long months and let that hate go out on those that dislike it, creating a toxic community and low activity on all borders while making a long queue to EB.

come on! i been paying attention to the result all day and is just b.s. how we have to reach at least 75%,
so far it has dropped from 79% to 77.4% , like if that wasnt enough!

It’s still bullkitten of course. It’s quite clear what the community wants. It was clear in the first vote and it’s still clear in this vote. Getting 75% or more is quite irrelevant at this point. If Anet cannot see that then they are blind.

On the last day of GW2 beta, they had a game mode where players fought map champions run by devs. Those that died became “corrupted” and were directed to kill uncorrupted players. It was a lot of fun and an interesting twist on PvP. I am surprised they never refined and tried that event again just to mix things up.

The champs (Eir and Rytlock I believe) was AI pathed along the roads instantly 360 noscope sniping corrupted players (getting close to them was impossible as they where level 80 and you where level 5 or something… as in real levels). The corruption was from being killed by Shatterers mobs after he did his flyby, or later by players. It was a no-win situation and impossible to complete broken and buggy PvE-PvP hybrid event (the music was the best part haha).

Either way, it wasnt WvW nor is it anything I want to see in WvW. Best case scenario, Eir or Rytlock as keep lords.

If mixed borderlands fail to win with something like 74% and all the people that voted yes to desert border just assumed this would be how it was implemented if they voted to keep it I will laugh.

Why throw a percentage out of thin air there… when all you have to support that is a little more than a feeling. There is a chance you are onto something, but why make it out to be something more than it actually is, when in reality you have no way to know for sure whatsoever.

What, you want me to say 70% instead? Cause thats what happened the last time we did this vote. But that vote also had 4 options or so, this one should be far more decisive. Uh… well if you dont call 70% decisive. Which Anet didnt anymore than they would call 74% decisive in this new vote. 75% or more supermajority wins, remember? The 74% number should not be all that surprising to be mentioned if you really think about it.

Its not so much a feeling as it is a fear.

I voted no to keeping desert border due to the reason I want to have no part in destroying WvW just for the same reason I have to vote yes to mixed borderlands now.

Still… The schadenfreude of mixed getting 70-74% would amuse me immensly.

WvW is what WvW is. This isnt an idea for WvW, this is a new game you describe. It would not bring back players because this isnt what kept players. WvW is what kept players but eventually everyone get bored. No amount of new “modes” change that, otherwise we’d all still be playing Pacman and go “yeah wouldnt it be awesome if the ghosts had weapons?!”.

Its already in the game, Anet just wanted to be kittens about it and not flesh it out as a stepping stone to a larger guild hall.

Its called the guild headquarters in LA and could have easily been a “max 20 members” and “bare necessities with no extras” thing by only allowing low tier upgrades. Now with +5 available first it would have worked beautifully for WvW.

Last I checked 10 groups of 5 peeps running around capping everything across 3 borders is completely impossible to control with a single 50 man zerg on one border. Sure each individual group will loose if they face that zerg, but that’s pretty irrelevant isnt it?

Tactics punish zerging.

That’s all we need. When it comes to the AoE limit, it’s a combat mechanic equal to everyone. It has little to do with why zerging is so strong. In fact, I would wager that in 80% of a fight you probably wont even reach the AoE limit due to skill range and players moving in/out of it. It’s combo fields, support skills and passive AoE buffs that make zerging in one spot strong.

True. But there is using siege and then there is using siege.

The other day we where 2 people capping a tower on a seemingly empty border. No scouts, no enemies around. We killed the lord, still no one in sight (and we did keep a very close eye in all directions as it was the border tower by hills opposite our spawn).

We capped it easy.

And 5s later the first trebuchet round from hills hit.

We ran to hills (only T1 btw), spotted two trebs there and thought eh its just some guy on a treb, lets dump a ballista down.

We where promptly showered by 2 or 3 arrowcarts.

Now before you ask… of course it was a German server. They had been there all along, just waiting for the color of the tower to change so they could start shooting with siege. Because of course.

The problem is that you still end up in the situation where this will be nowhere near enough space at primetime while it will be a barren wasteland in offtimes. If you want a sustainable solution, you need dynamic maps. IE EoTM.

In WvW format, I still imagine that as one fixed 24/7 point with a lower amount of maps, let’s say 6 EBs (1 per current number of tiers) but borders being completely dynamic “skirmishes” that open based on the activity on the EBs. Winning one would be like “winning” EoTM – the instance (border) close and that side gain a boost to the EB that “opened” the border. The border maps can be alpine, desert or EoTM (as it is now).

This would effectivly merge WvW and EoTM, no more division. Just one WvW with our current servers organized into 3 factions. Each server would be visually present in this WvW too – other servers are “allies”. It would not be like this diffuse link kitten.

Again Jade Quarry gets paired up with the lowest tier server for another 3 months…great. How does pairing get decided? Is it all random?

Of course it’s random.

The thing is, parasite servers can fight all they want, they will still be in a random tier every other month. If the primary server gain a tier or loose tier, it doesnt matter at all. The parasite server still get’s relinked.

Basicly, if you’re not on a primary server… go transfer to one now. Or wait 2 months for the next round.

The player cap is 60, then you will always have a fair amount of roamers, some randoms who kitten around purposelessly, and of course the usual AFKers.

No it’s not, lol.

Border zergs regularly reach 50 members with another 20 man guild present and people roaming/AFK in spawn. There is no way the cap is only 60. It’s around 80-90.

Please care to explain how someone just tags up to fight enemies when your guild takes up 20-30 players of space on the border.

That still leaves an entire 50 man zerg and probably a dozen more players. Plenty of space.

As a FSP player I can only strongly support this.
The amount of whole squads AFK’ing at spawn for what feels like eternity or heading out to play some pseudo-GvG instead of capping the map lately is just too frustrating for someone who just wants to actually play and see his world giving their best in the competition.
No idea wether this behaviour has sth. to do with said issue, but I just had to point it out…

As I have said before:

Guilds are the head, pugs are the body.

Try doing something without either and see how good that work out for you. They are still there, they are still playing and still bring activity. Many of the guild leaders are incidentally also the best pug commanders but zerging 24/7 is not all that fun so yes, they GvG a couple of hours. We need them to stay entertained in WvW.

Had an amusing situation the other day where someone was adamant in his opinion against GvGs on home border. We get it. Some people dont like it. That’s OK. People are entitled to their opinions. But kitten we where ahead like 50K points on the second place server and dominated home border already. Complaining about it is utterly pointless. If you want to fight the enemy then tag up and get to work. What are you waiting for, guilds to do the work, pfff?

Just a plain server split isnt even absolute worst case scenario. Imagine if FSP get linked with another low pop parasite. People from UW that like FSP will probably move there instead to stick with friends and known commanders/guilds. Then your identity will not only be “FSP sortof” but it will be diluted across a third server while UW will be a potential wasteland. Repeat until no one knows where they belong anymore except for the main servers.

He got a point with upgrade. Fighting doors and walls is not fun and auto upgrade + fortified gate + guild upgrade made it worse. All those things are just getting in the way of the fun : which is fighting each other.

I would rather have the following upgrade system :

Tier 0 : wooden wall & no gate
Tier 1 : wooden wall & wooden gate
Tier 2 : reinforce wall & wooden gate
Tier 3 : reinforce wall & reinforce gate

Think I’m crazy with the “no gate” part for the first tier?

Would be much better (and more logical) to simply not repair when capped. Increase the amount of sups given by camps to compensate and let players fix T0 objectives themselves… This would mean it’s possible for the server that lost an objective to try to return and fight for it again before it’s closed.

Well we still dont exactly know what’s going to happen. Maybe some servers get relinked, maybe all. Maybe some are relinked with the same servers (just like repeated matchups). I have no idea what the criteria is for the links.

All I know is this: We saw this issue coming a million miles away and concerns for the effects of breaking apart two more or less connected servers that are without any clear definition was voiced the second the news of the links came out. The moment Anet sees WvW as just another EoTM where servers and guilds is irrelevant is the moment WvW dies. Maybe that’s a good thing. I really dont know anymore.

So uh for the people saying they wanted a new map but don’t want dbl.

What happens if we vote for a new map, they make it, and you don’t like it, gonna ask them to delete that too?

ANY map made for WvW should not be put into the live game until it was properly finished in Beta and tested and corrected until it was made ready for the live game. If they allowed players to provide feedback and used that feedback to correct the issues with the map before they make it live, they would not have had this problem in the first place. The goal was to not have this one or any other go live until the players voted that it was ready. That never happened, and now they can’t do much of what needs to be done due to it being in the live game and not beta.

Completely ignoring the fact that Alpine was introduced with bugged orbs that was removed and later had a quarter of the map deleted in order to make the ruins. WvW maps have changed in the live game since game release. It’s really just a matter of reaction time and quick changes, not keeping completely silent for nearly half a year while the community hold its breath and just about suffocate to death.

Simple changes to make Desert more tolerable

I dont often post threads, but when I do I’m bored.

Since it’s pretty inevitable that Desert is coming back given the poll, I thought I’d post some simple things that could be done with it. By simple I mean things that doesnt require the entire map to be rebuilt from scratch, which is 90% of the other suggestions that seem to pop up. Moving things is a rebuild. Making it EB is a rebuild. Flattening the entire thing is a rebuild. Etc. Anet never read these things but kitten it, I refer to the previously mentioned bored part. So here we go.

Remove the stealth fog around earth keep
Just delete it. It’s an unnecessary and totally pointless graphics performance hog.

Reduce the amount of earth spikes by 50%
Keep the kittenblock spikes by all means to give earth keep something but they pop up way to often and are pretty kitten annoying

Remove the fire turrets on fire keep
Just delete them. Fire keep already got the lava teleporters as a boon. The turrets are utterly pointless.

Bring bloodlust to the central area
With the removal of the old kittened event, it’s completely unused. So bring in bloodlust ruin caps there. At least we know they work without lagging the entire border. 1 in the center, 4 around, done deal.

Add new long range super trebuchets to the towers and keeps
Functions the same as static canons/mortars, these trebuchets would be available from T1 and provide long range fire tower->keep and keep->tower that emulate the way Alpine and EB work with safe siege. Fire keep can fire at SW tower and vice versa, Earth keep can fire at NW and NE tower and vice versa, etc and so on. The idea of this is to make up for broken WvW keep/tower design without actually changing the objective positions and make towers and keeps able to threaten each other more easily simply by being held, thus bringing out the desire to cap and defend them.

If anything was done about this, I’d suggest having a map chat that allows players from different opposing servers to talk together, say for a GvG or dueling

Oh the flaming and block/reports that would get thrown around there.

Map and team chat is a sideeffect of PvE (and thus WvW) having the same chat channels as sPvP. Nothing more too it. Nothing to change, nothing to fix. Like having 6 toes on a foot, it may look a little odd but it doesnt hurt anyone.

My proposal is to shift that burden back onto the team that’s outnumbering the other. Will that affect small groups trying to fight on same map as a friendly zerg? Yes. But the burden would be on the larger team as a whole to figure out the logistics.

“Figure out the logistics”? Well I think it’s an incredibly poor way of doing it, changing something as fundamental as downed state.

Everyone should suffer the same combat mechanics – no matter if it’s 10v1 or 10v10. 1 player is 1 player under the same rules as every other player on every other map. Winning against the odds of a numerically superior foe should be up to skill, group composition and tactics, not having mechanical handicaps. The numbers will always vary.

The downed state is a pretty broken system outside of 1v1’s, and players blobbing together already have a huge advantage over smaller groups, this would really give the outnumbered players a fighting chance.

Except this would make it even more broken in small scale. Outmanned is global, not local. IE you can fight 5v3 while technically being “outmanned” because there is a 70 man blob elsewhere on the map. Is that fair?

You’d have to change the outmanned system entirerly. Which they wont bother with.

I found in addition to being a stellar scouting build, I could flip camps and such easily without breaking stealth.

That sounds difficult since stealthed people doesnt towards capping (cant even count the times I have laughed at a thief or two trying to “defend” a camp I am capping).

Other classes that stealth like mesmer and ranger feel no where near as bulky as an engi and thieves have been pushed so far out of stealth is super rare to see anyone run shadow arts anymore.

In WvW are three kinds of thieves today of which two heavily rely on stealth – the traditional d/p which pop up for backstabs then vanishes and teleport a km away, the DD roflstomper only using the super mario attack and little stealth and finally the permastealth ghost thief only using traps that doesnt reveal.

Anyway the sneak gyro comes with an inherent flaw that balances out its stealth – its a freaking gyro following the scrapper about. Zerkers will pop it in seconds and blanket AoE can be employed. There is also little in terms of skills the engie can use that doesnt also reveal him, unlike mesmers that can let phantasms work or thieves that can use traps. In practice, the real “mesmer or thief eqvivalent” surprise buttstealth it provides is only about 6s at the end of standing still for 30s behind an obstacle where the enemy cant see the gyro. Which isnt bad, but its situational. Personally I find it best used defensivly or for stopping an enemy stomp on party members in small scale.

We found an alternative way to bring down a ghost thief

Before this clip, he spent his time 99% in stealth (and his buddy, the second ghost thief dead about 10m behind me in the clip). I could look at that field for a minute and only see smoke fields popping here and there. He tried to change his tactics and not stealth in order to lure us closer. Hilarity ensued.

Early on and a couple of years in, some of us estimated the game would last to around 2020 if they kept doing story seasons and maintained the gemstore followed by the hype for the next in the series. If GW3 is in the making, then we are getting close to a reveal… But I dont think we’re there yet.

You don’t have to use a ramdisk. Where did you get this idea from?
I write to a regular HDD which also holds the game files and despite it sounds like I/O bottleneck, it ain’t, because during loading screens there is not much to render (and thus to be processed) and else everything’s cached (that’s what a loading sequence is for after all).

I get this idea from the fact that HDDs has been obsolete hardware for years now.

I only have SSDs in my gaming computer and every other computer I own. SSDs however arent ideal to constantly write and read from, so a ramdisk is a more logical option for active back-in-time Shadowplay recording, also given the fact that 16-32gb ram is pretty standard. Unlike what you state, Shadowplay does not use vram for storage. It use a temporary drive location that it will continuously write too. At my settings, I use 3gb out of 16gb ram to record 4 minutes back in time of 60fps 90Mbps 1080p footage.

If you want to record like 2-3 hours of constant footage then sure, use a HDD by all means. I usually only record small clips from roaming fights, duels and skirmishes. Sometimes I combine multiple clips using the tick timer to see when to click the button, lol.

IN WvW a flamethrower/rifle engineer actually had my p/p scrapper beat in a one on one fight some weeks ago. Yeah out of all the bloody things you can meet. I’m built for roaming and I can duel every class (or 2) with confidence yet that guy on a silly rifle build and flamethrower of all stupid things took me down like a baby. It was quite embarassing. I’m sure I would have handled it alot better had I actually fought similar builds more than once every 6 months or so, but still.

So not only will more dollys have been slaughtered to players than there where total deaths in WW2 (since the last stats released by Anet it’s probably up to double that count) we will also strap bombs to them and send to suicide bomb keeps?

You people disgust me!

Unless of course the dolly explode with a fireworks display of red ribbons and dancing baby quaggans on a rainbow.

Objective Aura - Poorly thought out garbage

Lets just consider for a moment what the intent of creating the objective aura was…
Ideas:

1. Allow defenders a small buff to fend off larger forces?
2. *Allow a ‘homeland buff’ to foster community and sense of domain and territory in the bl. Creating a very conservative meta where the outermost towers become k-train bait. Decreasing the benefits of moving directly into the heart of a bl’s holdings.
*3. *Allow larger guilds more recognition and ‘perceived’ impact on their bl community.
*4.
+5 supply in some places increases the speed of gameplay for all sizes of groups especially small.
5. ????

I mean lets just assume 1-5 are correct. Well, what makes it a poor system is because of how small the stats are (except the +5 supply), how indiscriminately large the aura space is made to be, and how indiscriminately the aura’s can be placed. Outside of the +5 supply (which happens to apply to a small static zone….hint hint), I don’t see how anyone can be validate the system in its present form.

I dont see how you can completely invalidate it in it’s present form since you present no reasonable argument as to why it’s poor.

Is the bonus small? Actually, it’s a pretty sizable bonus to stats but for arguments sake let’s say it’s small. So what? You want big bonuses? We had that once with early bloodlust implementation. It was awfull.

Indiscriminate large auras? Well yes. That’s what you need to defend a keep because the enemy will deploy siege outside the walls. It also encourage people to come out and fight man to man. Which granted not many servers do, they build 10 arrowcarts instead. Still, the bonus is there in a wide area to give a boon to the defender.

Your third point is a moot. Zero guilds do that because all one care about is +5 and boons.

Your 4th point is just a statement that argues for it being a good implementation and the fifth is not an argument at all, it’s a bunch of question marks.

Uhm.. Function gyro allows for some fairly amazing plays… it’s a very nice elite spec effect.

Plus I love getting questions like “Why do you have a helicopter on your shoulder?” :P

Can you elaborate on fairly amazing plays? Do you mean PvP? I can’t seem to use it in combat since there are too many targets near the thing I want to help res, so selecting the exact target is often impossible with action camera. I can tell you right now that it can’t be used to stomp anything in pve, so half of its function is gone there, and it doesn’t do anything while soloing. Am I missing something central to its strengths?

Yeah, the one thing you failed to mention which is neither PvE or PvP – its WvW.

It is a excellent tool for ranged stomps. It can easily turn a fight in your favor, especially when outmanned and impossible to go in for melee stomp because you need to keep everyone busy.

Function gyro alone turn the scrapper into one of the best roaming fighters on the battlefield (big difference from roaming runners which is pretty much every other class and build).

EBG Desert Map + 3 Alpine BL's

You claim there were absolutely zero roamers on the basis that you don’t like the roamers that were on DBL? This is beyond absurd. At some point you are going to have to face the truth that if a majority of players really did hate DBL then the poll would reflect that and it would soon be removed from the game.

The density of small groups 1-15 on Desert was nothing compared to how Alpine looks now.

On my server which is higher tier now than pre-link, there was a reason why EB queues pre-link with Desert could top at 120, while they are now at maybe 20… if any queue at all in the middle of primetime. There are much much more people spread out on all 3 borders. Border commanders are having fun again, compared to the literal drought of players on Desert.

And before you ask, I rarely if ever played on EB even when Desert was in effect. I played on Desert every day for hours. I learned every square centimeter of it, every siege spot and every little nook and cranny. I loved the big change that made it so much more pleasurable to roam on. Yet Alpine is still the vastly superior and more fun WvW map.

The current poll reflect an idealized version of Desert that people want to see become reality together with the illusion that the implementation will be mixed borders before that poll is even seen.

Until we have the vote deciding how a possible implementation look like – since the vote where 70% in favor of mixed borders was disapproved by Anet – I stick by my statement:

I will vote for the border to be removed period, anything else is too risky for the overall wellbeing of the community.

Imagine if we have this vote, decide to keep desert. And then they make another kittened beyond belief poll with confused wording and the majority of the community once again get steamrolled by the minority on a default ruling? No. Just no.

Apparently you missed the post from the devs saying that they were going to reword and redo the 1bl-2bl mixed bls poll…..AFTER this poll.

Apparently you missed reading the first kitten sentence in the post you quote. I know its going to be redone – I read this poll options too. I just dont trust Anet to do it better until I see it. If the vote is just do you want mixed borders or not without the assumption that not getting 75% on mixed will mean we get quarterly rotations then fine. I think mixed would easily win. But again, I dont trust Anet with that at this point in time. I would be happy if the outcome is what people here assume will happen. I will laugh if Anet pushes everyone up against a wall and go for quarterly rotations on default ruling because it’s a poll with 5 different choices and a 75% requirement on one of them.

What one hear over TS is often the clicketyclack of tactile blue Cherry “gamer” switches. Pfff, no. Thats kitten switches only used to bring attention to the fact you are using a mechanical keyboard. Real gamers use red or black switches. Personally I would recommend the red ones over black.

If you want a cheaper quality mechanical board (ie not $200 keyboard with 5000 buttons, full RGB lighting, made out of airplane aluminum and have built in coffee makers) you can see if you can find the good old Steelseries 6Gv2 black/red. CM Quickfire is similar in design, there are a few others around there.

What I don’t get is, for all these players who are hating on the desert borderlands, since it looks like you will be “stuck” with it and you know that ANet is going to release another, amended poll on mixed vs. rotational borderlands, why you don’t just campaign for and vote for mixed borderlands? Then you will always have your alpine maps to play on, and those who like and enjoy and want to play on desert borderlands can do so also.

I mean, if you were to vote for mixed borderlands, then you won’t be “stuck” playing anything…

We kittening did overwhelmingly vote for it but Anet said 70% in favor was not enough so they where going to use quarterly rotations. Anet only changed their minds after massive backlash, remember?

I want desert. I voted for 1 desert and 2 alpine. But kitten it if I’m going to say yes to keeping desert after that kittening travesty, without knowing what the implementation poll look like.
