It would be great if Anet would release statistics, but tbh it would probably just embarass them.

As somone that pretty much exclusively played on borders even when desert was around, I think that any given alpine border has somewhere around 10-15x the average activity.

Silly idea.

A better one is removing the absolutely ridiculous way of crafting siege via the forge and instead add superior siege crafting to weaponsmithing (400+), huntsman (400+) and artificer (400+), ie the three weapon crafts. Oh and before people say “but that means I as a hardcore WvWer that log in directly to EB have to PvE to level up my crafting, how horrible!” I say kitten off and dont craft superior siege then.

ehm wrong Dawdler.. why the hell are people always thinking only about WvW in regard of servr costs?

People change servers also out of other reasons, than just only WvW, for example to play together with friends, that are there…

Lol!

Best laugh I have had in a long time. You do realize its not 2012 anymore?

- Megaserver in PvE means everyone can play with everyone regardless of what server they picked. Rightclick, join.
- Server population is affected by WvW only.
- Server transfers affect WvW only.

Mount Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dawdler.8521

For me personally, the waypoint system is far better than the standard mount way of things in mmorpgs. I can understand the cosmetic part but it doesn’t seem worth it considering the amount of work that would be needed to implement it into the game.

Technically its not alot of work since they already have the ingredients for plain mounts:

- Remove all 33% swiftness boons and 25% traits from the game.
- Add a new mount item in inventory and a button to enable/disable it (say, F5).
- Mount items could be carpets, horses, golems, charr bikes, whatever.
- Being on a mount gives 33% speed boost.
- Being attacked on a mount give you a “knocked off” debuff knocking you down for 2s (cannot be avoided by traits or skills) and crippling you for 10s (cannot be cleansed), while disabling the mount. This is to encourage getting off your mount before combat.
- A mount cannot be enabled in combat.

Done deal. We got mounts with current size limitations and as an extra bonus we have people running at normal speeds instead of perma swiftness/25% being required and meta. Movement in WvW for example would become a whole lot interesting, bringing in a risk/reward aspect.

Now, if you want mounted combat we are talking about alot of new content in terms of animations and coding, yes.

Sidenote: Waypoints would still exist with this.

Absolutely and utterly ridiculous. This would break WvW, the only place where server transfers even matter. Why would you even suggest this? Most if not all WvWers know that transfers are already broken and either too cheap or with too little restrictions.

In fact, all your ideas are ridiculous in my book. Money → gems is the type of “subscription” that GW2 has. You buy gems, you get to buy stuff in the gemstore and you can convert it to gold to buy stuff ingame, done deal.

Sugg: Enemies show on mini map for your area

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Your settings are correct. Only downed and sentry-marked enemies are shown.

In scouting situation you can see enemies, but your team won’t. You have to type what you see on chat every time like “5 enemies running up the slope next to Woodhaven” instead of having the game report their positions automatically.

This kind of change would dramatically increase value of scouting and make it actually rewarding.

I still fail to see the point with all the automation. Sentries, scouting blimps, emergency waypoints, hell even the blimp barrage in SM, etc and so on… its all pointless fluff that has taken away the involvement of playing the game, seeing things with your own eyes and doing stuff with your own hands.

I dont like it dangnabbit!

Condi's are stronger then power builds?

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Only work while they are on cooldown and they have a HUGE cooldown where as condi’s can be applied and reapplied very easily. The biggest problem is the quick and continual application. there is only a a very small portion of people who can manage condis properly where as a large portion of people can dodge power builds and use damage mitigation easily.

Food and passive traits is on huge cooldowns now? O.o

Most classes can power build and match condi builds. The problem is that you rarely face condi only enemy comps – those with condi and power are the bad ones as condi will suppress you while power kills you. Its rarely the other way around except in one case, chrono perplexity.

Dawdler.8521

This makes no sense. With the nerf to rallying in WvW, having multiple Warriors running banners is a huge advantage for the zerg running them compared to an opposing zerg without them. Nothing turns the tide quicker than seeing all those downs you worked so hard for getting rallied en mass due to the other zerg’s Wars coordinating their banners.

I don’t deny that Revs have pretty much made Warriors obsolete when it comes to boon sharing. But to say that any more than one Warrior is a “waste” is down right silly. In addition to banners, they also still bring far more damage to the melee train than all those loot stick wielding Guards out there.

Well you see, the problem here is that the more warriors you have, the less revs and guards you have and is more likely more likely to loose against those comps.

Hence, its a waste. A 50 man zerg only need 2 warriors today – one to res the commander if he is focused down and another as backup if the first is sleeping on the job. If you need more, you lost the fight anyway.

What's the kill order for small fights?

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Todays experience will not be tomorrows experience.

In my experience, you cant analyze the kill order until you start fighting. Not going to say that build diversity is wide when figting mostly meta comps, but it still exist. That said, this is my most common line of thought and sequence of targets:

- Necro
Due to insane AoE and fears, the necro will ruin your stomps. He need to go. Even when built tanky and I go outmanned against them, I often focus fire.

- Ele, thief, rev, anything with highest probability to be squishy when built for damage and played less than stellar.

- Engie, warrior, guardian, ranger, these have a tendancy to run with invouln traits and skills and are targets of opportunity if they have popped them. Otherwise, just try to avoid bursts until one of the priority targets go down.

Thats it, but we are missing one class:

- Mesmer, the special little snowflake that cant be placed at any one point on a priority list. Unlike thieves that often suffer heavy damage in group combat due to AoE and can be great opportunity targets, the mesmer will 90% of the time stay ranged, dump a ton of confusion and then slip away. If you can lock him down and focus at the beginning of the fight, fantastic. But chasing him mid fight will probably lead to death. Yet you still dont want to leave him alone because if they got just one more condi (like say, the necro), you are also dead.

corrupt boon on necro sounds really good here tbh.

Until you realize that the boons go up fast as kitten again and the condis are cleansed about as fast.

The boontrain will also have a backline of necros so if you bring enough necros to theoretically squish the main force of the boontrain, you wont have a strong enough frontline to withstand their push and somewhat smaller bomb at the same time. Best case scenario is often you kill a couple of their frontline, they kill half your backline.

TL;DR The only way to fight a boontrain is with a boontrain.

Right…

Or you could just duel right there and then for 5-10 minutes and then go your merry way.

Duelists are still players in the field. We dont want to loose them to other fields anymore than we want to loose guilds scrimming. It’s part of what makes WvW an open ended PvP experience. kitten those saying “booohooo the border is full, please leave so that I can bring my 80 man zerg in because I need that to fight”.

If there was 50 duelers per map every day of the week, fine I might concede that it’s a problem. But right now as is with maps not even queueing primetime unless its T1, I dont see why you need a solution for a problem that doesnt exist.

I literally see no change in the field when it comes to both classes. Both stock are still completely pushed out for elite specs and both those elite specs are still common to see in the exact same roles they have had since HoT release. Personally, I think it should be lowered to 20-25% boon duration for other allies (still 50% for the rev itself).

Or how about 0%?

No really, why should it even be shared? Why cant this be a skill for the player only? The rev is already AoE sharing boons far better than the individual utility skills of other classes (no contest at all in perma uptime vs giving like 5s on 25s cd or similar).

Without it being shared, we would be back to normal boon durations on other classes and the rev would still be insanely strong. Lowering the upkeep on it as a tradeoff would be fine.

Trapper Thief back?!

in WvW

Never left, and yeah they unnecessarily nerfed trap runes when that want the problem, all that did was hurt other builds.
What needed to happen was to have direct damage added to the traps so they reveal the thief when activated.

Problem with this is that its a flawed way of thinking given current implementation of stealth. Ok, so thief is revealed with direct damage on the trap. Then what? Smoke field, leap and thief is gone the next second. Wont be seen until the next trap.

Unless reveal is changed so that a thief (or any class thats in stealth) cannot stealth again for say 15s after having done damage, then yeah maybe I will agree with you.

More limited zone-only chat like in GW2 is incredibly good in comparison.

A community guild is a good enough solution for this issue and it involves the players a little. The 500 man limit shouldnt really be an issue – just kick people thats not active and prioritize other guild officers and scouts.

They don’t want to pay royalties to Valve. But ultimately they probably would have a lot more players. I am no pro though, ask one of the geeks here

Technically, I think Anet can bypass that. They can put up GW2 vanilla as a F2P game on Steam and simply let players discover they can buy HoT via this page… But maybe Valve doesnt agree to that, lol.

I seem to recall someone mentioning that Valve would take a cut from ingame sales as well if GW2 is on Steam. Or maybe it was just speculation, I dont really know. Either way, if thats the case it would probably be unacceptable to Anet (or rather, NCSoft).

Ranger discrimination.. lol

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Like the odd guy playing ranger matters, 99% of the time a zerg wipes it will be down to things like the commander making bad decisions or the 5 melee that die on the first push because like most WvW players they basically can’t play the game (and in a game where the level of the playerbase is as terrible as GW2 and the game is fairly low skill, that is saying something…), etc, it isn’t going to be the three guys on rangers, that are the issue.

Thats not really the argument against them though.

To take your 5 dead melee/3 rangers example, people (especially commanders) would argue that if it had been 8 guardian instead in melee on the commander, they wouldnt have died. And those 3 rangers didnt matter because you had no use for them with 8 unkillable guards instead.

That argument can go whichever way from there.

Its not entirerly incorrect because there is a chance those 8 guards could have spread out the damage, mitigated it and avoided the loss of 5 peeps. In this scenario the rangers are worthless. But would the battle be won because of that? Impossible to tell.

You could also argue that maybe 5 melee deaths could be handled by the commander ans that instead the battle is won because ranged peeps keep up the damage and down the enemies. Again, its impossible to tell.

In the end, commanders will choose the path of least resistance. Its just a matter of better safe than sorry. Simple fact is, to him 8 guardians is better than 5 guardians and 3 rangers. The chance of 8 guards being of better use is higher. I only know of a few commanders and that can work with a small core and properly direct ranged. I would like to see more of it as I think flanking attacks is very underrated in todays boontrain steamrolls but alas… meta is meta.

[Crazy idea] No point after some time

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Ok, I just had this crazy idea and I can’t yet decide if it’s utterly stupid or if it might be interesting :

You don’t receive anymore tick points for a structure if you held it for more than 8 hours.

I know. It goes completely against everything that WvW is designed for. Usually, you want to upgrade / siege your structure and keep them for as long as possible. But!

I want to know how do you think that this would influence the match up. Tell me

Well its stupid because you missed a blatantly obvious issue: why would anyone want to defend a worthless structure? You’d just plan for a controlled flip 8h in.

This idea only work if you do a PPT down / direct cap points up system. But in that case, your 8h is IMO way too long and would defeat the purpose of diminishing returns against uncontested objective. Need to pull that down to like 3h or so.

Personally, I would prefer a simple value system. Each objective still tick a set amount of points, but each tick their “value” increase too – at T0 less, at T3 more. So if it a tower ticks 10, 5 points is added each tick to its value. 6 at T1, 8 at T3. When capping that tower, you get the sum of the value. So on the map you might see a T3 tower with 236 value, or a T0 tower with 20 value, etc and so on.

This change would make it more valuable to defend fresh objectives while also better equalizing points when taking long held T3 objectives, making it desireable to both cap and defend at all times. Holding an objective would still always be a net gain though.

Rams are broken. Thanks Anet.

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

I mean really.. do people really want everyone to run the so called BEST class so everyone can have boonshare etc etc and win all the fights?? Boorrrinnggg…

When the enemy run a meta 50 man zerg consisting of 50% guardians/revs, 40% necros/elementalists and 10% warriors, yes. Yes you really want that. Otherwise you have near zero chance to compete. Because that’s all it is. A simple matter of escalating competition. This setup vs another 50 man zerg with 10 random thieves/engies/rangers will be at a major advantage. I would even dare to say that you’d probably do the commander a favor by showing the true numbers of his zerg and not be in the group.

Besides, you dont really have to be in the squad. I love playing my condi scrapper and I often run alongside a zerg instead of inside it, capping camps, taking out flankers and generally havoc. I dont even see that as roaming. I see that as supporting the zerg with sidequests :p

Well, not really. The story missions are ok-ish throughout but they are never really impressive in terms of design, acting and story. In fact the later part of the main mostly turn into a garbled mess (Anet kittened it up and even had to rearrange missions). What comes after in the Living Story is generally much better designed (except season 1 that was open world, but that was awesome in another way).

Either way, consider them a filler to the game that you can complete in your own pace. The XP is good and the loot is decent.

Dawdler.8521

Given (DA or CS) + Tr, it actually has pretty much the same base damage. Throw Bound or the CS/DA line into the mix and you actually end up with better than RF on a lower channel time and obviously a lower cooldown.

Honestly, I never seen Rapidfire hit harder than Unload. Even more after unload started to stack might per hit.

Rapid Fire is a 3.75 vs Unload at 3.2. Unload does stack might but Rapid Fire stacks Vuln so it is clipping just as hard. Add on the pierce trait and Rapid Fire DPS can easily 5x Unload on multiple targets.

If we are factoring in buffs, Ranger has some of the biggest single attack buffs in the game. Signet of Wild/Hunt if memory serves is a 75% damage buff. Then of course we have the fact that Rapid Fire is also tied to a weapon with a quick Stealth, fast Knock back and an AoE.

If thieves had the Ranger longbow skills, the salt in this forum would reach epic levels.

The build I run for my Ranger is designed to critically hit 100% of the time without losing much Power damage. I’m using modifiers like +%‘s and stacking Ferocity while relying on Fury, Spotter and Hunter’s Tactic’s (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hunter's_Tactics – which doesn’t want to link for some reason…) for the Precision.

When hitting a glass target from max range with Long Range Shot, I’ll do between 3.2 and 3.9k per hit. I’ve killed Thieves/Ele’s who were focused on something else with only a couple auto attacks numerous times.

Quickening Zephyr + Strength of the Pack! + Rapid Fire has gone as high as 19k on a player and as high as 32k on an NPC. On average, I’m only using QZ + RF however.

Thieves are the main thing I save this combo for because many of them are either not expecting the damage to come so quickly or are just too slow to react. But it will 100 – 0 them in exactly 1second (QZ halves the RF cast time) doing between 12 and 15k. I’m not sure what the damage is like from Unload on average as I don’t play Thief but I just thought I’d give some numbers from my experience with Ranger.

Also note that Signet Of The Hunt + Signet Of The Wild + Steady Focus + Remorseless + Scholar Runes can = up to 10k Long Range Shots (those are auto attacks remember). There’s a video I saw not long ago showcasing how this can be done. It’s obviously a total gimmick build and if you miss your shots or if your target survives you’re screwed but yes, Ranger has a ton of damage modifiers.

When I see such a ranger, what happens most of the time is:

Me: “Is that a ranger? Looks like a longbow.”
Ranger: “kitten11111111”
Me: “3…2…1…” pushes a single button
Ranger: Knocks himself back followed by rapid firing into his own face.

Full Nomad Guardian OR Warrior?

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

I would have to say Guardian as well but I’d just like to add that if you happen to decide to run Tactics + Shouts with your Warrior, I believe you could apply some decent AOE heals, too. Still, Guardian is the better choice regardless of build but Warrior can add to the zergs support if you run the right skills/traits, mainly Tactics. Which also has a minor trait that grants Healing Power per stack of Might.

Well the problem with the Warrior being able to do it so-so is that the Guardian will always do it better. I’m not one for meta zerg dps builds, I’ve ran pretty much every tanky build there is for long periods (even frontline tanky mesmer, lol).

It’s the passive AoE heals that take these classes far above the rest.

Warrior got banners, but their mechanic breaks down in a quick moving zerg fight and with them being utility skills they cripple survivability by taking up valuable slots.

Guardian with it’s fully traited virtue of resolve and healing symbols will just pump hp into the zerg constantly.

The same with an Elementalist fully traited soothing mist, as mentioned above. Cleric Tempest is currently my choice for zerging (I roam with a Scrapper otherwise). My soothing mist ticks for ~700hp, autoattack heal for 1K hp each, etc and so on. I love using it offensivly and pushing with the melee train, pumping in all the waters on attacks rather than regroups – which incidently almost become pointless. With enough heals the commander can just constantly slice into the enemy. Personally I made that class choice because honestly, nomad Guardian is boring in comparison, lol. But OP wanted one of the melee ones.

Zerg? Guardian will be best as you can use all that healing power to help your zerg. You also got secondary skills like wall of reflection to do tons of damage (well if they keep shooting you). Spec for maxing passive AoE heal, mace and shield then use bigger marks just to kitten off commanders (them swearing over what idiot use bigger marks is sooooo sweet).

But the Warrior will probably perform better solo.

Note that “perform” is a relative term. Best case scenario is that maybe they can kill a zerker thief if that thief is a moron and the fight last 10 minutes.

But of course no one will ever admit true healers even exist in this game cause ’zerker roolz and guardian 11111111 is the only true way to play. Commanders will probably dump these frontline healers in ranged only parties with zero stab because the only party that matters is 3 guards, a warrior and a rev. Then they kitten when backliners get caught and die, followed by where are the heals.

How do you counter bandwaggoners?

without being crippled by glicko rankings.

Than why not kill Glicko?

If 1st in Tier, move up; if last in Tier, move down. Server borderland “colors” should be random (so ex. T1, the #1 server has just as much chance of being any side color green/red/blue as another – no more green only dominance + good to change up things as healthy).

Top T1 server still needs to come in 1st or 2nd (PPT) to stay in T1 (it’s “good to be the king”). Bottom of T8 server can still make it to T7 any given week if they come in first the during the week (if server pride is good and they don’t give up, bottom tier server can always move up).

You have volatility between tiers (no need to account for WvW population imbalances since it self corrects the following week(s) via PPT) and you can freely open up all server transfers except the T1 first and second winning PPT servers from the prior week (more money/more gems for ANet too).

Server community “pride” is restored.

Everyone wins. Done.

[Work on fixing (tweak) PPT values by clearly laying out the rules ahead of time.]

This system only ends up with servers bouncing between tiers – not populated enough to win a tier above which means they will go right back down, while the server that did go down probably roflstomp the tier they are in. Next matchup it will just repeat.

Its not good.
