HoT (or any expansion released years after main game release) is not p2w because it doesnt do what developers intend with p2w: continously exploit and prey on peoples addiction and competetive nature. It doesnt always apply to you but someone will always give in to the dark side.
There is nothing in GW2 that currently do this. Does GW2 vanilla make you wanna buy HoT? Sure it does. Still not p2w though.
Since I like imaginary examples, heres another scenario of what p2w would be:
Teleport to friend is now available in sPvP and WvW on a 1m cooldown.
Do you need that to play the GW2? No. No more than you need HoT. Thats how people argue " I can still play this game for free, its not p2w!". But good luck when sPvP teams start demanding you have it or when WvW guilds no longer allow members that doesnt have 50 of them in the backpack every night.
wether a cost is up front or recurring doesnt change the cost. 5-6 weeks of 3 hours a day is not considered a small investment for most people.
many would actually prefer the recurring over the up front (credit)
anyhow point is you can get to this games end goals, through long term time spent, or you can pay and advance straight to the end, and compete, or cooperate at the same level, with people who spent an extra few hundred hours playing than you have.
but that option is only available for those who pay.
Thats not pay 2 win though. Thats a different thing. Its also not entirerly true in GW2.
If you have one player paying $50 to get the game and jump into PvP compared to one paying $50+$150 in gems→gold to join the same PvP… the latter has nothing as an advantage except buying a few amulets – something unlikely to make him win since both are noobs.
If you want pay 2 win, heres an imaginary scenario:
Repairs of armor can only be done with a cashshop item that cost $1. Each damaged armor piece reduces the stats on it by 33%. You get 1 free repair item every week.
That would be p2w since whoever got cash can just throw themselves at the enemy.
Someone please tell me what I can pay $1 for everytime I join WvW in order to win the the matchup. I dont know what it is but if GW2 is p2w I want it. Is it a 30m Quaggan outfit that gives +500 in every stat? I still want it.

Seems everything you describe is players leaving the game naturally and the remaining players actually trying to play the game. Do you think guilds would be happy if you jack up the costs of transfers? No, they will just leave instead because they dont find their server fun anymore.
Or what, did you plan on forcing players to play WvW? I’m interested in hearing how you would achieve that.
6. Really then, it looks to me like the only thing keeping people in WvW is that some people just love the game mode. That’s cool and all, but I know all of you are worried about decreasing player population. If you want to generate more PvE interest in WvW, the rewards need to be increased significantly (not to AB Multiloot levels, but to silverwastes or cursed shore levels) and the cap on the reward track tick needs to be done away with. Well, either that or make all sources of WXP also provide ticks for the reward tracks. I’d be ok with ticks stuck at a hard maximum, but each time I kill a player I get 3-4 points for the track as well. It’d make me play more and afk less.

All PvP games is about loving the game mode. Whether its a MOBA, MMO, FPS or some kittenty mobile game is irrelevant. Has anyone ever argued that only people that love Battlefield 4 will keep playing it, because there sure as hell isnt enough loot to keep people interested?
Generating interest in WvW should be done by exposing the game mode better to PvE, not just throw loot at players and go look at us, we have shinies! That’s an incredibly shallow reason for playing WvW. No, the only thing Anet need to do is integrate it better than a button some people barely know exist. Update the loading screen to list some WvW data, server wide notifications on reset night that say you won or lost the war, server wide call to arms when being the underdog in terms of score, big note that a war of the mists event is going on this week (monthly).
They do it for those kittening stupid sPvP tournaments that torment us every kittening time with their links in the loading screen. But noooooooooooo… cant do it for WvW.

Speaking of WvW, cheeze builds such as permastealth condi trapper or dire perplexity is alot stronger in pretty much any situation. But does p/p work? Yes. Its actually quite fun and intensestyle of play. You can do it on stock thief too, no daredevil. I run my thief as trick based p/p/bow with some amount of armor (1400 toughness/vit I think) and will wreck squishies in +1 fights and even 1v1 dueling to a modest degree (thief isnt my strongest suite). I actually have near zero stealth, lol.
Between a thief and a p/p scrapper (screw that engie) the scrapper has the advantage 90% of the time. Thieves just flee like little girls when I am on my scrapper – or they accidentally die by tripping over a gyro or something.
Either way, both are fun.
they could fix the fps part of it with dx12 but that will require time and investment.
Yes and magical elves will come out of your computer to blow on it when it gets too hot from all that DX12 speed. Have you even seen game benchmarks coming out? Marginal, if any differences.

Hahaha… we would see very little outcry, mark my words. The identity of parasite servers was lost in the first month of linking when Anet did nothing to improve their ingame WvW visibility (and still hasnt done anything). They mean nothing other than a proxy way of playing on the primary server.

We’ve had this sort of “debate” so many times with no resolution because no-one has been able to define “night” in an objective way.
Absolutely ridiculous.
I have already defined “night” in every response I have made on the subject: when total population drops so low that three unbalanced sides lead to exponential point gains. “Night” in WvW is when few are playing.
So scale PPT and PPK by total population. The lower the population, the lower PPT and higher PPK. Scaling happen 24/7, in the morning, noon or in the middle of primetime. Yes, even in the night. Delay the effect a couple of hours in order to not game the system and you’re set.
It’s completely universal, doesnt care about timezones, whether you are in the US or EU or anything in between. It simply is.
If you can argue that this is not objective, please. Go ahead.

For the sake of example; If there are 3 superior AC’s aimed at the side wall of Klovan, all of them manned prior to a zerg arriving, that zerg won’t be able to get close to the tower. They’ll probably need to build catapults way out in the swamp. How often are people inside the tower, on the defensive siege and prepared for an attack though, realistically? Very rarely.

Realistically, every tower. With 6+ ACs, not 3.
It wasnt really an answer to the question though. What is “vastly superior numbers”? When should be we be allowed to take an objective?
Walls, doors, defensive siege… It’s there to delay one simple and inevitable fact – defense against a large enough force that is determined to take the objective is impossible. But that also lead to the other side of the coin – defense against an equal force is very possible. Which is the point of WvW. PvP. Objectives are a means to that end. They are the foundation. Glorifying them or making them too strong as to “move somewhere else” just because they are defended is not a good thing.

Same goes for there being no safe place on walls to place ACs, its pretty stupid imo, a defended tower should not be able to have its defences taken out so easily. If people are defending, unless you have vastly superior numbers, you should have to move somewhere else.
With well placed superior ACs how exactly is this not current WvW?
Sometimes I wonder if people WvW the same WvW I do… Going close up against a defended tower with 2+ ACs you cant hit is impossible without the 10+ people required to build enough siege fast. Going up against a fortified keep with full supplies? Hahaha… 20+ people at least and you better hope there is near zero defense because the slightest effort and you will fail. In both cases you can completely ignore people on walls anyway and do a ranged assualt, but again that require a ton of people because you need to build sheild generators to block the inevitable counter siege. Taking on a fortified keep with trebs and sheild gens require like 40+ people unless you want to be there the entire day.
So uhm… what is “vastly superior numbers”? What is your requirement on the relative strength of defenders and attackers to be allowed to take a tower or keep? I’d really like to know. Because I sure cant keep people off walls when trying to attack a tower with 5 people. They disable the siege and then they AC the cata/ram to death. Or a single ele just meteor storm it. And if that single ele fails and was stupid enough to die to AoE… didnt we outnumber him 5:1?

Only having the event run on a single borderlands opposed to multiple may help with both of these issues

If the event run on a single border, it’ll lag and break that border. WvW is instanced. Just because people are fighting in EB, it doesnt mean that people lag out on home border or in Lions Arch.
Fact is, the event sucked. It heavily favored coverage and zerging while forcing people to jump around borders on set times instead of playing as they wish. Bloodlust aint ideal, but it’s far better than oasis – at least bloodlust encourage you to spread in small groups and do the activity while the zerg was fighting elsewhere. Oasis just stopped an entire border because the boon you got from it was insane. If it only took down a single door to like 50% I wouldnt have argued, but all of them? Ugh… Just ugh. Never again please.
I would prefer another tower or something in the center. Hell they might even fix the map if they place it so it can hit both southern towers and at least outer east/west keep.

Linking was a nice idea but currently the “population balance” that is happening on DH results in being outnumbered 10v1. This isn’t fun, it’s not competitive. It really serves no purpose and is a terrible experience.

- remove the heals from water spells but add effect zones. If people wants heals they’ll have to burn some finishers in there. Have the players work as a team to get access to these team heals. Give clever ways to the elem to heal while fighting.
Fantastic, you want to add identity to elementalist yet you would absolutely kitten over the one build that can designate itself group healer in WvW by putting all the load on comboing rather than the massive AoE healing the elementalist can build himself in the water tree. When its 50 people, they arent going to “work as a team” as if its a 5 man tightknit party. AoE is king.

Does the 30 have the advantage? Well yeah. Of course. They are kittening 30 people and could easily attack from 2 or 3 directions, leaving those 5 spread thin. Especially if there is no deployed siege and the supply has been drained. IRL the besiegers have the advantage of numbers every kittening time, cause thats how you siege things. They will breach it sooner or later. Thats how a siege works ingame as well.
If you are arguing its 30 vs 30 where defenders have kittenty walls that dont help them, well gtfo on the open field and fight. Attacking a sieging force in the rear wins 90% of the time, because theres a kittening wall blocking their escape.

Which isnt really so bad. As I’ve said before if DBL is popular, great! Its never going to be a real WvW map with towers that far from keeps but it work decently with lots of players. If the map is completely deserted and people dont even go to defend, well then thats great too! Because it means that the border population will be concentrated to two instead of three, which means more action and more fun. The pressure to defend hbl will just shift to more pressure on enemy borders. The offset will always be that DBL will be so easy to backcap for its home border occupants if zergs come and go instead of staying.
The only people that get tired will be those actively seeing DBL as a real border while the majority of their server dont, cause they aint going to get EB or guild support when defending it. So my advice would be to go with the flow. Dont try too hard. Thats what borderers (well what do we call them lol) vs EBers did with 3 DBL and it was just toxic on a daily basis.
I hope someone with API skills start logging weekly border activity after mixed borders is added. It would be very interesting to see kills/deaths in comparison. Whether it truly is doom and and gloom for desert.

I really really despise wvw videos about warriors or guardians. They do not promote smart play there is nothing you can learn from there.
I so love wvw videos from thieves or mesmers because they show you how to actually play wvw.
Running around with an invincible build is not fun. When that warrior guy met 5 enemies at least he must to have some fight intead just “evade” and go on. After that i stopped and never look back.
Of course they promote smart play. Smart play on the side of the opposition. Thats why the group that was fought with in the OP is… less than stellar.
If you cant at the very least 2v1 such a warrior (each should be able to snag 50% hp by blowing cds) then just smile and wave while walking away… smile and wave. You never ever chase (lol) or bunch up in his melee cleaves (double lol).
OKay I changed my mind a bit.
OMEGA GOLEMN RUSHES WHEN OUTNUMBERED.
HOly hell this is insanely powerful. 6 Omega in a zerg will melt a fortified keep…..and make repairing the inner gate downright impossible. We got rushed by YB with this on ebg last night. It was insane…i could not dump any supply on the inner gate without dying. Golemns are insanely high hp pools. If you can’t wipe the enemy on the ground, you honestly can’t defend against this kind of a rush. Keep siege does not do anywhere near enough damage against golemns or zergs to inhibit them. GOlemns bubbles are impenetrable even while using an unblockable.
The kicker here? Once they got the keep…..they just repaired the golemns with all the supply we had left in it (honestly all 500 supply was there for them to take probably). in other words…..nothing we did defending and any damage we did to the omega has 0 effect.
TL;DR: ONCE OMEGA GOLEMNS ARE BUILT. And used by a zerg too large to fight in open combat……the whole map is basically yours. The healing meta now applies to siege and the state they start the ktrain in…will be the state they end the ktrain in. That is insane….i can only imagine an army of omega golemns ALWAYS on standby (always being repaired and refreshed) ready for zerg usage. No effort required…lol its hilarious. You blob with the golemns……and u just blob against the gates and blob against the lord. No amount of defensive siege is gonnna stop this kind of tactic. And yes….we would have been able to defend against them if they hadn’t been using golemns. With golemns tho….its impossible to disable and build effective defensive siege….and its even impossible to attack their tail since the golemns have shield bubbles and heals going off all the time. Very very very effective k-train strategy, and siege hammers make it pretty much unstoppable. I was amazed how fast a fortified keep’s walls and gates melted to this kind of tactic. When we spotted them planting rams and committing to the inner gate and we went to grab supply to heal the gate it was already 75%, By the time I heal and grab more supply and come back…its 50%…..then there is so much aoe and damage on the gate that repairing is gonna get me killed. And disablers are too ineffective against golemns to be used. disabling the rams delays the inevitable….there is no way to take out the rams with so much golemn and ele/necro aoe on the walls clearing every possible a/c and siege weapon. And any siege we get up….is of course worthless. It takes at least 3 superior ac firing nonstop on those rams to make any kind of impact on their offense. And at least 75% of prebuilt siege is gonna be taken down in the first 1-2 minutes of attack. Our own repair hammers cannot keep up with enemy aoe damage while incombat.
But having this permanently would be great news for scrappers too, finally a required place for them. 2-3 of them and you not only got omega rushes with invincible omegas, you got invincible omegas running faster than the zerg
Not sure what you mean with weapon variety. You can use any stat with any weapon. If its a kittenty one celestial isnt going to help.
Otherwise, yes. Celestial is viable for everyone. Do you need the timegated armor and weapons? Hahahahaha… no. Get cheap and quick celestial trinkets then slap whatever you want on top. Rabid + celestial, marauder + celestial, etc etc and so on.

Had a guy in WvW today laughing because we couldn’t beat him 1v1, one of us is Ranger (guess who), one was Guard.. he couldn’t beat the necro though.
So you where a ranger and a guard that had the chance to 2v1 vs an ele but neither could beat him 1v1 until the the necro did.

This is already in the game. You can lock the squad. That it show on the map for everyone instead of just guild irrelevant – any idiot can follow a guild whether they show tag or not.
Unless you are suggesting a guild only tag that insta-kill all server members within 2400 radius unless they are part of the guild.

In my current matchup my server is green and has the highest population for most of the day, with the red server having the lowest pop. We have sieged to the fullest t3 smc for most of the day. So you think the low pop server should not attack a tower because its impossible for them to take t3 smc from our map blob? The poor smucks try to sneak attack Wildcreek and have no chance whatsoever because, even if we dont have watchtower or scouts, some random person is going to go by on their way to our stupidly op smc and notice them. Then they get whacked from all sides by multiple mortars etc and can’t even somewhat safely retreat because of smc. Fun for my dominating server i’m sure, but what about them? Should they just sit in spawn because they cant compete with numbers?
Are you implying that this single wall on a single tower would make any difference in the outmanned scenario described compared to before? That sneak attacking WC from the dredge was the sole reason red came out of their spawn for 4 years?
Well even if you do, glhf on such a broken EB. We that play on borders get DBL instead.

That’s the problem… I really cannot think in somenthing to help lower tiers that isn’t going to promote flocking to a single world in order to receive easy rewards. And as long there are no incantive to play in the lower tiers, people won’t.
The question is why should people flock to low tier? My server is currently T2. Normal days we queue EB and maybe one border if we get lucky. I doubt any other kitten is in that much better shape. What do you think happens when people move? It create a new player on low tiers while somehow still having the player on high tier?!
Its not linking thats failed. Its tiers and their inevitable psychological link to “high = good” and “low = bad”. Get rid of tiers and you have what will help lower tiers.
The reason skills dont fire is because the server skill queue get clogged with too many requests. So stop using any skill other than 1111111111111. Simple.
There was a time when Obsidian Sanctum was only available from a portal inside the EB border keeps.

So uuuuh… What do you need the gold for? What on earth are you using it for? PvE have minor expenses, sPvP got none. The only thing that can cost alot in GW2 is WvW.
If you are working for legendary or a full set of ascended armor, let me tell you a secret: its worthless. I have several legendaries and too much ascended kitten to count and I’d sell it all if I could.
I play WvW for like 1-3 hours every day. PvE maybe 2h a week, more when I do world exploration (comes and goes in burst every other month). I dont farm, I dont do dungeons, I dont do fractals, I havent even PvE raided once… Still I dont need any money. I got thousands of gold.
I get that some people love PvE. Thats fine. But going into it just for the farm and daily gold income statistics is going to be exhausting. Enjoy the journey instead. Maybe you’ll even find a precursor on the way.

Eh what? All classes already have easy 25% and on top of that with sligthly more effort all classes has perma 33%. Superspeed is meant to be a fast in-combat boost, not something that “help explorers”. Thats why it dont stack. Its meant to be skill based, you are supposed to time when you trigger it in order to not waste it. Thats why it shouldnt stack. And thats also why other braindead stacking boons shouldnt stack either.
PvE, sPvP or WvW is irrelevant in this regard.

The question is why gameplay breaking boons in WvW such as quickness and resistance still hasnt been done exactly like superspeed.

What I dislike is fighting against that certain type of roamer that will happily and confidently go 1v1, yet at the first sign of loosing he is off like a rat on fire, presumably to save his 25 stacks or something. Or even worse, those that do the same in a small skirmish and abandons their mates.
Respect for those that stand and fight to the death even when their class/build could have let them escape.

There is already a highlight around your own tile in the squad panel.
When squads where added, the first thing we did in the WvW forum (the only game mode where squads and their organisation really shine) was complain about the poor visibility of yourself in the squad and the equally poor visibility lf your party members compared to the rest of the squad.
We even got Anet dev responses on it and had illustrative screenshots on how it could be done.
So yeah… Saying there is an almost invisible highlight mean very little. Its still bad.

Since the demise of Zaithan, the mightiest amongst his forces might have gained self control. These beings might have been good people in their life and in their unlife, they might be willing to fight for the living.
And their elite specs could involve heavy use of riffles.
There is literally no rotation or counter vs a good chrono perplexity. All you got is either the dumb luck of dodging their bomb (which isnt so much a counter as something you must do and hope for the best) or the luck of them being kitten at dueling.
Personally I find that the only good defense is an even better offense. I run p/p scrapper and my usual tactic to beat mesmers is hitting hard and fast by running straight for them, bulwark to upset their initial strike, poison and lightning to the face then stealth when they stealth and blowtorch to the kitten when they reappear. If you are lucky purge gyro will have done its job at cleansing confusion/torment and if you are even luckier then a blast gyro at point blank range will make victory almost certain (assuming it doesnt path 20m away and start dancing with a flagpole or something).
Problem is, the cheezier ones will run dire, can take your attacks easy and blink away to reset, while you just blew all your cooldowns and will be a sitting duck.
But maybe I am just too impatient.
They kind of already have mounts, I think 2-3. Those weird items you can use to change your run animation.
Everything that change your characters appearance could theoretically be classified as a “mount” and theres a whole lot more than 2-3. Whether you look like a golem or say a quaggan is irrelevant.
