Look at the screen shots on top post on the last page (3) of the Boonshares will break WvW thread…
( oh and as soon as it runs out you just share it again , as long as you have enough mesmers per the right amount of people, you can keep it stacked forever. You can run as many pins/ mesmers as you want to maximize it to ensure every member of a zerg gets shares…

After looking at that screen, what were you saying about quickness? That screen shot was from a boonshare ZERG ..

The person had less than 10 hours of gameplay so I couldnt ask that person to play PvP with me because a new player cannot get involved in PvP.

There is little to no requirements to GW2 sPvP.

This is a logical as saying well my friend bought Overwatch but since he is a new player he cannot get involved in PvP.

15 vs 40 was possible once because it was 15 people with secret raid builds and a hardcore commander vs 40 people on random PvE builds following a commander that had no idea what he was doing. The game has matured beyond that now. Today you might have the same 15 man setup, but those 40 people will probably consist of veteran GWEN raiders on a very experienced commander. 15 vs 40 all things equal should not be possible.

Funny thing though, it still sort of is. Just not open field with a wipe.

But you can never have the first thing back.

It should be based more on class/ build/ party knowledge and ability to play those classes well, where you have numerous options, not just one or two OP builds. To be able to read the battlefield , what your squad and the enemy squad is doing and make the appropriate adjustments and perfect your timing to be able to break them. Where you have numerous methods , build options, and party comps to counter and be effective.

You have numerous options. We have 5 or so OP builds and good commanders with very trained and experienced players that know how to move and break the opponent. That’s exactly why 40 vs 15 is roflstompage assuming equal skills. The ones with 40 will have more. You can complain about the zerg all you want but it doesnt necessarily make the zergers morons. No amount of skill will make up for being heavily outnumbered, no matter how much you believe zergers are dumb headless chickens that dont know where the pointy end of the sword goes.

If this was a 40 man hardcore top tier GvG guild vs a 15 man equally hardcore top tier GvG guild would we even be having a discussion on who should (and most likely will) win in a fight, lol?

If we talk about 3 vs 5, 15 vs 20, 25 vs 35, 40 vs 50 etc we get into a whole other argument. And incidently, I think we have the better underdog winning outnumbered fights every day, every hour. Not so often 15 vs 40. Because thats insane.

New players are competetive in terms of gear with a week, two at most. I fail to see the point as most probably doesnt even know WvW exist yet by then.

If you want newly leveled to get into WvW, Anet need way more advertisment for the endgame – which by all intents and purposes will seem like doing 15 stupid PvE dailies at the moment.

As for p/p, that’s just personal preference. I find the shield skills way to clunky for my taste, and I can’t bring myself to give up blowtorch.

P/P isnt really personal preference though, its what make condi engie viable.

But hey there is one certain way you can get them: get a search warrant issued by a court.

What was it a bandaid of? Having the crafters in WvW was stupid to begin with. There is absolutely no need to ever craft anything in WvW. The NPCs took up space and bandwidth and so did any useless player using them. It doesnt “solve” anything on a larger scale.

There are plenty of other things still stupid in the game. AC fire rate. Trapper runes. Perplexity runes. Mist form going through door. Many things more. None of them would solve the larger issues. That doesnt make them any less stupid however.

As I told you, it’s all controlled by the true overlords… Have you ever wondered why the only way to enter WvW is through Asuran portals?

It’s because it’s a construct. If the skybox illusion dampening field would ever fail, what you’d see is a thousand Asurans sitting there along the gigantic colosseum style arena seats munching popcorn, laughing, drinking beer and betting on who dies. The Arcane Council have special seats with buttons on them to control the lag. They sometimes use that for extra entertainment.

By far the most dangerous power builds I meet 1v1 are warriors. For dpsers like thieves, rangers or elementalists* they become increasingly squishy the more damage they have (or start hitting like wet noodles the more tanky they are). The skilled warriors that can combine heavy melee damage with kitten near immortality due to hp regen often wins. Cant knock em down, cant apply much condi pressure, cant do kitten.

*elementalists can seem tanky but most run the one-trick pony lightning build, if one avoid that and get good burns going they fall like rotten timber.

Asurans are clever enough to know that true rulers work from the shadows and place the dumb muscles in seats of power.

Hence, Charr gets the keeps because they think they own them, Humans get the towers because they realized it was better to make a deal on the middleground than to challenge the true overlords (and previously mentioned Charr muscle) and Sylvari gets the camps because they’re kittening sallad.

I run p/p rabid+celestial, firearms/inventions with balthazar or firearms/alchemy with traveler runes. All gyros except elixir gun.

I still havent quite decided what the “best” variant is but I can say that its a very, very strong roamer and a key component in smallscale havoc.

I have tried the hammer but I leave that to people good at melee. In my experience, its strong but easily kited. The more outnumbered you are vs good players the worse it gets. P/p isnt technically better but its nasty burns can relieve the pressure on you for an extended period, allowing you to focus targets.

IMHO GH were the major cause of death to wvw when HOT came out, not the dbl. Guild Halls are very expensive to level (or were) making small guilds useless….

Since they flipped the +5 from top to bottom of the guild hall upgrades, small guilds now only need a level 6 guild for the basics (compared to 37 before or whatever it was). 5 peeps (or probably as low as 2-3 if they are in good PvE classes on good builds and get lucky) can cap a guild hall.

Ascended trinkets are even easier, just buy amulets (maybe rings too) with Laurels, buy accessories with Guild Commendations. Armor boost is minor, you might say armor isn’t even need unless you’re going for Fractals.

Where are you getting so many laurels and Guild Commendations? Both of those are behind the most awful time-gates in the game.

Awfull? Guild commendations drop like candy in WvW, lol. We just play like normal and launch all the missions until they are done. Well, except the stupid dolly escort, that one you actually have to work for

Once Desert Borderlands come back, I expect the number of players drop on the borderlands and EBG queues once again go high, unless Arenanet brings in some other major changes e.g. better rewards.

I wish Arenanet would show us metrics, how many players on each server and each map as each tick. This would give us a lot of food for thought!

While we wont get how many are there, we will be able to see the border activity through the API. Just check kills/deaths on the 2 alpine borders compared to the desert border. Simple.

Not across 3 borders, that is irrelevant. I am talking about when you Hop to any borders.

It’s as simple as that. That’s what people do with certain alpines daily – home probably get 90% of the borderhopping while enemy borders get quick jabs that are either recapped soon after or defended successfully (because previously mentioned defensive borderhopping).

Desert itself is irrevelant. Coverage will be what still matters the most. And in that coverage, there are a number of players that will be on desert. The more coverage you have… the more players will be there. Loss of coverage on one map – like 10 out of 35 jumping with you to desert – means a gain in coverage on another map. In this case, wherever people remain.

You are seriously overthinking a type of asynchronous map design that we already know is in effect 24/7 in current WvW and has been for 4 years. It’s called EB. The only difference is that instead of putting people off, it attract them like mosquitos to an electric bug zapper.

Has EB killed WvW yet?

The issue is the sheer number of players who refuse to go on it at all.

Across 3 borders, yes. That was the issue. Mixed borderlands is just 1 border. There will be people there. Will it be as many as on alpine? Probably not. Will it matter? Most definetly not. People that love desert get every desert lover focused on 1 map -> a more populated border. People that refuse to go to desert (and probably would have stopped playing if rotation won) get focused on 2 maps instead of 3 -> more populated borders.

Either way you swing it, everybody win.

It doesn’t give the home server an advantage if no one on that server will go there. It ONLY gives the server who has the most players who will play on it the advantage regardless of whose home BL it is.

EoTM would be… problematic… to convert to WvW since it has no real dolly routes (or camps for that matter) and there is a heavy focus on capping the border keeps, which in a PPT enviroment will probably mean indefinate spawncamping after the fact.

Personally I would still have seen 3 versions of alpine sharing the same basic design:
- Alpine, current map with updated visuals.
- Desert, like alpine but with desert statics and tweaked keeps (ie current designs, if somewhat smaller to fit Alpine).
- Jungle, with new statics from HoT and giant trees.

This is absolutely terrible and it is even more terrible that players choose to vote in this plague or cholera poll. It will be a flat out punishment to be the server that gets DBL, which in the end most likely will influence the outcome of the MU.
Might not be a big thing in NA, but in EU were the top tiers are constantly changing, it will hit like a truck. The server with DBL will have so many disadvantages and the rest of us will pile up on ABL maps.

I can not even imagine how this pull came about or how it can be thought of as a good pull. But ok lets go through this again and watch the server with DBL rage for not having players or waypoints or any sort of tactic. It will be fun time to watch the rage flow in this forum again. sarcasm if anyone missed that

And yet the most common argument against mixed has been that no one plays on dbl, thus giving the server having it as home uncontested PPT and a major advantage as they can focus fully on enemy borders (since home is the “default” border after EB when joining WvW, that server often owns the most of it when people loiter there).

…Everyone hated DBLs.. The only time you would see a zerg there was reset night…
I was in T2 for whole time while DBL was here, no one cared about anything except ramparts. My old guild leader loved running in that map a lot so I joined him every now and then.. and I can tell ya it was empty 99% of the time… 1% had a ktrain going. zero fights outside of reset night.

Keep in mind that we only saw the revamped border/stab for about 2 weeks before it flipped to alpine. I played on desert nearly every day since HoT (and yes I still think it has several core flaws) and saw actvity increase by like 500% on my server. Alpine is of course even more active, but still. There where people on the borders. There will be people on that 1 desert too.

And as OP said, when we get the 2 ABL and 1 DBL thing are going be even more unbalanced…. the team that gets to be on the side with the DBL home BL will always win because no one will ever bother going into the DBLs to flip anything.

Flawed argument.

If everybody hate dbl, no one will play there. But someone has to or it couldnt get capped to be with. But even if we assume that a server has 100% of dbl at some point, your reasoning must apply to all sides of a matchup or it’s not true. That includes the server that has dbl as home. Which means it will be so easy for few people to swoop in and cap half the border before anyone even bother defending.

You are painting a very simplistic binary scenario that wont hold up in practice.

Even if it does, then so what? It’s just a border. No one care about borders. Everyone and their grandma is on EB anyway. Just like how it’s been since GW2 release.

See, here’s the difference between you and me. When you see 16 confusion and 12 torment on you at the same time, you get mad at the player who put them there.

When I see 16 confusion and 12 torment on me at the same time, I consider the mistakes I made to end up in that position. Then, I do my best to fix them. In this way, I improve. By doing this multiple times, you eventually reach a level of skill where you avoid that 16 confusion and 12 torment, and then you beat the other person.

Whining about the other person gets you nowhere. They’ll keep winning, you’ll keep ending up face down in the dirt. For a refreshing change, try learning from your mistakes and getting better.

Yes I get mad at them. Because there is no reason not to get mad. It’s a ridiculous rune on a ridiculous build that make ít a ridicilously OP class to face in a 1v1 scenario. It’s as undefendable as perma-stealth trapper theives. It’s just stupid. We already know condi is silly strong when roaming and chrono perplexity lifts that through the roof and into space.

Do I care outside of that though? No. Not even if I get killed by one. Because WvW isnt supposed to be balanced for 1v1. When I face them again I defeat them because I bring friends. I bet they get mad and cry "kitten y u no duel instead of zerging 3v1?!?! when they kitten well know how kittening OP their build is in 1v1. That thought always give me a little comfort. Either way you roll it, you play to win.

ppl who are interested in balancing are always the minority, in every single game.

Luckily this vote has absolutely nothing to do with balance as the way a border look is irrelevant. We know this because 3 alpines and 1 EB are not in any way balanced. We see that every single day.

So yeah, maybe people interested in balancing are in minority.

And a minority of players also dont give a kitten what happens to the community after desert is rotated in for 3 months.

Seems pretty balanced to me.

A-net clearly designs the polls in favor of “their” option – some polls have the 75% burden, some not. Hear your players A-net, don’t be like a crazy dictator.

Except the irony of that would be that its a contradiction. Anet has already said they are in favor of mixed borders. They where “disappointed” when the first poll lost with a mere 70% in favor. Unless everyone but the guy putting text on the poll options is in favor.

In that case Anet, you got an kitten working for you.

Because really, why couldnt it had been the other way around? That rotating borders require 75% and if it fails, mixed will be implemented. Anet never kittening rotated them before when tormenting us with 6 months of desert and a wrecked community. Why is that suddenly the “default” way forward?

My opinion first glance is that as most of the people dont like DBL and people who like DBL dont mind alpine bl (because i havent seen them complain here that they only spend time in EB) is that having 3 alpine would be superior option.

But as already before HoT people were complaining that just having alpine is boring and were hyped about new map, I dont think its an option.

So the only viable options I see:
Better option) have 3 different bls, 1 for every server
good sides: Lot of Variety, More activity, Data can be used to Balance EB (as green side is clearly strongest)
bad sides: Unbalanced home bls, server with “best” map will get focused most

Criers Option) Have 3-4 diff kind of bls that swap weekly
good sides: Variety, activity, balanced
bad sides: Dead weeks (which might be good, servers will find more enemies on active weeks), EB will still be unbalanced, reset issues

I do not see 3 months or even 1 month of hated DBL being good, it’s that long of a period that the gamemode will die.

Well unfortunetly there are no fantasy options and I would hope no one pick rotating borders based on wishfull thinking. Because thats why we are in this ridiculous mess to begin with. People chose to save desert because maybe it would be implemented just like they imagined instead of just saying no.

I way prefer that everyone gets the same map.

There is obviously going to be a favourite map that everyone wants to play on.

Whether the favourite ends up being the old or new BL, there will definitely be a favourite.

So one or two servers are going to get favouritism because they will get less people wanting to play on their BL.

It should be kept fair where every server has the same BL.

Fairness trumps choice IMO.

Oh you mean EB? That other odd map different among a multitude of others?

Cause it’s going to be EB.

1. The borderlands are inherently different from one another.

One will always be easier to defend than the other. It doesn’t matter which one is easier, but it is generally agreed that these maps were NOT created equal. Whichever side gets the odd borderland out will have either a comparatively easier or harder time holding their own borderland. If you’re set up for failure, your server will have reduced turn out that week. You can play the hero and say that won’t affect you, but you aren’t your server or your militia. Remember how lower scoring does affect herd mentality to not show up.

Broken reasoning. Unbalanced alpine borders are in effect all the time. See that enemy border that is 100% held by a single enemy server? That’s because your server has no presence there. While you have most of your own home border due to heavy presence. Unbalanced. 1 desert map would change nothing. I fail to see this argument as legitimate.

2. When a previous poll was released, Anet admitted that a 2/1 split would inherently be imbalanced, and people still voted for it. Why are we wanting to introduce unbalanced content when Anet can barely balance population?

World Versus World is a tricky game-mode to balance, especially when it comes to population, terrain changes, and basic point changes. Introducing even more issues into this pool of mess seems self-destructive at best, suicidal at worst.

See previous point. WvW is inherently unbalanced. If you argue that 1 desert is unbalanced, then why havent people argued that 1 EB is unbalanced? I fail see this argument as a legitimate.

3. Mathematically Speaking: The “I hate the DBL and want to play it less” argument.

Voting for shared BL:

“DBL is harder to keep”: You get to play Alpine as much as you want and you suffer 33% (1/3 of BLS available) of the time when you get DBL as home BL. Your server suffers 33% of the time.

“DBL is easier to keep”: You suffer 33% of the time when you get DBL as home BL. Your server suffers 66% of the time.

Voting against shared BL:

Whether DBL/ABL is easier to keep is a non-issue.

You suffer 50% of the time. Your server does not suffer.

So if you hate DBL with such a burning passion that you would set the house on fire to keep yourself warm, I ask you to take a step back and think about what you actually want. An unbalanced game mode that routinely puts sides at an absurd disadvantage damaging the odd-server out and making the game-mode less fun to play for a week, or a balanced one that might slightly inconvenience you.

This is just random percentage nonsense! Again, WvW is inherently unbalanced. We got 3 borders and 1 EB – that’s totally unbalanced and we see it every single day with a heavy EB population and empty borders. There are people that hate EB and there are people that totally swear off borders and stay on EB all the time. Having 2+1 borders and 1 EB change nothing. I fail to see this argument as legitimate.

At the end of the day it’s a self-balanced system. If few people are there, few people can cap easily. If many people are there, it attract even more people. Just like alpine. Just like EB.

A vote for rotations and the exponential boredom of playing on 3 deserts where a majority of commanders dont want to play, a majority of guilds dont want to play and pug participation would be at an all time low is a vote to destroy the community because all it will create is a toxic enviroment where the majority is unhappy. If you vote in favor of that then GG. You’re an kitten .

Is the general consensus among mesmers that playing condi mesmer in WvW havok groups is something to be ashamed of?

That depends on whether you have any shame or not.

What I can say is if I see 16 confusion stacks and 12 torment stacks on me at the same time then I dont think ermagerd, that chrono is so awesome at applying condis, I wish I had these amazing fighting skillz. No, its usually a little more to the point.

As has been explained multiple times, the devs have already said that the “no vote” entries are going to be discarded in the final count. The arithmetic is very simple. Out of the actual votes, simultaneous currently has a 78.6% share.

Dont trust the devs with math though. The poll is missing 0.1%.

I’m not sure ArenaNet is purposely not fixing the bug. Perhaps, they have not yet determined what causes the bug for some, and thus, find it difficult to fix.

Eh? The cause is simple enough – they kittened up the lighting on that map square and probably need to bake it again. If you look at the house and where it’s fine vs bright as all kitten, you will notice that the brightness is a perfect square (zero rotation compared to overhead map). It’s being lit by a single lightpoint probably at the eastern edge at waterlevel, rather than just the global map lighting. It’s probably adding it’s value to the global map light, that’s why there are no shadows. That’s also why the walls looking east is comparably fine.

They have done minor bugfixes. They already did the major changes. I seriously doubt we will see another iteration that actually fixes the core issues, no matter how much the yes to desert peeps kept imagining the glorious possibilities.

How is gw2 a competetive mmo? If I check the PvP Finals on gw2 twitch, I see always less then 400 viewers. Arenanet failed with making it esports. I thought people would knew by now. Its more of a casual mmo were pve gets the most updates. (and gemstore ofc)

Viewers and “esport” have nothing to do with it. CS:GO could have had 0 viewers and few players, would you still have approved of glowing skins when playing it?

So it doesnt effect the gameplay or view of others.

It does affect the gameplay if it gives you an unfair advantage.

This is not Skyrim, Fallout 4 or Total War, whatever where mods are appreciated and can create entire new games. We play WvW to win weekly matchups. To win over other players in fights. That makes it competetive.

If you had suggested this for PvE only I wouldnt give a kitten. Sure you will say “but I only use this to make the game pretty!”. And people with MMO cheat engines only use it to get out of being stuck in the terrain. Because of course.

No, because that would be stupid in a competetive MMO with PvP. Custom texture packs means you can be certain that the first thing to come out is bright glowing player skins and alpha textured walls.

Also its not textures thats the “problem”. The textures are fine. Its the models and finer map detail which has been far surpassed on the newer generation of maps (even on the “old” EoTM compared to EB and alpine).

lol people can’t seem to understand that simultaneous is going down because the other one is going up, while the show me result doesn’t change, meaning that even after getting rid of the 4.x% of the show me results to remake a 100% based on the first two answers, the simultaneous still is going down.

The only reason simultaneous is going down at such a constant rate is because the vote is rigged, used as a smokescreen.

Well you dont need to look at it anyway. As long as rotating is below 25%, simultaneous has guaranteed victory. Its when that goes above 25% it becomes iffy and depend on the amount of non-voters.

Its really not so much rigged as it is playing people against each other while having a default condition with an insanely low fail threshold. I mean when was the last time 70% or more of the community – any community really – could agree on anything? Errr… well, ignoring the previous mixed borderlands vote of course. Even then, 2 alpine/1 desert only had 50% of votes if I recall correctly, 1/2 made up the rest.

Ugh… how many days do we have left on this travesty anyway?

There are also practical barriers. Say I like the sound of havoc groups (I do). To try that will I need a set of e.g. rabid gear? If so, that’s on the order of 100g just to try something out. Free level 76 exotic gear, that’s only usable in WvW and disintegrates after 30 hours, would be more like it.

… what? Wtf do you use, armor made of gold? A full set including weapons and sigils/runes is like 20 gold (or 10 days of doing nothing but daily). Ascended trinkets is dirt cheap. And thats not even counting the options for WvW bought gear, which is more like 7 gold + badges.

I realize that Necros have an unfair advantage with shroud, and skills that cool down while in shroud. And I’m sure people have complained about that as well. But so far I have damaged a theif, they stealth, they hit me back hard, I pop shroud, they stealth, heal up, destroy my shroud, and now I’m screwed. That is basically how my fights go in general with all stealth fights, just using thief as a filler.

Yes. That’s what they do. They are built to kill your type of target.

Do you think any other player on a power build have it easier facing such enemies? No. Necros in fact have the biggest advantage in that they can tank in their marks, that’s often why thieves are extra quick around them.

And that’s why most run condi heavy ranged builds when roaming. If quick zerker builds start running from you, they are probably already dead. They will bleed, they will burn and they will die confused.
