I would avoid any link that asks for your account details unless it’s posted by an Anet employee. If you’ve already done so, maybe time to change your password.

Looks like it uses the same https certificate as this forum so I’m guessing it’s legit, but yeah you are correct.

VR Support for GW2

With the introduction of 1st person action mode a looooong time ago, GW2 already “support” VR. Woodenpotatoes has a video running with the Rift. It would be neat to see native support, but its pretty much as good as it’s gonna get already. Every large texture you look really close at (say terrain on an Asura) is gonna look like crap.

People look at Asura players funny when they ask for sexy armor for them because we’re supposed to equate Asura as childlike.

… there’s an analogy here if you think about it.

Comparing children to asura is like comparing a pencil to a lion. They’re not even the same thing. People accidentally equates asura as childlike because they constantly plays human.

That’s like, saying – If I’m Norn player. I would equate human as childlike. Because almost majority of Norn kid NPCs are average human adult height.

:P.

You dont even have to go that far. Compare a human max size char vs a human min size and you get a human the size of a 10 year old… If people dont have issues demanding sexy clothes for them compared to something that’s only sligthly smaller but look like a grumpy old version of Yoda with floppy ears, I see no issues.

The majority of zerg players voted for the zerg…. who would have thunk it?

That’s why true democracies always fail. The majority always votes to enslave the minority.

And if we do it the other way around, we got communism ruled by the elite. So it all equals out.

I am cautious of the changes but what won in the poll is what we have been complaining about for years. So that’s pretty fair.

Desert is designed as a border. We cant have kittening 4 of them. It’s not gonna be another EB unless they do what many of us want them to do – remake the kitten map from scratch because nothing else can fix it’s core problems. But that aint gonna happen and you know it. So no point even suggesting that.

Not quite sure what you seek. In groups of 5-10, Scrapper remain one of the best classes you can bring and it get even better the more outmanned you are (lots of reflects, knockbacks and ranged stomp).

If you just want a class that runs away at the first sign of trouble then you can always go druid gs/staff like everyone else. Or maybe a daredevil. You are still gonna get run over by blobs no matter what you pick.

I just want to say that I miss DBL. ABL looks like Warhammer Diskwars game (photo in attachments) which sucks. Its flat, boring, and there is no adventure, nor the strategy based combat. I think that some of wvw players would be happy if they could just fight against zerg on small, empty square.
By the way anet devs: you are great and I love you guys

Why do you think almost every popular multiplayer combat game is based what is often short and precise matches over a small area?

Alpine could use some paint work to bring it up to par with modern GW2 (all the vanilla maps look bland compared to the later generation), but its actually not that flat. Hell, it even offer more height levels than desert when you look at some details. Where on desert was it common on fight on 3 height levels at a choke? Oasis? HA! Dont make me laugh. The difference is that alpine use it in moderation which most of us love. Desert took it over the top and still managed to do it far worse.

The current plan is to rotate the borderlands maps each quarterly update. That said, now that we are actively polling the community, perhaps we can start exploring other options.

For instance, nothing is really stopping us from having a combination of ABL and DBL maps running simultaneously. 2 of one and 1 of the other. If we polled that, and players approved it, then there’d be no need for the rotation, and players on both sides of the issue could play on their preferred map. The downside of course, would be any perception of imbalance that may arise from one map being considered the stronger “Home” map, but we could always give the more defensible map to Red/Blue and leave the less defensible map to Green.

Tbh that is the only reasonable compromise we got if you have push desert back. 2 alpine, 1 desert.

The problem with a quartely complete replacement is that there are sooooo many that dont like desert that they would become disgruntled and take it out on those that do. Which is exactly what happened with HoT.

Besides, we already know that anything except T1 or primetime reset cant normally queue 3 borders. With 1 desert, we would moderate ourselves down to 1 EB and 2 borders. If weakest server get desert, it wont matter.

So ultimately, yeah. Agreed.

Dawdler.8521

the problem is if you halve the population per map but leave maps the same size, each map will be alot more empty and it will be harder for the groups to find eachother to get fights. lower population density might also encourage k-training

part of what sets wvw apart from other pvp is the large scale fights. that’s the entire reason some people play it. imo that’s part of the reason why ppl didn’t like the DBL’s and other HoT wvw content (like banners), because those things were designed to split up blobs (not to mention that the banners could also be abused by larger groups fighting smaller ones).

Not really a problem, we had the deserted map for like 6 months, right lol.

No, the real problem is that even when full, it will be empty. Why? Because this would literally kill all major WvW guilds running with 20+. They would be bored out of their minds fighting a pug zoneblobs they will totally steamroll or they would only fight a single other guild per side because no one else fit (heaven forbid pugs play on the same map). What would OP do, tell them to go to EB with the inevitable 200 man queue instead? Because thats what would happen, no pug will want to zerg/roam these maps at the prospect of meeting a single guild that’s impossible to beat because even now they can go 25vs50 and win. GG when that become 25vs25. No chance. Gaem ded.

Why would this help? If you double the maps you only double the amount of maps that you’re gonna be outnumbered on when the numbers arent even. Players dont just pop up out of thin air to balance the maps.

If you want to have incentives for less blobbing and spreading out, then you should be looking at the commander system instead. Squads should be able to trade max size for boons. On top of that a more flexible marker system would allow us to more visibly change the purpose of a group instead of just a color. Right know it’s even players that set the standards for blobbing as they are censuring themselves, it’s pretty much taboo to have more than one tag (people even get confused at a blue and a red on the same border ffs). It’s pack mentality at it’s best and Anets 50 man squads is fully behind it.

The top tier servers are “stacking”, but they aren’t stacking themselves. They are stacking their lower tier counter part. Guilds go to the lower ranked server to play with the higher tier server (b/c they can’t go to the higher tier server). This in and of itself could balance populations from top to bottom “IF” ANet somehow locks down transfers (though I don’t see this happening since transfers = $$$). I know many guilds would be pretty upset if they got locked into a lower tier server and then had to play on a lower tier match up (that, say, maybe didn’t get as well stacked on other servers).

With the model they’ve chosen they need to redo linkages often and they need to increase the cost of transfers so the bandwagoners can’t just jump from ET to BG’s next partner when it changes for 100 gold which can be earned easily.

100g, 200g, it doesnt matter. As long as people can do it, they will. And when GW2 WvW become a race to not play WvW and instead farm gold in PvE for the next transfer, it will become a kittenty game.

Upgrades take forever to get going. It takes 60 Yak trips to upgrade a tower’s walls. That pretty much never happens for towers during prime time

IMHO upgrades should take forever during a prime/peak time. It means there is activity on the map. It means if you want that sucker to upgrade, you have to be skilled enough to do it. Most upgrades in this game occur during periods of low activity. It’s kind of dumb only because paper towers and keeps usually ends up in more fights, just how players fight over a paper SMC more than they do a T3 SMC.

Which is why I am actually in favor of faster but weaker upgrades. With faster upgrades we would avoid keeps seemingly being at a standstill in prime (either T3 and no one want/can touch it or paper and flipping every 15m) and with weaker upgrades (like, every wall upgrade adds just 20% to hp or similar with no siege damage reduction) it would still mean more active defenses are required. Faster and weaker would also shift more PPT to upgrading structures when that is implemented.

Slow as sloth and stronk upgrades just isnt fun IMO. Makes structures too static.

Ok, can someone explain to me WHY gliding is such a bad idea. What is it that others do not like about gliding? Pre-HoT everyone was hyped on gliding.

Yeah, hyped about PvE gliding. Not WvW.

It’s actually quite simple. It’s a rule that all of WvW would have to follow in terms of keep, tower and terrain design, every little square meter of the maps have to take into account gliding. A rule that Alpine, Desert, EB and EoTM does not follow in the slightest today. For PvE maps it didnt matter – getting somewhere you arent supposed to is irrelevant. In WvW, it’s absolutely critical for it to be playable. It doesnt matter how many AA cannons or new siege you add (something we pretty much universally dont want as WvWer want more player fights instead), it would still be wide open to exploit. Something as simple as a player being able to bypass a bridge guarded by an enemy player by gliding from a cliff nearby render that entire concept of two players meeting in a choke obsolete.

Basicly, if gliding is to be a part of WvW, we need entirerly new maps designed for it. All of them. And that isnt just a “suggestion for desert”. That is an entire new game. If Anet want to do that then sure, it might be great.

Se,sw towers

Put them closer together like in alpine borders, reduce east-west distance overall. Otherwise theyre fine

And right about there you basicly said “delete everything and start from scratch”.

Moving entire structures requires reshaping the entire map. In your case, you could move them closer together true. But it wouldnt be anywhere near alpine, because moving them together would mean that you increase the distance to hills and bay – which is the complete opposite of what really need to happen for it to become more like alpine (ie keeps and towers can siege and threaten each other to keep the pressure high). Wanna move hills and bay to keep up with the towers being closer? Oh boy… Wanna fold the center in itself to create a map rectangular like alpine? Well that kitten up garri completely. Either way you twist and turn this you cant make it work without remaking the entire map.

I find it amusing that people say l2p when it comes to confusion/torment.

It is really, really simple. It is a matter of quantity and that’s why it OP. A single PU mesmer can reach 15-18 stacks of confusion and the only defense against that is condicleanse in less than one second or you are already dead. That’s not l2p, that’s pure luck. Similar reason why 8K burn ticks are OP or 25 might stacks for zerker builds get them insane damage. Put two of these together in a duo and well… you will die. Simple as that.

Understanding the “Fantasy Degrees” is actually pretty simple. On a scale of 0-10, with 0 being “Coldest day of winter in your life” and 10 being “Hottest day of summer in your life” (If you live in a temperate area, or are moderately well-traveled), just multiply by 10 and it’ll give you a pretty rough estimate of the current temperature (With ‘room temperature’ being an average of 7, not 5. Oh yeah – and your body’s internal temperature is a 10. Water freezes at 3, and your fridge is a 4). American units of measurement only become weird when you try to precisely define them, because they’re based on rough estimates of natural measurements.

Wait, wait… What happens when you start to comparing different baselines, like races with different body temperatures? Or the fact that water freeze at different temperatures depending on atmospheric pressure? And what happens when the hottest day of your life is followed by an even hotter day?

This is more complicated than quantum physics. It would make an Asura proud.

How does WvW FPS Work??

in WvW

Dawdler.8521

Well known fact, unless you are running on a toaster the only thing that will affect fps in WvW in any way is character model limit (ie how many fully outfitted characters you see compared to default). Even with this fact, the game can easily slow to a crawl. Just today I had an example when we where taking SW camp on Alpine with maybe 8v8 players. We got them downed, then fps took a noticable hit all of a sudden. The reason? Well a 30 man zerg just entered the archway. I wasnt even looking in their direction.

It’s also the reason why we essentially have wallhacking in WvW, lol. You can feel when a zerg is about to rush you from behind a door/wall/cover.

I can’t express how awful ideas like a forced primetime and a 3x scoring day are.

There is no such thing as a “forced primetime and daytime” multiplier. Stop making things up and read what it actually says instead.

The activity multiplier would scale on population and activity. If all three servers can gather 800+ players at 03:00 in the night then congrats, you just got high activity and thus a high multiplier. The time is irrelevant. Daytime is irrelevant. Primetime is irrelevant. Whether daytime or primetime naturally has more players on and thus higher activity is a whole other matter. Nightcappers always argue that boho it’s not their fault they play at night. Well its not primetime players fault you have low activity and population by the very definition of what nightcapping is either.

Run across a group, I simply stealth out, and get out of Dodge. Don’t run crono. Tried it, does not fit my play style, and wells seemed pointless. Seems like lots are relying on condition builds. I have plenty of condition removal.

Dawdler.8521

? I’ve seen no evidence that the DBls are easier to defend. Different for sure, in lots of ways. But easier to secure?

It was waaaaaay easier to secure in the sense that enemies didnt want to play there any more than you and defending the keeps was simpler if you prefered siege over fights. All that mattered on DBL was siege, siege and even more siege. The high walls made it impossible to attack up there and all towers/keeps where designed to hold the high ground on inner with impossible to hit siege (bay being the most obvious example).

And that is why I find the claim that DBL was better for “fighting” while Alpine is “karma training” hilarious. Simpler towers and keeps means that it brings the players to the foreground, rather than the defensive design of the structures. Fighting, not sieging. Sure you can still siege hump like crazy but it has always seemed just plain more fun meeting that on alpine.

The only thing DBL IMO truly did better was lords and the way that that doors where designed (the extending walls). One might argue visuals as well and yeah DBL was definetly prettier, but ultimately that’s just eye candy. It did very little or nothing at all for the gameplay. Even the eye candy that did affect the way we played – the stealth cloud around garri for example – was more annoying than anything else. Zone wide weather effects (ie sandstorms) would have been far more interesting, but I digress.

Server re-link

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

That will be troublesome, relinking means people who transfer to guest server as a alternative way to “join up” the guild will be isolated again. Though I believe they can go to the support to get refund for it but still troublesome.

To topic, I think the T4 servers can get away by linking additional lowest 3 population servers, since anet says they can link as many together as they want and T4 isn’t packed.

Which is why I say they should have merged the kitten servers and be done with it. No re-link kitten. There is a cost in server identity, but lowering the amount of tiers had to be done on the current matchup system.

Yeah people complain now with what basicly amount to “on my dead server I used to be able to run around alone and PvD in primetime but now I have to fight players, booooo” arguments against being with a larger server, but imagine what happens when half your low pop linked server has joined guilds on the high pop server and then they get ripped apart? It’s gonna crush both people and guilds.

For new people it’s even worse. They wont even knew what hit them. Start the game, pick a random server, join WvW and join/start a great guild without knowing the link structure… and then you find the guild will soon be dead because you are on the “wrong” server and the other is full.

But hey if Anet have the guts to take that away from players and deal with the fallout, I guess kudos to them. Either way you look at it, low pop servers will be Anets punching bags.

Wait come to think about, no one transfer there! Dont want them to become populated and knock one of the real servers down to punching bag status.

The mindset that should ever be a way to win is what is ruining the game mode and making the players not care about score because with their current scoring system and the one proposed here , to win still means you PvD and siege hump REAL good. That is no way to reward a large scale PvP game mode. PvP should not be an after thought in a PvP game mode, it should be the focus and the reward.

And with the PPK > all mindset it will only mean this:

1 – People will siege hump more, because that give safe kills
2 – People will PvD more, because facing players may mean a defeat and loss of points
3 – People will only engage when outnumbering the enemy at least 5 to 1
4 – If you are not 5 to 1 on enemies, goto 1

DirectX 11/12 request [merged]

Dawdler.8521

I’m not sure if you’re able to answer these but I have two questions. You don’t have to get into the specifics.

How much work would it require to incorporate something like DX12 into GW2?
Would you have to re-write a lot of the code in order to do so?

Just incorporate it you say?

I’m not a dev but you know, the answer to that is probably simple: very, very little work.

99% of games – including AAA titles – that where “next gen” with the newest DX has pretty much all done the same kind of crap ever since DX8-9. Slap on a “next gen” shader and wooooooo it’s DirectX10, 11 or 12 or whatever! Of course the rest of the game is 99.9% coded with what is probably DX9 features.

I’m sure Anet can do the same. They could always give us async shaders for 5 more fps on AMD cards and 10 less fps on Nvidia cards. The game will look exactly the same, it’ll just perform either slightly better or slightly worse depending on what side in the GPU wars you took. Hey you asked for it.

It’s just simple hold the point. Every. Time. Hell theres even simpler modes that are much more fun, such as the single attack/defend point in for example Overwatch. There I become genuinly intrigued in the battle that’s going on and how individual players deal with it . On a GW2 center point its like “meh the fight is ok, but now the enemy will just go around and cap something else because thats how you win”.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

Dawdler.8521

Regarding the ‘controversial’ change of applying Action Level Multiplier, I’m totally in favor of it.
The way I see it, it’s a step in the direction of all players counting equally. Imagine a scenario of an OCX skirmish being worth 10 points and an NA one worth 30. If there were 10 players during the OCX skirmish one could say they are ‘responsible’ for 1 point each, and if there were 100 players during the NA skirmish, one could say they are responsible for ‘0.3’ points each, hence OCX player is still more valuable for a server (even if his Skirmish was worth a bit less). This Action Level Multiplier is a great measure for mitigating the feeling of ‘would anyone miss me if I were not here?’, as it aims to bring all players to roughly equal terms.

We’re fighting for a share of the total, always. Those 10 OCX players are fighting for a portion of the whole 100%, just as those 100 NA players are. If anything, I could argue that it’s not fair those 10 OCX players are doing 10x’s the labor of the NA players!!! They should get 10x’s the rewards!!!

10x the labor? What labor? Offtime cappers, with the extreme being EU nightcapping generally having it easy to tick 500+ PPT. Some even reach 695 PPT, that’s how easy it is. Meanwhile, the same server has to fight tooth and nail to get over 250 PPT during primetime. It is very hard to tick 500+ PPT during prime when all 3 sides are populated, if not impossible. I have seen it sure, but in those cases 1 side is often completely absent from the battlefield (more than likely the same server that will tick 500+ during the night).

TingleTangle, I think making ppk ~50% of the points is exactly what we want.

- It will ally the prime time guilds with scouts and defenders. No longer will fights barely contribute to the matchup. Even if the guilds don’t care about the points they will still be signifiucantly helping those that do.

- Having run the numbers using, historic data for, EU, NA, top and bottom of the league, at 5ppk the prime time 4 hours will score about 75%-100% more than 4 hours with just a handful, as opposed to only about 15%-30% now. It will be worth trying to earn points because it won’t all be outdone by a tiny number a few hours later. It should make the scoring more relevant to all.

- If another time zone has its own prime-time it can contribute every bit as much to the matchup.

- In so much as anyone cares about the score, it will actually reduce blobbing IMO. Right now blobs make a massive contribution to the score through ppt. With more ppk, rolling over objectives unopposed will contribute less. Instead, winning proper fights will be the way to amass points. Servers that want to win matchups will need to improve their fighting skills, not just blob numbers, especially off-peak.

But the great thing about ppk is the systems are already in place for it. It should be very easy to change the multiplier. If 5ppk did turn out to have undesired consequences it could be easily reduced to 3 or 4. On the other hand, we might even decide we want it to be 6 or 7 points per kill and guarantee that the points per hour in a busy time period (whenever that might be and whatever players bring it about) will be more than double a dead period, which seems very reasonable.

When PPK become a major factor to the score, players will start to blaim their own side directly for loosing the game, creating a toxic instead of a fun enviroment. Not a generic “why dont we PPT more?!”. It will be “why did you die you tool, gtfo of WvW” and they point finger at specific players. I already hear commanders say that but at the end of the fight its always just a matter of picking yourself up and trying again. With PPT being a major factor, commanders will simply go “nope we cant afford another loss with these noobs” and that’s the end of fights on that border for all 3 sides. GG. The game now isnt fun anymore.

This idea of Night Capping is Ludicrous.
It’s like telling Japan it’s not fair for attacking Pearl Harbor at 7:48 a.m. on a Sunday.
The Server runs 365 days a year 24/7.
Deal With It.

Well if Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor every night for 365 days a year and claimed victory at the end war solely due to the fact they have been bombing the same harbor that’s been empty for quite some time I am sure the US would have called unfair as well.

I am not talking equal skill here. Any of the skilled roamers know the scenario… fighting three guys, down one but cannot stop long enough to finish them because well two other players trying to kill you. That same scenario is true in small scale outnumbered fights as well.

Hah just yesterday I did a 1v3 on my scrapper. Targetted one of them while fighting the evasion game, got him to downed and… got downed myself because really, it was 3 vs me and just bringing one down took all the cooldowns. But as they begin to stomp, my function gyro finish its stomp and rally me. Proceed to easily kill and stomp the other two.

Look we all know the annoyances of downstate but its still a core part of what makes GW2 having pretty much the best MMO combat system in existance. No other game comes even close. It actually makes players help each other instead of competing against each other. Suggesting to “fix” that is like saying “oh are you sad today? Here just let me rip out your heart to make you feel better!”.

With near even numbers or zerg v zerg stomping is easy but that isn’t what I am talking about. We run in a 3-5 man group and engage twice or more our numbers regularly. Small groups fighting large groups cannot afford mistakes much less stopping to stomp a player under heavy AoE and CC.

It is incredibly annoying that we can down players multiple times in a fight but due to the sheer wall of AoE, trap spam, CC, etc cannot finish them off. It is just as annoying that we have to actively disengage when friendlies try to help as they are often just rally bots in those fights.

Well yeah. That’s called having an advantage in numbers and that’s always gonna be there. You cant make mistakes. Not bringing a group composition good enough to stomp is a mistake. If you did bring for example a scrapper for ranged stomp and a necro to fear everyone away from the downed or a chrono to gravity well on him and still lost… Well then you would have lost anyway. Because that’s how WvW works assuming both sides are roughly equal in skill. Larger numbers usually win.

Personally, I think you’re barking up the wrong tree. I’m not specifically against any of the proposed changes, but they don’t address the core of the issue. “Night capping” is a direct result of uneven coverage – why not attempt to fix that instead of the secondary problems it creates?

Because you cant fix that. Its literally impossible. Balancing out its effects by changing the scoring mechanics is the only way.

The current imbalance issue is literally due to population difference caused by stacking. Some servers have way too many people due to stacking over 3 years. Some servers are empty, due to destacking over 3 years.

The answer has always been simple. Control the intake by determining the differences between servers which then efficiently prevent stacking, if the lowest server is too low, you close off all other servers that exceed that population disparity. Of course, you will see some stackers QQing over “Full” status but that is the price they have to pay for stacking.

That is what Anet did you know. It doesnt work, because players always find a way around it in order to play in their overstacked cliques. Your ideas only work if you assume players are a herd of brainless sheeps. It also assume a steady flow from high to low tiers, which just aint gonna happen.

I disagree. EoTM showed that we did not need new maps.

Not sure what metric you use here. EoTM is quite populated. I don’t know how many instances still spawn in a given period, but when checking, its never empty, quite the opposite over the years its been out. Now its hard to tell if that was because of other various reasons or the map, but considering how many threads we have had on the forums saying EoTM is killing WvW I wouldn’t say its not been populated.

I use WvW as a metric. Not sure what else there is.

When EoTM came out, we where impressed by its visuals but that was it. We still played WvW. Buisness as usual. Maps still had queues. And we enjoyed it, didnt we? Otherwise we wouldnt be here arguing about it. So that is the metric I used.

Alpine Maps.. fine tuning.

I do agree that the lake tower is probably the objective in most dire need for a change.
The issue is that it has far too many weak spots (catapults in the tunnel, trebs in the ruins, trebs in hills) and it doesn’t really serve a purpose other than helping to cut off hills from supply deliveries by the south camp… which will promptly cause the guys in hills to drop a treb and start shooting.

Which in turn will force the peeps that own the tower to respond to said treb in the keep.

You explained perfectly why Alpine design is so vastly superior to Desert and you didnt even intend it.
