Depends on what you want to do in the frontline. I dont play my tempest often but when I do I use a full cleric build in the frontline and output insane amounts of healing. Water runes (had no badges for monks, otherwise I’d run that), benevolence/water sigils and everything specced toward healing. When buffed up its ~1000hp/s on soothing mists alone. Rather than pop healing when the commander regroups, I do it when the commander leap in, acting like a healbomber to dull the impact of the enemy counterbomb. It can be pretty effective and allow the commander to simply keep pushing, breaking the enemy. Wont exactly win the prize in most damage dealt, but it still got some decent AoE tools to support the zerg.
I enjoy playing it every now and then as its pretty different in style from my normal go to scrapper roamer.
SO -Can we all PLEASE drop the term night capping….?… It is not a thing.
Alright then. Let’s call it this instead:
Imbalanced PPT from exponential score growth during periods of times when WvW has so low population its willfully being abused by players to gain an advantage by fighting without any opposition for a matchup winning effect.
There you go.
And guess what? It still need to be balanced.
I await a retort.
I think that its pointless to even try to think about it. A jumping puzzle daily, lol? There’s like what, 20 different dailies in total and you only need 3 to complete it? No one cares if they cant complete one measly jumping puzzle. Seriously. No one cares.
If you want to get technical all Asura are transgenders because Anet forces all the females to wear male costumes…
Until you realize that Asuran males wear skirts, so yeah… Not sure where you are going with that.
Unless you saying that a male wearing skirt and female wearing pants make them transgenders. Because I’m sure both the Scottish and every female in the western world would probably disagree with you.
I usually don’t post in the forums, but since we got the Great Gaile Gray’s attention, i figured some spec work was in order.
Did this very quick, but i think a few options of comm tag shapes would make it easier for newcomers to link shape to function and help disambiguations, especially now that we have world linkings in WvW. And if you ever ask, no, i won’t make a sword tag because i don’t want to interfere with the swords crossed battle icon on map.
I tried to keep the colors to a minimum of variants to make sure they were distant enough from each other. Still partial to having the teal and forest green variant, as a lot of people have a hard time with this color spectrum. The grey ones might not be functional on all maps as well.
Comments?
It’s perfect. We have suggested different icons before to extend the range of commander tags (follow the dolly! No not that dolly, the dolly commander! :p), but what you posted is just lovely.
Though I suspect nearly everyone will choose the pink heart.
Another idea to differentiate them might be to add a different number of chevrons depending on the size of the squad (ie full 50 man squad is 3 chevrons or something).

Maybe Anet can relink some of the more unhappy servers? After all, this is beta and things are suppose to change.
What’s an “unhappy server”? For every person that go “booo my server identity is gone!” I bet there are 10 which are more than happy to mindlessly zerg and enjoy the higher population.
From the very announcement of the pairing we knew that it was a merger in practice. Relinking servers… I dont think its going to go well for the smaller of the pair. Many people will probably have found guilds and friends on the bigger server and will be forced to transfer. Even if that’s a marginal amount, we will just see the same thing repeat itself the next time. You get paired with a big server, dislike its blobbing because its the exact same thing in all tiers, even more people leave… Your server will eventually go down the route of death by pairing.
If you want to change the way you fight and enjoy doing it, you have to do it yourself.
So often FSP seem to have closed raid groups and ask you to not follow the comm – something not come across before.
Yes, that’s called raid guilds. They are quite common. Yellow tags are always considered closed raids.
There are still alot of open raids however – look for blue, red or purple tags outside the yellow tags (if its a red or purple on a yellow, that’s the guilds focus party). There is usually at least one zerg going, especially during primetime. After the merge, I have seen as many as 4 open tags on a border.
Really, there are still tons of opportunities to spread out across the maps and small scale. In fact, that’s what win the maps. Not T1 class 50+ zerging. That many people in one place will roflstomp any opponent, true, but they will also be completely incapable to keep up with many smaller forces backcapping. I do smallscale roaming and random dueling every single day and yes, I’m on FSP and been there a long time.
Reduce the in-combat delay on healing, so us healers can do our jobs.
What delay? Anet cant make slow people blast waterfields any faster. Its not like they can make your 1000hp/s passive AoE tick faster than once a second either. I dont get it.
2) I’ve setup my own private site to pull average points per tick via API. Last week TC had 680, DB 420. That shows the match was being determined by blob combat. You can’t score 680 on PPT. TC’s was usually under 280 on the non kill tick. So all you people that think there is not enough influence from PVP action – wrong. 100 DB’ers getting killed every 15m all day adds up.
Is this a total match points/total ticks? Just curious, because PPD (Points Per Dolly) has a major impact to overall score (a while ago someone noted it was ~30% of final score) yet its not seen in the PPT count.
It’s part of the reason why runaway points can go to extremes at max PPT – the more keeps/towers and camps you have, the more your server points rise expontentially because not only do you get PPT, your dollys from those camps going to the keeps/towers literally poop out score by the thousands.
Yaks Bend got bent.
Step 1)
Buy enough slots to have 1 of each class, if you dont already have that. Its pretty much the only thing required off the gemstore (well, you also want bank expansions and a few 250 upgrades, but let’s ignore that).
Step 2)
Create all the classes and get them to 80 with basic exotic gear (soldiers/berserker/whatever).
Step 3)
Play them all and then go kitten it, there’s no such thing as a “main” in GW2 because you can freely swap between them without worrying about gear levels.
Sry but no i draw the line at lesbians if anet adds transgender npc to party i dont buy the next expansion ^^
You say that now but when Anet adds the next relationship between a female Charr and a female Asura you’ll wish for the latter. Or maybe you wont. I suppose that depends.
.
I also think there are a few terms for when the majority make special rules to marginalize a minority.
There is a term for when the majority have the same rules as the minority too, except the new rules is different from the old rules in a way that improve them overall.
It’s called… uhm… wait… better rules. Yes, that’s it.
I remain flabbergasted with the fact that people keep spouting nonsense.
To make a comparison with a recent change, let’s take stability. Before it sucked and now its fine. It’s a global change in the rules of the game. Anet didnt make it a special rule in order for the melee train to be able to crush the backline. They didnt just set the ICD on Guardians and Warriors only, which would have been the eqvivalent of what some people think a reduction of runaway score will mean. Anet arent that kittened and players would have gone berserk over a change that favored certain classes only. No, they change the entire rule for how stability work. ICD for everyone. Same for everyone.
Again, Anet arent complete kittens. Give them more credit than that.
Ugh…
Ok, I’ll be short in this thread.
A change that target specific hours, timezones or players?
Unacceptable.
Unviable.
Illogical.
Globally change the way WvW scoring works and reduce the impact of runaway scores due to unbalanced sides, with the same WvW scoring rules applied 24/7?
Perfect.
What we need.
Logical.
And yet people instantly go apekitten over the first thing, which Anet never would do unless they are kittens.
Stop screaming at Anet that is unfair that when your not playing other people are and they should be punished for it.
Yeah they should be punished for it!
Wait wat, lol.
And for kittens sake, offtime players would not be kittening punished. Since when is having higher PPT than all the other servers punishing people for playing? Explain to me that. Please. Because I dont understand it.
If your server score 695 because you’ve been PvDing and killing lords defended by absolutely no one for 4 hours tonight and the coming week you do the same thing – for the exact same XP, loot and reward track progress – except your server “only” get 400 PPT max because the curve is logarithmic instead of linear for all servers EU and US around the clock.
How are you punished?
Tell me.
Please.
50% voted for discrimination, that’s how i see it. now we all know what the 50% of wvwer r like
True, so many voted for night players continuing to be worth 10 times as much as the rest. That is indeed discrimination.
Havent noticed any difference at all when roaming on borders.
This is mainly about EB.
Oh you mean the zone that’s lagged since release when 3 full zoneblobs meet? Ok.
Havent noticed any difference at all when roaming on borders.
I am actually hesistant of this feature.
I feel the same way about it like how I feel about the sentries – I understand and see the benefits, but at the same time it removes a little engagement from players to lazily automate a function. We have already had this feature since they changed guild communications – WvW server guilds that can act a liasion between other guilds and offer global WvW coms for scouts/commanders/etc.
Is team chat really a better way than that?
It really depend on your 2 mates and what/how you intend to engage IMO. I would not recommend a hammer if the other two are full ranged, unless you will be the dedicated brawler (in which case I would say use something much tougher than zerker). If everyone is ranged and you intend to engage considerably larger groups, then p/p condi/hybrid win the sustain game.
If you run 3 scrappers definetly use rr/fs on all three and 4-5 gyros. Trust me, its a kittenton of fun and your screen will be sparkling with ligthning fields and swearing enemies.
Also, interesting that you say core warrior is the worst, considering the poster above you said it’s tied for 2nd best. Was watching a montage earlier with a zerk GS/Rifle doing 13k crits.
The problem with such as build is that you sacrifice everything to be a one hit wonder, much like how most thieves build. Missing that shot (or even better, getting it reflected into your face) means you are probably doomed. It also means that small groups will probably roflstomp you. I have always seen this type of build as a party flanker, someone that pops a shot in to surprise someone that’s already engaged (again, much like how thieves perform the best).
Well I want everything but I would say that tweaking the PPT score design would be the most important thing. I like PPT, I think its part of what makes WvW work, but reducing the impact of exponential score growth during low population times is way, way overdue.
Doing something as simple as diminishing returns would be enough as a first attempt.
Also, do you think LB/GS ranger has any place right now? The Druid build doesn’t really appeal to me, though I see it’s power.
The cheesy staff/greatsword avoidance style has completely pushed away the normal ranger when it comes to roaming. Played well they are near impossible to kill and completely impossible to catch by anything other than a thief. Best case scenario is that you can slug it out for 5+ minutes with another sustain build, but he can withdraw at any moment so its pretty pointless unless its a fight to the death.
Most traditional MMOs keep firing up the gear treadmil, usually combined with some minor new gameplay additions to not make it to obvious, to keep players happy and farming. In GW2 this approach does not work.
Yeah, GW2 instead has made major gameplay additions and kept firing up living story, sPvP tournaments and WvW to keep players happy and farming.
The horror!
Depends on what the price jump up to one equipped with 980M is (that is about 30% faster).
Changing the commander tag color is a 5 second job – leave the squad, tag up/down with your color of choice, join the squad and take command. The squad system remembers the last color used.
That said, it would of course be even simpler if we could simply change it on the fly, true.
It’s interesting that you mention that, Dawdler, and thank you for your response.
There were one or two instances this week where I attempted to do that, and it didn’t work. I’m unable to post pictures at this moment, but here’s a general description:
“Commander A forms a Squad and tags up Red. I join his squad, alongside 25 others. Commander A assigns me as Squad Leader and leaves the squad. I leave the squad. I click the color change UI and select Yellow. I am invited and rejoin the squad. I select “Lead Squad.” My tag is red, not yellow.
I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem. It might just be a bug.
Did you just select it or did you tag up/down yellow alone first?
Asura in general feel a bit underrepresented and kind of a “joke race”
Underrepresented?
You do realize that the Asuran player character conquers entire Tyria at the head of the steam creature army? Did any of the other races do that?
Well until they go through a dimensional portal and get killed by the player character in the dimension we currently reside in.
This also means that the alternate version of the Asuran player character is technically responsible for the rise of Scarlet and the entire living story, because the steam creature technology she used was brought from that alternate dimension and still linger in parts of our Tyria.
It’s only positive now cos you are picking up all the bags you missed in the last 4 years!
Imagine how much WvW players have lost because they couldnt pick up all their loot.
This WvW autoloot mastery should be available to all players, even those who have not bought HoT.
Or its a perfect incentive to actually get people to buy HoT. Call it money grubbing all you want but there are bad ways to do this and there are good ways to do this. Anets way is good. Its a pure incentive that doesnt kitten the “normal” way to loot in any way or form. We’ve used that for 4 years and most WvWers will probably still spam the loot button even if they have autoloot. Loosing bags was a thing true, but the amount was miniscule compared to what you picked up.
TL;DR people need to get with the program and buy HoT.
Yes, its a guardian. Its usable I suppose.
If the big zerg in front of you is “unstoppable” its either because its 3x your size or because you think it is. Psychology 101, think like that and you’ve already lost. I cant even begin to count the times I have seen an entire 20 man backline get distracted by 5 peeps, which mean the rest can be rolled by your smaller zerg.
We had epic 3-way SM fight yesterday at GH+FoW against DZ and FSP+UW. It lasted over 2 hours I think and only ended because our comm got tired of fighting FSP blob in their chokes and pulled them out from SM into open area so DZ got in and capped the SM.
My point (beside that it was great fight) is that lag was horrible. Half the players comments on chat and TS were about the lag. You cast the skill and it will pop 2 seconds later. Comm says to push, you start to move but whole screen is frozen. It really ruins the fun if you die because of lag.
Yeah 4 years of 3-way lag in SM and now… we still have that lag. Quelle surprise.

Scrapper is filthy in the frontline and can replace eles as the water/cleanse bot, allowing your eles to spec for full DPS
Uhm… A “proper” ele will already be specced for dps and use big/small waters when required. If we assume a true ele healbot, a scrapper could never replace it because its not even in the same healing league.
That said, I still find the scrapper to be a capable roamer and frontliner post-patch. I use the exact same specs as I did pre-patch.
Just roll over them with the zerg then. Create gank squads to kill them. WvW is an open game mode, if duelers want to duel in an area the eqvivalent of a pool of acid, that’s their choice. They arent going to stop if you ask them. I cant imagine you will be very popular on the server though.
Normal people spammed the loot button every second anyway, the gains is really the daily and reward tracks.
Can’t count the times I had a random banner in my hands
Hey loot is loot, if I took it its mine.
FoW will nightcap GH to the number 1 in this match no matter how many blobs FSP throws us at prime time
Ah yes, the perfect scoring system to be proud over.
18 hours of 3 servers fighting each other during the day is irrelevant, 6 hours of 1 server fighting doors and NPC during the night is a story in the same class as the Illiad.
Yeah seems you guys have even a more kittentier nightcrew then us on GH. Perhaps spread those omniblobs a bit more?
Alas the blob can only spread so much before it become pancake.

A mediocre band-aid.
What they need is a seamless map system that can scale with the overall population and separate players/guilds/claims by servers while dynamically matching them with ally servers to create a decently balanced matchup.
Maybe it sounds like EoTM megaserver with WvW matchups and server identities. That’s because it is. We already have the answer in front of us, we just wont accept it.
Not that I like afkers either but how would you decide who is “just macroing their skills etc just to fool the afk check” and who is in WvW really playing? Even if you simply stand still for 10 minutes, chatting with guildies, you could still observe enemy movements same time.
You could also move a little every now and then, but yeah its pretty much impossible to make a rule about it because no matter what Anet decides is AFK, macros will bypass it.
Regarding the queues it would be funny if the servers cant handle it… too much queueing lol.
suggestion , put some low server back for people who are casual players
If you are casual, then why care at all? Join borders or EoTM, queue and lazily play. Problem solved.
Oh so “active” commanders get ahead of queues?
Dont mind me then, I’m gonna tag up blue permanently and run like whatever just to get ahead in the queue if I crash, muahaha!!!
Marriage ceremony?
I hope its not Asuran. You want to bring them a kittening nice wedding gift but nooooo… a pocket dimension full of pink hairy Norns is apparently a “crime against nature”, pfff.
Lets see, quick look at google translator…
Càlaghaidh
Wait that actually sounded pretty cool. kitten :/
You have never been able to swap characters in 4 years without loosing your place in the queue or dropping out of WvW… and yes its been complained about before, especially when the queue system was still totally broken.
IMO there should be a character switch function without actually dropping you out of WvW but it aint gonna happen anytime in the near future. Maybe in a few years if you get lucky.
im using quadcore cpu so my theory is this game only use 2 cores
Which the 64bit client were suppose to fix and didnt.
What? No it wasnt, the 64bit client is only supposed to make it 64bit which helps against memory crashes. Afaik GW2 is still kitten at multithreading.
Maguuma queued only one map at a time on Saturday…
FSP only queued one map on a Sunday as well.
I mean sure it was 90 man queue on EBG on a lazy Sunday afternoon, but still it was only a measly one map.
Simple answer: you cant.
Character model settings affects fps the most, if you got a decent card the rest of the settings are pretty much irrelevant. Its the player counts and effects that drag performance down. Anet could improve fps on dbl considerably simply by removing kitten we dont want (stealth cloud effect for example is a huuuuuuge fps drain) but nope. Deal with it.
It doesnt really matter if people are fans of EB or not because the overall design (ie 3 keeps in a triangle with something interesting in the center) is pretty much the only way to fix WvW permanently as it would allow map scaling by population in each matchup. With 3 static different borders we’re essentially stuck with a system that cant be fixed.
But I digress, let’s see where the pairs take us.
