I’m a little confused as to why so many people have an issue with spending $50-$75 for HoT.
Would you pay $50-$75 for a nice steak dinner?
I would.
Would you pay $50-$75 for a combo meal at McDonalds?
I wouldn’t.
Sometimes a product just isn’t worth its price to a given customer. Doesn’t mean that the customer is a cheapskate. Doesn’t make him a hater. Just makes him someone who decides what a given product is worth, or not worth, to him.
Yeah its quite ridiculous that people always go “boohoo you’re poor!” when P2W aspects as brought up in games.
HoT isnt technically p2w over GW2 as you can still be usefull in PvP/WvW but its a pretty fine line… Elite specs are simply better. But its not bad.
To compare with BDO which is a f2p game changed into a b2p game with unchanged f2p mechanics and a f2p cashshop, it got an outfit that give you a clear advantage in PvP that cost you $30. That’s absolutely kittening ridiculous. Especially if you think the HoT price “wrong”. That’s ONE outfit for ONE character. Its not accountbound. Its soulbound. And that’s just the beginning of its cashshop…
GW2 cashshop is a joy in comparison. No force, no scummy things and the ability to convert gold<→gems. You want to use it.
And no, I’m not poor. I can easily afford that BDO costume (or everything in the GW2 shop) without even thinking. Its the principle of it. Its still kittening ridiculous.
Weird how some people can be attracted to anything, regardless what it is nomatter how awkward or gross it is, once breast are slapped onto it.
I dont even think breasts would help my kitten y Asura to charm people.
Well take for example the wall in fire keep inner, now that’s kind of an extreme case because of its height and its basically the only way to attack fire keep inner is to face that wall, there is no other way to break into fire keep’s lords room.
… thats not entirely true…
You can cata the south door from a completely safe location on the top of the south stairs. Its possible you can reach the wall as well, havent really tried all spots.
When you see it you will go “DOH!”.
And now that I have said that, a million arrowcart users will cry.
The problem is that you didn’t listen 10 pm eastern is way to late. 50% or more of NA is on the east coast so you have alienated all of them. When you first brought up moving reset people told you that 10 pm was too late. Your reasoning for being so late was to give yourselves time to roll out an update, unless it is a game breaking bug there is absolutely no reason to roll out a fix that late at night. ANET not being able to do their job in a timely manner is no reason to alienate your customers.
What was the pre-HoT US reset? Just curious, only play on EU ( this will be same time as pre-HoT if I remember my UTC correct).
This is definitely one of the most important topics I would say.
Not really, haha. But still, its interesting to see the charts.
Something I stated elsewhere recently is that pugs and guilds is like the body and the head. Neither can survive alone and if they become unbalanced you either get a too big head or grow fat and slow. The activity of pugs drive a server up the ranks, which create fights for guilds. Its when dominating guilds loose sight of this and go “oh but we dont PPT, we only fight!” while pulling the pugs into the same mindset that servers inevitably collapse, leading to guilds leaving. Well, until people transfer there and the cycle begin again.
Wait when did Mike say they were dumping the overhaul for being too complicated?!
Doesnt sound like Anet to spend so much resources on something to then dump it and work on something else for it. Dump it and work on PvE, sure, but not something else for WvW! :P
Here is a breakdown of the Reddit thread on Dulfy:
http://dulfy.net/2016/03/05/gw2-reddit-developer-ama-summary/#WvW
“We overscoped a big “WvW 2.0? awesome update that was taking forever … so now we will ship lots of small incremental improvements that get us to where we want to be, and so y’all know we are actually working on it! Some of the things done over the last year and a half are reusable, and we’ll get those to a ship-able state.”
Also notice how he completely danced around the question of what WvW 2.0 really was. The only thing mentioned is changing dbl – which we have yet to see if they even started working on.
I will believe WvW 2.0 is a complete fabrication until I see them presenting even the tiniest mechanic change that improve WvW on any level.
Nurse golems can probably feed 10 asuran prodigys at once. Doing it manually one by one is a waste of time and effort.
Its simple math people.
I cant remember the exact levels, but about 2-4 levels into every 10th from 20 (ie 24ish, 34ish, 44ish, etc) there will be fresh green gear that last you the next 10 levels easy. Between that, dont bother buying anything, just replace as you go.
guys he has data.
what about custom arenas in pvp, which is basically a team deathmatch most of the time? or those gankers picking off repawners in wvw? or those duelers that you driveby stomp in your zerg? or actual teams getting in contact with eachother for 5v5 fights? should these people not have a voice because your data says otherwise?
The correct answer to that is:
What about it? What are you even talking about? Why would they even get a voice?
That capture activity goes hand in hand with fights is a given fact. Because thats what the WvW gameplay mode is. If you only focus on fights or the server is “fight guild” heavy, it drops like a stone in the rankings. Its only the capture activity of pugs that allow a server to climb. Which is what gives the fights to everyone.
Sure, on the one side the alpine where boring to see with the time, but if the alpine map would have been had seasons like autumn (pick a apple at the mill for a shorttime buff) or winter with a frozen bay, there would be no need for another map too soon so far. Every quarter of the year the map would have been a little bit different.
Or they could have just made variations on the same map, for example:
Jungle border (just alpine with HoT assets).
Frozen border (again just alpine but now with Kodan designed keeps and ice all over).
Desert border (alpine with sand and keeps like the silverwastes).
They could have done all these quickly in probably 1/10th the time it took to make DBL from scratch.
15 gyro scrappers would permastealth, permadaze, permasuperspeed, permastab, permaheal better than warrior passive, permareflect 360 degrees, permaprotection, a permawaterfield that moves with them, pulls every second and they would also look kitten if all where Asurans.
But nooo… kittenty dragunhunter (charr with backpacks of course) and human reapers (for teh boobies) is the norm.
Bah!
I’ll crawl back under my rock now and hiss at guild groups running by.
whats ridiculous about it is its impossible to attack the enemy as a defender. you are forced into siege to quell the enemy. if you can pull off 1500 range and spend 75% of the time kiting great, but anything short of that is likely to get caught. do you disagree? i would love to hear your response.
WvW walls are there as a secondary means to breach an objective. The more upgraded they are, the longer it will take to breach, which means that defenders have longer to assemble the troops inside so that PvP between the two forces can happen. Sometimes the defending force will push outside, sometimes they will try to hold inside.
Standing on the wall and shooting outside doesnt really have anything to do with it. Its possible yes, but its not the purpose of the walls. They could remove the ability to even get up to the walls and they would still function the same.
TL;DR “Improving” the walls is pointless. Nothing is gained. The higher more “defensible” DBL walls proves this. They are kitten compared to regular old alpine/EB walls.

This is incredibly rascist.
Its only fair that we demand more beards on Norn females as well.
First of all. Taking a look at score it currently says (409.863 for Piken, 153.580 for Far Shiverpeaks and 287.635 for Elona Reach). There is obviously a big difference in points, and having a little knowleadge about the Matchup you will see that FSP had few people during the week, while Piken and Elona Reach had way more.
Until now everything seems normal right? A server gets beaten by another one (or by other two).
Well, now let’s check at leaderboard. FSP lost 30k points in overall leaderboard while Piken won 40k. How is this possible? In a single week? Well in this case FSP lost a lot of commanders and players so it might be normal that Piken took this advantage,a s well as ER.
That weeks FSP vs Piken vs Elona matchup was a special case – several FSP guilds and some of its most prominent commanders left for Piken a day into the matchup. They exploited this by going full on blobbing PPT server and focused FSP with groups twice FSP size. On a nice note, FSP no longer queue EB in primetime, lol.

I did take a little break from the game and PVP already becomed a CC/Invul spam damage race ? Did actually people enjoy this ? Did actually Anet believe this is how PVP should be ? Did anyone know when will be next major PVP change will be ?
I thought it was obvious that Anet think that’s how PvP should be?
Otherwise they wouldnt have made HoT like it is and balanced all the classes like they are.
PPT already encourage splitting up. Matchups are won by it. Sure you may loose a direct 30vs70 fight, but when you have another 30 people running around capping everything else on the border and 10 people capping camps then those 70 peeps are going to loose every tick.
So I fail to see the need to “force” the zerg to divide. If numbers matter then its the servers meeting each other that are unbalanced – which cant be solved by “splitting up” the zerg.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Anet should update Obsidian Sanctum.
It’s the perfect place for GvG (pre-arranged), and could be reorganized to make it a good battlefield for fight guilds.^this^
If you want to have PvP w/ more people than are allowed in PvP (“large scale PvP”), then go into O/S; there’s a pretty little arena in there just for you all!
… which is exactly what they did. On popular demand, they changed OS from a jumping puzzle only map to have the huge dueling/GvG arena as well.
What, people forgot about that? O.o
I’m one of the few engineers who play on support an hate the healing-turret. Which granted me a lot of laughs and mockery over the years. Before the gyro I used other things, in PvE I used the Dwayna Healing skill, which created even more mockery when people saw it. The healing turret seems to be as important to the basic engineer, as the GS is to the warrior class. This mostly ruins any controversal discussion about the topic ingame.
My problems with the turret:
- it feels bulky. It has to be depolyed on the ground, cannot be moved and eats damage.
- both waterfields last not much more than the blink of an eye
- makes coordinating blastfinishers difficult. If you want to use the blastfinishers from other people, you need to ogranize it in the group.
- the direct heal ammount of the turret is pretty low.The gyro in comparison:
- follows your movements, heals you and your allies arround.
- the waterfield is fixed to your character, it moves with you.
- the waterfield has a wide range and a long duration, making it easy to use blastfinishers and allowing others to use theirs.
- the direct heal is low as with the turret, but your gyro follows you and heals you over time – no matter where you go.What the gyro does in addition:
- you can stun enemies where you stand and not where you used the gyro first.
- the waterfield grants protection as pulse, which is quite handy. After every update I gave the turret a new try. I always dumped it within a few minutes. When the next update includes any change with the turret, I will give it another try ofcourse. Maybe one day I can understand how to use it correctly. In the meantime, I enjoy the gyro ^^
Exact same thing for me. I never liked the turret, ran with elixir but never really liked speccing for that either.
The gyros gave me a reason to play the engie again… with the last time being about 3 years ago. Scrapper is my main now. I love my gyros.
One of the drawbacks of the Alpine maps was that most structures had no reason for you to defend, aside from PPT. The reason to defend the garrison was not just symbolic, but for the valuable waypoint. In EOTM and Desert BL, structures that give you buffs give you a reason to defend aside from just passive points.
Um no, towers in alpine and ebg can be used to take the bigger structures, swt could hit bay, set could hit hills door, nwt net both could hit garrison, in ebg every forward tower can hit smc(cept ogres red keep takes that place). Now the new dbl? yeah they certainly don’t serve any purpose other than looking different from each other.
Towers served as alternative ways to get the outer walls down if an enemy was entrenched in their keep, it forced your enemies to either come up with counter siege attacks or even bring their own force out to try and take back that tower. Especially if it threatened a waypoint.
They’ve messed with the tower and waypoint ideals when they made the new map, which it made it even worse.
P.S They won’t scrap the new bl obviously, too much work was put into it, but I’m sure they will continue to tweak it at some point. and eventually on rotation with the alpine map.
Which is exactly why dbl cant be fixed or compromised. Its breaks the design of WvW.
The core design of WvW is not a diffuse definition of “pvp” that “fight servers” have made up, its fighting over a continous chain of keeps and towers. When this lacks any meaning due to them being disconnected like on dbl, WvW lacks meaning.
Being a commander is a LOT more than watching some videos on youtube, screaming out “bomb bomb bomb” on TS and then blaming pugs when you wipe. There’s too many commanders who do that already, and all they manage to accomplish is driving people off.
No its not. Its alot less. In fact, its just a freaking dorito over someones head.
I honestly dont understand why people keep trying to place commander on high podiums and as such they need to go through 8 years of military academy, have an IQ of 200 and a fabulous hair or they are not worthy of leading.
No. What you want from a glorious commander has nothing to with the ingame cost of the tag. That great commanders have taken to a certain style of leading is a whole other matter that has to do with players, not the tag system.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Because you are so kitten hot?
WvW should revolve around fights.
- Holding objectives doesn’t award points.
- Instead, holding objectives will grant points and bonuses when your party/squad defeats an enemy.
- So the more objectives you hold, the more points your server gets per kill, and the more personal rewards you get when you or a party member makes a kill. With this system, holding objectives is still important, but at the same time you’re encouraged to fight, both personally and as a server.
This may sound great if you think about it the honorable way – we are great warriors defending against foes trying to kill us and take our keep!!!
This is not the reality of WvW and its players. If you think a little more, you might realize that what would happen is this:
The guild Ninjabaseballbatmanquaggans take 10 peeps to defend a keep. 5 comes to attack, but low and behold they throw themselves on the guildies swords. Over and over and over again. Why? Because its the same darn guilds free accounts on the other server. And thats how you win a matchup.
Getting points by some fluffy definition of what “defense” is will be so easily abused.
After briefly checking out the homepage for Black Desert, knowing that it was a Korean developed thing (nothing against it, just different design style), AND having shelled out $50 for Tera and feeling like I got socked in the gut with a tackhammer – No, I wont be playing Black Desert.
BDO is only $30. Which tbh is perfectly fine for a month or two of diversion from GW2 especially if you are like me and sick of Anets excuses over WvW. Another game gives you some perspectives. But I dont see it surviving too long. The grind is insane, the PvP is flawed and the cashshop is scummy beyond belief. Still kind of fun though.
During the Reddit AMA they said they would change the new map by opening some choke points, changing the terrain so you wouldn’t die every time you fall down from a cliff and so on.
Wont fix the core layout flaw of desert – keeps/towers are too big, too far apart and some in the completely wrong locations in relation to defender spawn.
Just doing superficial changes fix nothing. Desert is fundamentally flawed no matter how pretty it is.
I made a comparison image (alpine overlaid on desert with some 3D walls drawn on) before, but I am not on my computer now so wont bother posting it again. Maybe tomorrow.
The short story is that the alpine circle that is east bay/nw tower/south garri/ne tower/west hills/se tower/sw tower is pretty much the circle that is desert oasis.
To make a direct distance comparison, the sw sentry on desert (by spawn) is about as far from the sw tower on desert kitten bay is from sw tower on alpine.
Yeah. Alpine is alot more compact.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
But what does any of that has to do with GW2? I’m guessing all above middle tier servers already have public voice coms and highly encourage everyone to use it. I fail to see how forcing it and elitism improve WvW.
Forcing players into a niche is never a good idea. The very core of WvW is everybody can jump in and have fun.
But sure, lets separate WvW by free choice and voice only. That’ll be 27 servers fighting in 9 tiers on one side and 1 server fighting against itself in 1 tier on the other.
Potentially assume all three borders queued 24/7.
It doesnt happen. Not even in T1.
If we reduced to WvW to EB and a single DBL it would only be queued because 50 people are afk waiting for EB pop.
Separating PvE servers from WvW server, creating less WvW servers and giving a free transfer on your wvw server every 3 months would keep it much less stale than it is currently.
In the current system, less and more dynamic servers, free transfers and more population transparency really is the key to allowing the community to regulate itself. we really cant do anything with the amount of servers we got today. You could halve them and probably still not reach all full servers.
But that would mean admitting the population is lower than what management percieves.
IE aint ever gonna happen. An empty server is still a server when you look at the server count only.
What he said. You used to be able to banner the dead lord NPC, which made for some great fights but could become silly. A neat fix would have been to put a counter on the NPC such that it could only be so resurrected X times in Y minutes or it popped up with diminished health each time or what have you. Instead they made it so you can’t banner the dead lord NPC. On the one hand, a bummer; on the other, kind of a relief.
Funny thing is they didnt even need to think of a “fix” – just apply the same rules as on a player. They already had a fix in the game from launch and they chose not to use it but instead go with the usual heavy handed approach and remove a feature that made WvW fun (up to a certain point), gave it another tactical layer and gave the Warrior a purpose when rushing to defend a keep.
Its typical Anet and a reminder of the lost glory days of WvW.
So is no one going to comment on how the ‘big wvw patch’ never existed in the first place?
The couple of days you had to discuss the wvw overhaul or forever hold your peace was last week.
Sorry.
“We’re investigating whether to fix or revert DBL. They’re both a lot of work. These next couple days will be your last chance to give feedback before we make a decision, so speak now or forever hold your peace.”
I had to actually go to the thread, put my face up to the monitor and confirm that he did actually write this in the thread and that it wasnt just the OP. The President of Anet. Mike Obrien. Says that we only got a few days to respond to an issue that’s been destroying the community since HoT and been a very toxic topic of discussion… or forever hold our peace.
I am… at a loss of words.
Seriously.
I dont know what to say.
Hahaha… Being on FSP that is pretty telling. Still in the upper third rankings, capture activity lower than middle. Outmanned on EB primetime :/
Oh well, if you aint fighting to overcome adversity then there’s little point to fight anyway.
The lords had a “downstate” since you could banner them, which created amazing 2-3 hour constant battles in the same keep. Well, except Anet in their wisdom allowed you to banner them indefinetly with no penalties. After the 50th or so bannering of the lord you started to get kind of tired.
the one problem with making tags too accessible is everyone starts throwing them up and devaluing them.
Lolwut?
Commander tags doesnt have value. Its a critical WvW gameplay element that’s hidden behind a paywall, much like +5 is now (well, except +5 is much, much worse).
Saying “well if you gonna dump down siege all day surely 300g is nothing” is silly. The very idea that commanders have to be rich is absolutely ridiculous. What is this, a game of nobles and peasants, where only the nobles are are allowed certain features?
I see no reason why not to have it 100g + badges. Or in fact, they could have three purchase options available – 300g, 100g + badges or just a kittenton of badges. Done deal everybody happy.
There is no problem with meeting SFR, problem is that it happened 6 out of 8 possibile times. Can u call it random roll?
Yes.
A while ago FSP had a matchup that was like 0.1% chance to happen.
It happened.
Poor Gankdara, glicko is a kitten.
At this point of the game, T7 and T8 should get free transfers out and then be closed. People down there deserve better.
Or even better, just automatically transfer the servers up in reversed order (ie server 27 merge with server 1, server 26 merge with server 2, etc) and half the current ones.
Scrappers are a solid pick but don’t synergize with other classes outside of the stealth gyro but still a strong roamer.
Actually it synergize extremely well with itself if you go final salvo and gyros.
Not too long ago I had an awesome 2 scrappers vs 3 tempests fight. Scrappers won >.<
(also it was 5 asurans so the fight was beautifull too)
Reaper is a good roaming profession for more than 2 people but it doesn’t have many ways to escape if things go south ; the lack of stability means it is easy to get locked down.
If 50% uptime of pulsing stability is lack of stability then all classes actually lacking stability must be in a really bad shape.
I would assume that there have been some improvements and significant changes between the Alpine Borderlands Map (ABM) and the Desert Borderlands Map (DBM).
You would assume wrong.
Changing alpine to be “HoT compatible” would be no stranger than what we already got in EB. I wouldnt even cry if alpine was not made the same. They can skip T3 walls and doors and the kittened waypoints. Because kitten that kitten.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Pistol/pistol hybrid scrapper with all gyros work great 1v1.
The problem is certain specific classes that are very popular hard-counter condis cough kitten you reapers! hurk.
I’m fairly certain this is not how lords work, but if you are correct… This is the literal worst outcome for everyone.
Its not a fantasy or percieved difficulty vs lords, its exactly how lords work. You can easily 2-3 man a lord if there is zero defenders nearby. You cant even do it if there are 20 defenders cheering you on.
Now, whether Anet intended lords to scale to all nearby players instead of just enemies to the lord is another matter.
Theoretically, it allows the defenders of the keep to “buff” the lord against a superior force by their mere presence, thus delaying its capture. In practice, it makes it impossible to kill the lord with a smaller force when zergs are fighting, you need everyone on the lord or there is little point.
This pretty much confirm that it is intended behaviour. No PvP in the lord room, only PvE. Anet logic.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
This is just ANet adding something for this demographic, which is either the second or third most neglected subset of the total player-base (with WvW far and away the most neglected).
So raids vs WvW neglect is basicly like finding a crying baby with poop in his pants and then giving him a cigarette to stop the noise.
Also, the baby is on fire.
The lord scaling has nothing to do with your group so that zerker gear is irrelevant.
Keep/tower lords scale to ALL available players within a proximity of the keep/tower that extend beyond the outer walls. That means ALL friendlies, ALL enemies, ALL three servers.
So if there is a 50vs50vs50 in SM, the lord is scaled to 150 people. GG hearing the commander yell “wtf you noobs, we only need 5 people to kill him, why arent you killing him?!?!” when said 5 people has been bashing the lord for 3 minutes getting him down to 99.5% HP.
On the flipside, its a great early warning system. In a 5-10 group that got the lord down to 50% HP but suddenly the bar barely even move? A 40+ zerg just walked through the outer doors to defend the keep, gtfo the lords room.

Out of any necro/x combo vs other small groups its Reaper/Herald to be more exact. Its an impossible to beat combo when both are specced and played well.
One could argue that stealth give you an advantage (ie glass cannon dual thieves), but really, it doesnt. It only allow you to flee. Which isnt roaming, that’s cowardice.
^This guy is correct, the little stealthly skinny jean wearing kids play stealth escape classes and don’t stick around to get punched in the mouth. The best roaming partner I ever had was a guard. I typically play necro and the support + boons he fed was incredible. But honestly, it depends on the player IMO, not a specific class.
Well, personally I think it do depend on the class :p
A herald will feed better boons than a guard and will be tankier than a dragonhunter trapper (which is what the guard presumably will run) while having roflstomp damage. A trapper IMO is a predictable one trick pony, much like a thief. If you avoid the main trap, he melts.
In 20 hours, this thread has acquired 6 pages of replies with 99% of those replies all calling for Friday.
I do not know how much more clear we can be about this. WE WANT FRIDAY BACK!
Which coincidently match the response right after the reset change. 99% didnt want it changed. 99% still want it back. Go figure.

There is no need to consider any new times.
Just reverse it to pre-HoT fridays reset, period.
Its amazing that we even need a thread for it.
