PSA: Only you can prevent lord throws

I have seen this…..someone tries to solo lord at the start of the match…..fails…..runs back for second attempt, or third (all the while teammates are asking him/her not to)…..by the time the lord is actually defeated, the team is down 150-200 pts. So now the score is even or still down. And that player will say “the score is close because I am keeping us in it by killing lord”. But in reality the score is close because your team had to 4v5 while you were attempting lord, instead of helping them cap/defend.

Except if the enemy is foolish enough to 2v1 (or more) on lord, leaving the remaining 4 players to dominate all 3 caps. I’ve seen it happen quite a few times, its easy to tunnelvision an entire team. Well, a pug team at least. Leaving the team to 4v5 would be impossible, since anyone facing no enemies wouldnt need to run back – he’d kill the lord already.

MegaServers are not an easy fix

Still in the top selling mmo. They’ve fixed a tons of issues and their server system is far from a disaster, it’s perfect for WvW.

And at the same time impossible for WvW. The smaller amount of generated campaigns (effectivly a server choice) worked as a system because the map supported like 1800 players.

Ironically, the last time I read about AvA their “fix” was to reduce player cap to a third or something, lol.

Really, Anet already have the system sitting in front of them. On left hand side you got server based WvW with a population that no longer fill (or bother with) 4 maps. On right hand side you got instanced 3-faction WvW. Clap your hands hands together and make it one WvW – server based EBs with instanced borders. 24/7 PPT is only generated on EB while borders are 3h matchup that give your color a stacking boon (as in something like extra supplies, ppt bonus, etc, not a player boon) when a border is won.

The problems with the meta builds are, that these builds put you in one direction of gameplay. In the zergs I’ve run lately, many commander/lieutenants still haven’t accepted yet, that the reaper specialisation is a melee not a range class anymore (old meta). So they put them all together in one group without any guardian or a profession who gives stability, and then they wonder why either the reapers rage-quit or they lose fights. Seen lately 7 of 10 reapers left the raid within a minute, after a new lieutenant have changed the groups and fights which were won earlier went suddenly into a massacre of your own group. I didn’t stay long too, after the next lieutenant put all reapers into a group again. So, on a personal necromancer pov, not having HoT isn’t a problem.

Tell me about it, having the same problem on my scrapper

Regarding the topic at hand, if you roam then having HoT is a potentially big advantage over stock classes. Its not just “alternative” builds. Most are plain better. When zerging the difference is much more diffuse but even there some classes get a distinct advantage i HoT specs.

Gliding has absolutely nothing to do with the poor design – its all about the design of keeps and towers, their positions and how they connect to each other. It was completely sacrificed in favor of a big fancy map design and gimmicks.

There is exactly zero WvW flow on desert border and no amount of PvE gliding will improve that.

Friday Reset?

Actually, just to let you know, reset never was on Friday. Technically reset was SAT 00:00 UTC/GMT (which I could understand how it could be misconstrued as FRI, since this meant it was FRI for anyone in the USA [ex 18:00 hours(FRI) UTC-0600 {US Central}]). Then, if I’m not mistaken, it was moved to SAT 01:00, which would have been 19:00 UTC-0600(FRI). Now it’s 01:00 SUN, so it would fall at 19:00 UTC-0600(SAT).

I would not be opposed to them moving it back to 01:00 SAT – which would be FRIDAY 20:00(8p) Eastern, 19:00(7p) Central, 18:00(6p) Mountain, 17:00(5p) Pacific…

Friday reset was 18:00-19:00 GMT EU time depending on winter/summertime (though I may be an hour off, GMT confuse me). The move to Saturday was 24h forward.

From the reddit AMA on moving resets to Saturday:

“This is a conversation we’re going to need to have with y’all. We moved to Saturday because sometimes we do a build on Fridays and just about the time we wanted to activate the build was during the reset time. So we thought it would be better if there was no conflict in the timing of those things. Since people love Friday, but we might do a build on Friday, we need to talk about exactly what time of day would be good for the community, and then adjust based on that.”

So they still think maybe, sometimes having a new build on Fridays is worth losing probably 20% – 25% of weekly activity? Either they’re not being straightforward with the real reason reset is on Saturday, or they really don’t care about the loss of population.

The problem with this is that the saturday “solution” still make no sense whatsoever, especially since few patches on friday affected WvW (its all about enabling sPvP and PvE weekend events). Even if this was a concern (after 3 years for some reason) the answer was stupid simple – patch an hour earlier, dont patch 20 minutes after reset. Or even better – dont patch at all on friday unless its absolutely critical.

Anyone who is looking in BDO a substitute of WvW or PvP scenario will be hugely disappointed.
BDO PvP and GvG has everything to unbalance these games modes and make them utterly boring and disengaging.

Probably, but its enough to pull people away a month or two. One person leaving to BDO means another one in GW2 not being able to find anyone to fight or play with. Will some come back? No doubt they will. But the ones that left because the second reason I mentioned wont because they have given up on the game. Its simple as that.

After reading many post of this I have redefined my opinion about this.

I would agree side keeps WP can be held by whoever hold the keep, fortified. But Garrison should be only available by BL server.

This isnt an issue as getting a wp in an enemy garrison is almost impossible.

Haha wait I mean was on the old, perfectly functioning implementation where getting a waypoint was both a goal that caused intense fighting and an achievement.

So the game breaking FSP MonoBlob is moaning about nightcapping. When FSP plays I can’t even play during primetime, being in the same part of a map as your blob brings ping rates up into the 1000’s and now you say my gaming outside primetime should count for nothing. Dream on…..

Dream on is the proper words. FSP can barely gather 10 people primetime on a blue border commander because everyone is busy glorifying the fightserver on EB. Even EB is barely crowded outside reset night. 10-20 man queues in primetime the last week. A while ago that number was more like 40-70 and FSP faced far, far worse night cappers then.

Everyone is getting tired of the current WvW with desert border and there has been a major loss to BDO – a loss thats going to hit harder on servers with a larger PvP oriented population, compared to mindless blob servers. nightcapping may be a huge flaw in the scoring system but it is a minor factor in this.

I don’t understand where the waypoint changes came from. Was this a T1 suggestion? It discourages defense since paper keeps have them and it makes the map harder to traverse since they are restricted to certain teams.

No one knows. Its one of those “Anet mystery changes” that come out of nowhere with no explanation and are almost always broken in implementation.

This is why the so called WvW overhaul scare the living bejebus out of us.

At the end of the day the difference is what you as a player is worth. Ticking 50 points better than 2nd place when there are 800 people active in WvW doing PvE+PvP? Gratz, you are pretty much worthless individually but the server is still slowly winning. Ticking 600 points better than 2nd place when there are 20 people active in WvW doing only PvE? Gratz, you are all Batman level achievers.

Easy fix for megaservers revert back to the way it was BEFORE megaservers. the big issue of them is the fact serten dynamic events are always successfully competed making sertrn areas devoid of Enemies causing renown points to take forever to finish. (I am looking at you harathi hinterlands)

issue two is that if your on somthing that does not have a decent speed boost like a Guardian alot of times Dyn. events are done before you can reach them.

So what, you want people to be stuck on servers that have 6 people to do the tarir city metaevent or similar?

Hello death of anything but high pop servers (which then again wouldnt be so bad, the entire GW2 population can probably fit on 3-4 servers).

LOL…. Out of all the issues WvW has ppl are complaining about the completely irrelevant scoring system. Also BB’s dominance isn’t even as long as Deso or SFR when they held top spots.

I suppose your football team only plays good football for 15 mins, so all football matches should now only be 15 mins long….?

Get a grip people, improve the game mode and worry about the small intricacies later.

If you want a football comparison, how about this

15 people go out on the field and kick the ball into the goal. Good goal! Its still 0-0. Do it again! Oooooh that kick was great. Now its 0-0. The match is intense! And now the opponents get a goal in!!! The score is 0-0. Time for a break. Maybe after the break we can make that 0-0 a 0-0 instead.

The scoring system is one of the most important aspects of WvW no matter how many high horses the oh-we-are-fight-server people are trying to climb.

Guess it really is time for a WvW megaserver if your general opinion is that only a fully packed servers can win. There is pretty much no servers left that has players 24/7 – even those that can tick 650 during the night often have pathetic presence other times. If you “start gathering” people for nightcapping (you encourage it yet you say there is no such thing, lol) another server will be left without them instead. That’s where we are in the GW2 lifecycle. End of the road buddy. There is not enough players to balance the servers.

A well placed Shield Generator or two.

Once the core issues of WvW are fixed I’d kinda like siege to have a purpose and consequences like this with more emphasis on good placement and coverage of shields to increase effectiveness.

Thats ridiculous. Slapping siege on top of siege to prevent siege from destroying siege is not good, especially not if your answer is “get HoT or kitten off” when it comes to siegeing in addition to killing roaming and encouraging yet another power creep. Catas against the wall may not give an impressive siege, but being able to build them anywhere in range is a vital part to handle the current siege design.

I… honestly cant explain it since Conquest isnt the only PvP mode, there is TDM and Stronghold as well (technically also WvW which sPvP point based balance kittens up on a daily basis).

I dont care for smaller matches with 2v2, instead I miss the 8v8 Conquest mode we had in the beta. All they needed was a little bigger maps.

Well you know what the definition of insanity is: Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

You know after your second loss you could just relax, take a breather for an hour or two, then do another match. You might win.

I really dont understand people that keep bashing their heads against a brickwall. We already know that the sPvP population is relativly small and odds are that you meet the same people over and over. Letting the player base refresh will vastly improve your chances of breaking streaks. Getting more and more frustrated after each loss does not.

Why did they change the day? most unneccessery change ever.

The official excuse was HoT release and getting one extra day to fix broken things when they go live on fridays (ie patch activations).

The problem with this is that WvW rarely suffered this, because there are nearly zero weekend events. When there are, Anet doesnt fix it (see golem week). HoT release was big true and all of us would have accepted a few weeks of delayed resets. But Anet kept WvW in a broken state anyway so that excuse also falls hilariosly flat.

In short, the reason they changed reset is sPvP tournaments and PvE events because kitten WvW.

This is at the heart of the matter. The real solution is to drop the concept of regional servers if possible. Then full map coverage becomes a trivial issue.

And instead, latency become a major issue.

Elder Scrolls Online did this. Well actually they said that EU and NA was separate at launch and then when players caught on the truth it was like “oh right we forgot about that, you are all playing on US servers” followed by months of silence.

ESO AvA was kitten in the EU. Unplayable lagfests. And guess how hard the game bombed? Yeah. Regional servers are needed.

Yes well if you have that limited time you should have learned to reduce risk by going to the bathroom 6 minutes earlier, before you started queueing the next match. Worst case scenario, your play time that evening would have lasted 1 minute longer.

The only excuse I guess is if you have a maximum time of 6 minutes between having to run to the bathroom, in which case I recommend keeping a bottle nearby because sPvP is going to be hard.

Coverage is a server issue and not A-Nets problem. Get some guilds or be content where you are.

By that same logic the sPvP MMR is a player issue and not Anets problem. Get a group or be content where you are, haha. I’d love to tell everone that whine on the PvP forum that, unfortunetly we know that Anet will try to fix that kitten anyway just to placate players.

But granted, I get your point. We might as well just kitten WvW and only play EoTM – at least there the unbalanced maps only last 3 hours before its reshuffled. No need to even try to improve WvW and make it less dependant on coverage.

Whether it’s your fault or not, this is likely to result in you getting killed over and over again, and not being able to accomplish much of anything the entire match, These are, while rare, in my experience the absolute worst kind of match.

Probably some of the most common kind of matches in my experience. People have a tendancy to completely tunnelvision on points and while the fighting can be great, all they do is feed hundreds of points by getting killed one by one. SPvP isnt about “fair” duels, its all about tactics and having the right player in the right place at the right time. And yes, sometimes that include going 5v2 or whatever.

It is extremely difficult to get 2 teams of 5 people in the solo que to coordinate and work together. There is always that one idiot that thinks they can solo far. This makes it almost impossible to string together the multiple win streaks you need to progress tiers.

Solo queue? What solo queue? There is no solo queue. There is only queuing as a 1 man incomplete party. And there’s only one person that can be faulted for doing that I’m afraid.

ps – in the future, you may want an off site forum dedicated to wvwrs …..this forum is way too strict to let that aspect grow. Ever since i can remember, trash talk and flame posts have been a part of competitive guild pvp – when the dust settles, it turns into some serious rpg – stronger than the pve areas. Anet pretty much squelched that part with the tos on the main site, which is understandable….as a rowdy pvp crew scares pvers away…which is not good for business..

But stopping pvprs from fighting – in game or on forum….is counter productive …we fight ..that’s what we do …and we do eventually work it out…I’ve seen it happen time and time again…..some of the strongest communities I’ve been a part of, had the most intense fights I’ve ever seen on the net lol…..it’s just part of the culture and you shouldn’t stop it, just keep it out of your backyard lol. :p

the staffers in the more popular games of yester year I was with, would simply only jump in on things like personal threats, and hacking…..they kept out of the trash talk fights….in fact some of them made alts so they could join in the bantering lol!!

There was a time where being accused of being a hacker was an honor , especially if you weren’t hacking…legend has it that good trash talk adds +5 power to your weapons :p

They had a WvW matchup forum here once. It was shut down. Not going to happen again.

PD: Anything can be compared, and are good if you understand what it is comparing. You can and cannot compare a human and a dog. Both are animals, so they share basic needs. Dogs cannot think, so they cannot be compared.

How about better thought and interaction with the NPC population?

How to capture a keep:

1. Talk with the outer NPC guards, butter them up with some gold and get them to agree that your color is better than their color. If you have previously kidnapped a dolly you can choose to threaten them instead (note, the last action require you to run back to the camp and free the dolly, otherwise the outer guards may give your position away).

2. The inner guards are much more difficult. They want you to win 3 times in a row in a playing card minigame. If you fail you have to bribe them. Success rate depends on how flashy your gear looks. Legendaries will impress them, as will dancing.

3. The keep lord challenge you to keg brawl in the lords room. You need at least 5 players in order to match the lord and his guards (if enemy players are defending, they will take the guards place). If you loose, the way you succeeded in getting through to the lord determine if they will give you a second chance, other wise the guards will throw you out.

OP dragged in time and timezones into the argument. Fail from the get go as that have nothing to do with nightcapping.

Nightcapping/daycapping/offtime score abusing/whatever the hell you want to call it can only be balanced by taking into account currently active WvW population. It wouldnt need any rework of the scoring system other than a percentage multiplier (if you want straight up percentage calculation, like 10% population would cap PPT at 10% value) or a multi-stage multiplier (“low”, “medium”, “high”, like how server population does it).

1. The RNG starts from 0 each time: players would start to see patterns emerging in their loot drops, patterns that repeat every time they log in if they if they go to the same areas each time.

Well this does exist, but as I said DR is sporadic and unpredictable at best (DR being the droprate reduction which GW2 employs).

You can see the pattern if you do any event. I have logged on, instantly gone to do the melandru event and for the first couple of minutes you get a couple yellows and green… 8-9 out of 10 items being something other than greys. Then shortly after it start to go blue and then a few minutes later after that – right about the time the defense event start it will just cut right out – spikes, greys and nearly nothing else. Just grey kitten and maybe 1 out of 10 things being the “rare” blue. That’s really heavy handed and noticable DR.

If you dont see this… Congrats you got a lucky account, lol.

I dont know. Why are you?

I thought the point of sPvP ranked matches was to gather 5 man groups and play good to win against other 5 man groups, whereas unranked was for the disorganized mob that solo/duo etc. If your group is new to the game or not experienced to PvP… that may just be the reason for failing.

Or does ranked support solo queue only now? Dont get me wrong because that would be awesome (I have no friends) but last time I checked it didnt.

There is no such thing as unlucky or lucky accounts. There is nothing in your account that dooms you to bad RNG and nothing in your friend’s account that blesses their account with good RNG.

Actually they where proven to exist early on. Accounts that could solo events and still got only got bronze achievement and kitten loot. Anet didnt admit they existed and swept it under the rug.

But either way, we know that RNG and DR has been broken since launch, especially DR. You can log on, go to Orr and do a single event for a couple of minutes and during that event suffer very noticable DR (that will stick when your character moves to another zone) – Anet has always said thats impossible, its supposed to take a while before it happens. Then of course another day you can log on and get great loot for 30 minutes across 3 zones.

Reducing AoE Radius

As it stands the CC blankets such a large area it is impossible to escape it hence pirate ship.

Reducing the radius would just make the pirate ship bring even more ranged and throw out the “poor” classes in order to adapt (ie instead of the backline being 10 necros + 10 randoms commanders are gonna say 20 necros or gtfo). Its not gonna solve anything.

Allowing melee to better walk over cc blankets for in your face combat is a much safer bet to reduce pirateshipping and bring back some selfbalance.

If the summer disaster that was WvW Golem Week didnt give you a strong enough indication, the HoT WvW update proved that Anet Q&A does not exist. The update broke WvW objective walls and it took them several months and about five patches stating the walls had been fixed before it was finally fixed.

It was actually quite disapointing and disturbing to see because Anet otherwise has a pretty good record with fixing things they break.

As someone who is personally fights oriented, I like ppk. What I would like changed is for kills with siege to not count for it, because siegehumping needs to be nerfed not encouraged, its a plague and ruins wvw.

I think it would be better if siege damage against players was heavily decreased in favor of siege being more focused on causing aoe condi/CC. Implementing what you’re asking for sounds far more difficult in terms of coding.

I think ac’s for example should have their damage against players reduced by like 50% but against siege increased, there should be a reduction in the amount of players that can be hit per skill 50 is ridiculous, more supply required for each, and an actual siege cap per raidus that actually works. There are already condi/cc skills for siege, and theres to much of that crap going on in regular skills anyways.

But anyways, one person being able to build an ac thats out of hittable range that can technically hit an entire zerg with skills that effect 50 people is absolutely ridiculous and counter productive to things like ppk and the new rez changes. Abusing siege does not promote healthy gameplay.

That make absolutely no sense whatsoever since AC arent exactly designed to take down siege. It would just make a pincushion out of them.

If anything, AC fire rate should be reduced to around 20% of what it is today and siege damage should be exactly zero. The damage otherwise can remain.

Perhaps, but if its balanced for sPvP, it completely kitten over WvW and vice versa.

Well actually not vice versa, Anet only balance for sPvP and always kitten over WvW.

Hm not really that either since kittening over WvW doesnt even involve class balance, Anet just likes to do it in general.

But you get the point. SPvP cant be balanced when its affected by the other competetive PvP mode thats not built around bunkering on a 2m wide circle to win.
