Probably one of the best thiefs I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with.
I love that this thread is still going on.
Contemplating coming back for this very reason… tournaments (while new) have given me renewed curiosity regarding this game.
But you quit. Here’s proof: http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/c/2075636
2 Months ago getting frustrated with the lack of Warrior changes.
Then they make Warrior changes.
Arena Net fulfills the requirement of why I left. It’s only logical to test the new changes to see if they are a valid reason to keep playing.
I’m not entirely convinced yet, but I’m keeping it as a possibility.
You should probably make a video of you reinstalling and make a post about it then.
Maybe I will and then you can watch it and comment on it on the forums.

Personally, I play the classes I find the most rewarding.
A lot of classes are very straight forward and have an ‘advantage’ when it comes to skills and balance.
Warriors may not be the best but there have been a handful of Warrior players who have been successful in the tournament scene. It’s an uphill battle and requires a lot more situational awareness than other classes – but it’s doable.
Play what you like, the rest will follow suit.

To make this trait, combine “Missile Deflection” and “Shield Mastery” into a single trait. Just call that “Shield Mastery” and move that down.
Indomitable:
Each time you get a bar of adrenaline, you convert one condition into a boon.
This is quite possibly the best suggestion made on the Warrior forums to date.

List is now updated on the OP. Previous list preserved for comparison.
A couple user submitted lists that were posted for this iteration were omitted due to not following the required format.
Things to take away from the new list:
-Meteoric rise of rangers.
-Warriors perception / usefulness has improved but not yet on-par with other classes. (this is a step in the right direction. Thank you ArenaNet for your help!).
-Ele’s took a slight hit.
Personally I believe this patch was a great first step towards true balance.
I may even consider giving GW2 another shot in a couple/few months if they can keep up balance patches like this one.
Going to update the list now. Any additional lists will be pushed to the next iteration.
I know everyone’s getting a little passionate regarding reasons why classes are doing well / not. But for the sake of the thread please do your best not to derail the conversation or the inherent goal that the thread is trying to achieve.
Thanks!
Pretty sure the problem has always been attack speed and lack of movement skills. Everything else about the weapon is pretty darn good tbh.
I’ll update the list on Friday. Give people time to come in and revise / add their thoughts.
(edited by Defektive.7283)
Sig of Might is the largest and most important change out of all of those.
do me a favor and put spacing between each skill update? hard to read but thanks!
Should have changed Brawn to be the 30pt F1 CD / Cost, and gave us a new 30pt.
Boon hate makes no sense in the core mechanic of warrior gameplay.
Hello Defektive
Thx for sharing your build , I’m a warrior and I started playing just recently , I’ve been using GS/LB since my first day finding it the most viable too but my build is abit different from yours. But I noticed something in your build , since it uses Bow’s F1 alot (which uses up all adrenaline) is it still wise to keep “Berserker’s Power” and “Heightened Focus” (STR , V and Disc V) ?
Because when Longbow F1 crits (often and on multiple targets) you regain essentially all of your adren. Thus Berserkers Power / Heightened focus have an uptime close to 100%.
This is only true in teamfights on a capture point (Foefire map not included since the ca kitten o wide). Personally I drop the Strength tree in this build, and grab the longbow range trait in Tactics – also turns your #1 and #2 into a combo finisher, reapplying that fire condition like mad. It allows me to 1v1 a lot of guardians, since they like to stand on the capture point like it’s religion.
Warriors aren’t a fantastic 1v1 class, if your in a tPvP team setting you’re roaming with 1-2 other people. supporting fights of 2v2+. Longbow range isn’t going to help that much when it comes down to it.
in SOTG they said it would be unblockable. So in theory it coulod miss.
Just like Necromancer Marks or Engineer Throw Mines.
Yea that could put a damper on its usefulness. I think it’s going to come down to how the dev team in the past has described things.
They could mean unblockable meaning nothing can stop it (thus mitigating blinds and blocks). Or unblockable meaning it can only go through Blocks.
The new defense trait is pretty good but it doesn’t fix any of the inherent condition problems Warriors have.
The 30pt talent for boon hate is uninventive. Warriors don’t need more damage, they need more utility. More unique things that set them apart. Thiefs already deal the highest damage, attempting to push us into that space while at the same time saying they want thieves to rule that niche is counter productive.
Wait now I don’t remember if sig of might just made it so you can’t MISS or if it made it that you could do damage through a Block.
Can someone enlighten me?
EDIT: nope im correct it makes attacks unblockable.
That’s a game changer people.
(edited by Defektive.7283)
I would probably drop it for signet of might actually (no blocks).
goal being pop sig of might, place F1 and do a #3, now no bunker can mitigate damage.
TBH the sig of might change is probably the biggest change to warriors out of everything.
Every annoyingly hard to kill class you can get low but then they pop some long duration block skill that just resets the fight. Think of Sig of Might like Chaos Bolt for warlocks (WoW). A high damage attack that went through shields (and at one point, invulnerability shields).
Pair it with stuns or some form of burst and I think it could potentially mitigate bunker madness.

just come back and try it by yourself.
I will never understand those ones “quitting” on a B2P game.
bah.
he cant, he even made a video of him quiting. now he has to be all like “hrm, yeah guys, is the game better now? someone check and tell me please because i made such a fuss that i was quiting that i cant come back now without making myself look like a shallow whiner”.
No it’s more like this:
I invested a good bit of time into creating builds, testing builds, and forging friendships. If a new patch is coming out, and I’ve invested a bunch of time in the past to produce a deliverable then it only serves to followup on its progress.
Simply reminding people of its existence, pointing to patch changes and asking someone to followup should not be considered a method to get around ‘whining’.
If you have a baby and let it into the open world you don’t forget about it. You monitor, cultivate and shape to benefit the changing landscape.
Bumping this because:
New changes directly benefits this build even further. New 30pt disc talent just makes this stronger.
Recommend any Warrior whose still playing this game to give it a shot and report back (if you can, I’d appreciate it).
Danke.

Please consider the following thoughts from a friend / competitive tPvPer who isn’t allowed to post on the forums anymore:
"
1) Dealing damage as a Warrior
DPSing in PvP requires you to INCAPACITATE your enemy. But because of the spammable dodge/evade frames/skills as well as the game allowing 3 stun breaks for utilities – trying to DPS as a Warrior(stun/immobilize/etc) is just plain unforgiving.
Take a Mesmer match-up for example. We go through all the work to get a shield bash or a skull crack, but then he can still DPS through my stuns with shatters and use Staff to stun break away indefinitely. Not to mention getting ANOTHER incapacitate becomes near impossible when staff gives Aegis, Protection, and clones can block Bolas. Mesmers can DPS while staying in a Warriors deadzone. I can say the same thing about Guards, Elementalists, Rangers and Thieves to be honest but lets face it, we’re at a distinct disadvantage.
DPSing in PvP as a Warrior is not a forgiving experience for new and competitive players alike. It would be great if incapacitating was easier or limiting the amount of stun breaks that a class could have to only one (This could effectively solve the “bunker problem” too).
2) F1 mechanic: ADRENALINE SCARCITY
Why do Warriors have to reach 3 bars of adrenaline to make use of the full effect? Adrenaline gain per attack is minimal unless traited for increased adrenaline gain. It makes some weapons and weapon sets unappealing because of how scarce adrenaline is. Sometimes in the middle of a fight we can only make use of a level 2 skull crack or eviscerate. The difference between a Level 2 and level 3 skull crack is a immense, yet the adrenaline gained is scarce. If the scarcity would just disappear then maybe more build diversity will come out.
Personally, I don’t mind losing out on Berserker’s Power from time to time in order to make the full effect of F1 skills more accessible. It isn’t fun knowing that we can’t make use of the full effect 100% of the time while other classes have access to their full effect F1s on a consistent basis.
3) Movement impairment.
As was said before, DPSing as a Warrior is unforgiving. When coupled with the sheer amount of slows and immobilizes it begs the question to look at the existing skills and traits and restructure them. Having one off, high cooldown immobilize removals (Lyssa, Restorative Strength for example), doesn’t provide the class with utility to escape situations or stick to a target. Making Restorative Strengh baseline or buffing traits such as Mobile Strikes more effective would go a long way to help solving this problem.
4) Traits
Why is leg specialist on 10 points in tactics? DPS Warrior lose out A LOT on those 10 points that could have been placed somewhere else. Warriors rely on INCAPACITATION to deal consistent damage. This brings to mind restructuring Leg Specialist to make it a more forgiving trait to pick up specifically for the DPS minded.
When you take into account such traits as 3% burst damage for 30 points in Discipline it really starts to show the cracks in Warrior builds. Redoing traits, moving traits around so they work well with a wider variety of builds is just the first step to fixing the Warrior. Adding on more damage dealt via Boon Hate or giving Banners +70 stats won’t help to solve any problems
Thank you for your time.

There was once a man named Jonathan Sharp.
He said, “Soon.”
And, at first, we all swooned.
But then, as time passed,
The devs became relaxed,
And we knew no good patches
Would come to pass.

My Hammer Sword/Warhorn tPvP build for reference.

Will update this list later today with the numerous new responses around 6-7pm eastern.
I would like to remind posters that this list is focused around the Tournament structure and usefulness/how WANTED these classes are for a team. The want / usefulness is decided on overall class ability in a Tournament setting.
This PvP build is still viable in the current Meta simply because it wasn’t affected by Frenzy. You can also probably work a banner in (for whatever reason) or Kick if you want to be goof around.
My tPvP Longbow build is also still viable since it didn’t focus on Frenzy nearly as hard as it does with Longbow:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Defektive-s-tPvP-Longbow-GS-Warrior-Build/first
What about your hammer build?
Also still viable considering it wasn’t focused around Frenzy.
You could probably even work a banner into it if you wanted to drop something like bullscharge or sig of stam (not recommend).

(edited by Defektive.7283)
Those are a lot of assumptions, all false mind you, but just wanted to point out your sad attempt to make me angry lol
Anyway, as I said just previously I do see how LB could compliment the 100B build, my point was just that I don’t see how it makes sense to have a secondary solely for one skill, LB5 that is (I’m not counting the AoE field cause in a 100B build you have zero condition damage, so most people could stand through the AoE field on not worry too much about it, to a degree ofc).
Also I never said anything about hammer, I freaking love the hammer, my favorite weapon and I wish they’d buff it slightly (some how make it so it isn’t ruined by blinds…. :P), so continue on with your GS/hammer build, I really couldn’t care less lol
You haven’t tried the GS/LB build then have you?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Defektive-s-tPvP-Longbow-GS-Warrior-Build/first
Basically, you don’t care for condi damage in this build for a reason. The more crit damage and +Power / +Damage you have, the better this build is.
Longbow F5 has a critical strike application to it that doesn’t get it’s bonus from condi damage, but from +critical / +power. With this build it can crit between 1000-1400 per tick. Overall damage we’re talking about 7-10k per player whose in the AoE field.
Longbow #3 has the potential to crit between 6-9k in an AoE and is extremely easy to get off with the help of pindown.
Couple this with GS mobility and that whirlwind is still very strong, I reckon it’s probably the only viable build right now for tPvP since the build does not focus on 100b.
Based on the current patch, I would say this is probably the only remaining viable build for s/tPvP if the Warrior whose using it focus’s more on the LB side for burst and using GS Whirlwind to finish off an opponent (focusing less on 100b).
… LB is a great tpvp weapon…
It’s massive, point clearing aoe damage, and #5 can be used for a full duration HB without frenzy.
It’s a waste, why have one AoE clearing ability when you could just get or play a Necro or Trap Ranger? It falls behind in every aspect.
5 is nice since the buff, that’s true, but I still feel it’s gimping yourself just to try and get a full 100B off.
GS/LB is a legitimate tournament build. Many good tPvP warriors run this / prefer this over axe-sword/shield simply because they can put down a lot of burst and spike damage from a relatively safe distance.
Latest tier list has been updated. I will be doing on-going updates as more posts come in.
Optionally, I have also left in place the previous tier list so people can compare lists and see how classes stack up before and after a patch.
From the preliminary look of the list, most classes that had on-demand access to haste took a direct hit and moved down on the list. Classes that benefited from being burst down less often were bumped up the list.
T1: mace/axe kick double banner warrior and minion necro, turret engies
T2:engi, mesmer, thief, guardian, ranger
worst tier: eledeal with it
Fixed.
Fixed.
We’re going to be working on a lot of Warrior stuff in the coming patches. But will we be changing things, in the OP’s words, “in a few days”? Nope. We have to wait for patches to move through the system of developing content, refining it, iterating on it, getting it tested, and then getting pushed to live.
Warriors are very strong in PvE, and they’re struggling in PvP – we know this. Contrary to popular belief, we play our game, in all formats, and we talk to player experts in all formats. We also read the forums.
But that doesn’t mean we’re going to throw knee-jerk/reactive changes based on any piece of feedback we receive. As we’ve said NUMEROUS times, we’re doing slow tweaks so that we don’t have to do whack-a-mole balance.
Just because things don’t happen “in a few days” doesn’t mean they’re not happening!
You know, I understand your point from all perspectives.
But then I remember the many Warrior players who now have to endure being a second rate ‘citizen’ in PvP until you decide to push a patch through.
Now, prove me wrong but ArenaNet patches don’t come out ‘lickity split’. While you don’t have something lined up tomorrow, that also means we won’t have something for another 2-3 weeks+.
From a professional standpoint, I don’t break one part of a clients application in favor of improving another. If I released the application and I broke something – then I work overtime to bring it back into line.
Thus, from my perspective, you broke something in favor of fixing another portion – and now have blatantly stated that we’re at your mercy of ‘soon’.
My customer’s would be throwing a fit right now.
They just moved this topic in here (from general chat), when the point of the topic was to get everyone PvE, WvW and sPvP on the same page.
It’s like they didn’t even read the post.

Trolling the devs helps no one.
Edit: To make it clear what I am referring to.
Thanks Jon, does that mean you’re giving banners another +20 stats?
I was being serious! I don’t think buffing usability or ingenuity of skills is the right way to make significant changes. I firmly believe that adding stats to existing skills is the sure fire way to bring exciting change to the ever evolving landscape of the s/tPvP meta!
scrap the class and start fresh in the morning when the hangover subdues.
Thanks Jon, does that mean you’re giving banners another +20 stats?
how mature…. you may be completely right about how warriors stand right now, but that just makes you look like an immature fool. specially with something that is so ever-changing like classes op/upness in mmos. as far as you know, in 2/3 months from now warriors will be the top dog in the game (and they will ofcourse receive improvements in the future, like all classes in mmos receive from time to time)…
You obviously haven’t been reading what the Devs have been saying regarding Warriors and balance improvements for the last few months. So maybe this video courteous of How I Met Your Mother will help you understand the sentiments found within these here forums.
Enjoy.
Thanks Jon, does that mean you’re giving banners another +20 stats?
