Disappointed at AP rewards.

Demented Sheep.1642

Can’t say I particularly like the aesthetic of the AP stuff so it’s a bit disappointing but other people do like it. If you don’t like them don’t go for them .Sure I guess your “forced to unlock skins you don’t even want” but why is this an issue? its sits in your achievement panel and harms nothing. It doesn’t even take up inventory space.

The skins aren’t all you get either. I never farmed the points; it’s a bonus for doing what I was going to do anyway.

I don’t know why people on this forum seem to get so kitten y if a reward is something they can’t use or don’t like. Other people play this game to. Not everything is going to be tailored to your taste.

Begging for Mesmer Portals in JP's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

I don’t really see an issue with it. Possibly because I’m a GW1 player and use to run people and this isn’t all that different.
I don’t do a JP on Mesmer specifically to port people unless a friend asks but if I get to the top I drop a portal for anyone who is there happens to want it. I don’t particularly care if they get the achievement without really doing the JP and I like helping people who genuinely stuck (not so much those who beg for a portal before even trying). I prefer to do the puzzles myself most of the time but will use a portal if its one there and it’s really giving me trouble.

Screaming at people to purposefully throw games for achievements is kittenty though. Its not like you need all achievements for LS skins.

PvE'ers: What would it take...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Demented Sheep.1642

Well I can’t really WvW due to lag and that’s not likely to change anytime soon.

I might be more inclined to pop over regardless if you could change between a PvE and a WvW build without having to go reset traits since the builds I use for PvE don’t really work so well in against actual players.

I think I’ll roll an engineer instead.

Don’t give up on them so easy. Mesmer takes some getting use to and it’s fairly weak at low levels but they are very powerful and fun class once your traits start to come together.

That’s about how I feel at the moment and is the main reason my thief is not really my main anymore though It might be just because I’ve not learnt to properly utilize my thief and know they have a bad reputation so get kinda self conscious about doing badly with them. Whenever I dungeon with my thief I feel like I’m only there to save downed players. I feel more useful on a Ele or Mesmer. I guess I’ll try some of the tips in this thread.

Temporary content. Your thoughts?

in Living World

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Not really a fan of it myself. I tend to be pretty on and off player. I play quite a lot for a month or so and then I’ll have study or some new games or just not feel like playing and stop for a few months and then get back to playing.
But come back after a few months and there isn’t anything thing new to do. Of course there WAS new content but they’ve already removed it so I can’t play it.
I think they should make the dungeons and story instances repeatable. Maybe have something like they scrying pool in eye of the north or an npc to re activate them so they don’t clutter the map.
Having temporary flavor stuff around the open maps when the event is current is cool though.

I’ve not played much of them so maybe kits make up for it but the engineer weapons selection seem woefully small.

Would like another weapon for my Mesmer. Everyone says it and I agree they need a MH pistol.

Ele could use a long range non aoe field based weapon. Yes ele has 4 attunements swaps so a ton of skills already but you need to be swapping to use the weapon effectively. Its not really switching playstyles.

Guardian could use a long range weapon.

I just can’t see taking it over thieves guild though…like EVER. And as far as timing goes, it takes a whole second just to cast. So you’re locked up for a second, to lock up your enemy for a second and a half….makes no sense to me at all. I think it’s a very weak elite.

You use it before a fight or you apply it again while stealthed. Its so you can lock your target down right at start and land your burst…at least that’s how I’ve use it. I’m not particularly into PvP so I’m not an expert.
Seems kinda useless for PvE though

What kind of armor do you like?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Generally I like the more…grounded armour I guess? I don’t know really know how to describe what I like. I like a lot of the medium armours (on non Charr because of clipping and yes they could use some more variation) and I often like a bit of asymmetry.
Although the Sylvari plant armour is awesome and I liked the Charr concept art Armour.
I don’t often like special effects, random massive spikes or when it’s so massive your characters starts looking like their part gorilla or “skimpy” armour.

I would like to see more pants or shorts for light armor for both male & female, i have 2 norn female characters that wear light armor & for the most part i dislike skirts so pants would be good.

Also some thing like this would be nice for light armor

I really want that armour for my guild wars 2 mes and yes pants would be good. I’m sad it wasn’t that armour for the cash shop light armour.

To use as a random example because I saw it recently this is quite nice to me.

What class maps best to which race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Human pretty much fits everything. They basically have a god that matches them all apart from engineer.

Elementalist: Norn, Asura
Engineer: Charr, Asura kind of but they seem more magic tech and the aesthetic matches the Charr more
Guardian: Sylvari maybe, but they seem like mostly a human class
Mesmer: Sylvari, Asura
Necromancer: Sylvari, Asura. I for some reason have always associated the Sylvari with Mes and necro despite the cheerful innocents (even before I knew about
Traherne). It just matches plant people to me though I think Syl necros are actauly meant to be rare.
Ranger: Norn, Sylvari
Thief: Charr, Sylvari
Warrior: Charr, Norn.

Is Scorpion Pull at all useful?

in Thief

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

I tried using it but its seems pretty buggy. A lot of the time it doesn’t actually pull even though there doesn’t appear to be anything in the way. It could still be used as short knockdown I guess.
If it did work it might be useful (though not a every situation kinda skill). When I read the description I had intended to use it for pulling enemies and keeping them off teammates, pulling enemies into traps and for preventing escapes but it’s not reliable at all and the cooldown imo feels a bit to long..

I love my staff, it’s just a group originated weapon rather than one you would use for soloing. I’m not saying it can’t be improved but I think it should sty primary a group support weapon. I see no issue with having weapons designed for different situation and there is no rule saying a mage class has to be long range. They just have to be primarily based around using magic. What other games do dose not matter. You might not like how they play but then you should pick a different class.

I think if they are going to make of the rewards largely cosmetic they should give you a way to collect them as well rather than just having them sitting in your bank. Like the prestige weapon, armour and trophy display in the GW1 HoM. They could perhaps add something like this to your home instance. That would help make it feel more like a goal to work towards.

L2P reply is insulting…

I wouldn’t say that the game needs a gear treadmill for power, but it definitely needs something that you can build from.

I agree with both those things.

To people jumping on the guy telling him to go back to WoW: I like players in my game, please stop telling them to leave for having a different opinion.

I think there needs to be something that is not a treadmill but a fun and unnecessary mechanic, such as being able to level an alt while using your main character. Or another might be like a “legendary” mode or something where you can set your character back to level 1 but with the same stats as before (basically for achievements and titles) kind of like Prestige in Call of Duty.

No one actually jumped on him and told him to go back to WoW and I clarified what I meant in another post.

I would be perfectly fine with the whole no new stats, just skins thing, if there were more to chose from. Theres so little per armor type. And most of it looks very basic and dont look very unique or different from each other. At least for me as an asura, anyway. The only ones that really stand out are the CoF CoE and Arah ones. And everyone has them.

Now that I agree with, more skins and ones that are harder to obtain would nice.

Yes, im not saying that my suggestion has to be implemented that EXACT way, but just something along these lines to give you that progressing feeling in some way other than looks

You can’t really just have stronger gear as optional extra unless the difference is miniscule, especially not with WvWvW.

Yes you can, its been like that since level 1. If A level 20 joins wvw, they are scaled to 80, but are at a huge disadvantage because of their gear, now if you’re at a gear disadvantage the entire time from 1-80. Why would it matter if some level 80s are at a gear disadvantage as well.

You don’t play WvWvW at level 20 if you want to be competitive at it. You add in extra gear and now not only do you have to get to 80 and get your exotics to be competitive you now have to re-gear again and again every time they release a new gear teir and forget having multiple build and alts because you have spend so much time getting gear.

Isnt that already what everyones doing? With the release of ascended items?

Yes and its annoying which is why I hope they stop it there and make ascended the final cap on gear before you get to the point where the amount of work you need for top tier gear is so much and so long it’s restricting.

That probably came across as more aggressive than I intended. I didn’t mean "l2P as in “you suck, go L2P newb”. I meant it as in learning how to use your class and coordinate with others is how you get stronger and take on harder content not stat increases.
You can have goals to work for outside of stats. Yes, guild wars could use some more end game goals like achievements and titles.

Well I like to collect things so I miss my HoM and my Menagerie. I guess the home instance was to act like the HoM but never got there?

I miss being able to be a proper minion master raising and maintaining my own army of undead created from the corpses of my enemies. The guild wars 2 necromancer just doesn’t have that feeling.

I miss hunting down some elusive boss in the middle of nowhere to cap his skill though I don’t know if this would cause balance issues.

Charr are pretty much ripped straight from the Tauren of WoW. And I’m pretty sure they are one of the more unpopular races in that game. Not sure why a developer would choose to make that a playable race. A better alternative would have been Ogres. Again, you want more people to play your game then give them cool races that they want to be. Who wants to be a cow?

How on earth charr like Tauren? they both have horns and ears that are kinda similar I guess… that’s it. They certainly aren’t cows.

in Ranger

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

I started playing ranger fairly recently so I’m only level 40 but one of things that is annoying me is how hard it is too keep track on the buffs and effects on your pet. Unless I’m being dumb and missing something (which is always a possibility) you have to select your pet to see what they are.
If the icons for the buffs your pet are under appeared above the pet bar (though shrunken so it doesn’t take up to much space) it would make it much more convenient. I suppose it doesn’t really matter when you get your build down but when your crafting a build this would let you see what it is actually happening with it.

Do others find this annoying or is it a non issue for most of you?

why does everyone hate trahearne?

in Lore

Demented Sheep.1642

I don’t particularly like him but I don’t really hate him. He has yet to tell me how unwise it would be to face an army of charr directly only too immediately yell “For Ascalon!!” and runs straight into the middle of said charr army getting himself killed and failing the mission so he miles ahead of Prince Rurik at least. People complain about Trahearne dying a lot but he didn’t with me. He was actually fairly useful as a distraction. Although “this won’t end well” got annoying. Thanks for the vote of confidence mate!

He pops out of nowhere if you aren’t a Syl and his opening on claw island which I think was suppose to establish that he could be a leader and knows what he is doing kind of just made everyone else seem stupid instead but maybe that’s just me. Despite his knowledge or Orr it seems like someone with military and leading experience would be better to lead and army than him. Then again I guess he really just needs to be neutral to stop the orders from kittening and know how to listen and weigh up options that specialists give him. He seems kinda “sueish” I guess, you just have to accept that he has connections with everyone.
Some don’t like him because he steals their thunder and story revolves around him during the second half (though the end is around DE). I personally don’t care about that. I think its better story wise to have it that way rather than to try and revolve it around a player character and you are still the big hero. I didn’t hate Kormir either who got the same complaint.

in Lore

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Well I would Love to play a Centaur but that isn’t ever going to happen. Everything would just be too difficult. Armour, animations…could you imagine one of them trying to do a jumping puzzle? Or performing death blossom? Charr feel a little too slow when they run, a centaur would be far worse for that.

A Naga/ forgotten/Krait like race would be cool as well but have the same issue centaur have. I don’t really see any race that doesn’t have two arms and two les working in an mmo that isn’t a click to move where you can’t jump, swim or climb

I would also love to play a tengu and fortunately that one is very likely!

The most likely races to become playable are Tengu and Largos. I’m not sold on Largos but an underwater city could be awesome. Kodan are another that might become playable although it might be a challenge to give distinct appearance options to a polar bear race.
