Does anyone use the Charr recial elites?

Demented Sheep.1642

Not really. I only use the Charrzooka when screwing around. Warband Support is useless on a thief since its pretty much a crappier version of thieves guild and Atillery Barrage just doesn’t seem very good.
But then the only racial elite that gets much use from me are the human ones on my mes for pve.

How can Sylvari be Necromancers?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Necromancers in GW deal with death and sprits but aren’t evil by defult. Often the necromancer NPC’s seem to be caretakers of the dead, taking care of burial rights or protecting and putting spirits to rest. Besides which I don’t know that a race of linked plant people would necessarily be hung up over the idea of “repurposing” a dead body. Would they consider it defiling or simply not being wasteful? Copses do after all make great fertiliser, life springs for death, the cycle continues and all that jazz.
It also something they don’t have a lot experience with so makes sense that some would want to study.

I guess having more options like a cutesy option is a bad thing for female charrs huh?

Go figure..so much for creativity X)

You shouldn’t be adding option that clash with lore of the race and are they going to start adding cute faces to the men as well then?

In the vast majority of media non human females are either "cute’ or humans with accessories (and often using “non human culture” as an excuse for them to be promiscuous and not wear much). I would really rather they keep the cute out of the Charr.

Yeah, basically it suck for both sides. Ascalon may have been Charr land once but the humans living there at the time weren’t the ones who drove the Charr out. To them they were just deafening their home. Same thing applies to the Charr.
I don’t really care which race had the land first or which has committed the most atrocities against the other over the years. If someone is to be punished it should be based on what they did, not there ancestor and not a collective punishment for an entire race.

Odd Race/Profession Combinations

Demented Sheep.1642

Charr Guardian isn’t uncommon but it seem kind of weird. I know the faith thing doesn’t have to be based on gods, they could have faith in in their warband or something but the description of the skills and the stuff they say just seems weird for a Charr. Asura Warriors and Guardian too tho they are funny to watch.

These combos would seem weird to me:

Asura- Warrior, Guardian
Norn- Thief, Mesmer, Necro, Engineer, Male Elementalist
Charr- Mesmer, Thief, Necro
Human- None
Sylvari- Engineer

Why is Charr thief odd? they have the ash legion which presumably is mostly made up of thieves or similar…or do you just mean what they look like?

Norn (female) because despite the fact that I don’t really like them as a race (not to fond of the arrogant warrior culture thing)

A) I already have characters of the other races and wanted one of each.

B) I like what they look like more than human. Don’t look as young, muscular, tattoos, I like the T1 cultural armor, staff animation makes them look kitten where as the human female and sylvari one is kinda “girly” too me.

An underwater map has the potential to be really beautiful to explore so I kinda hope they add one but I’m not a huge fan of the underwater combat to be honest. The fact that half you skill don’t even work is really annoying and I always get blindsided by mobs I didn’t see and get killed (though this my fault) so while I wold definitely explore it once or twice its not likely to be an area I return to regularly.

Clearly they should just not reward anything because that’s forcing players do it and punishing those who don’t. Everyone should just get a set amount of money every day.

Seriously though, you make that argument for pretty much any activity in the game. Dailies don’t even give you that much money. It’s the cost of a waypoint or two. You get more just from running a dungeon.

About the manifesto: specifically...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

I think they are referring to the dynamic events. No it doesn’t stay saved permanently, I don’t see how you could ever have this regularly in an MMO. We had the Kakra event which was like that but it turned into a disaster with too many people trying to the event at once and people missing out. It would be great if once the land was cleansed and Zhaitan defeated the land actually started to heal but I don’t really know how they would do this.

But at least when you save a village you see it saved, people rebuild and other events do or don’t happen based on if it was saved. It’s not like you kill X amount of enemies and get thanked for “saving the village” despite the fact that it’s still swarming with enemies and on fire. Eventually it will get attacked when no players are there to defend it and put you back at square one but it feels relatively natural (it’s not like the centaurs are going to stop attacking because they lost one battle) and you need to have the events reset otherwise you run out of them.

“Experienced Zerk mesmer LFG p1 farm. Zerk warriors only please.

or

“lf(2). cof path 1 farm. GOLD FARM!!!!!!ONLY FULL ZERKER WARRIORS. SELF INVITE. JOIN FAST!!!!!”

Doesn’t sound very open and accepting, so I can’t see ANet implementing such a system in GW2.

In fact it’s probably undermining what they’ve been trying to build all along.

So because some people want to do speed runs with specific builds they shouldn’t add any LFG system at all and just make it more difficult for everyone? I doubt that is really why they haven’t because that is a really bad reason not not add one.
This already happens in game anyway and its not really an issue. It not like everyone is doing this. Just run with a different group.

For future armor sets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Yeah…the light armour is the worst for this. If your going to make the female armour skimpy at least do the same for the male. Though they do far better than most MMO’s (not that being better than most MMO’s says much since female in most MMO’s seems to be either child or fantasy themed stripper). For once the female version of non human races aren’t made to look human regardless of what their male counter parts look like, the animation and poses for women aren’t sexualized and for the most part the armor is fine. I don’t like all of them but different strokes for different folks.
Guild wars 2 has many armours that aren’t skimpy so its not a huge deal that a few are and many of the ones that are don’t give of the vibe of “designed specifically to be jacked off too” .
The starting light armour I despise though since you start with it and it’s a skin is used for random drop armour all through the game. The armour that is chosen to introduce people to all the scholar professions is the one in which the guys get a cool long coat and the girls get a frilly belt? Really? I would rather fight naked and in fact my Norn Ele did fight naked until I could buy different because a large tattooed Norn in that was just too stupid.
Teir 3 human cultural medium and light armour kitten es me off a little bit too because I actually like the male versions and wish we just had that tweaked to fit a female body rather than under boob armour and a decorated bra. Unfortunately it also pretty popular so we might be getting more of this in the future.

Well the names of my character make sense lore wise (or at least I think they do). That’s just the easiest way to name them to me. It’s harder to come up with a silly name.
I get a lot of names from random name generators or the books I happen to be reading at the time. I don’t RP in a game but I do give them personalty and back-story when I’m bored so I prefer they have an actual name.

However people naming characters silly or lore breaking things really doesn’t bother me at all. Some of them are clever or funny.

Not really, I had this issue a bit with GW 1 where people were asking you to ping your build all the time but I have yet to be asked about my build in GW2. At most I’ve been asked if I’m using exotic.

You’re saying you got yelled at for the wrong build at level 6? what? you don’t really have a build at level 6 or anything that requires a group anyway. You sure it wan’t due to level?

When discussing a class on forums people tend to be min/maxing so maybe it comes across like you NEED to play that way but you don’t. Its just generally the more effective way to play.

Legendary Weapons worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

They are cosmetic only at the moment (and hopefully will stay that way). They have unique skins and animations. They do not have better stats than exotic. Although if they introduce ascended weapons presumably they would be buffed to match since they are meant to always be top tier. I’m not sure how that would work if you transmuted it though and since they don’t have a variety of stat combinations that could be an issue.

I don’t like most of them TBH. Many of them are joke skins and while they are good for a laugh when you first see them and the thought of my Charr shooting rainbows out of a unicorn bow is amusing I’m not spending that much on one. I like the trident but spending that much on underwater weapon seems silly since I would barely ever see it.
Though since in general I don’t like weapons that are too over the top and flashy I don’t think there are going to be many legendaries I will end up liking since they are all about being flashy.

No, I really don’t like being tied into a sub and I tend to be on and off with how much I play. I would rather pay for new content when it comes out. If I like a game and spend many hours on it I will use the cash shop as a way to give the developers money. Although while I am fine with a cash shop, if they start putting unbalancing gear that is unobtainable in any other way in it I won’t continue to play. I have left many MMO’s for this reason.

A large part of the reason I got GW1 was because it had no sub.

People oppose the changes being made to Guild Wars 2 not because they are in love with Guild Wars 1 and want Guild Wars 2 to be the same as Guild Wars 1, but because the changes are bad changes, taken on their own merits.

Guild Wars 1 is only mentioned in cases where either A) People seem confused as to how an online RPG can be successful without parroting the features of EverQuest/World of Warcraft, and Guild Wars 1 serves as an example of how a game like that can be successful, or When people bring up previous statements made during Guild Wars 2’s marketing with the argument that “they didn’t specifically say this with this specific wording so I don’t know why you interpreted it to mean that”. The same philosophy was espoused during Guild Wars 1’s development, and they maintained that philosophy for close to eight years - it was not unreasonable for people to expect that ArenaNet would adhere to those principles.

People are also not dogmatically in favour of keeping the game exactly as Guild Wars 1 was. Guild Wars 1 did not have a functional Z-Axis, jumping, or dodging. Do you see Guild Wars 1 fans saying that those mechanics should be removed from Guild Wars 2? No? Then ask yourself, what does that tell you?

That^
I’m not annoyed that GW2 isn’t exactly like GW1. I’m annoyed because they talked this game up like it was going to different from most MMO’s in sense that you would not get stat grind, only grind for looks or achievements but threw that out the window a few months later when the reviews had already been done and most the people who would have bought GW2 based on the design philosophy had already got it. GW1 is used because people keep using “stat grind is necessary to have players interested” as an excuse for A-net doing this when GW1 did not have this.

And in what way is stat grind unique? It isn’t.

I dont’ like stat grind either, but I also feel like this whole Ascended gear thing is causing more stress than it should. I’m certainly not for the addition of equipment with greater stats than Exotics, but I’m also not pmsing over it. Right now it only effects Fractals, which I frankly could care less about. The bulk of the game has nothing to do with fractals, and PvE gear does not transition into PvP (excluding WvW.)

Hopefully the psychotic reaction to Ascended gear will leave a bitter taste in ANet’s mouths and keep them from doing similar things in the future. I personally wouldn’t mind them either reversing Ascended stats to exotic and changing stuff around so they have different attributes (adding some diversity,) or bumping all exotics up to match ascended stats.

Or Ascended gear would become the stuff you get from all dungeons, but those boons in stats would not transition over to WvW. Actually that might be better.

Yeah, I think its too early to be crying “doom!”. I am a bit pissed tbh, I very very rarely buy games within the first year of their release and did so this time because I liked their design philosophy and liked GW1. It feels like I was mislead and the way A-net has handled this hasn’t helped but while I’m going not to be purchasing from the cash shop I’m also not going to ask for a refund (I’m sure most have gotten at least $60 with of entertainment from this so I think a refund is a bit extreme) or completely ditch them and swear to never buy another thing from them until we see where this is headed.

I personalty think it would have better if they had just added infusion slots to exotics and then given you bonus while in the dungeon for infusions. At the least I think ascended gear has no place in WvW.

This is an MMO

MMO’s are based on “more effort, more reward”
Stop trying to destroy a perfectly good MMO with the constant whining that all should be equal.

Why the kitten did you even buy this game?

almost every other MMO caters to “spend X amount of hour repeating the same mind numbing task over and over again not because it is fun but but to get some higher numbers” but instead of buying one of those you come to the one mmo that promised they wouldn’t do that and frankly people should pissed when a company pulls a blatant bait and switch on them.

No one wants something endlessly repetitive. On the other hand so many whiners in this game want things pretty much handed to them.

What are people going once they max their gear out in a three days-week (perhaps longer for the very casual player)? Is there any point of going into a dungeon? Are skins really worth the effort to the entire gw2 population to waste some hours getting?

I WvW but that isn’t always the most entertaining. With the “PVE-Welfare State” there’s not as many ways to entertain myself….

You don’t need a carrot on stick do something that actually is fun. I don’t get rewarded for watching a movie but I still do it.
Cosmetics rewards are fine and something that many would work for. Guild wars 1 had this and the sentiment has been expressed by many many people on this site. You want your character to look good do you not? especially if its one you spend a lot of time playing.
Another thing people could work for that don’t include stats is achievements, titles and trophies. A lot of people go for these sort of things in games (including me).
Since this game isn’t even sub based anyway it doesn’t really matter if you stop playing because you’ve got tired of the content currently in the game. Take a break or come back when they release more content and new challenges (new challenges meaning difficult not repetitive ones)

almost every other MMO caters to “spend X amount of hour repeating the same mind numbing task over and over again not because it is fun but to get some higher numbers” but instead of buying one of those you come to the one mmo that promised they wouldn’t do that. You can reward a player for effort in ways other than stats.
Frankly people should pissed when a company pulls a blatant bait and switch on them.

Female Charr. I didn’t realize at the time how badly the medium armor clips with Charr but there are some…well ok 2 armors that like so its alright.

I am so sick of bad allies

The worst thing someone has done to me was when I was reviving a downed teammate in shadow refuge and another teammate ran to “help” revive them…while being targeted by an enemy doing AOE damage. head desk

Some people just don’t pay attention and there is general lack of communication in most groups made of randoms but then I’m sure I do stupid things too.
