I have been playing since beta with only a few months off, and never heard the term “CC” until some control nut started shouting it during a battle. When I asked what he was talking about, he said “if you don’t know you should not be playing”. No one else volunteered the info. From what I have gathered it means “crowd control”? No idea what that means or what skills that refers to, never heard the term before.

Yes it means crowd control. Daze, immobilize, stun, fear, knockback, cripple ect. basically anything that either stops the enemy from being able to do something or forces them to do something.

The greatest lie ever told in GW2!

Demented Sheep.1642

That line always read as very sarcastic to me.

They lied to my Norn warrior about being the mighty Slayer.

The story is, my Norn went and killed a giant ice wurm on her first day. Which was true enough. But when you check the details, the story is different.

Issormir is a giant Ice Wurm which was captured by Knut Whitebear and Eir Stegalkin from Lostvyrm Cave.

Knut Whitebear: By my own hand, I have brought the mighty wurm, Issomir. He waits above, in the plateau, for one such as you to challenge him

Those 2 went to the cave where that wurm was, captured it and got it all the way up those stairs into that tiny enclosure. Then they left it there, probably without food or water until the “Great Hunt” when they pointed it out to my warrior and told her to go kill it. Basically, she killed an animal fetched for her by someone else and staked out in a pen. For that she got the title of Slayer of Issormir.

And Eir was there fighting it aswell.

Lack of valuable loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Demented Sheep.1642

There is a fix to this that allows the drop rate of “valuable” stuff to increase without causing inflation in the game, and thats simply to implement loot wear.
eg if you get a super dooper weapon from a drop, then as you use it in battle , its stats slowly fall, and each time you get it repaired the repair costs go up exponentially.
After a while, the weapon becomes so expensive to keep repairing, that you will have to get a new one.
Same with armour and all other stuff thats deemed to be “valuable”, whatever that means.

Punishing players for using a rare item and arbitrarily forcing them to rebuy or farm it again is a terrible idea

Demented Sheep.1642

I honestly almost wish that Braham had been a ranger instead of a guardian so he could find Garm and train him, but unless we start seeing people break profession lines in Guild Wars 2, that doesn’t seem likely.

It doesn’t’ matter if it breaks the profession line because he is an NPC and Garm is already trained anyway, he would just have to get him to want to fight with him.
Canach doesn’t follow the professions. He uses a sword and shield , bombs and landmines so is he a warrior or engineer?
Players are only locked into professions for balance.

Alternatively it would be nice to have a grace period when you use a kit so you can revert changes.

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Rangers can’t have firearms, because they go against their nature theme, hence having two bows instead a bow and a rifle. Remember they are not WoW’s ‘hunter’. They re closer to D&D’s rangers and druids, and so there’s things they can’t do or they’d go against their connection to nature, reducing or losing their powers altogether.

Also, each bow has a different weapon strength. Shortbow is weaker, and fits better fast attacks, while longbow is stronger, and first better longer range stronger but slower attacks.

Why do guns conflict with “nature”?

Whenever I hear this argument I can’t help wondering how true the proponent is to their convictions.. but besides that, in a game that’s about self-improvement, the carrot is a crucial part of the fun.

You could self improve by actually improving instead of watching some number go up.

What happened to all the sylavri who weren’t with pact? the pale tree? what happens to the mordem guard now that the dragon is dead? where the hell was Malycks tree (or was that just a throw away “wouldn’t it be cool” plot)? the egg and the “rest of glints legacy”? are the Itzel, Nuhoch and Exalted going to be involved moving forward? What are we getting from Rata Novus? It can’t just be there for “the dragons have a weakness”

If kralkatorrik is the next dragon they could do the finalizing of the charr-human treaty and solving the ghost problem. It would be awesome if that changed the starting zones BUT that would be more work than it’s worth and make it weird for new players.

In general I would like for them to stop finding excuse for Rox to vanish or have her just fulfil a function (Kas and Jory had the same thing but they had a lot to do in the previous LS). Canach could use more story focus too, you would think this expansion plot would have be his time to shine but it was really rushed and Brahman and Rytlock seem to get more spotlight than him.
I would also like for my character to properly reprimanded Tami for running off all the time without telling the rest where she is even going, rather than it just conveniently working out and everyone finding it endearing.

For the love of god, please let us skip the talking segments. Maybe have it cut off if you run past them an onto the next objective

Throwing more people at problem doesn’t necessarily help. Too many people can be almost as much a problem as too few.

That said I don’t think they should be putting too much into the next expansion just yet because though I’ve defended it I would be wary of dropping $50 on the next expansion based on HoT.

Remove 30 devs from expansion that no one wants and give us legendary’s and living story.

And the 6 devs from the raids too can be moved over to LS3. Raids only service a small fraction of the player base compared to the rest of the game.

Raids can wait, and when ANet have fulfilled what they promised, the team can go back to raids.

A 3 wing raid was promised as expansion content.

Request: more daring (light) male armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demented Sheep.1642

Demented Sheep.1642

Charr and norn need to swap armor styles in a lot of cases. It would fit lore (including the GW1 charr, it seems) – not to mention science – far better.

Not sure about that. GW1 Norn often didn’t wear much armour either.
GW2 played it down but the Norn are shape-shifters . They are also much stronger, more durable and resistant to the elements than a human or even a Charr. Their culture revolves around ridicules boasting so they would want to show of their cough assets and I think their “armour” is often just decoration or incorporating their spirit animal as a sign of respect. It doesn’t look or feel realistic but since they seem to take their inspiration for heavily idealised Norse legendary and god figures (with some nature worship thrown in) that’s not surprising.

For GW2 I’m guessing they didn’t want the Charr to look primitive (because they aren’t now) but to me since they have fur and run on all fours, staying away from unnecessary coverings, particularly around the legs and shoulders just makes sense on light/medium armoured Charr. Plus it looks better.

Heh, same problem for mine. I view the demon masque as part of her face! in fact one of the reasons I picked the face I did is because it looked good with it.

Maybe sell a “mode designer transmutation” that allows me to transmutate the headpiece of my outfits, that way we can getthe headpiece we want and A-Net gets a new top seller, win-win

Oh god no. Adding a new cash shop item for something like that which should already fall under the existing transmutation charges is really pushing it, especially if it exits to be used on another cash shop bought item.

How is HoT difficulty?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Demented Sheep.1642

I’m saying that the small group of hardcore players burn through content faster than everyone else. Hardcore players are concerned about the present and not so much the future. Casual players tend to be more long term driven and will fund the game that way. Hardcore players also earn a majority of what they receive through the game itself rather than spending real world cash. Would you rather cater to a hardcore player that sinks little to no money over a small period of time before they get bored and leave the game, or a casual player who spends $30-$40 a month over several years to buy cosmetics, toys, etc.?

I’m not even sure that’s true if you’re talking about hardcore as in likes hard content rather than just who sink a kitten ton of hours into things. They might complete basic content faster but also be more inclined to repeat it and do things like achievements. Despite accusations of being “hardcore” in this thread I don’t have much currency in game because I don’t like farming and what I am earning is going into gear at the moment, not cool cosmetic things. If I want something from the gemstore I have to buy it (and I have bought things from the gemstore). A lot of very causal players will run through story content (which by it’s nature is not the sort of content you’re are going to want to repeat over and over again) and explore maps once then get bored. That’s what was happening with the LS updates.
It’s almost certainty not the majority of players who spend $30-$40 a month on the gemstore.

How is HoT difficulty?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Demented Sheep.1642

The challenging content is there. It’s not ANet’s fault that players want to put their own requirements on group creation. However, hitting on that subject for a moment you can see the circle that those hardcore players create:

  • Hardcore players require more difficult content
  • Such content is given to them
  • Hardcore players look at finding the most efficient enemy melting compositions in order to do said content quick and easy while reaping the rewards.
  • Rewards have been reaped and reaped over and over again
  • Hardcore players complain that said content is too easy
  • Hardcore players require more difficult content

And eventually…

  • Difficulty requirements for content not met by developers
  • Hardcore players eventually leave the game claiming they are bored

This is why catering to that small group of players while alienating the majority of your player base is a bad idea because in the end they’re only loyal so long as they can get their content requirements and they’re really only looking for a fix rather than long term play.

Are you serious with this? you claim you shouldn’t cater to players who want harder content because they’ll leave if you don’t keep adding content. Meanwhile you are complaining that the content in the expansion is too hard despite the fact that 90% of the content in the game is still very very easy and catering to you.

I don’t think this has been addressed yet but people who want challenging PvE content do not have WvW and PvP. Like always there will be some overlap but generally PvE and PvP focused players are separate groups.
If you want difficult solo content or don’t want to properly organised 9 other people (who are probably going to want you to have ascended gear which is time gated and expensive) or would rather have more freeform grouping and events then you don’t have raids either.

I still get a kick out of how the old pros still try and set the skill curve of the average player at their level. Players who have been playing for three plus years, have played thousands of hours on every or close to every profession, put countless time into every mob type, every boss type, seen every mechanic and have also crafted one if not multiple ascended sets. Your judgement of difficulty for HoT is flawed as you are not within the average player skill level. You are quite far above it.

I didn’t play for a year, have a single ascended weapon that haven’t even been using, was playing on a character I speed levelled to 80 with crafting and tomes and didn’t even read my traits properly before going around the maps. If I’m not within the average for skill this games players base is just sad.

sometimes it is dedication
sometimes it only a matter of spending enough time and energy

I wouldn’t consider myself that skilled either.
Is finding open world HoT too hard actually what the average player thinks? because I don’t see people complaining about it in game. When I was deciding whether to get it most of my guildmates buzzed about it and the worst I heard was that it was a bit light on content.

Why on earth would ArenaNet do that to people who’ve already bought the game? Shouldn’t we get HoT (at least the $50 version)? I feel like I’ve been cheated. Again.

You got playtime (3 years worth depending on when you bought it) + events and living story prior to it becoming free to play.

Problem with race specific skills is it runs the risk of making the meta a race/class combo. The race skills are intentionally underpowered to avoid that (although Hounds of Blathazar is actually very useful for soloing on my mes). It’s just for flavour. I would like the Norn forms to have extended duration. Not only are the skills they replace yours with less powerful than what you would normally have, because of the short duration it’s not even good for running around and having fun with it.

As a side note, taking power from the dragons seems like more of a magitech asuran thing. The charr are into physical technology (grenades, mortars, tanks ect) they distrust magic and making their own way is a big thing for them.
