Just gonna toss out a suggestion – but how about a 1 time item that is like a Karma Multiplier? Takes the current amount of karma that you have in your wallet and adds an extra +25% of that amount to it.
People that haven’t used their jugs yet can use them, then pop the Karma Multiplier.
People that have used their jugs can pop the Multiplier and both groups of people will be in the same boat.
If people have already spent the karma, they can wait til their Karma amount gets back up to a level they feel comfortable popping the Multiplier for.
/shrug, just something off the cuff.
Bottleneck people if using staff for ele? (Tunnels, hallways, at the edge of cliffs, people stuck inside Guardian Hammer #5)
Or use different weapons? Maybe daggers or something?
You can always swap weapons inbetween combat.
Certain tools are more effective in one situation than another. Use the appropriate tool for the appropriate situation. A hammer is great for driving a nail, but not so good at unscrewing a bolt.
Well, i guess I can throw away those Karma boosters from achievement chests. =p
But yea, at this point remove karma jugs and just directly give it to us. :S
Or use them?
Anyways, thanks for the apology, CoJo, I think that is a very upstanding thing to do.
Class doesn’t matter as much on Jade Maw compared to the other fractals. Have a friend start the instance, and then just make sure your party is cool with you swapping to an alt for the Maw.
Personally, I think it’s fine having certain items restricted to certain areas. If you feel the item is worth it to get, you’ll put in the effort to get it. If the item isn’t worth it to get, don’t bother doing something you’ll hate and then feel unsatisfied with.
As for getting a vial, you can actually go in solo and roll for Ascalon and farm there. Tag mobs, and let the friendly NPCs do the work of tanking and killing.
Best of luck!
2) The boss’s mechanics should be better conveyed. They don’t need to be changed – just better conveyed. There is no indication that the spiders are a dodge-able attack – yes he shakes his head, but there is no indication of a hitbox or a “dodge now” or even an “I should dodge this” to portray the mechanic. The very concept of dodging an add spawn is just silly – “Oh, they evaded, looks like my spiders can’t get here now. Well, **** me.”
Strangely enough, if you look up after the tree shakes its head… you’ll see some green eggs flying at you.
I thought getting kicked from dungeons and needing 3 people to vote for kick was the new TA F/U?
Basically, if you add a teaspoon of wine to a barrel of sewerage, you still have sewerage. If you add a teaspoon of sewerage to a barrel of wine…you get sewerage.
Mind. Blown.
I’m going to use this some day.
Helpful trick: If you wipe, you can pull the spiders into the beginning of the hallway, around the bend away from the Nightmare tree. Takes time, but so long as nobody is in range of the head shake, the tree won’t spawn additional spiders. This will allow you to make another attempt more cleanly.
Perfect, I will sift through all of this helpful information!
Hi all! First off, before any mod moves this to the necro subforum, I’d respectfully request this remain in the dungeon section. I highly respect the capabilities and knowledge of the dungeon forum, and I mean no disrespect to necro subforum, I just simply don’t know the frequenters there to have an idea of how to value their opinions.
Given the Crown Pavilion, I’ve managed to get my Necromancer up to 74, and will soon have her up to 80. Now I already use war, guard, mes, ele, and thief in dungeons and fractals, and I value each professions’ abilities in that setting. If in the case that the bug hits me to use my necro in dungeons, I’d like some suggestions on what builds you’ve used or seen used that you felt we’re the best or most synergistic for dungeon/fractal settings.
Thanks all, and while I’m sure many may say “don’t use your necro” I’d just like to keep those comments to a minimum.
Depends on if you are asking in a solo setting or in a dungeon setting where you get buffs/support from your teammates.
What could be improved is when in leveling zones you run past an NPC he tells you to be careful. Make sure that he tells it only once to one person, instead of it being triggered by running past a certain place. Though sometimes it’s so fun to hear the NPC speak with multiple voices at once when all you’re doing is taking a step backwards and then forwards again and again.
There are actually a handful of NPCs that do this. Off the top of my head, there’s a peacemaker officer in the cubical building in Metrica Province (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Obscura_Incline#NPCs) that warns you about heading past him before you’re experienced enough.
The person in the cutscenes is the person who started the instance.
Also, you could just ask in party chat.
The problem is that with PuGging, if you yell at someone, you give them justification to boot you.
If they were messing up that badly, I think there are two good options, possibly 3 good options.
1. Be polite. I know, I know. People are faceless on the Internet. It’s so easy to just yell at a person you’re never gonna see again. Be the better person. Make suggestions in a positive way that encourages people to see the value in you and what you’re saying. They are also more likely to actually take your advice instead of resenting you and subsequently grieving and booting you.
2. If you feel like they are being a detriment to the run, kick/boot them yourself. Make sure you know you have the support of the other team members.
3. Cut your losses early. If you’ve spent an hour in the first fractal and people just seem willfully clueless, politely excuse yourself. Why waste another hour killing yourself with people who you dislike? Make a new party.
Don’t forget that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Make your own parties. Start your own instances. If you can’t start an instance, group with Tuileries who can.
Good luck!
Arthur did not throw 1000 longswords at some watery tart hoping she would throw back Excalibur.
+1 for this. I laughed.
I have bought all of the other stuff, which is what I grind my life away doing this summer. Why pursue one of the hardest thing to get first :P This whole summer was a grind just for the materials while saving up. But, I’m here to say how random the chances are, even with 1600 GS. No, I’m not saying I should have been able to buy a precursor with 300 gold. I don’t recall saying anything like that at all, which I’m confused where you got all of that assumption from.
If you do the hardest bit first (obtaining the precursor), then you can be confident that you will have the ability to do all of the easier stuff afterwards.
But if your ability to get the precursor is in doubt – because you don’t have the time and patience to save the gold for one – then why waste your time doing the easy stuff and then find out afterwards that you won’t be able to make a legendary? Best to find out earlier than later so you can move on to more enjoyable goals.
Instead of going down the expected main path, there is a path around the right edge behind some tent/building.
I suppose that depends. One of the great strengths of feedback is that it is a Utility skill and can be easily swapped in and out. You’d have to measure the value of having that skill over the other skills that Mesmer have.
I still think it would be a valuable skill to have. Just look at shield of the avenger. People use the shield a lot, and it is just projectile absorption.
It is our fault for believing on support roles.
This game is just about zerg and dps.
No need for support on 99% of the game.
So go zerker or waste your time.
Remember that video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWQ-39_C8LI
Estimated team composition :
1 support Mesmer. Portal, Blink, Signet of Inspiration, Feedback, Timewarp
1 support Ranger. Spirit of Frost, Spotter, Call of the Wild
1 support Warrior. Banners, Empower Allies, FGJ, Long duration Fire combo field with longbow
2 DPS thieves, kinda. Blast finishers in fire fields as support.Support roles exist, it’s just that they are expected to deal some DPS themselves too so they gear in zerk stuff.
That’s not support. That’s just maximizing damage enhancement boons. I don’t see a anything on that list like regen, water fields, protection, aegis, reflection, etc. that I would actually classify as support in the classical sense that nearly everyone else in this thread means.
Feedback is a Reflection.
Maybe at least ANet could change match up system, so that any server couldnt be same color two weeks in a row, or something like that.
They did change it up. Your color should change much more frequently. Patience, and you’ll get it done.
Alternatively, you could jump into WvW more and help your server out. I’m sure every little bit helps.
Sounds illogical to blame longer load times on Kiel winning. Possibly irrational, even. Longer load times would have happened regardless of either person winning. It’d probably be more reasonable to blame the wallet for longer load times than Kiel.
Aside from complaints from people being kicked, I’ve actually never heard from a person who did the kicking actually say they did it so they could sell the spot.
Perhaps I’m looking at the situation through rose tinted glasses, but I think situations where two people already have the intent to kick their party members before a dungeon starts is very rare. More likely is that during the run, people do something that really upsets the controlling party, and then they decide to kick the person.
Why doing the pavilion events as my mage do, I after spend loads of time in water attunement to keep the zerg alive? As soon as I stop being in water attunement, I end up surrounded by 20-30, no doubt zerkers crying to be rezzed…
They have annoyed me so much that I have started, when the boss is on 10% health, letting them all die and not rezzing one of them, I am hoping they get the message…
They’re probably wearing MF gear. It is the Pavilion, after all…
I don’t cringe at the word amongst, whilst used properly.
I do cringe at:
“Your welcome”
“Wheres you’re grammar”
“Its over their”
And countless other internet-speak phrases.
Who shot JFK?
/stares at the Asura
I can sympathize, I’m not particularly thrilled at the change for tokens. I was merely attempting to point out what I believe is ANet’s stance. I think they made a very clear stand on what they think of running a dungeon path more than once per day, regardless of how many characters we’ve made.
On a side note, this won’t dissuade me from leveling up the rest of my characters to 80. I play my characters because of who they are intrinsically, not what I can reap from them as far as tokens/gold/etc.
Personally, I think if you love playing a mesmer as an alt, the token reduction shouldn’t dampen your enjoyment of playing a mesmer. Or a necro, or any of your other alts.
“Give awares”? Sadly, my internetese has failed me.
I enjoy running dungeons on multiple characters
You are still allowed to run dungeons on multiple characters.
You could do a CoE P1 on one character, then a CoE P2 on another, then CoE P3 on another.
You can also pick and choose any of your characters to run a CoF P1, then choose another to run CoF P1 the next day.
The gold and token rewards are only for the first play through, so why run it a second time?
This is exactly the reason ANet choose to do this. People were running CoF P1 constantly for hours on end. It seems to be ANet’s opinion that people shouldn’t be devoting hours to running this one instance hundreds of times.
RIP = Rest in peace.
RIP in peace = Rest in peace in peace
Heh, maybe he was thinking it was like the acronym GNU.
GNU => GNU, Not Unix.
I beg to differ
I approve, Vorch.
Happy birthday!
We, the players, were given a choice. While we were all split pretty evenly, the choice was made to go with one over the other. ANet’s intent is to show the players they can make choices that actually affect the story/world. To go back on this would be to defeat that idea and turn the Players’ Vote into a sham.
EDIT: There, fixed the image. Happy?
That makes even less sense!
No, this makes more sense.
As said by Gnat above, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dewey_Defeats_Truman
Being a DM, I view this story arc as a decent success. Look at how invested some people became to having their side win. Some of my most interesting campaigns could be measured by the amount of death threats the PCs made against the NPCs.
1. Continue exploring the map
by setting personal waypoints and farmingwith friends, possibly doing the occasional jumping puzzle.
2. Dungeons wvw.
3. Armor and weapon skin hunting.
4. Not into pvp but that is always an option.
5. Get that legendary weaponwhich is gonna be a complete grind fest.by just taking my time and enjoying the game.
6. Wait for new content lol.
All of the above.
I do guild events!
We usually do them 2-3 times a week. They can range from doing Bounties/Rush/Trek to dungeons/fractals to kodan dance parties in LA and Ruminant Romps through WvW.
it ends up feeling like everyone’s only purpose is to be a damage dealer, instead of being a supporter that sacrifices damage to supplement their group
The problem is support don’t actaully sacrifice damage. Just because your wearing PVT dont’ make you a better support.
Agreed.
Another way of looking at it is like this:
Blind from a person using full zerker is the same blind as the person using Carrion.
Aegis from a person using full zerker is the same aegis as the person using Soldier’s.
Chill, same.
Protection, same.
Weakness, same.
Vulnerability, same.
By going with something like Cleric’s, you might have better healing. But if a zerk group is able to kill a mob without needing that healing because they can dodge, blind, block, etc. then you’ve actually lost more than you’ve gained from going cleric’s.
Couple of thoughts and ideas.
Premise: The simplest way of thinking of a fight in this game is to kill the enemy while minimizing costs. Costs would be things like Time and Money.
We already know why zerk is the meta. You maximize your damage output. Survival (minimizing your repair costs) is based on your team’s ability to dodge/evade/block/blind.
Compared to being in a zerker build, putting emphasis on Support, Control, Healing, Ranged, what-have-you, means giving up some of your DPS. Simple opportunity cost. Some instances, it just makes sense. (Again, that falls back to maximizing your damage while minimizing your cost.)
e.g. Assuming I have FGJ and a Banner (str or disc), I could either slot Shake It Off or a second banner. I might choose SIO to make sure I can cleanse conditions and people standing, overall increasing damage by keeping the team alive compared to having the 2nd banner.
So using this idea of maximizing damage while minimizing cost, you have to consider all the other options. Why is 4war1mes better at running CoFp1 over 5war? By giving up the direct damage of that 1 warrior for that mesmer, you save time in critical places (boulders), plus you Multiply the damage that the other warriors do, resulting in a net DPS increase. (Time Warp, focus pull to group up mobs, SoI to max out boons)
If you wanted to incentivize other options, you have to carefully consider how to increase DPS directly or indirectly with those options.
If I were to think of something for range, I’d do this: While the target is standing still and while the attacker is standing still, ranged deals an addition % of damage.
If I were to do something for healing builds, I’d say this: HP that is healed over the target’s max health (through direct healing powers, not through the heal skill, nor through regen) provide a damage % increase based on the amount that was healed over max health.
Hmmm. For conditions, I might make a new condition called lethargy. Based on the amount of condition damage your character has, it increases the potency of lethargy. Lethargy reduces the target’s attack frequency by a % of speed.
Eh, just some ideas off the top of my head.
But I’m good at playing the game the way I enjoy it.
And that way is rather unrewarding. The reward would be fun, enjoying the game. I’m rather good at doing triathlons, but it’s unrewarding financially (not to mention it costs money to one).
At my job, on the other hand, I prefer to be efficient to get the rewards.
Hit the nail on the head.
Well, yes.
I actually feel better now that I’m reminded that I chose the social part over earning money.
But I think this is exactly what Arenanet said they would not want.
The cost of “doing what you enjoy” should not be “not getting nice things”. It should be “getting nice things later than those who work for them”. (And I do not mean " many months later", which is basically the same as “not getting them”.)
The path to reach the things in the game that you fancy withinin a reasonable time should not be treating the game as a chore, let alone as a job.
The difference between a “professional” farm-group and your friends should not be the one of 2,4 gold per hour and 30 gold per hour.
Interesting. I don’t see “Many months later” as the same as “Not getting them.” I think “Many months later” is later, and “Not getting them” is not getting them.
I think the difficulty is perception. How long is a long time for you? How long do you believe casually and incidentally earning money would it take to earn the gold necessary for T3 Cultural armor? I think ANet has a much different perception than yours. T3 probably falls closer to “endgame skins” for ANet, and thus probably is closer to taking several months if you’re casually trying to acquire them.
So since seven months I play the game for hours every day, including dungeon runs, and now I have enough money to buy ONE one-time-use armour skin (i.e. Cultural T3).
That is time I’ll never get back. And I cannot say that I enjoyed every second of it.
Hmmm. Would more money really bring you more enjoyment? There really is something to the old adage “Money doesn’t buy you happiness.”
Instead of fretting over money issues, consider what you do in this game that brings you enjoyment. Choose to spend the time that you never get back doing the things that you enjoy. You’ve chosen to play with your friends one particular way. You understand that this path is less than what the fastest route is. This is a tradeoff. You should enjoy your runs with your friends and just accept that you aren’t maximizing your money for the time you spend. You’re buying time hanging out with friends with the money you’d otherwise be earning running an optimal setup. This is your choice and not one ANet can help you with.
If you are still frustrated with your lack of ability to make money, then perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate how you are earning it and how high on your list of priorities it is. Besides CoF p1, there’s a plethora of ways to make money in this game. Find one that you really enjoy. Personally, I enjoy running CoE and Fractals. I could make way more money doing CoF p1, but I’d be bored to tears. (I tried once and after the 3rd run I had to excuse myself because I hated it so much.)
It is your enjoyment, your time. You choose what to do with it and you just have to accept what comes with it.
And whenever I see your name, Nuke….I think of a radioactive carbonated drink.
It’s from Fallout (which are all fantastic games!)
Subligar
(Can I have it?)
Hey, a veteran FFXI player!
Just curious, how many of those who would like to have Fractal levels be account bound would also be okay with your daily fractal chests also being account bound?
(I myself am okay with either system, it’s more of a curiosity thing for me.)
Agreed wholeheartedly. I actually just encountered a group that tried to skip this last night and it really surprised me. I’m so used to killing these I attacked them anyways >.>
I think one of the other reasons that wasn’t mentioned for character-bound levels is that each character has their own daily chests. If the system was converted to an account-bound system for levels, I could definitely see ArenaNet setting it up so that each account gets one daily for each tier regardless of the character that ran it. I would view that as the tradeoff to get what you’d be asking for.
Highly doubtful. However, you could get some kind of VNC program/app and run GW2 on your computer and do basic stuff like log in and use the trading post.
>.>
I can’t wait for the funky transition period where some people will be using the in game tool and some people will be using the website and some people will be posting on both. Who knows what exciting new things you guys will get to complain about?
I’m sure they can’t confirm that they are working on any new dungeons, but they’re probably considering it.
