Explicitly stated, the Karma Vendors that have the armor you’re looking for become available when the chain of events is successfully completed to open a temple. By extension, opening a temple also uncontests the waypoint.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exotic_karma_armor

As Yargesh mentions in his post, you can look for an open temple and then guest to that world to buy the armor pieces you need.

On a related topic, beyond your PVT armor, may I also recommend eventually getting yourself a set of knights and a set of berserkers armor? Guardians to incredibly well at support. So much so that with practice, you can be quite DPSy while supporting.

That seems odd. I didn’t notice a change with him from two weeks ago and today.

We had 8 people when we fought him today.

I think Mesmers are a good thing to have in this fight. If he hangs out in his Fire shield and builds up lots of might, you can Arcane Thievery it. Mesmers are also good at wearing away Defiant stacks.

If you have a guardian, I kinda recommend having Pure of Voice, just to help with some of the conditions. Everyone should have some kind of condition removal just in case as well, anyways. Highly recommend to people in melee range to have a stunbreak too, incase he jumps on you.

For us, our strategy is really just to zerg him. It’s worked for us so far >.>; People in melee range should dodge his jumping stomp. When you see him go for a drink, be prepared to dodge his fire breath. If you’re getting burned to death… stop attacking him and back off a bit until you heal up again. Despite him having a fire shield up, we kept fighting him, and if our mesmer could pull/push him out, all the better, but if not, we just kept the pressure on him.

Best of luck! You can do it!

What feature do you miss from your old MMO

DigitalKirin.9714

Curious, which MMO has/had difficult content?

Final Fantasy XI. Pre-nerfing of CoP content if you had access to Sea, you kitten well earned it.

Edit: Added cloaks/capes.

I miss Dynamis (a.k.a. Die-namis). When people earned their Relics, that was a big accomplishment (waaaay bigger deal than Legendaries here, sadly). You had to know how to make money to pay for 2 Dynamis runs a week, had to have the leadership to lead a group of 18-64 people through runs (or have a team of leaders that could), and sometimes the dedication to stare the RNG gods in the face even through the wrong Attestation dropped 10 times in a row.

I liked how it was a team effort from having a good puller, having a team of coordinated blms, having a crack team to support the maintank.

I liked how it was a time-attack. You started with 1 hour or 30 minutes for the instance and you had to strategize on how to get to that next time checkpoint.

I don't like charr armor skin options

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DigitalKirin.9714

Aesthetics are completely in the eye of the beholder. While I find less outfits that make me say, “Wow, that’s a really awesome set!” I still like several of them for the charr. That being said, I am happy with my mix’n’match for my charr thief.

TA helm, body.
HotW shoulder.
CoF hands, pants, feet.
(I feel like an AlienCyborgWerewolf)

It’s hard to differentiate the pants and feet on most medium sets for charr. I think this is because many coats hang down, obscuring the legs. Also, charr legs are proportionally shorter compared to humans.

Last man standing = Best player in the party?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DigitalKirin.9714

DigitalKirin.9714

I agree with the opinions that the last man standing has nothing to do with if you’re the “best” player or the “worst” player.

For me, the criteria of being the best player in the party is being the best team player. This means making the best decision for the party at every single moment. If you have 4 people down/defeated, how did it get to that point, and could you have prevented that from happening?

Yes, sometimes people getting downed is their own fault. If you had the opportunity (read: minimal risk of getting downed) to help them up and you didn’t, I don’t think you made the best decision for your party.

On the flip side, sometimes someone gets downed in a terrible spot where trying to res them would actually lead to the resser getting downed as well, I think the best decision for the party is sometimes to just let that person get defeated if there are no other options.

And hey, sometimes people can surprise you with their tenacity, too. Have you ever been in Volcanic where 3 people go down to the legendary shaman, and 1 person drags the shaman away from the corpses and holds it while the other works on ressing? That’s some serious teamwork and skill.

While much of the content is soloable, I think having a good support group (guild) is incredibly helpful. This can also potentially open up the door for you to also learn things like dungeons, which are a great source of income as well as helping you to learn your class in a challenging group environment too.

raise repair bills, raise teleporting costs, raise trading post taxes
-> deflation

however some may be so poor that the repair bills can be too much… :P

I don’t think that making money sinks bigger would be a good solution considering how most money sinks are already established at their current level. It would only cause outrage.

Additionally, I believe that making money sinks bigger is only attempting to treat the symptoms that happen when money printing gets out of hand, instead of actually regulating the printing of the money itself.

is it really possible to have a perfectly balanced system?

I don’t think that this is an attempt to make a perfectly balanced system. This is a thought exercise that suggests it’s better for the economy if people are producing goods instead of printing money.

what do we do with the guys having 5k gold?

This suggestion isn’t meant to “deal with” guys with 5k gold. Those people would have earned that money regardless of my suggestion because they most likely did their homework and had smart usage of the trading post.

how many people are poor so they can have that?

I sympathize with people who have difficulties making ends meet, not only in game, but also in real life. However, being destitute in a (more or less) free market society is not a function of inflation but a measure of that individual’s resource allocation. How much time are they putting forth on doing something profitable vs. how much time they are doing something unprofitable.

do we go for socialism or capitalism?

Both in their purest forms have advantages and drawbacks, and could be analyzed ad nauseum. However, that’s not the point of my post. Inflation is a problem that can affect both socialistic economies as well as capitalistic economies.

The point of my post is: I hypothesize that it’s healthier for the economy to be producing goods (rare items/ectoplasms) over printing money (26 silver).

u dude are overthinking it.

Maybe I am “overthinking” it. But I’m not looking to produce a “cure-all” which I think you seem to be under the impression that I’m talking about. Dude, I think you are over-thinking it.

I’ve been mulling over the hypothesis that our economy has been slowly but steadily gaining inflation. I call it a hypothesis because I don’t have any objective data to back it up, haha, though I’m sure it could be mined from gw2spidy or something.

As a quick rundown, a major cause of inflation is when the amount of currency in circulation increases faster than the amount of goods and services available. Gold and silver in this game represent buying power, but without goods such as fine crafting materials, orichalcum, omnomberry pies, precursors, etc. that buying power is actually meaningless.

So what are the major places that currency enters circulation? Heart Quests, Dynamic Events, Vendoring items, bags of coin, and dungeon rewards were the ones that I came up with. I feel that of those, dungeon rewards and dynamic events are probably the biggest factors, followed closely by vendoring items.

I was thinking, wouldn’t it be interesting if the 26s at the end of dungeon runs was actually instead a Rare item?

And while I’m sure it would be really unpopular, what if the item was downgraded to a green item if you repeat the exact same path within 30 minutes?

Anyways, not a serious suggestion, but as a thought experiment, I think this would be a significant way to reduce how much money is being “printed” and put into circulation.

Thoughts, ladies and gentlemen?

Would it be different if i participated and our server would still be last, what would be your argument? Let me guess “just be patient” /facepalm

There is one thing for sure. If you don’t try, you won’t make a change. If you want map completion, “letting it happen” isn’t in the cards for some people.

How about this? Work with your guild and potentially an alliance with a few other guilds into building a strike force. Get together when wvw populations are low for certain servers.

Even if you can’t dominate in rankings, you can still get POIs and Vistas for undefended areas.

I dont think its like voting when i dont go vote its because i dont care, when i dont go WvW its beacuse its boring as hell…

The reasons you choose not to do it are your own. Regardless of those, the results are similar.

If you don’t vote, you still have to live with the laws enacted. You essentially forfeit any legitimate reason to complain about a law you didn’t vote on.

If you don’t participate in wvw and your server doesn’t take the objectives that you need for the POIs or Vistas, you don’t have a legitimate reason to complain until you start making an honest effort in WvW.

This is why they are similar.

I can definitely see this being a problem for people whose server may be firmly entrenched in the bottom rung of the lowest tier.

It is sometimes frustrating to see after several weeks that your server hasn’t changed color.

Myself, I got completion without transferring servers, and I truly believe that you can too. One thing you should do is to develop an enjoyment of WvW. Find out when and where your server is usually active, get on and participate.

It’s like voting. There are some people who don’t vote because they think their vote doesn’t matter. The thing is that it does matter, but it’s a very small thing relatively speaking. But the more people that get in and do it, the better off your server will be. If everyone takes that first step to just get in and try, you’d be surprised at the results.

DigitalKirin.9714

Thank you for the advise. I should point out that as a berserker elementalist I have trained my dodging and kiting skills to the utmost degree. Group events involving champions that have primarily melee attacks (such as trolls, risen knights, and oozes) are a joke to my elementalist. Through slows, immobilizes, and stuns I can endlessly kite their attacks and dodge any range/AoE attacks. I can solo them.

But this level of player skill is meaningless when I get stuck in overlapping poison fields. Even with mist form I still take DOTs, and the damage from the poison is preposterously high.

I don’t want to be able to do this fight with one-hand, and I want to be punished if I kitten up; but I’m sick and tired of going down whenever I get caught on the edge of the oversized poison fields. A little forgiveness in the fight is needed.

I can certainly sympathize. However, I think you have touched on something important there. This isn’t a fight against a creature you can easily kite. You need to adjust your tactics. There is a saying, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”

Perhaps you should consider moving into melee range… specifically to its tail to avoid the large cleaving attacks. Also, look into what condition removals you can stack and what utilities you can do without.

If you have a guardian in the group, if they have Pure of Voice for two shouts and a Shield of the Avenger, I think that tends to make the fight easier.

It sounds like you are well experienced in dungeons, though. Surely you remember the first few times you might have fought Subject Alpha or Giganticus Lupicus? These fights are very unforgiving to people that don’t know the patterns, but once those emerge and they catch on, they can do these fights with little problems so long as they don’t mess up on dodging or using the proper ability.

There is zero room for error if you run a DPS build

Isn’t this just a truism of a DPS build? You give up survivability to deal more damage. If you want survivability, you must put it into your build somewhere, whether it be vigor for more dodging, or passively in more toughness/vitality, for example.

Perhaps it may behoove you to have 2-3 pieces of knights or soldier’s gear that you can quickly swap into before you start that section of the dungeon.

Additionally, if possible, consider what your team composition is and what assets they might be able to use differently for this fight. Guardians are always valuable in fights like these.

Best of luck!

On the topic of earning influence. It can be challenging earning influence for a small guild. Check the wiki to see how to maximize what influence you guys are earning.

For example. If a guild member completes an event by themselves, they earn 2 influence for the guild. If two guild members get together and complete that event, they earn 20 influence for the guild instead.

If you’re wvw focused, make sure your guild isn’t running around solo, get together and hang out with the zerg. You’ll complete tons of events very quickly doing that.

It may be enlightening for all of us to hear from you what a day in the life of TactiCol is (in game, of course). This might help us put a finger on why you are spending more gold than you are making.

Many people have already given helpful tips. I’ll see if I can add one or two things.

Have the appropriate gathering tools equipped and as you clear maps, make sure you’re gathering. You Don’t have to go out with the mindset of farming gathering nodes. Make it incidental. If you were headed to the next point of your story mission, start from the nearest city (which you can get to for 0 silver by using the Heart of the Mists to Lion’s Arch to the Gate Hub) and run there, gathering whatever happens to be relatively close on your map.

Waypoint less when you choose to clear maps. If you must waypoint to a map, so be it, but make sure you are accomplishing goals there (finishing heart quests, doing dynamic events, gathering) enough to recompense your waypoint cost.

Use basic salvage kits for whites and blues. At level 80, you should be salvaging any white and blue Light and Heavy armor. Vendor white and blue medium armor.

Do dungeons for fun. No seriously. If you’ve got decent gear and you’ve got your son and three friends, do some dungeons. If you’re new, choose to do the Easy dungeons first. (You’ll need to do story mode to unlock explorable mode, too.) Try doing one new one a night. Read the guides or watch the videos to know what you’re up against.

Welcome to the game!

You can try all three “cloth” classes, as you start with 5 character slots. Your mileage may vary, but I’d recommend trying out the Mesmer if you want something unique from other games you’ve played. I’d recommend the Elementalist if you want something that might feel a bit more traditional.

Money is a decently large part of the game, as it is with many MMOs. It really just depends on what your goals are. You don’t NEED money to play the game with contentment.

Tips? Find yourself a really good positive guild of like-minded people. Games come and go, relationships are meaningful.

Things I consider fun:

Not repetitive.
Not dying over and over to a group of 5 mobs. (Thief)
Challenge, to keep things fresh.

Well, I can only say that since I don’t have experience with engineer, both Warrior and Guardian will satisfy the durability issue assuming you build yourself right and use your defensive abilities correctly.
Repetitiveness comes down to perception. You unlock all your utilities and elites by lvl 30, you’ll probably have all your weapon skills unlocked before level ten if you make sure to pick up a weapon of each type.
Challenge comes down again to a personal level. Only you can figure out what you consider challenging.

By stylistic, I mean, did you play a pally in WoW? Did you play a dark knight in FFXI? Did you play a Mystic in Tera? What did you like and dislike about the classes you’ve played before in games?
