… joining CoE parties! o_o;

It’s obvious ANet needs to fix the problem by either renaming one of the two dungeons or by redesigning the English alphabet so that F and E look more different.

If we go with the first solution, I propose either:
Really Hot Cup of Eternity – RHCE
or
Citadel of Conflagaration – CoC

No, I’m not really upset about this, but the thought struck me as funny how often people hang out in fireheart while 4 of us are sitting in Crucible. You can at least mousover people’s party icons to see where they are…

Calx’s Hideout, and Conundrum Cubed possibly?

Look for places that have no POIs, hearts or Waypoints in them. Conundrum Cubed is a JP, but it’s tucked away pretty decently.

Edit: Also, if you did a lot of map completion early on, you may have missed some areas when they added in the Guild Puzzles, like Proxemics Lab.

There’s also Aurora’s Remains while you’re there too.

I look forward to what you choose to produce in regards to these points.
I’m especially curious about the new fractals. The 8(9) that we have now are all well and fun, but a new one or two or three sound nice.

PUG Behavior

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DigitalKirin.9714

DigitalKirin.9714

What kind of behavior would you choose to say, “Well, this PUG had their chance, it’s kick time.”?

I was recently doing AR with my guildies, but we had 1 spot we needed filled, so we grabbed a PUG. He D/Cs before the end boss, so we eventually decide to pick up another PUG rather than four person the run. Picked up a guardian meaning that our group was Guard x3, warrior, elementalist.

We go in and myself, our other guardian and our warrior are meleeing Mai, trying to get the electric circles to pop up under us so we can pull the stacks off of her.

The PUG guardian is using his scepter and staying at range. Which is okay, just slightly annoying when the electric circles pop up under him and it becomes more difficult to get Mai to end up in one.

After the first 25%, when Mai jumps back down, the PUG says in chat, “lol why are you guys dpsing her?”
To which I reply, “We’re trying to get the electric fields on her, what are you doing?”
He says, “Better than you”

Now, this guy just jumps in at the last boss, is in a guild run, and the first thing he says is basically an insult. My first thought is to kick this guy then and there, but then I always hated the idea of just kicking a person and I try to avoid it. I know we could have 4 personed this fight. In the end we chose not to kick this PUG, but I know I put him on my block list. Would you guys have given him the boot? Do you feel it would have been justifiable?

On a side note, is meleeing Mai Trin really that odd?

don't gear lock people out of stuff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DigitalKirin.9714

DigitalKirin.9714

Love it when people are in denial. Gear locking is locking content from people who don’t have a certain score on gear or a certain tier of gear to see content.

I would agree. However, ArenaNet’s only hard coded form of “gear locking” would be fractals because of agony. You can do any other content. If someone doesn’t want to let you run it because your gear isn’t good enough, I think that’s a socially conditioned restriction and not “gear locking”.

And don’t tell us the myth that all guilds are active and will accept anyone trying to do these things without the gear they need because the longer it takes for new players to get into the game the fewer people run the old content, it’s a known fact this happens in every mmo.

Agree and disagree. I agree that not all guilds are active, and that not all guilds are willing to accept people regardless of the quality of their gear. You as a player must take responsibility in finding a like-minded guild who you can run dungeons/fractals with.

I disagree that people won’t run older content. If you have a good guild, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be more than happy to help you out. Also, gw2lfg is a great way to run any of the dungeons, “old” or not.

And then there’s the huge delay in Laurel grinding per character because there’s 1 daily per account.

I usually avoid arguing about this, but my stance is that I honestly don’t see a problem with this. So long as you keep decently active in the game, Laurels come to you. Seriously, are you desperate for laurels…?

Dungeons can’t progress without agony resist

Patently false, but I’ll pretend you are talking about FotM. You can do FotM up to lvl 10 without agony. There are people that have gone to 30 without Agony, though you’ll die during Jade Maw.

and we all know that people already ask for specifc classes what makes you people think they don’t ask for maxed gear as well? I don’t do dungeons and even I know that.

And there are people that don’t. Choose to avoid the people who don’t want your class, and work with people who are okay with playing with you. You’ll be happier for it.

However, I’m also of the belief that you should always strive to improve yourself. So if you feel you don’t have optimal gear, work for it.

Interesting. I think some people enjoy leveling and gearing up alts. For some it wouldn’t be a grind at all.

I would say this. If you get your main to a decent level in FotM, chances are you’ve picked up enough pristine relics to equip at least one other alt with 2 rings. The longer you do FotM, the more surplus you’ll have of the materials such as regular fractal relics and pristines. It shouldn’t be too much of a hardship to equip an alt with the fotm gear needed to get it into the 20’s/30’s.

DigitalKirin.9714

As I’ve been working my way up through the levels in FotM, I’ve noticed that on the dredge bomb room there’s many a time when we’ll go to plant the bombs, run back and find that none of the bombs have exploded.

I have observed the excavators picking up the bombs. I believe that they can only hold one bomb at a time. At level 30, 40 and 48, about how many runs with bombs would you guesstimate you’d have to do before all the excavators “fill up” with bombs?

Also, is there a decent way of getting the bombs to explode without having the dredge pick up the bombs? We tried having 2 guardians do sanctuary to try to bounce the dredge away, but they seem to be able to pick up the bombs regardless.

Thanks for your time everyone!

Hmmm, possibly. I think I’m a bit more on the casual side of the spectrum, but fairly in the middle.

I think it’s important to know what satisfies your own personality. Some people play for the challenge, even if (or for some people especially if) it’s annoying and frustrating. Some people play for fun. I enjoy doing whatever satisfies my mood at the time I log in.

I don’t do a lot of everything. I do a bit of WvW, I haven’t really done sPvP except for when I’m messing around with my guildies (I die a lot cause I’m most used to using my warrior… and well warrior+sPvP…).

I’m more focused on working on a Legendary, but I’m not sweating the time to get it. I maybe make 2-3 runs a night in CoE for Charged Cores/Lodestones, but I enjoy it. I don’t farm CoF. I did like 4 runs in a row and then politely bowed out because it bored me to tears.

I do enjoy helping people. Guildies take priority, but if someone asks for help, I’m glad to lend a hand.

So yeah, I can’t say the playstyle is too far off. o_o)-b

Find a different computer that you know is safe. Overhaul all your passwords. Look into strong passphrases. http://xkcd.com/936/

On your current computer (the one you’re scanning like crazy):

Look into rootkit scanners. Hitman Pro, Emisoft Emergency Kit, Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit. Run these in Safe Mode. If you’ve picked up something that a regular anti-virus isn’t catching, then chances are it’s a rootkit. Anyways, since the info’s pretty general, this is only a suggestion and may or may not be the answer to your problem. You’ll only know when you try it

Dual Wield Fighting

I have tried swinging 2 weapons at the same time in real life. See eskrima/arnis:

http://youtu.be/Mf8jWtCdFWI?t=50s

Or even fencing with a dagger off hand or a main gauche is a familiar European style of dual wielding combat.

Also there is the Japanese style of combat with 2 weapons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miyamoto_Musakitten

hank you CMF, I was about to make this exact same post!

As a practitioner of martial arts for 14 years, I’ll say that it makes way more sense to alternate weapon strikes because the natural swinging of your body will carry one weapon into the other.

For heavier weapons, such as mace, it may not look as quick as certain dual swords, but there are dual weapon sets for things like Double Melon Hammers.

Why are people strongly against raids?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I also played FFXI – I have to say, I really enjoyed “raids” in that game. Dynamis was always a big one that I had a fun time doing. There were good strategies, but they were challenging to pull off, and as a Timed instance, you always felt under the gun to get to the next Time Extension mob.

Tbh, I wouldn’t mind if they implemented an instanced raid here. I think it’d be pretty cool to have an influence purchasable guild mission. Maybe make it like an instance of the WvW maps where you have to wrest control of certain camps, keeps or citadels. Have multiple bosses in each instance, but give you only time enough to be able to fight your way to one of them unless you strategically split up your raid. Iono, just off the cuff thinking, haha.

What’s your crit chance sitting at right now? Given your descriptions, I can only guess it’s around 40%. Swapping 200 precision to 200 vit will drop your crit by 9.5%. While that might seem like a chunk, it’s really not the end of the world.

The nasty part is my best Prec comes from my magi gear that also gives me hp + healing if i drop my Bez gear my crit damage falls right out trust me i tried i actually loose 15-20% crit damage making me hit like a wet noodle with bad tank

Converting from Berserker to Valkyrie leaves your power and crit damage intact and swaps precision for vitality. Since 21 precision = 1% crit chance, 200 precision loss would be a ~9.5% crit chance reduction. Then again, it’s 4 am, so my math might be off. Anyone care to check me?

ok so now your saying i should get awesome if i drop my staff for a sword

Nope, I didn’t say that. I addressed your concerns. Guardian has many tools akittens disposal. A good guardian knows when to equip them. May I suggest that in addition to carrying a gswd and staff that you have a sword, shield, focus, scepter.

Can you equip them all at the same time? Of course not. Know when you need one and when you need another.

i get flashing blade now i have 1 tele every w/e its cool down

Ten seconds. And you get the nice bonus of Sword having really good single target DPS. Plus, if you have an offhand focus, you also can pop the shield on it.

since i have a bonus to 2 handed wep cool downs

This trait really could go either way, imo. I personally don’t use it (I use Empowering Might, but that’s just me). I can understand wanting to use it if you’re going Gswd/Staff. If you’re worried about leaping, what’s better, though? An 8 second leap, or a 10 second leap and a 10 second teleport?

Retreat Ok yeah that’s along swiftness with a nice huge cool down to match it even with the shout trait
Save your self i already use this if i use that in a group fight i get a pile of conditions and i bleed to death ok in 1v1 its probably the best utility skill i have ever had

List of swiftness boosts for cutting travel time. I also recommend Pure of Voice since you’re a shout build. Save Yourselves→ Retreat to scrub any pesky condition you might have on you.

Judge’s intervention Ok now i can use that but i have to drop a shout and since i have the shout cool down i guess i could swap it out for my 3ed utility now i no longer have retreat but a target tele that has a nice long cool down that seems like a good plan to me

Any good guardian will know when to use the proper tool at the proper time. Equip it before combat if you feel like you’ve been lagging behind. Everyone faces opportunity costs. How you learn to deal with it is what takes you from a normal player into an excellent player.

awesome plan now go look at how a warr moves around and see if you can keep up with all of his dash and leap skills or even a ele or even a thief

Again, you’re really trying to make the guardian something it’s not by asking for more tools to catch up in mobility with certain classes such as Ele and Thf. (who have to trade off certain things to gain that mobility, btw)

I seem to recall you wanting your Guardian to heal your allies and be able to chase off an enemy who might try to stomp an ally, not chase down some of the most mobile classes in wvw. If you want to do that, you’re going to need to sacrifice something for it. You can’t be good at everything all the time. The nice thing about Guardian is that you’ve got the option to be good as lots of things at different times with Minimal Gear/Utility swaps.

I believe it’s fair as it stands. My follow up posts were merely to attempt to help him round out his build to address the weakness he sees in it.

How about doing Full zerk + ruby orbs for gear, or adding in knights or ruby where you feel like you might be lacking in defensive stats.

Then try 0/30/10/30/0 with Sword/Focus? For your Honor Traits, I’d go with Superior Aria, Empowering MIght, Pure of Voice.

Grab 3 shouts (Save Yourselves, Hold the Line, Retreat/Stand your Ground).

Renewed focus and your choice on Heal.

That’s not particularly bunkerish, don’t you think?

i burn off conditions faster then my guard so to me it sounds like ur doing something wrong

I burn off conditions equally as fast on my warrior as I do my guardian. They are both fully capable of doing so equally as fast. Guardian can potentially wipe conditions faster, I do believe, but it isn’t as optimal, in my humble opinion.

yes but to get the same condition burn i have to drop ALOT of damage making of no use in small gang fights i just become a slow low hp blob of armor trying to keep my friends alive

What’s your current build, and what build do you think of when you talk about a “slow low hp blob”?

I am curious if maybe we can help you create a better build.

Edit: I noticed that you said you geared your warrior dd but specced survivability. Is there something wrong with doing so with your Guardian?

Hmmm. Might need to compare what gear they have to see how much vit you’re getting from gear. Then also check which trait lines you’ve gone down. Did you do 30 in water? Did you do 30 in honor?

Wiki suggests that they have the same base.

The low hp pool is fair. Guardians have a tremendous amount of damage mitigation. A good guardian will know how and when to use Blind, Aegis and Protection to the best of their abilities.

If you feel you’re seriously lacking in condition removal, may I suggest looking at Pure of Voice?
