@Dirame @Nilix
Wanting some clarity on your posts.
- Are you using the new KR in your normal builds/play?
- Or do your posts refer to experiments you did with the new KR but you don’t actually use it in regular play?
Thanks.
I did use it for regular play for a while, yes.
yesterday I tried a build with just Tool Kit as kit… so I thought ‘hey: Kit refinement!’.
Than I realised: you idiot, just take speedy kits and run forever instead of 2 seconds each 20 seconds…
Thanks for all the input so far. Not giving up on KR yet
Out of combat, the TK KR is useless.
In combat is a different story. Super Speed gives you out of combat movement speed in combat, which can pose a significant advantage depending on what you’re trying to do. Mid-fight, I haven’t found it to be that useful, but a number of times I’ve chased someone into magnet range, or used it to run through a zerg with the shield up (both WvW scenarios).
That’s about it though. I’ve used the elixir gun in WvW to some effect, either trapping people in the glue during a fight which messes them up a little bit, or running away with it…
TK and EG KRs both enable running away… wonder if they’re trying to send us a message by changing the abilities to those…
Yea it seems Speedy Kits + EG KR is the way to go for escaping.

The reasoning behind this suggestion is, there are some builds that many minor traits don’t mix well with and it would be nice to turn off some of these traits if someone feels it’s actually a hindrance to playing effectively.
The current Engie build I run uses combo fields to gain stealth during combat, but unforunately because dodging creates bombs, I sometimes uninentionally dodge whilst in stealth to avoid a blow that would hit me and unwittingly reveal myself. It would be nice, in my case, to deactivate the evasive powder keg trait because of the disadvantages it brings to my build and the way I play it.
I really don’t know what you naysayers are on about. I guess everything you play revolves around Kit Refinement.
As for me, after the last two patches I’ve gotten more builds and both of which I can play in a competitive setting to great effect.
Lol sub-par or mediocre? What other class can unload all types of conditions on you before you can even blink?
I guess now we want map Random selection.
Matchmaking will fix itself in some time.
How about Pugs vs voice-chat premade? Where is the competitiveness?
We dont need leaderboard for that as it has zero value until solo-queuers and premades get separated. It has always been THE priority. But Anet is smart enough to know, unless they made some drastic change in pvp and balance to redeem themselves, the tpvp population currently is so thin that they cannot afford to separate the pre-made team from solo que.
We can forsee that the pre-made will now have to wait for ages to actually find a matchmaker, since obviously the majority of pvp population will go for solo que UNLESS they make the pre-made competition way more competitive and rewarding IN ADDITION to all the good changes in pvp.
Currently as far as I see, there won’t be too many competitive teams out there to play for 24/7 to actually fill out all the time gap between waiting, plus if a team is always against the same team and also on the losing side, they might as well just quit the pre-made and back to solo que.
Why would the losing team go into solo ques if they can only queue separately?
The truth is, if they brought the separation between solo queues and team queues again with the gem rewards AS WELL AS THE PROMISE OF MONTHLY AND YEARLY TOURNIES (I hope Anet is reading this), then we will see teams stay in team queues without budging and the people who find it absolutely irritating to fight organized groups (yes Anet devs, fighting organized teams is also scaring people away and not fighting organized teams is also pushing teams away) will stay in solo queues like the pros they are.
I think the problem here is, most people want matchmaking to be all about rank…. but it really isn’t.
i dont think anybody wants that. But you cant have 150 tournament wins without getting above the teens. If you cant have at least this number of wins you cant face premades of ransackers and champion titled people.
At low level , rank is a great tool of measuring experience whether you like it or not :P
I’m not arguing that it isn’t a way of measuring experience. What I am saying is, it’s not the way GW2 sets teams up. I’m not entirely sure about what it calculates but I’m guessing the variables include; amount of people available at the present moment.

Did you have a turret behind you? Because the Ele could have mis-targeted and you were in the way of what he was targeting.
Double post like a forum ninja
100%. There is no doubt in my mind it will be nerfed eventually. It is the best build in the entire game.
People have recently started to cry about it too. Even if it is the hardest build to play in the game, it WILL be nerfed. My only fear is that we’re left like warriors with no other alternatives that remain competitive in tourneys.
I don’t think it will be nerfed but then again, I don’t think it is the best build in the entire game.
Our might stacks can be on par with a Warrior. So yes, it will be nerfed.
Well, that isn’t the only way we can get 25 stacks of might in a condition build but hey I guess they’ll nerf the other way too. Or maybe they’ll consider it a risk/reward thing…. HGH being too easy and combo field might stacking being totally pro….. who knows. shrugs

Made a tank build based around Adrenal Implant but I agree that Armor mods isn’t……..[Challenge Accepted].
EDIT: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqyaX3SdF17IxoHfuzZOUhCL6h+pslB;ToAgyCuoixEjIGbMuYkxMEZuA
I made a build with Armor Mods (but you don’t need armour mods in it). T’was hilarious. Boon/Condition Build. Stack Retaliation, stack Might, Stack Regneration and pound your enemy with conditions up their nostrils, also they take damage from Rune of the Air. You could literally just keep spamming one and fast hitting characters kill themselves. Slow but hard hitting characters take a bit more time but you can kill them too. Nothing tourney worthy though.

Condi Engie, my special spec + Staff Ele or double dagger Ele
Even if they don’t bring GvG back, they have to bring HoH back. 5v5v5 was fun to watch.
[BROKE] ‘Repair is on the way’
[BROKE] Fix it Fast.ServiceMagic.Com
To fight a Ranger is simple, don’t fight them on the point and immediately you see them retrapping on top of where you are, you can move closer to them.
To fight an Ele, you need the wits of a Tiger. Dodge at the right time and pin them down at the right time and you won’t lose to them. For Eles, it’s all about timing.
As a shatter Mesmer never fight a bunker alone, or else they will waste your time.
My suggestion;
Wrench [RNCH]
many condition aoe fields in general can not be avoided with block
neither can necro marks if they trait it
^i like both of these mechanics – block is good enough on all classes as it is
If I was talking about that then what you are saying would be warranted but I’m not talking about traps or Marks.
The camera can be tricky with Asura but its only really noticable when doing things like jumping puzzles.
A very annoying bug with Asura Engineers is with the Elixir S skill, which shrinks you and makes you invulnerable, which is awesome but with Asura the camera will often bug out and zoom in&out rapidly and in some ways ruin the skill effect.
Other than that I take insult to you even considering some other brutish, stinky race or burpers, farters and tree humping plant ppl.
Very good day to you sir!
Don’t make your Asura super small, and you won’t have this problem.
Regardless of the retaliation thing, the OPs idea would work. Just stop using the FlameThrower when you get notice you’re taking damage from noting.
Well if we take out the NPCs and the fact that I must have been blind when I read the skill description for Eles, I guess that leaves us with Mirror Blade and Reckless Dodge.
I already posted this in the bug forums but I want to bring it into the limelight a bit further.
Gear Shield does not block these skills and traits
Lightning Strike from Legacy NPC Mages
Mirror Blade from Mesmer Greatsword
Magnetic Grasp from Eles
Reckless Dodge trait from Warriors
It’s really annoying to get killed by skills that are supposed to be blockable.
The difference between a good engineer and a bad one is miles apart. I usually hold my tongue in PvE if I see pistols, as long as they’re staying in grenades – but if we’re having trouble at the grawl fractal, and they’re using a flamethrower still, you can guarantee I’m gonna tell them how to play.
Is that really the case?
Is Grenade Kit truly the only way an Eng can be effective in a PvE party?
Are we really that limited in our PvE options?(Not criticising your post, Kamahl. Just want to hear if other Engs agree with or expand on your appraisal.)
If you want to use more brainpower than the usual engie, there are other (quite effective) builds for PvE. Some of them require foods and special buffs from Dynamic events but they are there.
cool.
Nice to hear. The Bomb Kit proc is one of those that seem really fun.
But I’m a bit surprised you find the tool kit proc that usefull.
You feel like it makes a difference, compared to taking speedy kits for example?
Nah, speedy kits lasts longer so it’s probably better but KF is still pretty good because when you’re crippled, you still seem to go just as fast. Using it in conjunction with Speedy kits can really make you feel uncatchable.
I tested it in my TK, BK kit combo. And when it Kit Refinement fires off from BK, it’s like I planned it all along. I feel like it adds an extra layer to my build because the speed boost from TK can allow me to do an Ele-esque getaway whilst dropping caltrops and then switch to Elixir Gun to leap out.
It’s so pro when it works, and no one cares when it doesn’t.
(edited by Dirame.8521)
I was thinking about Custom Arenas recently and an idea popped in my head; could we be allowed to set the boundaries of a map? For instance, could we be allowed to say only the middle of Legacy of the Foefire is a combat zone and everyone gets spawned around that area?
I believe having the ability to set boundaries around an area allows for less “running away to heal up” scenarios in the inevitable deathmatch arenas we’re going to get from customs.
If it’s a closed-off arena, like a pit, the ele would have to through walls to not die from conditions or some such nonsense.
I think the real problem will be the Shadow Refuge Thieves, they’ll just stealth for ages and wait for the right time to pop someone.
The Flamethrower however delivers relatively good, consistent damage that doesn’t come with a cooldown.
Flamethrower, consistent damage? Sorry, but we must be playing different games. Sometimes as simple as a strafe can make ol’ flamie miss multiple channels in a row.
It’s great for condition damage, you should try it sometime.
From the December 14th update:
The Engineer is a highly versatile class. While it doesn’t have the long range capabilities of the Ranger, or the melee capabilities of the Warrior or Guardian, they are comfortable at medium ranges in most fights. They have a lot of control, and use their boons to keep themselves (and allies) alive in a fight. They can use different kits based on the situation, but this extreme versatility comes at a cost in damage on their main hand weapons. They never explicitly say Jack-of-all-trades but they emphasize the versatility of the Engineer class, which I don’t feel that we have at the moment. I feel much more versatile playing my Elementalist than I ever have playing my Engineer. Plus, the full saying, “Jack of all trades, master of none,” fits very well with their design philosophy for the Engineer.
They have versatility, you just haven’t maximized that potential yet.
If you think this is bad, you should try giving an Ele that uses Tornado confusion and just watch the hilarity ensue.
A fight against a minion necro will be hard for you. A fight against a Mesmer would also be hard for you. BUT, the truth is, those people rarely come to the far point, smart teams would send a mesmer though.
I’m alright with the changes. I’m sure someone will figure out how to make things work in their favor with the new abilities.
You should understand that some build are just too good. Cases where there’s little chance for retaliation or the build just does too much damage. In those cases, things have to be nerfed.
Man if there is something engineer doesn’t need, is a condition buff.
Right now, we are one of the best condition class in the game. And it’s best build in tPvP.
Someone hasn’t played tournaments competitvely it seems. Condi engie has no real place in current meta. It used to be good when combined with pre nerf bombs but nowadays most ppl learned to avoid bombs either way.
Everything engie does, Ranger does better in this department.
Engie condition got double dipped by cleanse buffs and nerfs to sigil of earth + ICD + #1 pistol skill nerf + lots of other things.
I haven’t seen condi engie in a long time.
Lol unfortunately for the “Rangers” that do it better, I can kill them due to my ability to reapply conditions just as fast as they remove them. If I lose to a Ranger, it’s because he popped his elite and I had no counter off-cooldown.
And how can you say you haven’t seen a condi engie in a long time? Have you been playing SPvP at all? There’s NOTHING BUT condi Engies with P/P. To the point where it just kitten es me off.
But… engies are pretty good at conditioning though…. why would we need a buff? And if we did get a buff, where would it go?
Am i the only one worrying about this?
I have not created a single offensive build without the elixir B autouse on 75% health which is amazingly good. And most builds i use contain the swiftness+vigor permabuff as well.
Having 4 boons up, is supposedly going to make a difference for bunkers being easier to kill. Well if it makes even bunkers easier to kill then the result for someone running berserkers or rampagers amulett would be horrendous (and to some degree rabid as well, actually i still get instagibbed by thieves right now even if i go full bunker and have protection up but thats another story)
I feel like its already hard to justify using a very offensive build as an engineer because of the lack of stealth/defensive options. (With the single exception of elixir S which is kind of a must in these builds ofr tpvp. But even that only gives 1 reliable invul and the stealth is a 50/50 chance so not that good imo)
I remember someone from Anet saying “Engineers use boons to keep themselves and their teammates alive” will that be changed into “Engineers use boons to make themselves and their teammates die faster” ?
No Stealth and defensive options? Can you please recite the combo field table so the class can hear?
But I do agree, boon hate would seriously rip us to shreds because the minor trait is the first thing you get whether you like it or not.
Adrenal Implant and Vigor don’t stack but the moments where you are too busy executing something to switch weapons, you’ll have the 50% endurance regen.
In WvW, yea a damage build with these runes would work but in SPvP, probably not. For conditions, you don’t need HGH to might stack if that’s the build you speak of when you think conditions.
About Immobilize, my update to the build tanking build tackles that by using Cleaning Formula 409 but really when immobilized you can just throw down elixir R and it will remove it or you just block with gear shield for the duration of the immob.
A build is one thing but knowing how to play it is another and I doubt you’ll be able to practice any build we give you to peak proficiency before tomorrow.
My advice, stick to what you know.
Hi there,
I am looking for an Engineer build which focuses on condition damage utelizing burn and bleed and which is viable in open pve and dungeon scenarios.
i am havving a hard time finding something up to date and most discussions seem to go in go grenade or go home.
cheers
Well your best bet if you don’t want to use Grenades is, FT/EG Migh-stacking build. It can stack bleeds on crit, burns like a boss and you can also go for the bleeding on swap sigil if you want longer lasting bleeds.
And here’s a video explaining how it works; http://youtu.be/JmW__JFzDOQ
And unfortunately, because you decided to make me go do research on bombs, I’ve found some pretty cool things. Look out for a new build in the coming weeks.
Hmmm I run pure condition damage with a similar build, (an extra 10 points in explosives) wich are Toughness, precision, cond armor and power, vit, Cond jewels. Do bombs work better with power or condition damage?
While there are some CRAZY cool things you can do with the bomb kit whilst going with power, I believe the best uses come from condition damage but again, your mileage may vary.
(edited by Dirame.8521)
Well I’ve never played in WvW and in order to accurately say what you can do with this build in WvW, I would actually have to be a player of WvW.
But, thinking about it, I think you can use this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqel0pic3zy5F17IxoHdW0bW0jKbZK/pgcB-ToAg2CoI0SplTLjWStsaNWY+B
The idea is, you stealth yourself using combo fields or you have a friend stealth you, then you run into the zerg with double speed, knock everyone down with slick shoes and drop bombs on them, immob them first then unleash the rest. You can them proceed to be a pain in the kitten to kill by dodging repeatedly and stealthing yourself using the combo fields. Your friends can then clean up whilst everyone is focused on killing you.
The foods I would use are; Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew, I would also take Mango Pie if they can be used alongside each other and Master Tuning Crystal.
There might be other foods that I haven’t paid attention to but these are the ones that jumped out at me.
The build is just me formulating ideas. You guys who play WvW would be better at figuring out what would work and what wouldn’t.

That build website still confuses the hell out of me.
It destroys projectiles.
Wiki
Thanks for answering the question from the title but there was more to my question than that.
@GrackleFlint
You’re welcome. The build also works in other maps as well. In my vid I do show the two ways to spec it. The second way was mainly for other maps.
@Tyaen
The update to the build in the link above tackles that to a degree but doesn’t eliminate it completely. The only true way to deal with condition damage characters, is to cleanse and CC. If they stay out of your reach, there is no way you will survive against them.
Grenades and HGH are pretty good for AoE conditioning and are the easiest way to perform might-stacking on the Engi but there are other builds with just as much might-stacking and even better 1v1 survivability.
I’ve fought many HGH grenade Engies with the build I describe above and I’ve either beaten them or they drop their Elite on me and when someone pops an Elite on you, you know they are feeling the pressure.
leave supreme justice at 4 hits but make the activation burn the area around you as well.
i see potential in the trait like searing flame. removing a boon every 20 secs is just too long of a cool down to use it effetively. Reduce that to 3 seconds for each target individually and it could open up a lot of new builds. but maybe there are other ideas of effects that trigger when you apply burning like pbao 1 sec fury
oh, and the ticks from binding blade deal condition damage so maybe they factored that in as well – its not on the same multiplier as burn though
Nah, it would open up just one build and that’s guardians being the new boon reapers when Necros and Mesmers should be the ones in that position.
BUG;
Does Zealot’s Defense block or Destroy projectiles? Because right now, it isn’t proccing anything that claims to proc when you block.
What I mean is, if Zealot’s did block projectiles, you would see the “block” text come up when someone fires a projectile at you whilst using it. The truth is it doesn’t block projectiles, it DESTROYS them.
Why the emphasis on something that no one really cares about? You might ask. Well, skill descriptions can be a very deceitful if you put the wrong information on there. I thought Zealot’s Defense would “block” projectiles, thinking I would be able to stack might whilst using it but unfortunately I’ve been deceived and instead I got no might for my timely use of the skill. All because someone forgot to either change the text or make the skill actually block things and proc effects from said blocked things.
So my plea to Anet, please make Zealot’s Defense block projectiles or just change the description to say “Destroys projectiles” and remove the block duration tooltip.

The first link will tell you what skills the necro has that can be combo fields and combo finishers, the second link will tell you what combo finishers do to different types of combo fields.
Hi Dirame,
I’ve wanted to make a build like this for a long time, but never thought of using Runes of the Adventurer and Med Kit swap. Thanks for the cool videos and guide.
Do you ever use Elixir R to chain multiple dodges or do you save it for stun breaks only and consider the Endurance refill a bonus? It seems weird to have a stun break come with endurance refill since stuns usually happen as openers when our Endurance is full already.
Hey Grackle,
I save it for stun breaks but I also use it when I know I’m going to need a few more dodges to get out of the red zone.
The self-revive can also be a pain for people to deal with when coupled with a Big’Ol Bomb which is on a 20s cooldown with this build.
