It’s GREAT, really that you support and are all for the current build of the game. OTHERS have other opnions!

Enjoy playing!

To be clear, you’re saying that the game should be designed so that a higher-level player can ruin the experience of multiple lower-level players just by playing in one of their zones?

That’s how it is in every other MMO. I’m thinking that’s what he’s used to and explains his attitude here.

If only there was an official Anet communications person who could make sure that Anet communications, wherever they are made, were cross-posted on the Official GW2 Forums or Website! Its great that a player thought of doing this (thank you OP) but I can’t imagine that no one at Anet was able to think of it… Or maybe they just didn’t want to promote the official GW2 Site / Forums for some strange reason?

ArenaNet admitted they have been intentionally designed to be unreasonably difficult, but that this was okay because they were purely optional content that was not necessary to complete the holiday events.

Imagine this attitude at a party. “We know that everyone is going to want a champagne toast at this New Years party, but we have intentionally gated the champagne behind long boring lines and tests of skill that many of you can’t accomplish because you have been drinking. That’s OK though because the champagne toast is purely optional. Its not like it is necessary or anything…”

News Flash Anet: NOTHING is “necessary” during a Festival except FUN! Players should be able to do things if they want to do them! And not be required to do things that are a huge, grindy chore or gated behind twitch skills in order to get the “fun Festival rewards” that they want!

If players like a huge challenge for a JP, why not let them choose a higher difficulty if they want? Just like in single-player games you can choose to play on Normal, Medium, or Hard. You don’t get anything extra for doing it, you do it because you enjoy the challenge. But luckily in single-player games everyone isn’t forced to all do the same difficulty.

I loved the old Festivals which were flexible so that players could gain the achievements doing things they LIKED to do. Imagine that – people doing things they like to do during a Festival.

Now the Festival activities seem “manufactured” by some large corporation that has a hidden agenda, rather than simply fun activities that also reward you with something nice. This year I looked at the achievement page and thought they weren’t too bad except for the JP. But after doing the first 2 stages of the drinks I saw “1,000” and I thought “what?!”. Now I hear the next is 10,000 – how stupid.

And for those who insist that the JP is easy, I’m sure there are things you simply can’t do IRL (sing, do calculus, whatever). Telling those of us who are terrible at JP that we just have to practice is like telling someone who can’t do something IRL that its actually easy if you just practice. And by the way, if you can do the Festival JP you aren’t bad at JP. Bad at JP = I sometimes can’t even get a Vista if there is jumping involved.

Great response, I agree. We have a right to express our opinion in the forum as long as our posts are within the rules.

I am in a very small guild of friends who used to play regularly. We all had different schedules but every now and then our schedules aligned and we enjoyed playing GW2 together. As HoT approached, Anet started neglecting the game. No new stuff or even replay of old Festivals until the expansion came out. After a while, my friends and I started playing less and less. Finally, Halloween and then the Expansion. We come back only to discover that Anet has decided that our Guild doesn’t count. Since 3 of us are hardly on at one time, and we only party up about half the time as we are often working on different stuff, our Guild is dead. So much for playing as I enjoy.

And the same goes for Mastery Points. It isn’t a question of whether I can find a way to do them. It is a question of whether it will be fun.

With all due respect, Sir/Ms., your sincere disappointment isn’t shared by many, even if valid from your particular point of view.

Really? You polled all the players in the game? Can I see the data?

Are you serious? Did you read at all (even the small sentence you are quoting)? And was I disrespectful to you in any way or fashion as you are being to me there?

How am I being disrespectful? I asked a question. You state that my disappointment isn’t shared by many. How could you know that if you hadn’t received opinions from them?

Just as a heads up, the Mastery Points for Personal Story are awarded on a per-chapter basis. So once you complete Chapter 1 and earn the Achievement for it, you’ve earned the Mastery Point for Chapter 1. This includes each different starting storyline: I believe the right names are: Graduation Day, For The Legion!, Crime and Punishment, Rising to the Challenge, and Waking from the Nightmare. Similarly, whichever Order you join, there’s just one Mastery Point there.
Hopefully this helps clarify the total number of Mastery Points you should be expecting from your previous accomplishments in Tyria. That said, the different stories really are fantastic, and should definitely be experienced, but for your own pleasure, and not for Mastery Points.
If any of you still think you are missing MPs from Achievements you’ve completed, let us know via the in-game Bug Report tool and we’ll try to identify if there’s a bigger issue happening.

This is pretty disturbing: HoT has been out for a month, and I’ve seen countless posts regarding missing Mastery Points, yet we should file Bug Reports to help them decide IF there is a bigger issue? I assumed they were already working on the bigger issue or maybe had already found a fix!

It takes literally a few minutes to redo the Karka Queen. Most jumping puzzles can be portaled with mesmers, and there are often mesmers portaling them. I’m not sure why it’s so hard to get more points for you, but many of them aren’t that hard.

By contrast the story achievement rewards are considered hard y a lot of people

You know, I have done all jumping puzzles but the one in Silverwastes. And yes, Karka Queen is no problem. But that is 2 points, when to be able to craft one of the new legendaries I would need 12 points. At the end of the day the question is – is this game fun for me, and do I want to keep spending my time in it? If something is not fun, and impacting my enjoyment seriously enough, I will try and let the devs know about it. Which I am doing here. And that has nothing whatsoever to do with how much (or not) you enjoy the game, nor will you trying to dismiss my experience as invalid help matters in the slightest.

I’m not asking for a Legendary/[insert rare item here] today. But I don’t want it five months from now, either.

When does waiting becomes waiting for too long? That’s the question. There’s a boundary where the whole experience becomes off-putting. If players do not enjoy something, or rather, if an activity does not provide pleasure, then people will simply shy away from it. I’m not asking for 100% enjoyment, but rather 70% or 60%. What’s sad is that the percentage is far, far lower than that.

I know what you mean. I was very excited back when I found out we could craft Mawdrey. But after a few months, I wasn’t excited anymore. Now I have a bunch of the items in my bank and they are just sitting there. At some point I will probably get the rest of the mats by just playing, but the drive and excitement to complete it is gone.

Mawdrey only took me a week or two O.o. If you do a bunch of fractals and get the LWS2 story out of the way that’s a majority of what you need to do. Collecting the clay in Dry Top isn’t too bad, you just gotta go there for a bit.

I’m glad that Mawdrey only took you that long. I’m not sure what your point is – is this a race? Ok, you win.

I wasn’t playing GW2 to make Mawdrey, I was playing the game. In the process of playing the game (doing the Living Story, etc.) I was receiving things to make Mawdrey. But apparently unless I went out of my way to grind (I was playing in Dry Top) and do things I don’t ordinarily do (like Fractals), I wasn’t getting very far making Mawdrey. Eventually Mawdrey just fell off my radar.

I wasn’t making it a competition; no need to be snippy. Mawdrey takes very little time and effort (vitrually no grinding) versus what it takes to make these precursors.

And it is fine that your “very little effort” is quite different from my “very little effort”. I did, in fact, spend very little effort on Mawdrey. And I did spend effort doing things that I normally wouldn’t do in GW2. But ultimately I wanted to play the game my way, not grind in Dry Top or Fractals. So no Mawdrey for me.

And my point is not to complain about it – that was my choice. My point was to say that I understand people who don’t want a huge grind and want to obtain things by just playing the game. The problem is that Anet wants to force people to play in ways they might not want to play instead of offering reward paths that could be taken no matter how you like to play.

Its like the Dailies – they get in the way of playing the game. You used to be able to do the Dailies while you were playing the game in the way you wanted to play. Now you have to go to a specific zone or do some other very specific thing that takes you away from what you want to do.

I just talked to someone in-game who told me about the buff and the stacks (which I didn’t understand). At the end of the last event I did (right before I made this post), I stayed in the event until the Mad King sent us to the Cauldron. Yes, I was inside the orange circle the entire time. After leaving the Cauldron and pressing 6 to leave the Costume Brawl I still had the Mad King’s Favor buff with the number 13 in it. I noted that as I stood there talking to people in-game about why I didn’t get any key pieces, the buff was slowly counting down.

I filed a bug report, but I’m still upset because I am going out of my way to attend these events so I can get the chest but I’m not getting the key pieces.

And to answer Red Queen, no I didn’t do all 4 in one day. This one 2 hours ago was the first one today. The other 3 were: 1 time a couple days ago and 2 yesterday.

That’s an interesting opinion considering that the game’s entire story is based around two guilds of five people or less.

This is a silly argument, but I’ll bite for fun.

Those guilds, once formed, are perfectly in line with anet’s definition of a guild. A group’s worth of people (5) or more.

In fact, the entire Destiny’s edge storyline is about how they failed because they were missing one member

Does Anet actually state this? What I saw was a group of people who blamed another person for their own failing. I didn’t see any actual proof that missing 1 person was the single reason they failed.

The whole storyline is about how they were stronger together than they were split up.

Yes, it was a story about people in general being stronger when they do things together. And that is true whether it is 2 people or 30. There was nothing in the story that suggested they needed a magical number of 5.

I don’t understand why this NPC is called a “Merchant” and a “Vendor”. This NPC is properly called a “Grifter” or a “Swindler”. I really don’t understand why Anet put this in the game.

“Double-click to destabilize and gain globs of ectoplasm and valuable junk items in random amounts.”

Let’s analyze that sentence:

“Double-click to destabilize and gain globs of ectoplasm”. This means you will both destabilize AND gain globs of ectoplasm in addition to valuable junk items (what does valuable mean? Valuable in relation to globs of ectoplasm?).

Very misleading and easily misunderstood sentence. If I was a tinfoil hat-wearing type I might say that someone deliberately crafted that sentence in order to fool players into thinking it was a good trade.

Shadow Dye Kit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Djinn.9245

I bought 5 of them, and ended up 4 blues and 1 green.
Anet said there’re 10 new dyes out of 25 choices lol…
But instead of having 10/25 chance of getting the new dye, I bet the actual percentage to get those new dye is like 1%.
If the chance is really 10/25, the chance of not getting any shadow dyes in 5 consecutive rounds is 7.7% (0.6 to the power of 5).

The problem is that you are looking at all 5 items as a whole. But it doesn’t matter at all that you opened 5 or that you opened them consecutively. The game does not remember what you got from opening the first item or any of them. So each time you open the item you have a blank slate chance to get any one of the 25 dyes. Random means you could fail to get any Shadow Dye, it even means that you can get the same dye 5 times in a row.

Potential Party Kicking Feature Flaw?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

So I was thinking about this new feature really helping prevent some of those rage kicks that have been seen, but I also realized a potential flaw in the system.

Assume you’re in a dungeon with a party of 5 and 3 of them dc stating they have to go without leaving the party. I realize there is an inactivity timer that removes them, but we as players would normally have 2 options: wait for them to be kicked from party by the game or request a second for kicking them.

Currently the 3 vote system leaves 2 players stranded in a situation like that if the game doesn’t check to see if the status of a dc’d player is offline because using the Leave Party option would disconnect you from the dungeon instance.

I personally haven’t tested this as I haven’t run into it yet, but I was wondering if anyone else can validate my concern or dismiss it?

While this scenario probably could happen I can’t imagine it would happen very often. Certainly not enough to change the system for.

I figured the fastest thing to do is kick the bully. And surprise it comes up that I decided to kick them. The bully then turned their attention all on me and made it unbearable to stay. I left. Later I was messaged that another person from the group wanted to help, but didn’t want what happened to me to happen to them.
I think the kicking should be kept anonymous to the person being kicked for this reason. It’s crippling the more timid individuals and giving the jerks an advantage.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but grow some skin man. You CAN mute the guy. And you SHOULD have muted the guy. If he started making bad pulls to continue screwing with you after you muted him, or anything of the like, then I doubt anyone would object to kicking him. Soooo…. yeah. Grow up is the best I can tell you.

I’m not sure what “grow up” has to do with anything. Pointless insult.

Kicking should stay anonymous

This is a good change imo.

The major reasons for bad behavior on the internet is anonymity and lack of consequences. Most of the people acting up in the internet wouldn’t dream of acting like that in rl where people know them or there are immediate consequences. If the anonymity is stripped away from kicking for bad reasons, the person kicked can now report if it was against TOS or speak to the party before the kick finishes. People who might second a kick for no reason will now hesitate to do so.

It gives social reasons to behave well, which is how people have handled society offenders through time immemorial.

I completely agree – good change.

[Suggestion] Putting a CAP on Currencies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I believe they should not cap currencies because a big idea in MMO’s is that the player accumulates resources.

They should continue to introduce new currencies for new events like SW so no one can buy the new armor set straight off. But also introduce an extra account wallet for all the new currencies that come along, so things like Bandit crests, Queens Gauntlet tickets, SAB tokens etc don’t swamp the character inventory and account bank.

There also need to be more ways to spend old currencies such as Karma. That currency reflects badly, makes it look like Anet introduce and abandon currencies and lack inspiration or interest in making them relevant to veteran players. When people have invested time playing and earning a currency, it should feel like it was a reasonably rewarding experience.

I understand that Anet probably wants new currencies and ingredients in your inventory to encourage buying inventory space. But how about only having a certain number in inventory? After introducing a new currency, move the oldest one still in inventory to the wallet or ingredient storage. Although I think they might already be doing this since Halloween and snowflakes have been moved to ingredient storage.

I completely agree with your comments on Karma.

I took a break from playing around Wintersday event. I usually play GW2 for 2-4 hours a day. (more if i have time) I usually have a game in my browser that I’m workin on. Durring his particular break, there was nothing I wanted to play so I didn’t play at all.

I gotta tell you, I feel great. The aches and pains in my neck, shoulders, right arm and back improved immensely. I thought it was just age creeping up on me. I never realized what a hurting MMO’s were putting on me physcally. Ironicly, I’m in pretty good shape. I run and workout 4-5 times a week.

Am I just the odd man out? Has anyone else experienced this?

I used to have similar problems which all cleared up when I improved my posture at the keyboard.

Old players being able to instantly buy new rewards is fine: that’s the benefit of being an old player and having played enough to have that much currency.

If people think they have enough of a currency and they don’t want any more, get rid of it yourself. The only reason to want a cap is to force everyone else to have the same currency limitation as you.

I’ll redirect you here:

anet has straight up said they cant use things like karma/tokens in other content because it would give older players too much of a headstart. The end result is a lot of near worthless currencies, and new ones all the time

I think that’s reason enough to put a cap in some currencies. The reason they are adding new currencies instead of using the old ones is BECAUSE there is no way to prevent older players from making content obsolete the moment it’s released.

A cap is a way of fixing that. Got a better solution? We can discuss it, I never said that the cap is the one and only perfect solution. But you can’t deny the existence of that problem. The problem IS REAL.

Older currencies are a current reward. If they want to cap them they would have to rework whole systems and figure out a different reward. People deserve to be rewarded for what they do the same as everyone else. If people reach a cap, they might decide to stop doing the activities that reward those currencies since they won’t be getting that part of their reward. Anet won’t want to give people a reason not to play.

Regarding Warpaint/Facepaint

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It really should NOT be in makeover style kits… its a mask thing. U sould make them masks that u can dye and hide like other headgear. The warpaint makes me feel like it was a lazy way to get around with only one new face model and call it 3…. The faces (at least for charr that I main) are identical.

  • For charr there have only been 1 face/gender released – not 3. And the female one has clipping issues with the eyes. I liked that face apart from the clipping wich I hope gets fixed asap
  • Apart from 2 faces in total for charr, there have been 4 permanent war-paints too… wich u cannot hide or dye….

Not impressed

I agree.

Oh, the anonymity of the kick process was lifted?

So, it’s okey to have kick wars now?
As in, you and your buddy try to get rid of a troll in the group, the troll and his buddy try to get rid of you and both are trying to convince/bribe the third person, who just can’t grasp the situation, to back them up?

I can’t imagine that this would happen very frequently, but if the majority of the group is going to kick you because you are trying to kick someone who is being nasty then I wouldn’t want to group with them anyway. Report any offenders and block them all and move on.

This is why knowing the kickers is good: you can block them.

I just don’t understand why they made the change. It doesn’t make any sense to me. But maybe if the devs explained why they made it there is a good reason we don’t know about.

I agree with OP, I don’t understand the need to do this, it just opens it up for people to be bullied.

Report and block. You can’t be bullied if you have blocked the bully.

I am sorry that you and the other people in the party had to put up with that kind of thing. However no one should be “afraid” of another person harassing them: report them and then block them. Done. I even report / block if the person is harassing someone else and not me. After reporting/ blocking I would whisper the others in the party stating that I have reported and blocked the offender – they should do the same and we should kick him. Communication with the party would probably have helped.

Unfortunately there are people who abuse the “kick” system which is why I believe it should remain the way it now is.

I also would like another chance to pick this up.. laurels would make the most sense, just like the Living Story season 1 rewards. I’d really like the Tree in my home instance also.

Going away for a holiday shouldn’t be a punishment!

What do you do that make you be able to go away for almost a month? its not like the xmas thing only ran for 1 week during the holiday mate.

First, none of your business? lol

I have had problems with event turn-ins myself. I was going to turn-in my Escape from Lion’s Arch items toward the end of the event but then we had a death in the family. I wasn’t exactly thinking about logging in for a few days and then the event was over.

I have never understood why the event vendors can’t remain active for some time after the event. I would say they should stay for a month or so. What does it hurt?
