What they need to change is how most of the traits will either take forever to unlock (100% Completion of Harathi Hinterlands? No.), or requires a Team because you have to fight a Champion (For an Adept Trait? Come on). Overall, Traits should be more Challenging than Skill Challenges but less Challenging than Group Events, and you shouldn’t have to waste more than 10-15 minutes unlocking them if they catch your interest.
I am tired of these changes that direct you to play in this specific zone, etc. If they want us to “earn” traits through play, give us generic tasks that we can do in whatever zone we want to play in. Each completed task can give us a Trait Point in the appropriate tier which we can spend on whatever Trait in that tier we choose. Like if Jumping Puzzles are a task you can do to get an Adept Trait, you can do any Jumping Puzzle you choose. Or they could even time gate it if they want you to not do the same task over and over. You can get a Trait Point for each different Jumping Puzzle you finish or wait a week to do the same JP and get a Trait. Something like that.
If every time you see a negative comment from the same player time and time again without any constructive suggestions, and they don’t have any complementary posts, then complainer is an appropriate term. It’s considerably less pejorative than whiner or QQ.
I don’t feel the need to judge a person or call them names. I comment on their words, not the person.
But we already have Achievements for doing “normal” stuff. Critter kills and weapon kills for instance. Raising your crafting skill. Exploring the world. Etc. They’re just not tiny enough to get daily.
The daily to me had always been a way to direct players around the world and do particular activities that impact the economy, as well as provide a slight structure to their play for a minor reward. Now the individual activities are more specific and the reward higher (chest). Maps that may not have had a lot of players visiting before are now packed (somewhat problematic).
Personally I did it for the Laurel and now that they are a login reward, the need to do the daily has subsided greatly for me. Achievement chests have very little value IMO and getting the next one wasn’t a driving force behind getting AP. More like a happy surprise when it did drop.
Current Dailies only direct some players. WvW people get their Dailies for doing the normal things they do already. They don’t have to go to a particular place or play a specific race, etc. Those type of Dailies are not balanced. Leave the play a specific race in so PvP people have that option if they want it, but how are the directed PvE helping anything?
Not every WvW player captures keeps. Or captures ruins. Or goes to kill the veteran mobs.
No? Isn’t that the point of WvW – attacking and capturing the opposition resources for your side?
I disagree with the inclusion of “complainer” or “complainers” as absolute terms to avoid. A complainer is simply someone who is complaining.
Nope, labeling a person something negative is always an attack.
I will immediately disregard the entirety of any post making active use of these slurs
Fighting ad hominem with the equivalent of ad hominem!
lol/10
It is only common sense to ignore rude people. How is that ad hominem? Please explain.
You should add Folks to the list. That slur refers to people in general. I am not a person in general. I am a unique person and not in any general sense, and I consider it an offensive personal attack against me that you would use the word Folks, as if to group all of us together.
I’m confused about this one – “folks” means “people”.
My point is that most of those words on the list aren’t anymore offensive than the word folks. The word Complainers especially. You’re trying to imply that we shouldn’t make a post replying to everyone complaining about something, and must use some English gymnastics to say what I want to say in a different way? Yeah, I’m not that good with gymnastics, in any form, so, I’ll keep using Complainers.
There is a huge difference between calling something written “a complaint” and calling a person “a complainer”. Applying this type of label to a person is an attack. Talk about what people say, not about the person.
I really thought phrasing this as a personal statement and encouraging others to do what they feel is right for them would deflect negativity.
I really was trying to do a good thing, here.
People can be funny. I don’t know how many arguments I’ve gotten into regarding things that seemed pretty straightforward. Its surprising what people will argue for or against.
Seriously?
These are not “forum slurs”, these are more like “overused words/terms”, if anything. “slur” implies much more negative feelings than words like “complaining” deserve. Look up the definition of complaining, you are literally doing it yourself right now. Want me to use a word other than the true one so I can avoid hurting your shiny feelings or something?
Calling someone a “complainer” is not the same as saying something about someone “complaining”. In the first, you are attempting to label a person. In the second you are labeling their behavior.
A good list but I will debate “toxic.” I mean if it’s aimed at one person, as in “you are making a toxic post,” sure. But I think the term applies nicely to some overall behaviors discussed vis a vis champ train disputes and “fail farmers” versus “event completers.” Likewise “complainers” would need to be viewed in context to see if it were a slur meant to deride or a simple description of people with concerns to air.
So don’t be as draconian and undiscerning as the feline filter
“draconian”? ROFLMAO

I’d like to know where are the new hairstyles advertised on the sale in gemstore today, because I didn’t find them in the make-over kits I bought.
If you bought the kits because you thought there were new hairstyles, contact Customer Support for a refund.

I already avoid using these terms (and I believe you do also) but I’m behind this idea. Some people have to criticize a person instead of disagreeing with the idea. The forums would definitely be a better environment if people could stop bashing others.
I love the idea of Cultural Armor, the unique look to reflect each of Tyria’s playable races is cool and immersive…but it falls short in the following areas:
- It’s expensive, costing coin. Why not Karma? After all, Karma reflects the efforts you have made helping out your home and allies.
(Tier 1 Set: 2.88 gold/ Tier 2 Set: 7.7 gold/ Tier 3: 119 gold) <—that last step is a doozy!
- Stats are limited. They should be select-able stats (all gear should be!) before equipping. Or, make them skins, like the WvW stuff.
- Tier 3 is Rare Quality not Exotic, for the cost, this is unacceptable.
- Not really sure why we need three “tiers” of Cultural Armor, level 80 Exotic would suffice.
I completely agree with these issues and I think Tier 3 should be Exotic.
What I dislike especially about events in the starter zone is I have to make a choice whether to about help others find events.
People are asking in map chat “where are events?”
1) An event pops up near me. I ping the waypoint and give fast directions. By the time I get there, the event is almost over and by the time the people that listened to me get there, it’s done. They wasted silver and time listening to me and got nothing.
2) One pops near me but I say nothing. It still makes me feel bad because I’m not helping others who are repeatedly asking about events.Either way I feel like I’m get in a lose/lose situation with these events. I want to be social and help others but I’m getting into situations where either I almost trolling people or I’m keeping events to myself.
I had the same thoughts. I feel bad when I announce an event and a bunch of people come running after its over.
I don’t know how they would balance the fact that they can be permanently invisible with the other races in WvW and PvP. Doesn’t seem likely that they would use this race for PCs.
There’s a lot of NPC gear that I would like. I’m not so interested in the provocative stuff like this (although I think its fine for others), but more choice is always good.
What I know is that new players see the talk about events in chat and get all excited that something is happening and want to join in. They say “omw” or “wait for me” but they have to run there because they have no WP yet. So by the time they get there the event is long-done. Then they get really frustrated if they do that more than once. How do I know? I see it in chat.
Do all new players do this? Obviously I can’t say that. But it does happen and I have seen at least one say they were quitting. And that’s just my limited experience spending 10 min in the zone.
And previous to this, I’ve seen people complain in chat about how dead the zones are because they barely see anybody. I’ve also seen people say they’re going to quit because the truthful response at the time was that pretty much only a few zones are ever full of people, and that’s generally the ones that are currently optimal for grinding.
I’m certain that there are new players who just go about their business, but I also know it is affecting some new players negatively.
And I know that previous to the changes, dead zones also affected some new players negatively.
Except that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. They could give a choice of zones which would spread people out more. Currently the starting zones that don’t have the daily have the same population they had before anyway. So only players who happen to be in the zone with the daily are seeing any increase in population and only on that day. But the increase is too large. A choice would spread the population out more.
. . . which was what happened with the old ones too.
there was a bit more choice though. WvW was separate from PVE and for both you had to complete 5 out of 10 I think, which is better that having to complete 3 out of 4 (4 per PVE, Spvp, WvW). I do appreciate the reward chests for each one and it only taking like 10 minutes to finish the dailies now though, but still, more choice would be welcome.
An individual’s personal preferences for one game mode or another does not mean A.Net has limited their choices to 3/4. It’s still 3/12.
We completely understand that personal preference (choice) doesn’t matter to you. It does matter to those who are writing about it. You don’t need to continually discount our feelings. We are expressing our opinion (feedback) to Anet. They are big boys and girls and can decide if our opinions are worth anything.
Perhaps you should simply write your own feedback about the Dailies (instead of your feedback on others opinions).
Ultimately the new daily system, and complaints regarding it, are not so much, at their core, about choices or freedom but rather about rate of reward acquisition.
A player that preferred to play in zone X, to do jumping puzzle Y, kill N mobs, and so on still has the choice, the freedom if you prefer, to do so. He generally will not, however, be rewarded at the same rate as was the case before.
Every zone in the game, almost any activity in which you might prefer to engage. grants AP. A player can continue to gain rewards playing essentially however they choose, including how they chose to play before the daily changes. A player wanting to maximize AP gain will likely need to go out of their way, but such was the case before (to a greater degree).
No, when there were more open PvE choice I rarely had to go out of my way to gain the Daily AP.
Why did you say, “no,” and then agree with my point ?
I’m disagreeing with this (which was your point):
A player wanting to maximize AP gain will likely need to go out of their way, but such was the case before (to a greater degree).
“Maximize AP gain.”
This means getting the maximum possible amount of AP from the system. Are you saying that you got every last possible AP out of the old daily system, including the PvP options, without going out of your way?
Could you even get 10 AP out of the system, which would not even be maximizing your AP gain, without going out of your way?
How did you get player kills (which would be required as part of “maximizing AP gain,” while playing in PvE?
“Maximize” also means “making the best use of”. I try to get the most AP I can while not grinding and still having fun (to me). So I don’t try to get every single AP no matter what, but I do try to get the most AP while still having fun playing the game. In that light, the new Dailies have caused me to not get as many AP as I used to because sometimes the choices are not something I’m going to go out of my way for. So sometimes I don’t get the Daily reward at all (-10AP) vs the old system where even if I didn’t get the Daily reward I still got 2 AP for completing what I wanted.
And once again we get shoved in a lvl 1 area (!!!) to do events – Metrica province – and AGAIN fractals. So Anet can say goodbye to any new player who started today and made an Asura as first character.
You’re assuming a new player will be more concerned with getting events done than exploration, and hearts and vistas and such don’t count for the daily, so people aren’t farming those.
What I know is that new players see the talk about events in chat and get all excited that something is happening and want to join in. They say “omw” or “wait for me” but they have to run there because they have no WP yet. So by the time they get there the event is long-done. Do all new players do this? Obviously I can’t say that. But it does happen and I have seen at least one say they were quitting. And that’s just my limited experience spending 10 min in the zone.
Other new players are frustrated that a bunch of people are running around doing things which the new people don’t know about. And others are frustrated that areas of the map are being pinged that aren’t revealed yet for them so they don’t know how to get there. (Again from chat.)
I’m certain that there are new players who just go about their business, but I also know it is affecting some new players negatively.
The sheer number of chests in this game is overwhelming. From leveling, rank ups (WvW and PvP), dailies, logging in, etc. They all appear at the bottom shaking and glittering and driving me mad!
And then I’ll open a chest which gives me a chest which I open to reveal bags that possibly give me more bags that I have to open to get gear I now have to salvage.
I know the intent is to provide that Christmas feeling of “ZOMG! Presents!” but it’s just pure tedium.
Please streamline this. Or at least make them less intrusive. For example:
- Only make them shake and shine for 5 seconds or so.
- If the player doesn’t open them within that 5 seconds, just stack them up so I can open them when I want to.
- If the player opens a chest with other containers in it, just open those containers automatically.
I completely disagree. Receiving stacking “containers” in your inventory is MUCH better than getting all kinds of different stuff that would fill up my inventory. Yes its more clicking but I definitely prefer the current method.
The only improvement I would suggest is being able to open a “stack” from your inventory. So you separate your “containers” into a stack of 10 (for instance) because you know you have enough room for the contents of 10 containers. Then you right-click and choose “Open All”. That would save some clicking.
There’s some earlier back items now, available via crafting.
He’s talking about the Universal Multitool Pack which is an Engineer gear choice at character creation where most ppl choose hats.
If the entire game is more and more restrictive
It is a good thing that the exact opposite is true then.
Here are my examples of systems in the game where choice has been reduced:
-Costumes reduced from individual pieces to entire outfits.
-NPE: low levels are shown less choice of things to do (gathering, Skill points, etc.)
-Traits
-Dailies: less open PvE choices per day
-Dailies: less choice of where you can go to complete your open PvE Dailies. PvP: less choice of what class you can use to complete certain dailies. Etc.
-Dailies: removed choice of using Dailies in Festival Completion
Now, you claim that there are actually more choices in the game. Please illustrate.
The changes to costumes included new option(s) such as wearing outfits in combat and the wardrobe system. I dont like that gaining new options/choices that people had been asking for since launch came at the cost you mention, but it is not an example of a net loss of choices and, given the reasons stated for the change, can be argued to be a net increases in options for more players.
I don’t like the trait changes. At all. I have an empty character slot that is likely to remain empty for that reason, but the trait changes actually add an option that did not exist before. Before your only choice for unlocking traits was to buy them. Now you can buy them or unlock them in play. Again, I dislike the changes (intensely) but they did add an option.
The changes to the daily system increase your options for how to get rewards associated with dailies in the past (AP and laurels). Previously you had to log in and complete dailies in order to get AP and laurels. Now you can log in and do essentially anything in the game and you will get laurels and AP. The AP gain is greater if you do dailies but that is a matter rate of acquisition of rewards, not of removed choices. Remember, if you want to do 10 dodges, make 25 underwater kills, etc you can still choose to do so. I am honestly curious as to what makes you think that you can no longer dodge ten times, gather wherever you want, make 50 kills, res other players, etc? How has your choice to perform those activities been taken away?
On the other hand we have more choices in what to do in PvE (playing content that didnt exist before is a new choice).
WvW includes new choices such as rank points for character development.
There are new choices in how to earn dungeon rewards (PvP tracks)
By increasing rewards in both PvP and WvW since launch Anet has increased the choices in how to get rewards in game.
To be perfectly frank I have serious reservations about the direction of the game post launch but we have more choices/options now than then. Not liking the increased options/choices is not the same as them not existing.
However, this is not “the exact opposite”. Some choices have been added (I’ll take your word on the WvW and PvP areas). Some things you call “choices” such as additional content are expected for any game. Even DDO which is 8 years old is still adding content. When a game stops adding content it is dead. Sure its more choices but hardly anything to crow about.
What it comes down to is: at best the new choices equal the number of choices that were removed. So zero sum. However the new choices do not give me more freedom in how I play. New rewards aren’t going to let me go where I want and do what I want. The best new choice is the wardrobe (including being able to wear town clothes over armor). IMO that is the single “new freedom” item that was added to the game. Other new stuff is either expected (content) or does not affect my ability to choose at all. So from my perspective the net result is great loss of freedom of choice.

Now, you claim that there are actually more choices in the game. Please illustrate.
Another choice removed – I can no longer choose to work for my Laurel or whatever each day. It’s no longer a choice, I just get whatever it is delivered directly to me. I don’t even get the choice of which 5 of 12 incredibly simple things to do will earn me the Laurel. It just happens, from time to time.
Oh, and I no longer get the choice of crossing fingers each day and hoping my Daily Completion will give me a gem store item I will actually use.
And finally, I lost the choice to stop at 5 AP for the day, or just keep right on rolling and maybe hit 7 or 9 AP. Now I just get 10 for 3 tasks.
I have no beef with the new mechanics, I only have a beef with the reduced choice. They can have the new mechanics and still give us more choice you know…
I agree with this. However, I feel most people won’t be happy until they get the achievement points for doing nothing and yes, playing how you want exactly perfectly is doing nothing. It’s what you would have done anyway.
I’m not sure what the point is of insulting people. If the point of the Dailies is to make people go out of their way just for the sake of making people go out of their way, that is impossible with the current tech. (Would have to scan your playstyle and give custom Dailies.)
My point is that currently WvWers can get their dailies just by playing. Their dailies don’t say to go to a specific zone and do something because WvW doesn’t have that. Previously, PvE could also accomplish dailies while playing. We still had to be on the correct “continent” (Kryta slayers), but we could at least pick a zone if we wanted to level or do map completion or gathering or whatever. We had a choice.
Gamer personality was a system that went nowhere. Seeing as it went nowhere, they probably shelved it.
Not telling us about shelving it though is a bad oversight.
The only impact it had originally was in providing dialogue choices. It is quite possible they did drop it since apparently providing more than two options in most of the living story dialogues was too much work. Not telling us about dropping it would be pretty typical of ANet these days.
I think, but I’m not 100% certain, that you still get the dialogue choices. You just can’t see why.
I still have received dialogue choices with the symbols recently. The problem is I don’t know why I should pick one choice over another anymore. Is my character still increasing one “personality” by picking a choice? Am I more likely to get a negative result if I pick one of the choices? Its very annoying.
You never got a negative result, ever. That wasn’t the point of it. Nor is the point of it trying to get your guy to be a certain way intentionally since it gives you no benefit.
The whole idea of it was supposed to allow your character options that build over time. So if you naturally display agressive choices leveling, you’ll get an aggressive option at the end of the game in how you communicate and what you say.
A person who was charming would get a different dialogue option but they would absolutely lead to the same result.
As an example, if you were charming you could ask someone nicely for information. If you were aggressive you would threaten them to get the information. Either way, you’d get the exact same information.
It was all about flavor. You can’t choose the wrong thing. Just say the closest thing to what you think your character would say.
Yes, that’s what I meant by “increasing personality”. But the point is if they removed the “personality” part of my character does this really matter anymore?
Another question! The starting item I began with “Multi-tool backpack”, should I be holding onto that, or sell it or…?
You can’t sell this item. It has only cosmetic purpose. It unlocks unique skin in your wardrobe that you can use any time after, but it’s soulbound so you will most likely destroy it when you will get a better back item in the future.
As dirty says, the skin is unlocked in your wardrobe. If you destroy the item the skin will still be in your wardrobe for future use.
To use skins you need Transmutation charges which you can get as a reward from completely exploring a “home” city like Rata Sum (home city = a racial city) or Lions Arch. Other ways to get charges are:
-Map completing any zone (50% chance)
-Daily Achievements (~5% chance)
-PvP Rank Up chests (100% chance)
-PvP Reward Tracks (1 per tier)
-Black Lion Chests (Low chance)
Or you can purchase them from the game store.
Changing the color of your armor (Dye) is free – from a tab in your Hero panel like the Wardrobe. It pops up the Transmutation window but it says zero. You start with a small number of colors but you can get additional dies from the Auction House (called Trading Post / TP) which is near the bank. Or sometimes you’ll get an “Unidentified Dye” as a reward or drop.
You can access the Trading Post anywhere in the world to sell items from your inventory (very nice instead of having to delete things like in other games). Just right-click on the item and pick Sell at Trading Post. You can also browse the TP and buy items (there is a TP icon in the upper left of your screen) but you can’t get the item without visiting a TP. Besides the major cities there are sometimes TP in other locations.
Ahh….Well dang, I messed up how to properly reskin something…Welp looks like im using this set till something else catches my eye.
I’m level 19…let me also say im bad at Finding Waldo…
Wiki while in-game? That’s awesome!
There like a, armor sets I should be on the look out for leveling up wise? Like in another game there were 3 sets of armor in the starting towns. Basically those 3 armor sets were from 1-10,10-20, and 20-30 or something along those lines, then go into higher towns for better sets, but then there are chances better pieces of those sets drop from enemies where the town is at. So, this game have something like that?
@Inculpatus cedo
Thanks =D
No, there are no special starting armor sets to look for. As you level you will get armor automatically through the leveling icon that appears on your screen. (I’m assuming you’ve been seeing and clicking it for the rewards or info.)
I won’t be able to complete the adept toymaker achievement this year because i cannot do the bell choir. i am not musically inclined and try as i might, i cannot even do the very first song. It is frustrating not to have an alternative.
Is there something that can be done? perhaps you guys could lower the achievement requirement from 11 to 10? or add the Jumping Puzzle or Toypocalypse survivor, etc…
Hey shrikes, I completely agree with you about the Bell Choir. I hate it and I am no good at it. However, since there is still time to finish the Wintersday Meta I thought I’d share some tips that kind people mentioned to help:
First: you don’t need to complete songs for the meta, you need to get 500 notes correct. Yes, that’s a lot and sometimes I don’t get more than 1 or 2 notes in a song. But the rest of these tips really helped me to get a few more notes correct and over many days I eventually got the 500 notes.
-Make sure to point your camera down when you’re in the playing circle so you can accurately see where the note “balls” are.
-Try to choose the Middle Part as it usually has less notes. The Lower Part is second best.
-Turn off your sound. The only thing you need to worry about is where the note balls are.
-For some people who have a bit of lag you can’t wait for the balls to get in the actual Blue Circle as instructed. I tried pressing my buttons when the balls were in the last 20-25% of the “lane” they were coming down and got more correct notes that way.
-If there are a lot of balls coming at you, don’t panic and key-mash trying to get them all (which I sometimes do lol). Just focus on getting some of them so they will count.
Good luck!
The Quandary: So here we are ~9 months since the smoldering ashes of LA have cooled and still the city lies trapped in a single moment in time.
Consideration: There have been workers hammering away at the various bridges throughout the city and still they have been unable to throw some boards over the dangerous holes just waiting to swallow some unsuspecting traveler. At least put up some Caution Tape at the damaged areas.
Questions: Are there some issues with building contract negotiations that are precluding the work start-up? Have not enough Council palms been greased? Where are the good-hearted people collecting donations of cash and materials to contribute to the rebuilding effort? Where are the dedicated engineers and crafters looking to make a name for themselves with statements like “See that bridge over there…I built that”?
I am not saying that the repairs in LA should happen overnight but what I am saying is LA looks to be in the exact same state of disarray as it was 9 months ago.
Come on people, pick up a hammer and some nails and let’s get cracking.
I completely agree. I hate going to LA because of all the disarray. Its too difficult to get around. I mean I understand putting rocks and boards in the paths in WvW because ppl are trying to do things quickly so that’s a strategic obstacle. But in LA all the rubble is just for show – can’t we have rocks, boards, and holes that are only cosmetic so we can just get to the places we’re trying to go? (Now that there are no actual events in LA anymore.)
And yes, all these workers should have accomplished something over all these months. I think it would have been great if the areas with workers had progress over time and eventually were even completed. And some of the workers could have conversations about how they completed them.
As it is, LA is just somewhere to avoid unless you need the MF or WvW gates.
-Costumes reduced from individual pieces to entire outfits.
I suspect town clothes didn’t sell well. Many pieces were promoted to armor skins.
-NPE: low levels are shown less choice of things to do (gathering, Skill points, etc.)
To facilitate new players learning the game, rather than requiring them to plum the wiki for answers.
-Traits
I’ll grant you this but it seems to be an offshoot of removing respec costs/locations. You can now respec your traits for free out of combat. It also adds traits as another reward for completing existing content.
-Dailies: less open PvE choices per day
-Dailies: less choice of where you can go to complete your open PvE Dailies. PvP: less choice of what class you can use to complete certain dailies. Etc.
True, but one of the prime motivations of doing dailies, the laurel, isn’t there anymore. They compensated the reduction of maximum of 12 AP to 10 by tossing in rewards with each daily. Rewards you still get even after you do three and get the 10 AP.
-Dailies: removed choice of using Dailies in Festival Completion
No idea what you are getting at here.
That post was illustrating how choice has been reduced in this game, I don’t agree that they had to reduce choice in order to accomplish anything.
And in regard to Festival Completion: removing the ability to use the Festival Dailies to achieve Festival Completion reduces choice.
Now, you claim that there are actually more choices in the game. Please illustrate.
Another choice removed – I can no longer choose to work for my Laurel or whatever each day. It’s no longer a choice, I just get whatever it is delivered directly to me. Ok, I guess I assumed that since they got rid of the Personality stuff they got rid of the Biography section in Character Creation. I guess I’ll have to just create a bunch of new characters then to fill out those item skins
Thanks for the answers.
Answers in bold. No answer = I don’t know The quickest way to get a lot of answers is in the wiki as you mention in 10.
Hello all! Sorry if this isn’t where I’m suppose to post it or if these questions have been asked before.
1.) Can you change the voice of your character?
I don’t think so
2.) How do you get rid of a bag? I’m trying to drop leather bags for purple (atm).
The bags you originally get have to be destroyed (right-click, destroy). Any item with no sell cost at the bottom of the tooltip must be destroyed to get rid of it.
3.) Is “evading” the only way to dodge attacks?
4.) Are skins only bound to the character you using at the time you use it? Or can it be taken off and used for a different character? All skins you unlock (by equipping or by salvaging) are stored in your Wardrobe. You can see your Wardrobe at the bank: its a tab on the left of the window.
5.) Can you give items to another character on your account?
Not Soulbound items. But other items you can put in the bank which is shared between all your characters.
5.5) Is there a bank or storage place?
Main cities have banks (Divinity’s Reach, Rata Sum, The Grove, The Citadel, Lions Arch). Look for a Bag symbol on your map.
6.) When does an engineer get the ability to place turrets?
7.) Can an engineer summon a Golem?
8.) Does it matter what class I pick when I choose a race? Like If I were to make a Charr Necromancer or an Asura warrior? Not really. There might be some racial abilities that would go well with a Class though.
9.) I bought the the Deluxe edition of this game, what does that mini “pet” Charr that fallows me around do? Looks pretty decked out, but doesn’t attack.
Thats what it does.
Minipets aren’t the same as a Ranger pet which can attack or defend.
10.) (I can probably find the answer to this one on wiki, but I wanted to make it to 10 questions.) What’s the rarity of items in this game? Color or name. Like the skin that came with the Deluxe that I chose says “rare” and the color of the name is Yellow.

have an open character slot and char-gen a new toon of that class then delete and repeat until you have unlocked all the starter hats and shoulder items.
not even kidding.
Hehe that’s what I did. Flame Eye head item for my ascended strength set on my ele ^.^
Nice look. Its too bad that the “eye” and most headband head items don’t really show on my Asura Ele with bangs

So the items are now given randomly upon character creation?
The new daily system alienates new players. I’m trying to introduce my friends to this game, and how the hell are they going to complete events in level 30-45 areas to get the dailies, when they are playing their first character, who’s level 20?
If you want to make newbies quit because they ca’t get anything done, congratulations, they are quitting and I will be going inactive again because no one wants to play with me, thanks a lot arena net.
For the 100th time, on accounts that don’t have high level characters, they get different dailies. This isn’t theory it’s fact. I’ve posted screenshots twice.
On my wife’s new account she doesn’t get dailies until she has a character at a level than can do them. When we got Claw of Jormag, she got Shadow Behemoth.
Well that explains something I’ve been confused about since I have a lower level character and was under the impression that Dailies would be changed if I switched to that character. (Too bad I haven’t seen any tutorial or hints or something.) Yet another way they have reduced choice: force me to play my level 80 to do my dailies instead of the character I want to play.
Also, this system is a terrible idea for people with newer accounts who want to play with someone that has a “level 80” account. Both people can’t do their Dailies at the same time. Not a great way to encourage vets like Havoc to bring in new players.
So, I decided to click the “save for later”/the little arrow when the daily login reward popped up. I did that thinking I could hop on my other character to claim the reward…
So can I somehow claim it after clicking the “save for later”… or do I have to wait till tomorrow’s reset? I couldnt really find a way to that pop-up screen again…
From a user’s stand point I would want the ability to claim my reward today on a character that I want, not necessarily the first one I log in on. And saving for later, meaning I could choose to claim it later when I want to (be it 5 minutes later or 1 hour later).
Anyways I probably didn’t find a way to navigate back to that pop-up.
So yesterday I couldn’t find a way to bring up the pop-up, nor today.
Today, I logged in on my alt thinking that I would get the (equipment) chest from yesterday… So I clicked on the little chest that pop’s up and brings up the menu/calendar … To my surprise I couldn’t get yesterday’s chest that I never received… Instead I was offered todays reward (the bag of coins)… which I would have preferred to have gotten on my main, so instead of clicking on the “save for later”/little arrow – which seems to NOT WORK (or I’m extremely lost on how it works) – I alt+f4, hoping that nothing gets registered (like i didnt choose to “save for later” nor accept it). I log back in on my main, nothing pops up/no chest on the side… I log back on my alt where this all started… again no pop up/no chest on the side either.
So, I believe 2 days worth of rewards have just vanished on me… or there’s some hidden elaborate way to retrieve them or open the calendar/pop-up menu.
Moral of the story:
When you log in… just taking the reward.
(Otherwise who knows what happens to it if you do anything besides accepting it).
Also, what I quoted above was opened in a question thread, hoping for answer… though I received an answer of some sort… I’m not too sure why my thread was merged with this behemoth of a thread, where I really don’t expect any discussion/explanation to what happened to the 2nd part of this tale about login rewards.
O well,
Happy new years folks.
I hope you filed a bug report. It shouldn’t have a “Save for later” button if you can’t get back to it. And when the next login comes you should definitely get it.
Legendary count – 4, both GS included.
5117 hours played since headstart (and don’t know how much on beta).
17k+ AP, full ascended sets, bla-bla.
12 80 characters.
Dungeons/bosses/pvp every day.
Most expensive drop was 89g focus from Shadow Behemoth.
Precursors? What is is precursors?I wonder how many such lucky people are here.
I completely agree. I also have been playing since Beta and have not had anything better than an Exotic drop.
Please post in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/RNG-as-a-concept-Discuss
Back when we chose a biography for our character we chose a hat or other item that we received on character creation. Did Anet ever address this when they changed character creation to no longer include the Biography?
-Why did that item not get recorded in the Wardrobe? (since it was recorded on characters made with that process)
-Is there any other way to get these item skins?
You asserted that the old dailies did not motivate you to play.
The Dailies aren’t what motivates me to play. You keep harping on whether the Dailies are motivating or not. The game motivates me to play. If the entire game is more and more restrictive, THAT is going to de-motivate me.
I think the problem here is different types of people. There are people who really want no constraints at all. There are people who feel more comfortable with some guidelines and there are people who absolutely can’t leave the front door without a complete road map.
As it stands now, the people who crave freedom the most are disenfranchised, because that specific demographic feels hard done by.
The other two groups are probably more okay with the changes.
There are several ways to deal with the situation. One way is to give more options for the dailies, which may or may not circumvent what Anet is trying to do.
Another way is to give people 5 achievement points for logging in and another five if they do three of the dailies. That wouldn’t change my game at all, and might mollify some of those who dislike the change.
The entire point of this thread is to talk about how the game in general is more and more directed with less and less choice. We saw this with the limiting of the costume system. Then we saw this with the NPE. Now we have seen this with the Dailies change, including the removal of choosing Dailies to contribute to Festival completion. The game focus has become narrow and narrower and narrower. There is no question that this has happened.
Some people are trying to argue that these changes either don’t affect them or that they really like them. But what most of these opinions have been talking about is the new mechanics that were introduced, like the login chest, etc. These mechanics have nothing to do with the level of choice which is the topic of this thread.
Speaking strictly of choice, I don’t understand why anyone is arguing against more choice. How does it hurt any player for there to be more choice? No one has suggested getting rid of the new mechanics that people like.
And what is the point of guessing at Anet’s motivation? All we need to do is give them our feedback. They will obviously take their motivations into account when making any decisions.
As opposed to now where you’re pretty much guarenteed to have to go out of your way to get the meta? I’d also like to see your evidence for “50%”.
Yet, your post proves that you do infact acknowledge that before, the dailies were more accessible and gave more choice, even if only “50%” of the time. Funny how that works….
Seriously though, it’s more than just the dailies, as people keep having to repeatedly point out. The overall paradigm shift is towards herding players into specific content for specific tasks in order to gain access to rewards that were previously avaiable to them through playing the content they wanted. It’s a stark contrast to the philosophy the game was built on.
The player is increasingly controlled, choices ever diminished, to the point that it is putting people off playing all together. However much you may try to brush it off or rationalise it, the result is the same; fewer people playing the game. It doesn’t matter whether you perceive that to be relatively few or the majority, the fact is that the philosophy shift is alienating players. That can never be a good thing. The appearance of choice is diminished. You’re talking about very narrow specific choices, not over all choices.
You can easily choose to ignore those 10 achievement points, and just do what you want anyway. The game gives you complete freedom to do that. You don’t need those points. If you want that reward, as with any reward, you will do what you need to do to get it.
And for people who got 10 points before, or even eight or nine it’s more freedom. It’s only not freedom if you feel you must have the daily done…and since most of the daily rewards come from logging in, that’s more freedom for some people too.
Yes, you have complete freedom to not choose to play the game at all either. Choosing not to play any part of the game is not “complete freedom” within the game. We are talking about having choice within the Dailies.
And the same goes for the rest of the game.
I am speaking about playing all the time. And frankly these changes to Dailies have not motivated me to login more often. I used to accomplish my Dailies while I played. Now that I can’t, I sometimes don’t bother logging in when I normally would. I don’t feel like running around doing things I don’t want to do. And if I’m not going to do the Dailies anyway, why bother at all?
Thanks. That was my point. If the change to the dailies means you don’t log in as much, that would mean that the old dailies provided more motivation.
No, that is not true. The old Dailies fit in with what I was doing anyway – they didn’t motivate me to play. The new forced choices are DEmotivating me.
Have it your way. You’re wired differently than other people. You can get angry enough over something changing that you’ll stop playing a game you (presumably) enjoyed, even though the aspect that changed did not matter to you.
I don’t know why you are saying that I’m wired differently. I’ve seen people agree with me in these threads. And I never said I am angry about these changes. I am perfectly calm about them. I simply don’t feel like playing sometimes because in order to do the dailies I will have to jump around and switch characters if I need this map on one and a different map or resources on another. Sometimes its just too much of a bother.
Its like if you had a take-out place where you could get all the different food you wanted in one place but they stopped offering a couple of items. Now if you want the same stuff you will need to go to different places to get it. But sometimes you don’t feel like driving around, so you just order a pizza.
I like the idea of being able to dye weapons.
Ultimately the new daily system, and complaints regarding it, are not so much, at their core, about choices or freedom but rather about rate of reward acquisition.

I’d like to see them stop adding wxp vials to the wvw chests, as many people have already hit the rank ability cap and don’t need all of these extra ranks. I have over 600 spare ranks and would rather get a rare or something since wvw loot is quite abysmal :c
I crafted one exotic luck and got 3 ectos, I mean how is that balanced compared to the WvW ones >.<
While I appreciate your concern, one of the stated reasons for the new dailies was to entice people to try game modes they had previously avoided. For newcomers to WvW, those points do make a difference. They certainly matter to me.
Perhaps a better solution would be to expand ways that ranks reward players who’ve maxed their abilities. And, no, I’m not sure that the rewards are balanced across all tasks.
Or maybe a turn-in for those vials? I’m not going to speculate what one might turn them in for since I don’t really do WvW. But they could probably find something non-gamebreaking.
