One thing I especially don’t understand is why the camera switches to first person when you have your face right up to an object (like wall). In other games the camera moves forward when you have something behind you, but in this game the camera switches to first person when there’s nothing behind you but something in front of you.

Best Jumping Puzzle EVER

Djinn.9245

I’m seeing a disturbing pattern here: “forcing” players to do things that maybe not enough players like. Maybe not enough players like WvW so lets make an entire zone with WvW mechanics. Maybe not enough players like JP so lets make a zone that is one big JP.

I understand that many players do like these mechanics and I have no problem with Anet adding more and more optional WvW (EotM) and JP. But I do have a problem with this game which was supposed to be “play as you like” forcing players to do things they don’t like to do.

Have you thought about it the other way? They’re trying to bring people from WvW into the living story? Or people that like jumping? They’ve been using the same maps/ puzzles since launch… Plus the puzzle isn’t mandatory no matter what any one says.

Shoes come from the defense event, the only benefit to the JP is the tonic and rare items.

The Living Story is also optional. They shouldn’t try to force people to play that either.

Salvage highlighting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

I would like the highlighting more if just the outline of the square glowed. Making the entire square glow makes the icon hard to see. For new items I can sometimes hardly tell what they are. For scavenging I can’t tell the rarity as Daala says.

I really like the new salvage highlighting option, but I can’t distinguish the rarity of the items on the fly. It would be better if when using salvage kit all items lighted up with hue related to their rarity. Also the new items highlight is great but the effect is too strong.

I really like the idea of having the highlight be the same color as the rarity. But I would still prefer the highlight be only the square outline, not filled-in.

Sad. the new area is just one big jumping puzzle. This game really has become just another platform game with better graphics.

Great atmosphere? Lol.

If you want lots of jumping puzzles, go play a jumping game- there are thousands of them already out there.

I was hoping for a continuation of the first part, instead it’s just a wasted space and a JP that will be dead in a few weeks if not less.

The new Living Story area is all jumping puzzle? I really hope you’re wrong. It will mean I won’t see the content

point of luck above 300%?

look to silverwastes ran there with 620% luck:

I only have 193% MF base… costs me about 22k luck for 1 level,
from achievements I have another 10 % and I have a
20% MF infusion on my amulet…
additionall you can run…
100% birthday booster, (or celebration booster)
50% magic find booster,
100% improved magic find booster,
30% laureate magic find booster,
15% heroes banner,
30%halloween food,
30% MF food…
10% guild bonus, and ofcourse
150% silverwastes bonus…
(50% bon-fire?)
better part stacks…

go figure out what magic find you can achieve…

Since Centaur Supplies are yellow, being able to stop auto-targeting yellow “mobs” would also fix that problem.

I like all of your suggestions.

Anet is working on "Stuff"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

I do agree that Anet is not “doing nothing”. I really don’t understand people who claim that Anet is not creating content. New armor and weapon skins, geographic areas, mechanics (like Labyrinth), and especially the Living Storylines are all content and are being added on a regular basis. If people mean that Anet is not adding content they want, they should say that. Its like going to a restaurant and claiming there is no food instead of saying there isn’t anything you want.

However I do agree with those who are concerned with what else Anet is doing. They have some good ideas like the new dye system and wardrobe system. But then they screw it up like making costumes one piece or making some into potions. And the entire NPE was one big question-mark in my opinion. I don’t understand why they took away regular progress and changed it into the stuttering progress we now have. No character power progress for so many levels that you end up weak compared to the mobs at your level is not a smart decision IMO. Changing the hearts in the starter zones to make them simple enough for pre-school children is not a smart decision IMO. etc

[Discussion] Lack of Skimpy Male Armor

I would also like to see female choices that show skin like arms or legs but are not “boob-focused”.

Plenty of those to be honest.

Also please don’t turn this game into TERA. I like that females wear armour that actually protects them. (There are exceptions ofc)

I disagree that there are “plenty” of female armor that shows skin but not boobs. And I am talking about having choices. I completely agree that there should be more female armor that actually protects and have stated so in many other threads. However those who want to wear skimpy armor should also have that choice.

All I’m saying is that the armor choices should be more evenly spread between realistic, sexy, and stuff in-between.

You may disagree all you like. I was stating facts, actually:

<snip pics>

And those are just humans.

An outfit’s “sexiness” (which I do not want) is apparently subjective since I disagree with you for many of your examples. And I’m not sure why you are arguing with me – as I said I would simply like a greater variety in choices. Both full armor and not, sexy and not.

“I would also like to see female choices that show skin like arms or legs but are not “boob-focused”.” is what you said.
I gave you some examples of female armour which exposes both arms and legs. Now, how can you disagree with that, I have no idea.

You forgot “not boob-focused” by which I meant sexualized. As I already stated, several of your pics are in fact sexualized. That is why they don’t count.

What do you think PVP on PVE maps?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The biggest problem with PvP is exactly what we see in the current WvW servers: players want to be on the winning side. So players create characters on the winning side which creates a permanent imbalance in PvP.

But aside from that I vote no to open world PvP and will also leave the game if it is introduced.

Since this game is still going strong (its not so old its in maintenance mode), I would think that any information that something is broken in the game would be given attention. I know I’m “backseat moderating”, but I would note any thread saying that something was wrong and put that mention and a link to the post in a report to QA unless that particular issue has already been addressed. I would also have a “Known Issues” list and a “Addressed Issues” list. Each issue would either be added to the Known Issues list or the thread would be addressed by Anet if there was an answer (like “that is working as intended”) and added to the Addressed Issues list, or the thread could be closed with a “this is already on the Known / Addressed Issues List”.

You might not know this, but a lot of the female armors were designed by a female developer and/or female developers(I honestly can’t remember exactly, but I know it was at least one, and I believe 2 if not 3), so to say it’s a male thing…is completely baseless.

While that may be true (I haven’t read any evidence), it is still true that the artists are given direction by someone else.

You said:

Apologies for the confusion, and if you have been working on the collections, of if you believe you’ve been working on a collection that is, in fact, not yet live, you won’t lose progress when they are rolled out in final form.

I don’t believe that it is true that if we have been working on any of these collections, except maybe the Fractal one, that we “won’t lose progress”. Will wine that we drank already be retro’d? Will Champ bags that we opened already be retro’d? I don’t think there is any current record of these on our character / account.

if we speak about bug
Treasure Hunter -> Royal Signet of Doric infused don’t work.

As mentioned above:

Please report issues and bugs in the game. I cannot tell you how much an in-game report helps us, because that kind of report provides a lot of back-end information that makes it possible to replicate the bug, where posting on a forum does not give the devs the same level of detail.

If you cannot report in the game, please post on the Bugs Forum with as many details as you can provide. If you have done so, thank you. And here’s a tip: It’s best to have separate threads for bugs, and not tag new bug reports on a thread about a different issue. Thanks for understanding.

While I understand and agree with your point, it also helps people who are wondering about why things aren’t working in-game to have all of the issues together so we don’t have to go sifting through a bunch of different threads. Especially since the search feature doesn’t work in these forums.

So bug report AND posting in the forums sounds like the best plan.

Broken Collections

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

After consultation with several team members, here’s a little information about the four collections that forum members asked about:

  • Fine Wining
  • Brewmaster
  • Hero of the People
  • Fractal Weapons

There were issues with each of the collections that prevented their roll-out in September. In short, they were not complete-able at that time. However, due to a bug, some players were able to see the collections as if they were active. It seems that the visibility bug is fixed, and that players would not see the collections now. The important thing to know is that the collections are not currently available on Live but that they are coming! (A couple of them are coming pretty soon, in fact.)

Thank you for the information Gaile. Something for Anet to think about: if something is shown in-game, Anet should be aware of how voraciously players go through content. How many players saw these collections and immediately started to try to fulfill them? For some of them, gold may have been spent and items consumed which are now wasted. In the case of Hero of the People, players have been trying to acquire bags and have been consuming bags that could have been saved. And since some bag names have been changed people are saving bags that won’t count toward the collection when it does go live.

Perhaps Anet thinks that making an announcement about the mistake isn’t a good idea. But is having players frustrated by trying to complete collections that aren’t actually in-game a good idea? And the information ended up being revealed anyway (here) so maybe an announcement at the time that the collections were accidentally revealed (patch notes when they were removed maybe?) would have been a good idea.

What?! I was just about to go to my cook and finish this collection. Why would they block it? It is not listed with Festivals but in the Collection tab. If they are going to have collections that are limited to the time of the Festival, it should be listed with the Festival Achievements, not in the general Collection tabs.

I’m not really sure how people know that the broken collections even exist since they don’t appear on my collections tabs, but I’ve seen screen shots of them. When they were first listed I started saving items for the “broken” collections but I don’t know whether I should be. And if they aren’t going to be released or fixed any time soon I can get rid of some of the items and get them again later.

I have trouble taking this to the team, Djinn, when I don’t have details. “Umm… some collections are broken.” You know they’re going to what to know specifics, and that makes sense. You can’t show me a screenshot from your UI, I understand, because you don’t have the collections that you’ve seen reported as broken. Do you know where I can get at least names or images for these issues?

Update: I see that another player listed “Hero of the People” as a collection that seems to be bugged. (Thanks for pointing that out, AP.) If anyone has other names — the title did say “collections,” plural — please update let me know. Does anyone know if there’s a wiki page? (I will go look but I’m just asking in case you know of such a link.)

I’m sorry, I assumed Anet already knew the details since there have been many threads regarding them.

In the case of Indigo one has to take into consideration the distance between the waypoint and where the person died. As Indigo is the furthest away from the waypoint then one can expect to see more dead bodies. You will see this everywhere you have a major battle, the further away from an uncontested waypoint the more dead bodies you will have.

Possible solution? Have the totally dead auto removed from the battle but instead of placing them at the nearest uncontested waypoint have them dropped in a safe area just out of range of the action and give them a 10-20 seconds summon sickness such as when using a revive orb. That penalty would increase on consecutive deaths. Give people a few seconds to decide to waypoint and run back normally or be placed into the safe area with summon sickness.

Call it a M.A.S.H. if you will. You can have a Doctor in the unit (call him Hawkeye) that for a fee will remove the summon sickness, a nurse that will grant you a temporary speed boost so you can get back to the battle (Hotlips) and even a armor repair station (man that with Klinger, a guy with whiskers in a sexy dress)

:)

This is a good idea. If you go to the next nearest WP, often my loot is gone by the time I get back.

Just a little feedback for ANet and something they might have not considered when designing the Mordrem bosses. At least in the new bossfights, dead people are everywhere. Now I get it, sometimes you have lagg, sometimes you can’t react in time, whatever. But after the 4th or 5th time today of me being the only one alive at amber (out of ~20 people) I’ve had enough! What’s wrong with all those players?
Their useless body is needlessly scaling the boss up, they attract other players who might get tricked into thinking ressing the completely dead is a good idea instead of doing damage/popping bubbles, and let’s be honest, those bossfights are a damage race. They are actively dragging down the whole map by just lying there!

Why not just WP and run again? The rewards are given to everyone who participated, even those outside the area without the downsides of being a burden to everybody else, most of all the guy who has to solo the fricking boss because apparently 20 people can’t be bothered to move outside of the bright orange zone and just die within one or two minutes. By now most players have realized how to make gold/silver vulnerable but 90% of the time I (reluctantly, because of this very reason,)command indigo I see it fail because around three quarters of my little zerglings run straight into their AoE and get killed after around a minute or so. Now that’s fine but why for gods sake are you not WP’ing, thus making the fight harder for everybody else?!

I don’t mind bad players, but as it stands now they are an actual burden not only to myself but the whole map and from what I’ve seen the sole reason 5/5 rarely happens.
So please ANet, for future bossfights please auto-WP dead players to the nearest waypoint, maybe even free of charge. (Pretty please.)

PS: Sorry for making it sound a bit rant-y.

edit: Shamelessly changed topic name to attract more traffic.

This also was a problem during the Queen’s Pavilion event. I agree that something should be done.

What are your "Oh wow!" moments?

As with many people, my first “oh wow” was during beta when I first tried the game. It was beautiful, I loved the mechanics of non-competition and sharing. There were lots of people playing and we had fun exploring the world and completing events – the more the merrier.

I also love Vistas (although not always the jumping to get to them). Another “oh wow” was when I first noted that the vistas weren’t just canned cinematics but a view of the actual landscape – including players running around.

And I really love the new wardrobe and dye system although I wish that costumes were in pieces – then I would buy them.

Time to refocus and clarify GW2's goals?

[Edit: OP changed title from “time for a new manifesto”]

No, hopefully they learned their lesson from the first manifesto. Its too bad that developers can’t stick to their ideals and create the game that they imagined at the start of the process. Clearly those ideals were popular – that’s why many of us were attracted to the game and why so many are now disappointed.

PSA: How Farming Works

But not only is it a shame that this beautiful and creative game has become nothing more than numbers on a graph to a lot of people, it is also a shame that those who actually play the game are not rewarded MORE for doing so than those who treat the game as nothing but a system to be “worked”.

Looking at Notre Dame de Paris and saying it’s cool is easy. Learning art, architecture and math to understand why Notre Dame de Paris is cool is hard. But when you’re done learning art and architecture, you don’t actually lose the ability to see that it’s cool.

That’s actually not a good analogy. Let’s not pretend that all the people who farm the game are scholars lol.

Its more like the city of Paris hosts a one-day event to encourage people to see all of the city. There is no prize for “doing it the fastest” – just a souvenir at each destination on the list. Instead of touring the city and enjoying the sights some people determine the fastest route between all the destinations and race through grabbing souvenirs (1 per visit) so they can get the most souvenirs in that day.

Perhaps Anet doesn’t mind people using the game in this way and maybe they even expect it. But somehow it just doesn’t seem right that people who just play the game don’t get the same kind of rewards as those who DON’T play the game but instead work the system.

Choppers, subs, ray beams, portals, but no...

…radios? Or any other perhaps more fantastical communications device(s) we could use when we need to signal the crew of one of the afore-mentioned technologically advanced machines that we’re ready to be picked up and we’d rather not make a big HEY HERE WE ARE scene in the middle of enemy territory?

For that matter, why do we need choppers anyway, or submarines, or even caravans when we have all those wonderful waypoints that preclude even the suggestion of the use of you know whats?

Gosh, when one thinks about it, the only practical use for caravans or any other form of physical transport living or mechanical in our little corner of Tyria would be when there’s a need to construct new waypoints in areas not yet waypointed. Well, beyond traveling short distances, like down to the corner grocery for a sack of beans or whatever.

Is it not so?

Author’s note: this thread was inspired by a thread up in the Echoes of the Past subform, but this is a topic that goes far, far beyond the unwise shooting of a flare while deep within enemy territory.

Since I can send an instantaneous message to any other PC in-game, they should have sent such a mail message instead of shooting a flare. But it has always been painfully obvious that whoever is writing the Living Story has no knowledge whatever of tactics and/or strategy. If I was writing anything about combat I would have some kind of military adviser to run stories past. An ex-military person or something.

In terms of living and personal stories, other PCs don’t really exist.

Its called an analogy. I’m comparing what I can do with some characters and stating that these other characters could have done the same in this imaginary world.

Game Updates: Traits

After filling my 5 character slots I was planning on purchasing more. With this trait system I’m not going to bother.

And I agree with those who say that this new trait system is very anti-new-player. I don’t understand how Anet can state that they were so concerned for new players that they completely revamped the leveling process yet they added this trait system that completely hoses new players.

As I said before, if a player goes around the map doing dynamic events and killing random moas, then the best he deserves really is Orr karma gear and some poultry meat. You can cry “farmers! farmers!” as much as you like, but unless you’re working really hard to earn money (harder than others), you won’t get anything – that’s basic economics and common sense.

But wasn’t the original vision of the game to travel this huge dynamic world, happen by incredible dynamic events, partake in them and marvel at the wonder while building your legend? What you mock and dismiss was actually part of the beauty of the game.

This is a long-term goal and a race against other players, just like any other expensive item in an active MMO. You don’t want to race – you have to wait for the item to drop for you. But once you got your precursor, take a look at T6 mats and think about how many of those you can get in comparison to the fixed reward from a single dungeon run, and how the current “farm of the month” affected it.

If it’s a race, I’d prefer it be one where those playing the story for the stories sake were actually contenders in the race as well. I didn’t buy this game to try to figure out the latest exploit in making money until it gets patched. I have stocks in real life, this was sold to me as a cooperative game with my fellow players. A little world vs world thrown in for fun if that interested you. Not figure out where the developer oversight was and try to repeat the same tired cycle of actions over and over until you out-bore the other players – the race.

This entire post was awesome but I wanted to especially focus on these bits. I don’t like grinding. As shion says it is too much like RL. I play a game to get away from RL. But not only is it a shame that this beautiful and creative game has become nothing more than numbers on a graph to a lot of people, it is also a shame that those who actually play the game are not rewarded MORE for doing so than those who treat the game as nothing but a system to be “worked”.

The OP is a really nice dissertation of farming. It is very logical and provides a lot of food for thought.

In my opinion most people dislike farmers because farmers are able to get things that the people who dislike them aren’t getting because they don’t want to farm. Does this make the people who don’t want to farm wrong? Is farming really the way the developers want people to play their game?

Halloween Vendor? Suggestion Added

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Djinn.9245

I always figured the NPCs were already staying over a bit, since they don’t depart until November 4th. That’s a +4 to Halloween, giving us a bit of extra time to complete our transactions. As much as I love Halloween, I think part of its appeal is the limited time that the whole event, including the NPC crew, is around.

You think it is somehow a good thing that the vendors disappear? Why? Seriously, what is the advantage for Anet for having the vendors disappear vs all the players who get stuck with Festival items because they couldn’t login before the vendors disappeared?

Stop making skirts

I completely agree: stop with the skirt-over-pants or trenchcoats already! And I’m talking about for women as well as men. I would like all of my characters to be able to have just pants please. There is not one single example of just pants for light armor (not harem pants or tights). And there are only 2 examples of just pants in medium armor.

And I agree about the shoulders also.
