Fear detected!

Annoyance, love. I like playing PvE without being bothered by other people or their requests to duel if it’s optional. Keep PvE and PvP separate, thank you very much.

There’s too many advantages to dueling, that duel requests is a tiny issue in comparison. Besides, Anet can always add a “block all requests” options. ;D It’s more immersive if there’s pvp in pve, as long as it’s not annoying, than a complete, 100% division.

Google “Goldshire” in Warcraft…

This. I have left other games because of annoying people taunting and jumping around me, refusing to leave me alone to play the game. I will do the same if they add open-world PvP to GW2.

Limited-Use Finishers are pointless?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Djinn.9245

Well, obviously. Why would limited finisher be of any use to someone who bought the unlimited?

Since they are “rewards” in the Trick or Treat bags, it would be nice if you could change them for a different reward in some way. Anet should really think of these things when they add items to the game. Just as someone said previously: why purchase a permanent finisher if you have a bunch of the limited ones? Give us something to do with the limited finishers and we will have more incentive to get a permanent one.

Unstackable items

I agree everything should stack unless they have been soulbound or account bound.

Also they should raise the number of items in a stack to something else. 250 is to little. in my mind. I have so many stacks of candy corn taking up space in my bank it’s insane. I can’t sell them on BLTP since it’s been flooded with them selling at 19 copper (or whatever the minimum price is). Give them to the NPC kids so I can in return get more candy corn?!

They should definitely allow for increased stack size in inventory and your regular bank tab like they do in the Material bank tab.

[sugg] dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

As the OP mentioned, there are many players who have already completed all of the hearts in the game – some on multiple characters already. So I’m not sure about adding them to the dailies. Especially since a random selection of hearts would require travelling to different zones. But that said I don’t have any objection to the idea as long as the other options stay in the dailies so I have a good choice.

As for people feeling required to do all the dailies, I’ve never understood those people. This is a game, a game is played to have fun. If your game feels like a job, you are either doing it wrong or (if you feel there is no other way to play the game) you need to choose another game.

I NEVER have done all of the dailies or monthlies and I’m not concerned about it. You can’t “win” an MMO so I don’t see the point in worrying about it.

Have you been in the Labyrinth? Frequently you run into multiple mummies / skeletons that grab or knock back. Condition cleans and Stability usually have cooldowns.

And since the OP was talking about running through, not stopping to fight, it is in fact an issue. I do think it is fine in the Labyrinth to stop people from farming doors more easily. But it would be nice to have a convenience item that allows you to teleport to your party.

In Guild Wars 1 if you have a minion master or spirits in your party when a cutscene triggers, they would start randomly attacking the newly spawned cutscene participant npcs, each other, the player characters, whatever they want…. Wasn’t THAT a problem for woodenpotatoes or the devs or anybody? Jarring, criminal, immersion breaking?

You can check it, it still does that after 9 years. I know it’s a different game, but it’s the same company. I know they don’t want to spend resources on that game anymore, but they didn’t bother before either.

Minions going rampant in a cinematic is fine, stretching is inexcusable.

CDI-Guilds- Raiding

in CDI

Djinn.9245

Expectations for a raid Player
These are some things I would expect of players thinking of entering a raid and an understanding players should have that it is not something you just waltz into for a quick 15 minute farm:
-Experience, a new player probably shouldn’t be able to enter a raid from fresh 80 and my later proposal will outline that.
-Teamwork, a player should be able to work with their party and the other parties , notice the fields ,cover a flagging player, if someone on the team is only looking out for themselves the entire team should wipe.
-Skill, Dodges, positioning, intelligent use of skills, keeping an eye on defiance stacks, memorizing attack rotations, verbal team co-ordination. If you consider yourself average you will fail, if your raid team has weaker members the whole team should fail, there will be no “carried” players.
-Patience, I would expect them to fail and I would expect them to expect to fail.

I can’t watch the videos (not loading in my Chrome browser), but that’s ok. I mainly wanted to comment on your player suggestions. I disagree that every raid should be this difficult. I think there should be certain raids that are a bit on the “easy” side (relatively speaking, not easy like a brand new zero-trait 80 can do it) all the way up to some raids that are practically impossible. How are players going to want to learn to raid if they can only enter a raid and then expect it to fail because they have a “subpar” member? And many guilds won’t want to teach a player new to raids because of the guaranteed failure aspect.

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

in CDI

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

4) Intergrate the guild halls into the world so you can see them in the distance and can walk up to a portal to enter your one; have guards or something block you from the others unless you are a guild leader shopping for a new hall.

Blocking people from seeing it would not integrate, it would segregate. Individual guilds should have permission control over who comes to give them a look-see but the game itself should not. Nor should only guild leaders have access to seeing all the choices, though via permission control they might set it up so only they can actually implement a choice for the guild.

I believe the general thrust of CDI commentary has been to find ways to make the guild hall system inclusive, an enhancement to game play, and broadly accessible.

I think you misunderstood me a little bit. The guild halls that I was thinking about are set halls that don’t change in looks, and many guilds can get the same one. For example a Ascalon themed guild hall that has a physical location in Ascalon with a portal to going into it, and many guilds can have this hall as theirs, but if someone was in a guild that was using lets say a Kryta themed guild hall and they walked into the Ascalon one then they would be entering a empty zone since there is no guild associated to that instance (hence guards to stop people from entering a empty instance with nothing in it).

There are problems with having the GH visible from a public area. What if a bunch of Guilds get halls in one area only to give them up (for whatever reason)? You end up with a bunch of unused space. Or the opposite – what if all the GHs in a specific area are “taken”?

anyone who thinks that just because the majority of people in one thread say something that equals the majority of players in the game is mistaken. It is common knowledge among all MMOs that only a very small percentage of all MMO players participate in the forums.

I said “the majority of the players”. If you inferred it meant the majority of players in the game, and not in the thread, then you are making assumptions.

Another assumption is that the people participating in the forums are not representative of the community as a whole. Sure, we’re a small percentage, but neither you nor I can say whether or not the distribution of opinions here effectively represents the whole of the gaming community. Until they find a way to get every player’s thoughts, then the people who do take time to make their thoughts known are going to be the only resource the Developers have to gauge how the various aspects of their product are received.

The relationship of MMO forums to player base has been studied. And in MMOs like this where your forum login is the same as your game login, metrics can be gathered by the developers regarding the type of players that are posting.

In this case, I find it not outside the realm of possibility that a WoodenPotatoes video may have been at least partly influential in getting these emotes removed since he has a larger, more visible audience than the rest of us. Although I’m sure his intent was not to have them entirely removed from the game either.

Even if I agreed that the emotes were criminally out of place in certain cut scenes, why did they have to be completely removed from all aspects of the game until a fix could be made? What about the other various races “bored/killing time” animations? What if an Asura cracks his knuckles during a beloved character’s death scene? Or a Norn smashes his fist into his palm as if itching for a fight? Why weren’t those removed as well?

You make a good point regarding other races’ idle animations.

Complete removal in the first place was a ridiculous response. Given that it will supposedly take awhile for a fix to be implemented, I am asking that they turn the emotes back ON while we wait. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable request.

In my opinion it was not a “ridiculous” response. I believe it was a response by people who have tried to create meaningful stories and would like them to be presented in a certain way. Many of us have seen these stories many times and so we don’t think about the impact that they can have on a first time viewer.

I frankly don’t understand why people are so excited about idle animations. When my characters are idle, its usually because I’m doing something besides actually playing the character. Like looking at a UI window or away from my computer.

Are you implying the developers are giving us false information? Because Gaile just stated that this all happened because of a bug report/thread that DarkOcean found and not due to developers don’t liking them.

No, I’m saying that the developers made the decision to do it for a reason. They could have just as easily decided to leave it, since it was not actually a “bug”. The developers make these decisions no matter what the players want. Players have been clamoring for things since the game was released and those things have not been addressed no matter how many people requested it or how long it has been requested. Because it is the developers’ decision.

I know exactly what the OP is saying and I feel the same. And everyone saying “just kill the mobs” is missing the point. The OP is trying to meet up with his party. If you stop to kill mobs, even if you do it really fast, you can’t do it as fast as the party. If they are with a zerg, you don’t want to ask them to leave the zerg to help you meet up with everyone faster. So yea, its a pain. But I do think it is WAI in the Labyrinth to stop people from just going door to door.

What would be nice in GW2 is something to teleport a person to his party. They have them in many MMOs. Doesn’t work in dungeons but in the open world.

Now, having said that, why not design a change that includes what everyone wants? If you don’t want your character to behave like that, fine, pick this idle animation and running pack for your character. If you miss the old ones, pick the originally designed running and idle animation pack.

I completely agree that people should have a choice. If there was a choice of animation style, even the developers could choose which style was appropriate for the NPC they are making. If they had the option to toggle between styles, players could also choose what kind of animation they wanted for their character at given times. That would be good for roleplayers too.

  • The mesmer community (i main a mesmer) had a list of 40+ bugs out of which some 20 were actually gamebreaking in the way that skills did not activate, phantasms were “kicking dirt” instead of attacking, etc…. but it has been prioritized as not so important, instead we got some tooltip fixes (still important but more important than skills not working?)
  • Is the “bug” about the character yawning in the background REALLY that bad that it had to be removed?
  • If this has already been prioritized kitten insanely important that it just HAD to be removed so as not to break the cinematics, why does it have to be evaluated again and prioritized again? Isn’t it already established that it’s very important?

I would guess that it is easier to turn off animations than to fix a bug.

I don’t know why but i am still hoping it will be fixed and soon (not Soon™ but actually soon). Until then i have to say, i’m very disappointed with this whole approach, and i guess the adventurers and warriors can be happy about having their “look to the side, repeat, repeat, repeat” not-sexualized, politically correct, teen-approved idling.

So you are upset that Mesmers have so many bugs that aren’t being fixed quickly but you want THIS to be fixed “actually soon”?

My suggestion is to implement a simple check before you consume the recipe:

“You do not have sufficient ranks in <X> to use this recipe! Are you sure you want to learn it on this character? Y/N”

Would be an easy safety net from using it on the wrong character.

That particular wording wouldn’t do it for me since I often use recipes that are way too high level for the character just to get them out of my inventory. I need something that tells me that I’m using a recipe on a character that doesn’t even have that crafting profession.

Sexuality is part of being human, and our human female characters are supposed to be simulated humans. Attempts to de-sexualise them are misogynistic.

What some people seem to be missing is the simple fact that a woman stretching is not a sex act. Its not even suggestive of sex.

“Sexuality” does not mean “behaving in a sexy manner”. Do you think a female police person should be stretching and sticking her boobs out while she’s talking to a perp? That’s the equivalent of what is going on in the game with NPCs and, in my POV, with my adventuring characters. Taking away a sexualized stretch is not misogynistic.

But if people really want those animations back, give me a choice to have non-sexy animations for my warriors and adventurers.

That attitude is misogynistic because you are assuming it is sexualized when it is not. You are obsessing about boobs, so you see it as something that is not there. Taking away a natural gesture dehumanizes the female character. That is as misogynistic as it gets. Women stretch, they have breasts which can’t go away just because they offend people who want to suppress female sexuality. And in regards to your silly straw man, a female cop who is standing around doing nothing should be able to stretch if she feels like it, without fear of punishment.

Stop with the a-priori conclusions that female sexuality is a bad thing or that sex is a bad thing for women. Gender dimorphism is not bad, it is a natural phenomenon. It is the natural state of being, and inescapable. Learn to accept it. Or, rage pointlessly against nature and be angry for the rest of your life.

Lol, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m female and I don’t stretch like that (unless I’m trying to attract a certain kind of attention…). And I didn’t say anything about punishment, or female sexuality being bad – don’t put words in my mouth.

And I don’t know why you are bringing actual sex into this discussion.

The point I’m making is that, as a female, I don’t like my female characters which are adventurers and warriors being portrayed in a sexual manner. I don’t care if other people do want it, that’s fine. I’m speaking for myself and I think I should have a choice.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

I prefer option number 1. In number 2, the lucky people will just get luckier as they will get the items they want AND get tokens as well. Let’s just have a system where more people will get their items a bit more easily.

My concern with #1 is that when the required grind is known, people will not like it.

With pure RNG, people still try things on the off chance of a lucky drop.

This is maintained with #2 and #2.5, but I think people will not try things if the reward is known to be so very far away.

I’m just saying which of the possible answers presented I prefer. I’m not saying the one I prefer is great. Maybe they should just tweak the numbers but not tell us what the numbers actually are.

I am just really against the idea that a person can get the lucky drops AND tokens on top of it. Maybe the tokens should only go to the person who does not get lucky drops if that is going to be a serious concept. So if you open a bag / chest and it doesn’t give a certain quality of item, you get a token.

moments when something fantastic happens.

There is a fundamental problem with this justification for impossibly rare random events. These events actually have to happen, and not for just for a rare few players. Players who spend thousands of hours playing GW2 and have never had anything fantastic happen are the real product of the RNG system. There is also a point, one which I have long passed, where if something fantastic happens, it will not be enough to make up for all the past events. There is no way the unlucky masses will get a fantastic event that will make them as or more fortunate than the few who have already repeatedly found fortune.

This. At some point people who have played for a long time and never gotten a “lucky drop” simply leave the game. I’m not sure why so many MMO developers think this is a good idea.

Back during the Scarlett LS the big hubbub was regarding this stretching animation being done during the scene where Kasmeer was talking to Marjory about her sister being dead. THAT was certainly inappropriate. I also, personally, don’t like ALL of the sexualization of my characters in GW2. My characters are warriors or adventurers and I think its silly for them to perform certain animations.

IMO, they should have 2 different sets of female animations: sexy / girly animations vs more athletic / adventurer animations. And people should be able to toggle the animations they prefer for their characters. To be fair, they could have two for males also

If they did that, the devs could choose the idle animations for their NPCs also. Sexy women in town could have the sexy animations, warrior women and the NPCs we interact with in serious circumstances could have the others.

So adventurers and warriors do not stretch… Also, what’s up with this sexualization thing? If men are displayed as strong, muscular and powerful is that not the same kind of sexualization? Why not have stick figures run around and poke each other with Twilight or Bolt to be 100% politically correct and don’t give teenagers the wrong idea about human beings having sex. Ever. Since that would totally ruin them for life.

I specifically stated this was my opinion for my characters. Some of you want your female characters to stretch while sticking their boobs out, why can’t I ask that my characters NOT behave in this manner?

For almost two years (in about one week’s time) I have adored GW2. I’ve dragged several friends into the game. I’ve tried other games, but I’ve always come back to GW2. By now, I’ve spent more than 10 times what I paid for the game at the gem store.

I understand some people being upset about the new traits system and I think it was better as it originally was, but I could live with it. These latest changes though, have left me seriously frustrated. Why the sudden simplification of heart quests? Some weren’t perfect, sure, but the changes have made things vastly worse. Now, quests that were (at worst) a bit unexciting or time-consuming, are utterly boring. For example, Wayfairer Foothills used to be my favourite starting area, but now it’s far too easy and just plain dull. Instead of multiple choice attacks when transformed into a snow leopard, there’s just one attack to keep pressing like a moron. When did the client base for GW2 change from reasonably intelligent teenagers and adults who want a challenge, to pre-schoolers who just want to hit the same key over and over again? ‘Look Mama! I make kittencat hit big birdy!’.

Fixing things I can understand. Removing tedious things I can understand. Making a boring quest more exciting … I can understand. But turning GW2 into a game for little kids or people with an IQ barely out of single figures, I don’t get at all. GW2 was better than all the other MMOs out there, and one of the things it did better than any other game was that it made the whole concept of quests new, varied and intelligent. Now they’re just a minor variation on the quests in WoW, Aion, Tera, ESO and ArcheAge and quests in those games are BORING!

I’m so very, very disappointed. If this is the best you could come up with for improving the quests, you seriously need to consider changing them back to how they were before, because this is not an improvement and people are going to start calling GW2 the ‘game for simpletons’.

There are 728 heart missions in the entire game right now and you complain about the one where you had to turn into a snow leopard that you are most likely playing level 1-3 to complete? ROFL!

Its called an example O.o

I prefer option number 1. In number 2, the lucky people will just get luckier as they will get the items they want AND get tokens as well. Let’s just have a system where more people will get their items a bit more easily.

I’ll /sign this suggestion. Most games wouldn’t even let you use a recipe on a character that can’t use it.

Want the human female animations back

New Items: Colored Refractors. Thoughts?

I don’t really understand why people are excited since they are exotic and change your dyes to essentially one color. My characters have multiple colors in their look so I can’t imagine going out of my way to make them so monotone.

If many people used these everyone would look like just about everyone else. Instead of very individual looks we’d have a bunch of people plain black, a bunch of people plain orange, a bunch of people plain green. Doesn’t sound good to me.

And…exotic.

Game Updates: Traits

Please Anet, tell us you plan on doing something with this. A simple account unlock for all classes upon doing this once would be good enough for all of us, because then we’d all know we only have to do this ONCE.

Just wanted to repost this quote on PAGE 58. Such a simple solution to this trait mess.

I disagree. I don’t want to be forced to do content or be forced to do it within a certain timeframe in order to be able to trait out my character. That’s a stupid design. Being forced to WvW in order to do map completion is bad enough, this is (# of traits locked behind content) x worse.

But I also can’t believe that Anet hasn’t responded.

Is Tassi a bit.. dumb?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dude, Tassi apparently has a head injury, because I had this exact conversation with her last year, and she reacts to Edrick like, “WUT, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF YOU!” Then again, she seems to live in haunted ruins, so who knows what horrors she’s seen over the last year.

The part that I found the most funny about that instance – both last year and this – is that supposedly the Mad King erased Thorn from history and yet Tassi says something like “what was it that Thorn is sensitive to?” Big continuity break there.

But yea, I don’t understand why the devs have the same exact holiday instance again this year. They were so adamant against the SAB because it doesn’t fit with the LS…
Literally repeating history doesn’t make any more sense.

I agree with most of the OP so I will /sign.

Most of the time people only complain on the forums so its good to also have a positive thread once in a while. Those who don’t want to say Thank You, why don’t you just not /sign instead of trying to bring the thread down? Make or /sign a separate complaint thread.

I agree that its nice to have an increased variety of weapons, but its a bit pricey for something so plain. It could still have an effect such as the glint of sharp metal (not glittery), or maybe a spray of blood when you do a crit, or something like that.

It’s only pricy because it was just discovered.

Once time passes, it’ll be as cheap as the blood it takes to make it.

Maybe cheaper, in all honesty, as supply outweighs demand.

You may think that 100 Powerful Blood is cheap, but I have to disagree.

And it is still plain. Doesn’t matter how much the price comes down.

Mawdrey is an improvement only in that you know that you will EVENTUALLY get your reward (no matter how interminably long it takes). Where the true RNG method means that you might NEVER get your reward no matter how hard you try.

But Mawdrey is still too much work IMO.

Mawdrey cost like 100 gold. So there is some gold grind involved. But I think they also mixed in with some JP and exploration. Which add in some enjoyment.

JP is not enjoyment for me.

Dont want this to become a negative post, so please behave!
Dear Anet we’ve seen that you are capable with the system used to acquire Mawdrey, can we have a bit less lottery, raffle and rng fest and some meaningful content where we work for a goal that is certain?
As a player with over 2k hours and no precursors or any drop worth more than 15g in that time. I much prefer to play content that will reward me at completion.
So please keep it mind for the next content release?!
Thanks

While I agree that Mawdrey is a step in the right direction, the Foxfire cluster drop rate is kittens.
