my thought on the LS season 2:
“that’s a bit…. dissapointing… for that much of a wait”
what are your thoughts?

What exactly are you disappointed about? You do realize that in order to release part of the entire year’s story they had to come up with the entire story idea, right? And they created an entire new region with new recipes and stuff. Seems great to me.

I actually don’t mind the GMPCs so much as some of the dialog and decisions. Like I don’t understand why Taimi is there. Sure I understand she’s cute and provides some comic relief but realistically (for in-game realism) why would a bunch of adults allow a cute, disabled “almost-adult” to go along in such dangerous situations? And why would they allow her to be the one to catalog Scarlett’s stuff? Wouldn’t they contact the head of the Priory, the Pale Tree, and one of the Asura colleges for such an important discovery?

And I disagree with making the PC the “Commander” since the PC can’t actually communicate effectively with the NPCs and can’t actually make any decisions. I would have preferred simply being allowed to be a member of such a prestigious team – then there wouldn’t be any conflict with my being a commander who can’t actually command…

And for a last example, Marjory’s comments when you click on her have got to be edited! She always says something provocative, even though my character is male and she’s “with” Kasmeer. I think one time she even said something like “can’t get enough of me?”!

Decisions like this make the story less plausible and so I am less invested.

As far as I know, the living story part involved very little to none jumping puzzles. It included jumping mechanics, which I managed to go through just fine with a cheap laptop running at 20 fps on the lowest settings.

If you want to complete all of the content, then there are some jumping puzzles but that to me is considered optional because it is not required to experience the entire story.

No one said “jumping puzzles”, we said “jumping”. And just because jumping is easy for you (obviously if you can do it on your machine) doesn’t mean it is easy for everyone else. Just saying its easy doesn’t make it easy anymore than telling someone who is bad at math that its easy.

Some people are just good or bad at things – I’m not sure why people don’t understand that. And no one likes being forced to do things they are bad at. Especially in games which are supposed to be fun.

I found very minimal jumping in the Story part of the release. Especially aspect jumping. Maybe used it 3 times? And the Achievements are optional. So….

Still, there may be less aspect-type jumping in the later maps, as we move farther away from the wreckage. Maybe you can just skip this one, and wait until the next…or the next. =)

Four Winds was an event like Christmas or Halloween. I did skip Four Winds the first time around when falling meant armor repair. As it is I didn’t appreciate having to pay for my many death WP during something that is supposed to be fun.

But Dry Top is part of the Living Story – a main part of the game, not just a holiday event. Yes those of us who dislike jumping could skip it but that’s like skipping a chapter of a book. And I still don’t appreciate that my jumping death WP cost me money when I can’t avoid jumping if I’m going to participate.

People who say that jumping isn’t an issue because its easy obviously have no capacity to see an issue from any POV than their own. It happens to be a fact that certain people find jumping difficult in games. Telling them its easy doesn’t make it easy anymore than telling a person who happens to be bad at math that its easy. And jumping under the pressure of a time limit makes it even more difficult.

The fact is that in the environment jumping is optional. You don’t have to do the JP. You don’t even have to do the more difficult vistas. I have maps that I simply haven’t completed because the vistas were more difficult than I wanted to deal with. I give jumping a shot – I’ll even do it several times if it looks like I might get it. But I’m not going to waste my time failing dozens of times to “practice”. This is a game, I don’t want to work at it like a job.

If Anet is going to continue to make jumping a requirement to play the entire game instead of optional, they will probably lose players.

I agree that the jumping puzzle is difficult, but I didn’t try very long as I think all the JP are difficult and have never completed one without a mesmer portal. Yes I have tried many times on the JP described as really easy.

I’m glad some people find them fun and wouldn’t remove them from the game. But I am sad that they are required for World Completion since that means I will never do it.

Grin. Maybe you, Arenanet, can do a survey. Check yes or no-do you have the coordination of young whippersnapper, hotshot gamer?

Hugs Eledon, you are not alone.
Lisa.

They don’t need to do a survey. If you think about it, how everyone plays is recorded in their databases. They can see how many people do jumping content and how many don’t. From what I have read and hear from other people in-game, a large percentage of players don’t like or can’t do jumping. Yet Anet created both Four Winds Festival and this event with jumping inherent to the event (not a separate JP like other events and maps). So I guess they just don’t care that some people don’t like/can’t jump. It definitely colors my perception of the game.

Not to sound rude or anything, but why are you playing a game that involves jumping, even in some boss fights, when you cant even jump? That’s like someone playing a FPS game with no mouse to aim with. The jumping part in the first part of the new area is hardly even that difficult aside from a few air jumps.

In the rest of the game, and the rest of the events except for the Labyrinthine Cliffs, the jumping is optional. You talk about boss fights like everyone does them. You do realize that there is a large percentage of the game population that doesn’t do dungeons at all, right? Just like there is a large percentage that doesn’t do WvW or PvP, etc.

Eh, I have come to the realization that Anet is fine with “gating” a huge percentage of the game population from some of the content. And since they are the ones who created the content I guess that is their choice. When I see a JP in an event, that automatically = something I know I will not be doing. Its a shame but that’s life.

And I laugh so hard at the “you asked for harder content then you cry when you get it” comments. Did you really go back and note the names of everyone who asked for harder content and ALSO note what kind of harder content they were asking for? I think that the fact that this subject keeps occurring means that it is of concern to people. However, many people in this thread are caught-up in the word “skimpy”.

I think that all of the currently-available armor should stay because I don’t care if some people like to dress their characters in a more “social” rather than “practical” manner.

But just as characters should be able to dress socially, some people would like to dress their characters more practically. There are currently very few armor sets that are something you would actually wear into battle or adventuring. I’m not saying the armor should be dirty or banged-up. You can have chest and leg pieces that are nice-looking but also provide good coverage for adventuring. And don’t have a skirt (which is highly impractical)!

You will have to define what you mean by practical.

i mean light armor really has no part in practicality, they just call it light armor by convention, it is clothes, and is primarily defined by not being armor. I suppose one could say it should be like jeans and a tshirt, but thats only really more practical from a cleaning standpoint, skirts, or jeans, neither will stop a sword or a bullet or fire spell.

First, I said battle or adventuring. When I go hiking I don’t wear thigh-highs and a mini-skirt. I wear long pants and sleeves so I can go through brush without getting scratched-up and ticks. Etc.

Second, cloth “armor” was used in medieval times by the peasantry who could not afford leather or metal (lookup “padded” or “quilted” armor). Of course it wasn’t as protective but it was also more maneuverable. Look at Ninja costumes, etc.

medium armor, is basically “light armor” its clothes that considers some for of defense, but not necessarily uniform i its standard. just putting mettle plates onto clothes in key areas/chosen areas amounts to medium armor. Its main function would be to provide some protection with minimal effect on movement.

but how would you define a practical armor?

No, you think of “leather armor” as being the kind of soft leather that modern leather pants are made out of. In medieval times, leather armor was very hard and much thicker. So medium armor is definitely medium armor. And medium armor can also include a certain amount of metal.

So for “practical” medium and heavy armor, I would like to see armor that looks nice but doesn’t have frills or skirts, etc.

I’m a bit surprised how quickly this thing escalated. People don’t want to organize groups for the blitz anymore

The other day there was a TTS Commander (only 1) in my Pavilion instance who tried to organize several runs from the random people there. She even gave out a TTS Teamspeak channel – only 3 people joined her on TS and hardly anyone listened to her directions (typed out) during the runs. By the third run and everyone killing the bosses willy-nilly and then running to Boom Boom, she gave up and I don’t blame her. She’ll probably never try that again.

If Anet is going to have this kind of event that requires organization, they should give a special achievement or title to people willing to organize people who are not in their guild (Herder of Cats?). Of course it would be very difficult to tell who is actually trying to organize so I don’t know how that would work. But there needs to be some kind of incentive.

"Too many here: GTFO" = bad design

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

The main feature of the Boss Blitz is that you have to burn them down more or less simultaneously. Which means you can’t have one zerg going boss to boss — you must split up with a certain minimum number of people at each boss. That’s fine. No problem with that.

The problem is Boss upscaling means there’s a threshold where you can have too many people at a boss (the number I usually see is 15) and the boss becomes much stronger/tougher. If you pass that number, you’re likely hurting the team rather than helping. This leads to map chat GTFO wars.

Ideally, scaling should be done so that if a player has the same skill level as the average skill of the group, then the boss is killed in the same amount of time with or without that player. What we have now is way too far from the ideal, IMO.

I completely agree. I have nothing against strategy but I do not like this system for these reasons. I hope that they change it if they have the Pavilion next year and I hope they never use it again.

Maybe it is due to english is my 2nd language. I have issue understand the “skirt” many posters refer to.

Although many light armor legging is surrounded by a robe (or skirt as many poster said), all i see is pant inside the skirt. That’s not what i will actually call a skirt. To me a skirt is actually should show skin inside the skirt no matter it is a long skirt or a short skirt or high cut…. etc

I consider those “skirt” is actually a robe to me. Therefore i see most of the light armor legging are pants with robe…

I do however want to see more real skirt option, like the phoenix legging, magician legging, kama exotic legging, those are real skirt.

Yes, it is a language conflict: any cloth that hangs from the waist = a skirt no matter what is under it

polls dont really matter in this case, they have a really strong poll already, they can see which gear sells better.

People need to face facts, fashion isnt about morals, or functionality, or immersion. Fashion is about what people want to wear.

They main problem is the Art team has a finite amount of ability to provide different fashions, so they have to appeal to what sells best. Seeing how dress up is so big in these games, one would think some developers would come up with an engine/system designed to shorten the turn around on designs>output

I agree, I just wish there were at least a few representations of light armor that looks like you would actually go adventuring in it. Medium also has hardly any (I wouldn’t go adventuring with a long skirt over my pants).

I like skimpy but I think we should have more non-skimpy now. We got enough of one, let’s bring the other up to par.

We have 15 Skimpy vs 27 Non-skimpy female light armors. We have ~5 skimpy vs 37 Non-skimpy female Medium armors(But a lot more low-cut tops). We have 9 skimpy vs 33 non-skimpy female heavy armors (Unfortunately, all faction armors are skimpy).

We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male light armors. We have 0(!) skimpy vs 42 non-skimpy male medium armors. We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male heavy armors.

I considered any armor that exposes any part of the torso (Other than neckline) or legs to be ‘skimpy’ for the purpose of this examination, which means a lot of armors that are ‘skimpy’ still cover a significant amount of the body.

Yes, there’s an imbalance and one side needs to be brought up to par with the other. It’s not the non-skimpy side, though.

This is a very good post regarding skimpy vs. non-skimpy and it made me realize that it isn’t necessarily the amount of skin shown or not but the utility of the “armor”. You are entirely correct that most female armor covers a fair amount of skin. But most female armor also (IMO) looks completely ridiculous for a person who is going to be running around killing enemies in the wilderness or underground. Ribbons/frills, thigh-highs or tights, miniskirts or thigh-high slits are just as unreasonable for adventuring as bikinis/slave outfits. This is only my opinion and what I want for my character – other people should be able to dress their character as they prefer.

So I agree that “skimpy” isn’t really the issue. And I’m not advocating the removal of existing armor – to each his own. What I would like is more female armor that looks like you would actually go adventuring in it.

Most of the Light armor that has pants also has a skirt which I guess is OK for casters but I wish there were at least a few with just pants (not tights). Medium armor should definitely be mostly pants. I’m sure the guys would also appreciate a lot less skirts with their pants And Heavy armor should almost never have a skirt. That would really be only for ceremonies.

This is part of my whole point: a Festival should be fun, not stressful. I shouldn’t have to choose not to participate in a Festival because it is not fun. IMO that = fail on the developers’ part. I’m glad that lots of people ARE having fun and I’m not saying to nerf anything. Anet is working against the normal behavior of humans. In general humans are “herd” animals – they want to go where the most other humans are because that is the safest. In games if there are large numbers that means killing mobs easier/faster. Therefore zerg.

Recently Anet has introduced a counter-intuitive mechanic: more people does not = easier/faster killing. Sure, very experienced players will pick up on this quickly and easily. But in this case most players are at the FESTIVAL to have quick and easy fun, not to work hard like they are doing a dungeon or fractal. I go to the neighborhood street festival to have lighthearted fun. I can’t think of a single type of festival in the world where people have to do a lot of planning/strategy.

Leave the heavy strategy for the Living World, not for Festivals.

I have no problem playing “the game”. I have 5 characters of different types which I enjoy playing. My complaint is that a Festival should be something that everyone can participate and get credit for. I am not asking them to remove difficulty – I definitely think that every game should have things that are more difficult for the people who like that sort of thing. I’m saying that in the past I could do daily achievements to make up for the festival events that I couldn’t complete and I would still get the achievement credit for the event. That, to me, is how a festival should be. Leave the gating to regular content.

I’m a casual player and this event is very frustrating for me. Yes it was fun for a while to run around as a dolyak or jump around looking for crystals. But I quickly realized that I will never receive credit for completing the event so I’m giving up on it. I will never get 14 achievement points for this event because some of the achievements just aren’t possible for me. I am terrible at PvP so the arena I step in and get killed. I can’t even “finish” the Sanctum Sprint because you are only allowed so much time after the first person finishes and I am not quick. Etc.

This didn’t bother me in the past because they put some event achievements into Dailies so I could still eventually do it. Not anymore.

For those rude people who are going to respond “l2p”, I am playing this game for fun not to be another job. I don’t want to “work” at any MMO I play. I realize that some people do and that’s great for them and they should get lots of leet loot for doing so. I don’t care if I don’t get cool backpieces or whatever because they require lots of work. But if Festivals (which are supposed to be light-hearted fun IMO) are going to be so difficult that I can’t get credit for them I might as well go play a different MMO.

I don’t understand why they take away the vendor instantly. What if a person had a RL issue come up unexpectedly? I don’t know what the harm is in leaving the vendors up for a while.

Yea, I understand that good story = conflict and conflict is messy but I agree that too much of the landscape is filled with ugliness.

If everyone knew they would offer LS items in the gem store, there wouldn’t be as much urgency to participate in the LS.

Instead of me playing every day, I’ll be going back to what I did before they increased the number of Dailies: login and see if there are Dailies I want to do. If not, log out unless there is some Living World stuff I want to do.

I used to use the regular transmutations on my lower-level characters just for fun. Now I will stop using transmutations until my characters are level 80.

It makes perfect sense that people would dress differently when not adventuring… they dress in clothing, not armor!
<snip>
Now we’re being told that, despite how illogical it is, we’ll be able to wear clothing into combat.

Just to clarify: this game never made sense in the first place. Bows that shoot rainbow unicorns? Adventurers wearing stuffed animals on their backs into combat? Wearing clothing into combat is far better than stuffed animals. O.o

Look at gem prices. look at tp prices, there was a BIG jump once trains were introduced. Before trains people needed some minimum of intelligence and cleverness to make lots of gold. With trains every braindead kitten can generate loads of gold. The more gold there is the less it is worth. So even if i earn gold without trains its worth less due to trains. Therefore trains do indeed “cost” me and every player in game.

If people are getting more of something by farming champs, those items will flood the market and therefore the price will drop.

As others have mentioned, they shouldn’t have named them “Legendary” weapons. If these weapons are something that simply take a lot of work to get, they shouldn’t be purchasable and there should be a finite amount of work that everyone can do to get one. As they are, “Legendaries” aren’t really special. Its like being able to purchase Excalibur.

You guys didn’t read the info on Town Clothes did you? Some of them are turning into regular armor skins. gg.

Some. Only some. Lots of individual pieces are being lost as they’re being turned into one-piece “outfits”. It’s impacting a lot of people as you can tell since we’re averaging 6 pages of outrage each day so far over the last 4 days.

The point of that quote being, I believe, that some items that are now Town Clothes (a “surprising number,” according to The Voice of ANet Speaking Through Curtis) will start costing us money in the form of transmutation charges, because armor will cost charges to transmute— and since Town Clothes have no stats, we’ll probably have to transmute the skins onto existing armor, using charges which cost money, unless they have the brains to do something with them like the Traveler’s armor where you could select the armor’s new stats. (Given the current state of affairs, ANet being either incompetent or malicious— I’d like to assume the former, I fear I might believe the latter— I doubt they’d do something so helpful and so unprofitable.)

In other words, it’s yet another reason to be outraged: having to pay AGAIN to apply these skins we already paid for to armor if we want to use them at all.

To be fair, at least the 1-79 transmutation stones will be converted over, too, but I imagine there will be those who have used up their stones and will have to pay.

Only crystals will be converted 1:1. Transmutation Stones will be converted 3:1. So we’ll only have 1/3 of the charges we currently have plus whatever crystals people might have.

If it is one major thing I dislike about GW2 it is all the “heroic” female PCs running around looking like they just fell off a pole. I guess its an asian game thing. If any of the players of these characters are actually female I wonder why they want their “heroic” character to look like she’s ready for bed.

I think that there’s nothing wrong with this type of outfit in general. But the only place I’d want a character to wear it is a Playboy style “pajama party” or in a very private situation lol. Both of which are more suited to Second Life than an Adventure MMO.

You have a choice and isn’t that games are all about? I am using the armor skin from HoM for my Mesmer. It certainly is not ‘pole armor’. There is armor out there for every taste. Try light exotic crafted armor then.

This game’s female armor is better than most. Complaining about ‘pole dancing’ armor is pretty funny – try TERA, RIFT, etc if you really want to see that.

Nice outfit – love the color combo.

I’m just expressing my opinion. Its true that your armor doesn’t look like it belongs on a pole dancer, but it is still thigh-high boots, no pants and a miniskirt. I don’t have (and won’t make) a human female light armor wearer because there is no light armor that looks like anything I would actually go adventuring in. Maybe with the new wardrobe system there will be outfits I can find that look reasonable: pants, jacket, etc. Thank goodness I can make a female Asura to look like a serious adventurer instead of a girl in a schoolyard or a club scene

I agree that there are other games that are worse but I play Rift also and I don’t think its worse than this game.
