Price rise may be a side effect of the end of AB multiloot. Some squads would stay together after the ML and hop maps to harvest the two nodes next to the vendor.

You could typically harvest 16-20 nodes in a few minutes.

The game will be around for a long time so I suspect that eventually mounts will happen in some form or other. Taimi rides in a golem, we’ve already seen mounted mobs and, as mentioned above, we already have travel toys like the carpet and broomstick. Mounts don’t have to be animals…

I’m afraid I’m also not big on story. I’m half-interested and I do watch the cut scenes the first time through but I think I’m a bit long in the tooth to get too involved in yet another fantasy storyline.

In a game were surviving depends mostly upon dodging, giving us a tiny room full of undodgeable AOE seems a bad design decision. And, when you’ve died a hundred times and have no armour left, making us play through the whole preamble stuff again just to get to that last fight is harsh. I’ve spent too long on it already. I’ll wait for the nerf. Not impressed.

It got nerfed last night

That’s what the patch notes said but today I tried again and the Jade Armor is still in the last fight and the boss hits with the special attack without the tells showing and with only a fraction of a second to hit the ‘-’. key. It took me two hours, several repair canisters and about a million deaths to finally beat him. I spent 5 minutes just lying dead whilst the NPCs oh so S-L-O-W-L-Y killed the Jade. It’s a story instance for kitten’s sake.

Anet closure of HoT maps - problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

People use lfg or just hop in and out a few times to find a better map normally that isn’t closing because the map it switches you to is almost always dead and sometimes 5 minutes later will tell you to switch again.

Yes, previously I have experienced about 4 map changes in a hour on the same HoT map – it was VB from memory and none of the maps were particularly advanced on the preparation events.

That happens precisely because of the stuff the OP is describing. If you keep swapping players who are doing the meta to a map that has not started the meta then those players are most likely to zone back out again, either to a different part of the world or to another instance of the same map via the LFG tool. So the map that the megaserver is trying to fill just becomes a bus stop. The LFG tool works against the megaserver and players, being human, don’t just accept being shovelled around the place.

The other problem with the megaserver is that it has to cope with the end of world bosses/timed Metas where there might be dozens of full maps that suddenly start emptying at the same time. Its job is to try to combine maps to keep them full but us players are mapping out more quickly then it can bring players in. It’s a difficult problem to solve I think.

I don’t think anyone is entirely sure how it works but I don’t think it takes into account the meta at all. I think it’s purely on the number of people in the map. In general, never accept the kind offer to switch maps!

However you look at it the fact is that many players will buy the expansion expecting “more of the same” and that’s not what they get. Not everyone wants an ever increasing challenge.

And many bought the expansion expecting more challenging content and that’s what they got. I’m not so sure either side has a clear majority.

I agree, and it’s mostly unknowable because most players won’t be using the forums or responding to surveys. However, the solution is kitten obvious. Hard Mode. Not just for the new stuff but for all the existing stuff too. Players can find their own challenge and the game gets a broader appeal. You can still share the same open world. HM players hit softer and get hit harder.

Mass appeal games have to set at a fairly easy difficulty level otherwise they risk becoming niche.

Leather Farm

The leather farm zerg thing was handy for getting to that POI at the top but the returns from the actual farming were not good enough for me to want to do it again. Even at the current prices it is quicker to farm gold and buy the leather than farm the leather itself. I can’t really see leather farming becoming a big thing unless prices go up. It seems strange to have added that whole area just for leather farming. When I first got there I assumed it would be part of the storyline (sneak/disguise/whatever).

I spent two hours making three attempts and only took 25% of his health. I just ended up dead in my underpants. It’s not a raid. It’s story-ville and it needs to be tuned for normal players.

Agreed, but I fear modern games devs have forgotten those of us who love being able to very S-L-O-W-L-Y accumulate stuff by just playing.

Applies to favour and also to other stuff. Want quick mastery points? Then graft away until you drop. Happy to get 1 MP per month? Then just play.

Dragon Stand main event

It’s simple, just take a week off work and spend every waking moment trying to get into a successful map. Maybe take another week off to make sure. Honestly, it’s almost as if you are not prepared to go that extra mile to play the game…

Except the two people posting just before you didn’t do anything of the sort: they arrived right before the event and things went fine. The only “going out of your way” bit is that we have to use LFG; we are not able to just show up on the map. (That’s true of a number of other umbrella/meta events too, not just DS; it’s just most obvious with DS.)

Well, yes, obviously my tongue was firmly in my cheek for that one but I would observe that if you post any sort of complaint/question/problem/issue on a gaming forum you always get responses from folks keen to tell you how easy it is. Quite often the same folks each time too. JPs – easy . Adventures – easy. Mastery points – easy. Anyboss™ – easy.

The DS question keeps coming up again and again because it’s not easy to many players, even if they know about the timers and LFG. The timers don’t tell you where and when to turn up. They tell you when the event starts which is too late, unless you get really lucky with LFG. It’s a map meta that attracts smugness.

The amount of gold players can earn has increased by a lot over the years. While 10K seemed like a lot when the game released, now it’s not so much for those that have been profitable/fortuitous. Some of the more rarer, and highly demanded items, are slowly creeping up to the existing cap. Eventually those items too could reach the cap and players would then have to wait in the queue to get their hands on those items.

If you believe another thread then Mystic Coins will soon be up at that cap. ;p

On a slightly more serious note, I see no problem with raising the cap.

The basic problem with this entire MC argument is this.
I need MCs more than you do , so you should sell all your hoarded MCs on the TP so that I can get them at a cheaper price.

Or “Boo hoo! Some players have some coins that they are not using but not selling and I want them I want them I want them and I’m going to call them hoarders”

Most people that are active enough to login daily (with the possible exception of alt accounts) will most likely consume at least part of their coins.

I don’t think that is true at all. Many players login every day but have no intention or ambition of crafting a legendary, either because of the cost or the effort (or maybe because of the annoying sound fx!)

Those players just get the daily reward and deposit it just like any other crafting material. MCs will only come to their attention when they overflow their storage, or when they read threads like this.

You have it all wrong. You want to know how events work and when they begin without learning it yourself. For that, you go to outside websites. You always have the alternative option of simply playing the game and figuring it out as you go. Nobody is forcing you to come and ask on the forums or go to outside websites. But if the expectation is that everything should happen when you have a mind to participate and it should all be obvious, I think you need to temper your expectations.

They are unnecessary: you could ask in map chat, and see if anyone else knew where to go, or you could wander around and try and find it, or you could follow the “event” guide tool that is built in to the UI.

This is really, really just “can I have the help given by google and the wiki, but in the form of an in-game NPC”. Would you be happier if the web browser was built in, like it is in The Secret World, so you don’t have to alt-tab for this?

Yup, you are both completely missing my point. I guess no-one is perfect.
