Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards

Of course, they could just remove the lock on the raid mastery altogether. What purpose does it serve?
Not sure we should be using such insulting and politically incorrect phrases such as “Rock Throwers”. Surely we should be calling them “non-indigenous occupants”, or perhaps “travelling invaders who still have basic human, or other species’, rights”.
please be sarcasm. please please please be sarcasm.
I’d prefer to think of it as wit. In fact, I’m surprised you’ve managed to stop laughing enough to type.

Anyhow, yes. +1. Please get rid of the rock throwers, or at least cut off their arms….
I think they realised what many companies have learned about “companion” apps. They cost time and money to develop and maintain and they give little or no return on the investment.
Until last week I was pretty comfortable with not maxing the masteries. I have all that I need to play the game. Then the XP bar change was made. Even though I don’t really need those extra spirit shards I now feel to be wasting XP, even though I was already wasting XP before the change. It’s compounded by those new event rewards that give a whole chunk of XP instantly.
I actually like the mastery system but I dislike mini-games and now I’m feeling pressure to go and do them. So I have not lost anything but it feels like I have!
I’m hoping to receive a Birthday Complaint Booster to use on the forums. For 60 minutes any complaint and/or whine will get taken 20% more seriously by everyone. Note that this item does not stack with any other complaint boosters.
Failing that, some stripy socks in loud colours would do nicely. Thank you.
I’ve studied the varied and sometimes, dare I say, pedantic definitions of “free” in this thread and I’ve come to the conclusion that the best way for me to play this game is for me to spend my gaming time working overtime in my reasonably well-paid job and then pay someone else minimum wage to play on my behalf.
Ooh! Ring Of Fire.
Yes please, yes please and thrice yes please.
It took me a fair bit of time and lots of deaths to figure out the bloodstone thing. I just didn’t get it. I had bumbled my way through the earlier usage of that thing, just mashing the keys and running into the mobs but when I tried the same thing on the Justicar I just kept getting bounced off by the shield. I usually pick up fight mechanics up pretty quickly but that one had me scratching my head.
Once I’d (eventually) sussed it it was relatively easy to take down the shield and start doing damage, although it still felt like a long fight and I died 4 or 5 times.
But then again, I’ve never really liked boss fights in any game! Most of the Legendary bosses in HoT just leave me cold. 10+ minutes battering away at an enormous health pool and usually dying several times is not my idea of fun. I’ve walked away mid-fight from some of the AB bosses.
Yes, thanks for all the replies. Some good info there.
I was really hoping that it would function more like the Home Portal Stone or The Mists where you can portal in, do stuff and then return to wherever you came from. A one way portal does not really give me anything that I can’t achieve with normal waypoints. I guess it would give me “everything” in one place but I never want to do everything in one go so I can find a better use for the 1000 gems.
Of course, my absolute perfect solution would be to have all those vendors and services in my home instance.
I’d be very surprised if the pass returned you to where you were as well.
That would make it a significant improvement over the Royal Terrace and Airship Passes, for the same price.
Which is exactly why I may be interested in buying it ;p
Anyone know if the new Noble’s Folly Pass takes you to an instance that you can return from or does it take you there on a one way trip?
I much prefer the new map to the other HoT maps. It is still vertical in nature but is much easier to get around and there is enough room to avoid most mobs if you choose. A big improvement.

I have to wonder if acquiring 1 Spirit Shard per ~250,000 XP is that game-breaking. It seems we already get something like 20 to 50 per level-up as it is.
Before the change to Spirit Shards, I had maybe 300 Hero Points saved; since then I have acquired thousands of Spirit Shards.
Again, I have to wonder if 1 Spirit Shard is worth the angst. Of course, that’s just me.
I think it’s not so much the value of the reward but more that folks dislike the feeling of all that XP going completely to waste, especially as several of the new events reward a sizeable chunk of “instant XP” that cannot be saved for later, or used on a lower level toon.
Smooth Penguin says he would like all rewards to be nerfed for a while so he can recover his losses from all the ecto he bought recently. Thanks.
See other thread – tee hee.
I wasn’t suggesting blocking all URLs, just the specific one(s) they use.
Make the bad guys work to get past the filter and keep updating the filter to block their latest attempt.
Each time they tweak their “advert” to get past the filter it becomes less readable.
You can never stop it all but you can damage their sales.
At the moment it feels like anet are happy to leave their front door unlocked and their windows wide open.
I don’t understand why anet are not filtering that URL in chat. Sure, the sellers would just find another way to display it but then you block that as well. Eventually the URL becomes relatively difficult to decipher and looks more and more amateurish. That reduce the take up.
I’ve seen it in another game where the spammers had to say stuff like:
\/\/\/\/\/\/ (d ot) etc. to get through the filter. You could still read the URL but you had to put in a bit more effort.
It’s cat and mouse and you never completely eradicate it but at least make the spammers work for their $$$.
I’ve thought the same about home instances too. It’s my “home”, but I can’t park a toon there.

All my HoT masteries, except the raid one, are at the second highest tier with all the XP bars maxed out on the final tiers. So I’m missing an absolute shed-load of mastery points but I have nowhere for surplus XP to go.
I was initially excited when the XP change was announced, then disappointed that it required all masteries to be maxed, then absolutely gobsmacked that they had seen fit to include the raid mastery in this requirement. Many, many players just don’t raid and have no interest in doing so, so those bonus SS’s are forever out of reach.
In Tyria my story is slightly better. I need 4 or 5 more MPs to max the last mastery, Legendary, but I have absolutely no interest in Legendaries so it seems a bit daft that I need to finish that track just to make XP useful again. All the remaining MPs have a very poor reward:effort ratio for me.
So whilst I agree that “discrimination” is too strong a word I do think that the XP change is only going to benefit a minority of players. I wonder what percentage of players have all masteries maxed out, including raids.
I disagree with almost all of the OP. The only point I do agree with is the one about each map having its own currency which is required to buy stuff on that map.
In an ideal world there would be fewer currencies but that is hard to introduce retrospectively. Instead, my suggestion would be to have a currency exchange vendor so you could earn currency on maps you love and then convert it into the currency you need, at a suitably determined exchange rate. New map currencies would only be unlocked at the vendor after you had done some relevant events/story/meta in that map but after that you’d be free to earn rewards doing stuff elsewhere if that is what you enjoy more.
Just give us a repeatable XP “mastery” track for HoT and core that we can select as a destination for our XP, like we select the existing tracks.
Like others, I am not maxed out but have no real need for the remaining ones. I’m never going to craft a legendary weapon so that whole track is no use to me.
It would be an odd decision to salvage everything below exotic with the same salvage tool.
I now have a useless infusion that used to be in my amulet and my amulet needs a new infusion of some sort. The new infusion vendor converter thing is beyond confusing. Not sure why this stuff needed changing tbh.
Yeah, it’s an odd offer given the fact that most of us have an over supply of XP tomes
Mass salvaging: brilliant
Infusion changes: confusing, especially the new vendor
Yup, an excellent change and the options are perfect for me. I always “copper salvage” greens and blues then check the TP price on the yellows and “silver salvage” those ones unless they are especially valuable.
I must confess to being utterly confused about the infusion changes. I’ve had one amulet infusion removed and mailed to me that I don’t know what to do with and I visited the new infusion vendor to be greeted by a bewildering array of tabs, treating all the +X infusions as different currencies. If the objective was to clarify and/or simplify then it’s a fail….
I’ll be turning off map chat in-game for a few days too.
Regardless of what you think about the multiloot thing itself, I have to say that this sort of stuff is one of my favourite aspects of MMORPGs. The collective ingenuity of players to find ways to play and things to do that the devs could never have predicted. It’s like those crazy skill builds in GW1. What? A monk with only 55 hit points? Are you mad???
Multiloot requires a significant degree of cooperation between complete strangers for the benefit of all. It’s remarkable it works at all tbh.
New things.
The unknown.
Scary.
Do you know what the ship is carrying?
I do, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy.
Yes please. Mounts please.
But not sure about the egg thing.
I’d guess the post was about enjoyment, as in a lack thereof,
BINGO! You get it.
What the issue is with Orr gathering though, I’m clueless.
Yeah, it’s a fair critique. I’m actually pretty comfortable in Orr but it’s just one of those places where gathering can take a little longer. So for me it’s a bad day when the best PvE daily is in Orr
I know there are “arranged” PvP daily rooms but I just have no interest in them.
And how come the daily activity counts as PvE???
Southsun Survival: PvP.
Keg Toss: PvP
The crab thing: PvP
Even the footrace one is competing against others.
I don’t play this game to compete with others.
But this is a light-hearted whine. I’ll nab the third daily later with an AB multiloot and tomorrow I’ll hope for a set of tasks more suited to my tastes.
.
You know that the daily PvE events system hates you when it hands you an activity, a HoT adventure, HoT events and Orr gathering all in one go.
;p
The price has been creeping up recently. I sold a few hundred of mine for that reason.
I think I can hear MO sobbing quietly.
Cheer up Mike, some of us appreciate the communications and the progress!
It’s not entitlement at all. I also wondered why there was not a patch. We tend to get one almost every fortnight, some big some small. I hadn’t seen the news article because I “auto” login, and now having read the news article it says nothing about not getting a patch this week, just that there will be a big patch and LS3 on the 26th.
Maybe walk a mile in the other fella’s shoes before jumping to conclusions…
Yeah, strange to not add another 5 but, hey, it’s their game…
I could get excited about some of the elites but as someone with an Ele main I find the elite spec a bit Meh.
Warhorns will never be cool.
It’s a tough contest because all the adventures suck. I guess that’s what happens when you rush to produce bad imitations of other game genres.
#DeathToAllMiniGames
Only the most overzealous of players would declare it an exploit so feel free to dive in and see what all the fuss is about. It’s been going on for weeks/months and no-one is going to ban you.
I’m sure the devs know about it and I’m sure they could take any one of a number of easy measures to stop it if they did not want us doing it.
You’re correct that there has been no official word but maybe they are just happy that people have found a reason to go to the HoT maps! It’s certainly the only reason I go there…
I’ve said this before. It’s PVE. It’s not competitive. There is no winning post. Who gives a stuff what other players get up to? It just doesn’t matter.
I’d actually go one step further and abolish soulbound stuff altogether. Make it all account bound. Soulbound (and the equivalent in other games) is one of those annoyances that doesn’t need to exist.
JPs were never great in this game. Clunky controls and dreadful camera angles.
I only do them when they are on daily and there is a portal. The reward is fine.
Take some screenshots and sent them to customer support with a description of the problem.
Then just move on. The worst thing you can do is react to them, and that includes on the forum. That’s what they want. Set your status to “offline” (on the friends page I think), play your game and ignore them. When you have finished for the day move your avatar to one of the cities and just leave it there and walk away from the PC. If they follow you they will waste their time “abusing” an AFK player.
Fortunately it’s a fairly rare thing in GW1 and GW2.
I think the OP was probably asking a loaded question, as evidenced by their reply further down.
I guess they could do a hard mode personal story without too much effort. The map instances and quests already exist so they could just scale the damage/mobs/healing as appropriate.
No, HoT didn’t ruin GW2, but I don’t really enjoy most of it and I will not rush to buy the next expansion.
