I really think you should not be allowed to edit the title of a thread once it has had a reply. The title of this one has changed at least twice, thus making some of the responses less relevant.
THE POSTMAN CAME TREMBLING!
It was an Asura with its puny short legs. Bloodshed averted.
From rage to drunk and happy in 10 minutes. Nice one!
Yeah, I got mine too. Double check your mail then contact support.
There is the ascender hover thing too. I couldn’t resist something so daft.
Um…. take a look now….
I’ve read the OP’s post and I think I may understand the main cause of the problem.
Compared with GW1, guilds just don’t seem to matter very much in GW2.
I’m sure there are some happy, thriving guilds out there but it does not feel like there is the vibrant diversity of guilds we had in GW1 and they don’t seem to have much of a role. Maybe it’s the gameplay style, maybe gaming habits have changed, maybe it’s something else. /shrugAre you trying to make some vague reference to GvG? Otherwise I don’t see anything in GW1 that required a guild. My guild exists for the same reason in both game, as a chat channel primarily.
No, I did not say guilds were required for GW1, just that they seemed more relevant than in GW2. I think gaming has moved on a little and also that being able to join 5 guilds has somewhat diluted the whole guild thing.

Maybe it’s the gameplay style, maybe gaming habits have changed, maybe it’s something else. /shrugIt might be the influence, or cost, of tools such as LFG. One reason for guilds was to have a pool of people you can call upon to help you out or to do content such as dungeons or achievements. If you can get into a pug group in a few seconds with the LFG then it reduces the role of guildies getting together to do things. If people don’t need their guild they interact with it less and the guilds are less important to the game.
Plus, GW1 was all instanced so the only help you had was the help you took in with you. In open world GW2 there are usually a few random folks around the place so you don’t even need the LFG or groups for most stuff. Even in HoT where you do often need help the chat window normally does the trick.

Wow! Been playing for 9 months and didn’t know you could move like that.
I’ll be using it in future but I agree it should be customisable.
I do need to complain about today’s JP though.
It’s bad enough that I actually have to travel to these things rather than just do them from LA but today I actually had to do a small amount of jumping just to get to the the lazy-kitten portal. Can you believe that????
Anyone who really believes that it ruined the game has probably left…
I don’t think they want to nerf it but if they did then just removing the rigid timetable would do it. All maps are currently synchronised. If it was more like Silverwastes then each map would “end” at different times, depending upon the players, so it would not be possible to hop between them for loot. It might even make the maps more playable.
Yep. Purple breath.
Don’t you find it strange that HoT owners are given harder PVE dailies than non-HoT owners?
I don’t do jumping puzzles. I just don’t like them and I don’t like the clunky controls and bad camera views.
However, I am completely happy to hop into a conveniently placed portal for a quick daily. And that’s my choice, is it not?
I’m also completely happy for the OP to do the puzzle “properly” or any other way for that matter. That’s their choice.
I cannot wait for more expansions if they bring content like HoT’s to us!
I’m pretty sure you won’t be seeing that.
I quite enjoyed the hearts
I’m not convinced the price is going to significantly decrease any time soon.
It’s the AB meta farming that is flooding the game with surplus gold. Inflation.
‘The average age of someone who plays games is 31 years old. In fact, more gamers are over the age of 36 than between the ages of 18 to 35 or under the age of 18. They are also mostly men, but by a slimming margin’
considering computer games have been around from the early 80’s and we havent died yet
And GW probably attract a higher proportion of older gamers than many other games. I suspect it also attract more women than similar titles too.
…and I also understand that most of us are now between 20-30 years old
I have no hard facts, but I suspect your typical age estimate might be at least a decade too low. Gamers are older than you think.
I’ve been claiming to be under 30 for almost 20 years now….
I’m not sure I’ll ever come to terms with looking like a div wearing the headset.
I think it will still be nerfed further down the line
I’m looking forward to LS3 but not particularly for the story. I rarely get involved in the story-lines of these sort of games. I play through them but don’t really pay any attention to the details!
What? You want to buy a tin of striped paint? Are you mad????
Suggest you go down to the tool store and ask them for a Long Wait. ;p
Yeah, as I said it is only a minor inconvenience but I was puzzling over the reason for it. I can transfer account bound stuff but not account bound stuff that will soulbind if it is ever equipped. There is no real difference between those things until they are equipped. And I will probably never equip them. I tend to keep account-bound exotics distributed around my toons to ease the storage and because I can’t quite bring myself to salvage them.
And, yes, I realise that the main use of those slots is not for transferring but I have 6 slots and I do make regular use of 4 of them to transfer stuff between toons. A bank is only ever a waypoint away but the return trip is not so it depends where you park your toons.
It really is not a big deal but it seems like an odd design decision.
Yep, happened to me a while back. Just seems to be a temporary thing. Maybe it’s just to see if we are awake!
hot is a response to the demand for more challenging PVE content. At the time of beta testing, the mobs were easy as Core Tyria, and this resulted in massive complaints from testers who said that the content was boring, then Anet modified the difficulty. Currently I play with more glass cannon class possible: warrior zerker, no defensive traits.
Yep, the problem with beta testing is it tends to mostly attract the more serious players. You’ll iron out lots of bugs but you will not get a balanced opinion.
I was surprised to find that some of the exotic weapons I have cannot be placed in the shared inventory slots. I think it is because the items are “Account bound, Soulbound on use”. I can transfer the item between my toons via the bank but not via the shared slot.
It’s more of a minor inconvenience rather than a major problem but I can’t see any reason for the restriction. Is it just an oversight or is it preventing some nefarious exploit?
I’m not sure the red posts are adding much clarification:
<snip> usage of the auto-cast feature while AFK is fine as long as it is not used to facilitate unattended gameplay.
Surely using auto-cast while AFK is unattended gameplay ????
I think he said it’s so unfair, but I’m not 100% sure.
The clue was in their LFG text. They said they wanted a quick run which usually means they are looking for geared players so they are likely to be the sort of players who will want to see your gear and build. So the 78 will have been like a red rag.
I’m not saying it’s right but that’s how some of those folks are. Insta-judgement, insta-kick.
Maybe start your own party and make the 78 thing clear in the lfg text. You’ll get plenty of players.
From the patch notes:
“The drop rates for Ley Line Sparks, Piles of Auric Dust, and Bottles of Airship Oil from some chests have been adjusted to be more equal between maps.”
I like ’em.
The only improvement I would suggest would be to drop players a hint in the in-game mail because many many players will never read the patch notes. Last night there were constant questions in chat by slightly bewildered players, and more than one passer-by who was puzzled by a large group of players who were just standing around for no apparent reason.
I’m quite impressed that a GM takes the time and trouble to try to contact you in-game. That is not the sign of a company that is wanting to ban innocent players.
I don’t think the daily 2g is enough to be significant but the point about minis is a good one. I tend to think of mini collecting as a minority activity but, yes, there are certainly a lot of minis on the promo page atm.
And if you put on Anet’s shoes for a minute you would probably not be too worried to see a higher exchange rate because that means that folks who put their hand in their pocket and convert $$$ → gems → gold will be getting more gold for their $$$.
But never fear, one day soon I’ll weaken and buy a some gems at the current rate. That is sure to cause the price to suddenly drop, just to annoy me ;p
Elite Specs, Build Diversity, Balance Issues
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Most games of this genre end up with only a few builds and profs that dominate at any particular point in time. Then a balance patch hits and things change, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot, and a new king of the hill emerges. It’s impossible to balance everything because players are so darned ingenious at finding ways to play that no-one could have predicted.
Some of the elite specs probably need toning down a little but that will happen eventually, and the forum will be full of the usual stuff!
But imbalance, and thus balance adjustments, will always be part of the game.
This has come up a few times before.
I’m happy for crafting to be a per-char thing but I would really like bought recipes to be account-wide unlocks. I only learned that they were not account-wide after I bought and consumed an expensive recipe in Dry Top on my non-Jeweller toon so I ended up doing lots more DT events just to get more of the currency I had just wasted.
I’d also like to be able to buy enough extra crafting licences for one toon to have them all available rather than a maximum of 4. Not sure why that limit is there. Lifting the limit would surely be an easy win for the gem shop.
I agree that they should split some of the skills; one set for PvE, the other for WvW and PvP (I don’t think it would be necessary to have a third variant for WvW).
The suggestion that this might confuse players is ridiculous. The game modes are very different and you’d be using different skills and different rotations so you would just adapt. It was never a problem in GW1 and there were way more skills in that game.
So the only real argument against doing this is that it increases the development, test and maintenance effort required.
The OP is correct that the price shot up suddenly and stayed there. I thought it was just a blip, mostly caused by the Chaos Gloves, but it does look to be stubbornly sticking at around the 100g for 400 gems price.
After the Chaos Gloves there were a few other desirable things on promo but for the last week or so I’ve been wondering what the store is offering that is keeping that price high. Maybe it’s nothing in particular. Maybe 100g is the new 75g.
I’m not someone who is ever going to spend RL cash for gems so I consider it a bonus that I can convert gold to gems. As such, I accept that the exchange rate may not be optimum for me. And gold is pretty easy to earn in game.
You were doing well until:
However, it may behoove you people to remember that PvE in GW2 is an endeavor solely in the pursuit of skins.
Then I stopped reading, because you are wrong.
Yeah, I am enjoying the little snippets of content too. One tip. If you are like me in that you want to take a bit of time to investigate stuff then turn off map chat before you head out into the world. Spoilers galore from players who seem determined to blitz through the content as fast as possible then tell everyone about it rather than savour the fun of the chase. Last night someone was continually spamming a certain item and a sentence about what you need to do to get it.
It would also be nice to be able to hide comm and mentor tags on maps, for the same reason ;p
HOT maybe one of those things ahead of it’s time, like some music. When launched, misunderstood, too different. Over time as it normalizes to the masses… then it become appreciated. Maybe not. It may not have that expected first impression we seek, but something more acquired. I’d say just be open to something different, once you find your groove you may find the old maps a bit too basic.
Or it might be like that difficult second album.
Participation timeouts need a little tweaking

Yep, defo extend those times. It’s better to have one or two “tag and run” players gaining unearned rewards than have a legitimate participant go unrewarded. It’s a particular problem with long escort events where folks run ahead and clear the path.
If there is one category of complaint that consistently puzzles me it is the inventory stuff. I just don’t get why so many folks care so passionately about their bag layout. Surely it is a minor irritation at worst. I just have one “fixed” bag with the keys and consumables in and then treat the rest like a big bucket. I salvage, sell and deposit stuff then hit “compact” to make it neat. It just does not seem that important. <scratches head>
For me it’s purely an irritation of where I expect a specific tool to be, like my Salvage-o-Matic, as a result of this I’m now constantly porting to the HoM because it’s portal stone is now where I normally had my salvager.
Surely those two items are in your shared slots and so have not moved? Anyhow, I fully support everyone’s’ right to be upset. I’m just a bit surprised at the intensity of it.
I think I got to about 30/50 and GWAMM then stopped. I’ve never been big on collecting every prestige weapon and armour set. I did enjoy the titles but, yes, some of those took a real effort to get. Sometimes I see people complaining about “grind” in GW2 and think back to some of those GW1 titles…

The OP is going to be really upset when they spend 1000 hours earning HoM points in GW1 then just get given a few skins and titles in GW2…
I’m sorry you don’t like the rewards. In my opinion the Fiery Dragon Sword is one of the top 10 weapon skins in the game. I’ve also enjoyed being able to have free skins while leveling up (so I can avoid spending on transmutation charges).
Did I say that I don’t like them? I even use a couple of them (although I never really liked the fiery sword – too flashy hehe). It’s just that its the OP seems to think that HoM will magically give them loads of goodies, which is only true if they’ve done the right stuff. The rewards are more of a nod to your dedication/obsession with GW1 rather than really useful stuff.
