If you are commanding a squad, and someone not in your squad opens a door before you get to it, don’t automatically assume they are trolling. They might be in a different squad, or just be playing on their own. Your squad does not have exclusive rights to the map.
Yeah, that sounds like a bit of an oversight on the part of the devs but I bet they won’t be rushing to fix it because, as stated above, it acts as a small incentive to buy HoT.
I’ve got a non-HoT account that has some HoT currencies because of harvesting nodes in other folks’ home instances.
Boosters value is 100-150 gems, approximately 30g.
ToT value is currently around 5 and a half silver, or less than 1 gem.
.
Boosters are worth precisely nothing to players who do not use them because they can’t sell them. They just clutter up their bank.
So, to me, a ToT bag is worth more. But it still does not make it worth buying keys…
Gets free key: Woo hoo!
Opens chest: Oh. Kinda the same Meh
But hard to complain at the price.
What you folks don’t realise is that the end date is not set in advance. The date is determined by a never-ending tug of war between the big-endians and the little-endians. Today it turns out that the big-endians were marginally ahead so we got another week. It’s obvious really.
Honestly, you folks make me laugh. Next you’ll be telling me that the game is run by a team of humans in RL. Do you think that’s air you are breathing?
I’ve seen it a few times and I’ve always managed to find a place “in” the chest where I could activate it by shuffling around a bit. I’m only talking about Grand chests. I don’t bother with the others.

I just purchased the HoT and I’m a little upset there isn’t a character slot included.
Yeah, you are very late with the complaint but you are far from alone with this opinion. I think it is utterly crazy to have an expansion that includes a new profession without including a free character slot to go with it. Many of the veterans got a free slot by pre-ordering but everyone else is expected to delete an existing toon or put their hands in their pockets for another slot. It’s doubly crazy now that HoT includes the instant level 80 booster.
Maybe ANet have learnt from the experience and will pitch the next expansion better. Maybe. ;p
Assume it ends today. Maybe there will be another week but don’t count on it if you are chasing anything specific.

Killing the infinite stream of destroyers is much faster than running around to wake up skritts …
Yes, but it’s even faster if you wake the odd Skritt as you are passing…

In my view, it’s not even close to griefing. Players are just doing the heart as efficiently as they can, probably because they just need to trade with the heart NPC. I’ve done it myself, usually en-route to one of the other heart objectives. The task says to wake them and, tbh, I didn’t even know they don’t reset until the grouchy ones are dead.
Maybe a good improvement would be to have the hearts repeatable as they are now but have the vendor as a one-time unlock so you can go back to them without having to do the hearts each day.
It may or may not be deliberate trolling.
It can get quite chaotic in these fights so it’s easy to overdo it and it can be tricky to make sense of chat, especially when the temperature rises. I’ve seen a couple of times where everyone stopped “just in time” and then condi’s killed the vine. I’ve also seen a few people not be aware of which fight they are in so yelling at east to stop may not mean much to them.
Even if it is deliberate, it’s hard to prove it unless it’s the same couple of guys doing it regularly. After all, the whole game is based on spamming your attack skills until the evil red thing is dead.
There are always going to be some trolls but with the Octo I think it may be that many of the experienced regular players are busy with the Halloween event. It’s certainly been harder to get a decent multiloot in recent weeks and I seem to see a lot more dead players in those events currently.
Why does Lege armor have to be tied to Raids?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: DoctorDing.5890
Yes. Many players are “inept.” Amazingly enough the average player is…. average. Which if they were scored on a grade of A, B, C, D, or F, they are a C and after 4 years of playing they are still a C. Below them are the C-, the D and the F ability players. If raids are for the B and A level players then C level is going to struggle and D and F players don’t have a prayer of getting it without being carried. Remember, the C, D, and F players are half of the population. People who do raids are B level at worse.
I consider myself to be ~C+/B- and I know I personally would not be able to do raids (which is fine for me as I have no interest in either raids or the armor. I’m just arguing here that the opinion that everyone can do raids is not an opinion that fits the facts).
What facts here, that you feel half the population is a C player or lower ? That’s not a fact, that’s an arbitrary assignment.
The only fact of this is that, if you want to play the game, and do the mode you can. If you want to improve you can. The sheer fact that you there’s this notion that a vast majority of the player base is somehow inept is absurd.
No. That’s simple math and statistics. The average player is average, which is a C. Half of any population is average or below average, and that includes this population. I suggest you read up on statistics if you believe that the population is above average as that’s logically impossible. Half of any population is average or below average. That’s a mathematical truth and this population is not exempt. If content is deliberately designed by the Devs for the above average part of this population then the average and below average are going to struggle or not be able to do it.
And no, willpower and wanting does not conquer all. I suggest you think about that one too.
Actually, in the wonderful world of averages you can have almost everyone being above average.
Example: 1 million people score 10/10 on a test, 1 person scores 1/10. The average score is a little under 10/10. 99.9999% of people scored above average.
That’s why you should never trust statistics.
This is the thread that just keeps on giving. I didn’t know about the cats either.
http://dulfy.net/2016/08/24/gw2-hungry-cats-feeding-guide/ Shortcut for ya.
Thanks. By the time I read this reply last night I’d already found the Dulfy guide and fed most of the cats. I’m only missing the non-Ele prof specific ones and the Dry Top one that needs the Geode recipe (I’m saving up Geodes for Amber recipes).
I just didn’t know that feeding cats was a thing so I didn’t know to look for more info.
I hope one of those NPCs is going to deal with all the litter trays…

Anything else you folks want to teach me about the game I’ve been playing for the last year or so?
Am I the only person to think that the market is not broken?
6000 candy corn in cost. You get roughly 6 per day. So it’ll pay for itself in 34 months. So.. sometime into the third expansion. XD
Yeah, the numbers are not quite as bad as you say but it’s not really about profits. I just like having loads of nodes in my home instance and it pleases me to harvest seasonal stuff out of season (you should see my stash of Wintersday gifts). It costs 5000 corn and yields between 6 and 12 extra per day compared with the standard node (so between 12 and 24 in total). The numbers make more sense if you pair up with someone to harvest them but it’s still a long payback.
Hey, thanks for this thread. I had not noticed that the node being sold was an upgrade to the one I bought last year so I had ignored it.
Now I have twice as much to harvest each day. It may even pay for itself eventually hehe.
In the original GW game, many popular builds involved mix/match choices to take advantage of such synergies. That made that game, by dev admission, problematic to balance.
And yet, loads more fun for the players.
My main is an ele and, for me, an ele needs to use a staff. I can’t get very excited about an ele with a war horn so I end up with the same ol’, same ol’ skills.
I’d support bulk crafting but in the meantime either craft little and often to stop it all building up (which helps with storage too) or let a huge amount build up then set it going and tab out and read your emails, twitter, forums, whatever.
Also whilst it is crafting you can organise your inventory, trade on the TP, fiddle with your build etc.
You’re allowed moe than one toon
Use the 80 boost on a raiding toon and level a rev from scratch.
I’m somewhat amused that the majority of the lab farming squads I’ve joined in the last couple of days now just skip the Viscount boss. Since the buff they consider him a bad use of time. Perhaps his rewards needs buffing too….
He’s still not hard and what players fail to realize is champ bags give at least 5 HoT bags.
If the door spawn timing was such that there’s always a door available then I can see skipping less efficient doors (like the two three doors that spawn a single vet — very little reward there). Given that there is “down time” where general mob farming is pursued, skipping Viscount doesn’t seem that efficient.
Folks are aware of his reward. I have not made a scientific study of the relative efficiencies – I’m just amused that there is an emerging culture of running past him because he “only gives 5 bags”. I make sure I tag him on the way past, just in case a “rival” farming squad decide to kill him. Maybe there will be a big fat chest waiting for me on the next lap hehe.
Shared inventory slots don’t quite cut it. You cannot place anything in them that will become soulbound on use, even if it is currently not soulbound. It seems a daft restriction to me but it is what it is.

I guess you could try beating up any guys in suits and shades. Alternatively, set your animations to medium and see if that is any better. (They are working on a fix.)
Maybe you should read the posts below!
There is a rumor going around that changing your animation settings from low to medium or higher is a temp fix.. this is false.
Just because it does not work for you does not make it a mere rumour. It worked for me and for others.
Before I was lasting about 30 seconds. After the change I finished the whole multiloot and beyond.
F11, gfx, set animation to medium. Others have same problem.
The animation thing seems to work. F11, click on gfx, set animation to medium
Yep, me too.
……………………..
Yeah, I always do the event daily when it comes up, except when it is DS. I’ve spent too long looking for events on that map.
I’ve heard some interesting abilities attributed to John Smith but time travel is a new one.
The great thing about being a time traveller is that you can keep hopping around removing all the evidence that you are a time traveller. It also helps to have a very generic name so you don’t attract too much attention. Just sayin’….
My two favourite things in GW1:
1. The vast number of skills and dual classing which led to a hugely enjoyable culture of creating, sharing and tweaking skill builds/combos. Of course there were some overpowered ones but there were also some weird and unexpected ones. The whole thing was set-up to encourage switching skills. Loved it.
2. Heroes. Yes, they divided the crowd but for me they extended my enjoyment of the game by a couple of years. I’m a control freak so having a customizable party at my fingertips was top notch. If I could vote for just one addition to GW2 in my lifetime I would choose heroes. And, no, I don’t care that “it can’t be done” or that “it ruins the social aspect of the game”. It would still get my vote.
I put too many thousands of hours into GW1 but it looks and feels a bit dated now. It can never re-capture that initial rush of shiny excitement.

Why does Lege armor have to be tied to Raids?

It’s probably to get more folks raiding to justify the amount of time and effort the devs spent on the minority content called raids.
I’d like storage space for absolutely everything please. Thank you.
I agree with the “it’s made them more tedious” viewpoint.
The zerg batters away at the boss, folks go down, get revived and ultimately the boss dies. It just takes longer to get the same stuff. I’m not sure it’s an improvement. It’s a common theme in HoT too.
When was the last time you saw a total player wipe at a boss?
Ah now, you see, the official vendor has overheads. He has to pay top rent for that prime pitch. The other fella is tucked away in a back alley. Not much passing trade for him.
You should really buy the minis online from the imaginary game ebay clone.
Weirdly, I went to farm platinum in Sparkfly Fen last night and there seemed to be loads of candy nodes. It was a bit annoying hehe.
I have not seen any doors

TBH, I’d be happy if XP wrap-around rewarded anything at all, no matter how paltry. One AP? One point of progress towards a title with a crazy-high target?
One copper? A ticket that says “I earned one million XP and all I got was this lousy ticket”?
Actually, just making the bar flash and go “ping” each time would make me happy. In GW1 you got a skill point each time. After a while you had nothing to spend the points on, but it was still nice to get one.
I always assumed you’d get to choose what the gobbler did. Getting a random transformation or boost seems a bit too, um, random to be useful.
I really wonder if it’s possible to suggest anything on a game forum without people fighting you on it…
No, I’m afraid that’s not possible. I wish it was but it isn’t. Human nature I guess…
I see no problem with your suggestion. It’s not something I’d pay for but if others want to do so then it’s no skin off my nose.
I’ve never made 50g per hour in a multi loot, even if I multiply up the total in the 30 – 40 minutes that it takes.
And that’s the point. You can only run one multi-loot every two hours, and there are times where there are not many maps available. I did one on Sunday where there were only two successful maps across our squad. Still more than one but barely “multi”.
The number of maps available is not very relevant. You could have 8 maps, and loot on 1 character, or 2 maps and loot on 4 characters. Same number of chests. Efficient looting (clear bags, speed boosts, etc) will lead you to the kind of gold the above poster was mentioning.
I’d say it’s very relevant to those folks who only have one toon in HoT
Swapping toons is the exception, not the rule. But this discussion is kinda pointless because the big-endians and the little-endians are never going to agree.
I’m happy…….

@OP If I was a footballer I’d be with the point about adventures at least 200% but as I am an engineer I’m restricted to 100% agreement.
To fight/dodge you way through to an adventure point and then find it not available is frustrating. To play an adventure/mini-game that you don’t enjoy just because because you want/need a mastery point is not entertainment.
I actually like the mastery point system and I’m happy to take my time and to only get those masteries that I will use. Or at least, I was happy until the XP rewards came back. I don’t particularly need the spirit shards but it does irk me that if I want to gain anything from all the XP I keep earning then I will have to complete masteries like raid and legendary weapons, both things I will never use in the game. I find it strange that some of the new story stuff awards big chunks of XP immediately. The devs must know that the majority of players have no use for that reward.
Best parts of HoT: Gliding, gliding and more gliding.
Worst parts of HoT: The difficulty level and the really bad maps.

HA HA HA!
I DID NOT SAY “MAD KING SAYS”!
I think the VIP reward is to wear a t-shirt that says “I paid for VIP and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”. I might be wrong though.
@OP, that sounds a bit like a scam.
Not sure Anet mind. It seems to give lots of players lots of enjoyment. <shrug>
