Games should not be catered to the lowest denominator
I could not disagree more. To remain successful, games like this absolutely MUST cater for the lowest common denominator. Those people are paying customers too. Call it easy mode, story mode, hard mode, expert mode or whatever but the fact is that a “challenging” level of difficulty can turn people off the game. You might be happy to see those people out of the game but every lost player means less money to develop the game.
Despite this being a MMORPG I think there are lots of people who want to play it solo, which makes some of those bosses seriously tedious and not fun. There would be no harm at all in having an easy story mode or whatever. It would not affect anyone else at all.
I’d like a guild shed. Something that can be captured solo but that cannot be upgraded as much as the big halls.
I also support the OP’s complaint. I’ve spent a couple of hours trying to do the escort one with pugs without success. Frustrating, and a crazy design decision.
It’s the mushrooms I hate. An epic hero bested by a short guy in a mushroom suit.
Yeah, I’d have been quite annoyed if I’d paid for it and got those. Not sure why they were account bound as my main account got an unbound mini from the box.
They were free <shrug>
On my second account I got three identical account bound minis! They even stacked.
One of the big mistakes they made with HoT was listening to the beta players complaining about how easy the mobs were and thus buffing them all for the release. Beta players are a minority and tend to be from the harder-core end of the player spectrum. Open-world needs to cater mostly for average players: no elite spec, probably a mix of exotic and ascended armour, less than optimum build etc.
I’ve bought plenty from cdkeys.com and it has all been fine, including the GW2 keys.
It was a significant change
Bingo.
I’m ok if it is more of the same it weeds out the same folks and I am ok without that kind of crowd.
Are you OK if the game population drops so low that the game is no longer financially viable? Games have to cater to all levels of ability. In that respect, HoT failed horribly.
Hot vs PoF. The fight no-one wants to see.
Add your login details to the GW2 shortcut and you’ll never need to see the login screen again.

(Don’t do this if other folks use your PC)
Gaile, please can you move this to the bug section. Ta.
I’ve just switched it to a different material so I’ll see if I get anything tomorrow.
This is the home instance one. It’s been working fine. I gather in the home instance every day but I have not had the mail from the hunters board for two days now. Anyone else?
HoT was mostly awful and definitely not casual-friendly, especially those of us who prefer to mainly play solo. Brutal mobs closely packed together and maps that confounded the capabilities of the mini-map. HoT is the reason I will not be rushing to buy the new expansion. It’s possible the new expansion will be the beginning of the end of my time in the game. Not quite sure yet but I have been treading water for a few months now.
Yes, it is getting overcomplicated, especially on the new maps where each one brings a set of skills that can only be used on that map and that often duplicate abilities we have already seen elsewhere. Do we really need so many different ways to jump higher?
It’s fine when you are focussing on the latest map but when you start dotting between them it’s hard to remember which skills you can get on which map. And why can’t I use those aerial combat skills on other similar maps?
Yup, as above really. You need to use an external website to find out when the meta starts if you want a chance of completing it. As a design decision, it sucks.
As the game has developed I seem to be spending more and more time on other websites trying to find out how to do something in game.
Important things I miss if I dont buy hot

For me HoT is a whole load of bad points with only one good point: gliding. But i do love gliding. Your mileage may vary.
Now that it has been announced I think the meta-game becomes Forum Wars™ where we argue, speculate and generally wind each other up until launch.
I think the OP has a valid point. My preference would be for the first story step to start on the new map and have an NPC to get you there without doing any missions. You know, kinda like “Speak to X in Lion’s Arch about Y”. X gives you a bit of background then transports you to the new map. You then get to…. play your way.
Can’t speak for anyone else but I always, always, always hide the backpack on every toon. So not really any point buying a different one.
The maps already have a lot of waypoints.
Actually, the new maps haven’t. There is a definite trend towards fewer waypoints. I have no idea why they would think this is a good idea.
I like the idea of earning the waypoints on each map but I wish those new ones were just normal waypoints once they are unlocked. I know they are free to use (once unlocked) but why do we need a different map icon for them?
If the latest LS3 episode is anything to go by then the future of the game is…… confused. Invisible updrafts, random teleports, waypoints that don’t show as waypoints and a right old mish-mash of skills on the map-specific skill bar. It’s like they used up all the floor sweepings in one go.
How do you take the scrolls back out?
Enjoy the thread now, because it won’t be long before we get dozens of posts saying “I figured it out in 3 minutes because I’m amazing!”
I’m not amazing and I didn’t figure it out in any amount of time at all. In fact, I just got immensely frustrated and quit the kitten thing.
Those sorts of fights need to be safely tucked away in raids and dungeons where folks who enjoy that stuff can seek them out. The Living Story should be fun and entertaining and not so difficult that you need to go looking for tricks and tips on forums. Normal stuff should be fun not frustrating. Anet seem to have forgotten that.
I’m afraid that for me it’s just a tedious slog-fest. I’m sick and tired of long, drawn-out boss fights and of just dying over and over and over. This may be the first episode of LS3 that I don’t bother to finish. Right now I feel I will not be buying the next expansion. The last couple of episodes had given me hope but with this one it feels like we’ve gone backwards.
I bought it and I like it.
I agree that it would be better if it was available to guests too and I also agree that the description should highlight this but I learned a while back that you should always Google these things before you buy them.
Serious answer:
No, they should be strangled at birth before they grow up into thieving little skrittens.
As stated above, if you are geeky then flush your DNS.
If you are not geeky then reboot the PC and try again.
I’m EU and it worked for me
Weirdly it’s all now OK on my laptop but not my desktop.
The above workaround makes the desktop work too but it’s a bit of a puzzle.
It’s not Mac. It’s server problems. Look at the thread next to this one. They are working on it.
I suppose you could read the official advice here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Connection-error-s-detected-retrying-115/first#post6643415
They know about it and are working on it:
I have same problem …after i press to rapair archive ..it didnt respond now when ever i try to run luncher is saying no connection detected :X what should i do ?
You should read the thread next to this one that is all about the current connection problems. They are working on it.
They know about it and are working on it:
Relax folks. They are on it.
In the meantime this is a great opportunity to step away from that chair and explore the rest of your house/apartment to catch up on family news and to see if you are still married.
Will be the PvP exclusive attributes be implemented in PvE?
No. No they won’t.
Smaller icons please. I have to scroll for miles.
Hehe. Those new icons in the gem shop are way, way too….. BIG!
I almost always join in a fight if I’m passing. It’s not for the loot, it’s just to help.
…xpakittenerally…
That particular kitten filter intervention took me a good 30 or 40 seconds to figure out. But it was worth it hehe.
So…create your own PUG? Problem solved.
That does not always solve he problem as, somewhat surprisingly, you can LFG people into your “chilled out” looting party and then get kicked by them if they have the majority. A strange design decision imho.
Yeah, but lots of us have not bothered to get a guild hall, because it needs outside help and when you get it the size is crazy-big for just a handful of people.
I’d love a guild shed but it ain’t gonna happen so guilds are not really a thing for me. /shrug
I put the goggles there and, let me tell you, I’m pretty annoyed that all you folks think it is OK to just use them without even asking. I have had to spend ages replacing them and they are not exactly cheap. Also, please stop chopping down my saplings and stealing stuff from my vegetable patches.
It’s not a biggie for me but I do agree that small guilds got somewhat shafted.
Guilds are now just not part of my gameplay and my tiny guild is just frozen in time.
For a dead game it sure has a lot of players….
