The time-gating of this and other materials allows patient folks like me to make a modest profit from crafting stuff.
Underwater. With important stuff gated behind mini-games.
Yeah, that’d do it.
I’d be out of the door so fast….
Hardly seen any toxic behaviour at all. Occasionally some complaints about over-zealous squad management but mostly it’s been friendly, forgiving and fun.
Even after reading all this, I still don’t know what the point was. I got confused by the history lesson with the mile-wide generalisations of people and the presumption that the most ‘worthwhile’ rewards are in pvp/wvw, which somehow leads to the game needing more wealthy players who will presumably spend more in the gem store and generation 1950/1960 are those players? My head is spinning.
I assumed it was because us old folks don’t have lightning quick reactions anymore and may also be suffering maladies associated with our advance age. :p
Maladies like grumpiness and belligerence?
Bah! Pesky kids.
So, Endless Mushroom Tonics. Why are they so pricey on the TP?
Aren’t they just a daft toy?
Us proper heroes are not running from a fight, we are running to a much bigger fight and sparing the lives of the poor, undernourished trash mobs who deserve a second chance. And their lootz am rubbish.
Besides, I can come back and kill them later because, for some unexplained reason, they will spend their entire lives just hanging around in that same spot. And when they are despatched their identical brothers will replace them a few minutes later. It’s a bit weird if I’m honest.
Anyway, how do I go about getting a chainsaw?
Is GW2 demanding more and more time from us?

I don’t think you can realistically be a completionist in modern games of this genre. You can try but if, as you say, it becomes a chore then just let some of it go. It’s a bit like going to Glastonbury and wanting to see every single band.
The majority of players probably don’t even know where to find the patch notes, and nor should they imo.
No. Posts like these could make one think there should be a -1 button under the +1 button.
+1 for this!
And on topic. No. Just NO.
Um, is that +1 for -1 ???
Anyhow, I’ve read this thread and I’ll just continue to use the ascended staff that I got for free from some chest somewhere sometime. I think I did swap the stats once.
How can you claim this dose not generate gold for the player doing it?The players doing it do it to get more gold, and the more that learn about this exploit and join in the worse the problem gets and it will cause inflation and damage the game.Makes no difference if its gold direct or mats sold to get gold, more gold is more gold.
Because the gold comes from other players. Everything you sell/buy on the TP just moves gold from one player to another, minus the 15% trading tax. The only “new” gold generated by the AB thing comes from stuff you sell to NPC vendors, the trash stuff that is not really worth anything.
In RL if a zombie punched my arm I’m pretty sure I’d run faster rather than slower.
Unless I had a chainsaw, of course…
The OP’s argument appears to be that players who cannot play for the seven consecutive days that exactly match one GM week have to miss the GM in that week.
Or am I missing something?
And it is, you know, LEGENDARY.
It’s worth a bit of effort.
It’s about the only reason I go into any of those maps. In fact, it’s probably the most fun I have had in HoT.
I’m sure the new system is here to stay but I would certainly vote for the old system given the chance.
It’s referendum time in the UK, the question being asked is whether to #remain in the EU or #leave the EU. I can’t really see a storyline where the humans think about leaving the Pact just because a major political event is happening in one country.
Well, I for one am sick of all those Pacters coming over here telling us what to do, taking our jobs, and our homes, and our women, and then running off with our money laughing whilst our politicians pretend it’s a good thing. Next we’ll be giving equal rights to plants and munchkins. I say we vote Leave. Freeeeeee-dom!
/parody
Actually, a referendum campaign in-game could never reach the level of insanity and dishonesty that we are seeing from both sides in RL UK politics right now. And, similarly, a story-line that mimicked the RL US election race would seem just too far-fetched to be believable. Fact sometimes are stranger than fiction…
I think the problem is a shortage of gems rather than a surplus of gold. The gem shop has had a succession of particularly desirable items in recent months so anyone buying gems with RL $$$ are spending the gems in the shop rather then selling them for gold. I bet the resident economist is loving it!
I role-played it. Someone gave me a token and said “if you carry this you will be attacked”.
So I didn’t carry it…
Seems to me that the biggest problem the F2P friend had was the OP who did not research the F2P limitations and who was trying to get their friend to run before they could walk. Create an F2P account and just play what is in front of you. In time you will unlock all zones and can play pretty much all of the non-HoT game. The real F2P restrictions are the lack of login rewards and trading limitations but there is lots that can be done without them, certainly enough to decide whether you want to stump up some real $$$ for the full game.
Mini-games. Some love ’em, some hate ’em.
For me, they have no place in an RPG, especially if they gate precious mastery points.
Something odd has changed. Client now removes my Windows wallpaper and the whole screen flickers 4 or 5 times before client goes full screen then everything works fine.
I don’t get that error though.
It’s not a gay thing, it’s a gun thing.
If you want to change the world then march against the craziness that is the right to own an assault rifle, a weapon designed specifically to kill many human beings in a short space of time.
If you don’t want to change the world then march for EW, the cheese lover. (Um, do cheese lovers have a flag?)
Yep, it’s been suggested several times recently. The simplest and best solution someone suggested is to designate all those keys as currency so they go into the account-wide wallet that we already have. Sorted!
However, the official word seems to be that there are no plans to changes that stuff.
Who exactly is this core player that keeps being mentioned?
The core demographic of the game is the one you keep denying the existence of, m8.
I don’t really have any fears about another expansion but I sure as heck will not be rushing to buy it. Regardless of the pre-order incentives/bribes I will be waiting until the dust settles and there is an accurate picture of how it plays. And then I’ll seek out a discounted copy. If, as we expect, it comes with “all the previous games and expansions” then I may find it hard to add it to my account rather than using it to start a whole shiny new account, in the same way that I was never happy that adding a second GW1 game to the account gave you fewer new char slots that using it standalone.
I think quite a few of you are ignoring the core GW audience…
I don’t think youtube videos are a very good representation of the state of the game.
I am also puzzled at why anyone would watch videos of people who are unhappy and complaining about the game!
The game seems very much alive to me. I don’t really enjoy the HoT stuff but plenty of others do.
Maybe he was just role-playing his thief.
But, yes, best way is to have a browse and request system. It’s more work for the officers but it prevents folks from taking advantage (assuming your officers are trustworthy!)
Can’t see a report doing any good.
I’m waiting until the nerf it so normal players can solo the finale of their personal story ;p
…<snip>… its just not designed to be an easy fight.
Yeah, that’s why I’ll wait for the nerf, hehe.
It doesn’t need a nerf. While the fight can be very frustrating its difficulty is perfect as it is right now. Considering that people have soloed migraine with multiple classes there is no reason to call for a nerf to the regular instance
Oh, I’m not calling for a nerf. I’m waiting for the nerf that we all know will happen eventually. It’s different ;p
Of course, by the time you’ve saved up enough of that daily 2g the price will have gone up yet more so you will not have saved up enough at all ;p
Being able to convert gold to gems is a real bonus for the game and I’d really miss it but we have to accept that converting real $$$ to gems and/or gold is the priority for anet. They have a game to run.
I have no idea if the rate will ever come back down again.

“keyring” is the word you are seeking and, yes, it would be a truly great thing that would sell like hotcakes if they put it in the gem shop.
I thought this was about Charged Quartz Crystals which are Account-bound, not Quartz Crystals, which can be purchased, and thus are not really time-gated.
<cough, cough> grow lamp <cough cough> 35 gold <cough cough>
I’ve never made grow lamps to sell. Are they more profitable than the ley line tools?
Depends on which bits of the game you prefer to play. I tend not to accumulate much HoT stuff because I don’t enjoy those maps so the ley line tools are not a great option for me. It pays to check prices , because the raw materials sometimes sell for more than the finished article. However, I harvest quartz every day and sometimes that throws up a charged one so it makes sense to find a use for it. Generally anything that includes a time-gated component will make some money, which is why we need time-gated stuff in the game.

The 23 hours would work for me, as would having different fixed times each day, but ideally there would be a way to view the schedule in-game.
Actually, there should be a way to view the schedule in-game with the current system too. It’s daft having to tab out of the game to view the schedule on a website.
I believe there are overlays one can use, if one should be so inclined. No need to tab out, then. Or, use one of the many apps on one’s phone/tablet/etc.
Good luck.
Yeah, but surely there should be a way in-game to find the same info. A diary, calendar or book. Or an NPC you could ask/bribe/beg/whatever.
Folks, just let it go. It’s a game! Not worth stressing over.
I think they are time gated so that those of us who have a bit of patience can make a little profit out of them.

I’m happy for them to under-promise and over-deliver.
Hype-trains always run out of control.
I went for the inventor’s version. All I need now is a way to wear the glasses and a hat at the same time. ;p
It depends what the OP means by race change and why they want to do it.
I would think it would be fairly easy to just change a toon from one race to another whilst keeping all the same history, achievements, level gains and equipment. Any equipment that is race specific becomes useless and is not replaced by anything. There is no option to go back and play the race specific parts of the story. Future encounters treat you as if you have been the new race all along. OK, so your toon history is a bit nonsensical but, hey, it’s a fantasy game. Maybe you had your memory messed up by an Asuran experiment. The gem price would have to be high, as it would have to cover a total makeover and possibly a name change too.
At the other end of the scale is the very ambitious mash-up of undoing any race specific stuff and redoing it as the new race. How would that work? Would you go back to level 1? What about all the “per character” things you have already earned? etc etc. I can;t see this one being viable or even very popular, especially as you can just buy another character slot and start afresh.
But, yes, in software all things are possible…. but…
I would not be happy if they added a GW1-style trading system. The trade window itself was decent but, oh, that endless chat spam just swamped everything else and was not confined to the trade channel. And selling stuff was so slow that I often would not bother.
TP all the way for me – fast, convenient and a great way to see what stuff is really worth.
<snip> All mobs are pretty squishy in fact, except for beetles, but they are clearly not threatening. <snip>
I realise it’s a fantasy game but claiming that almost all HoT mobs are “pretty squishy” is too much.
I bought it and I like it.
I’m not usually one for these type of things but it made me smile.
Yeah. Welcome to HoT. A whole expansion that is targeted solely at the higher skilled players. And Anet wonder why it is not as successful as they hoped….
Yeah….No, the only real content that is targeted at higher skilled players are raids, which does not account for the whole expansion in itself. And we are not forced into it
Maybe you need to read the OP’s post again. That is someone who expected HoT to be harder but is still surprised at the difficulty level. They are not talking about raids. HoT is frustrating rather than fun. It is not a success.
Yeah. Welcome to HoT. A whole expansion that is targeted solely at the higher skilled players. And Anet wonder why it is not as successful as they hoped….
But there’s no Tengu, Koda, Grawl, Oger, skrit or Largose in current mix. They need representing too Mr Penguin, or are you racist towards others that are not part of your master plan for the game?
What if they where a transgender Quaggen? Wouldn’t that be progressive of ANet.
I can’t wait foe your next.inclusive post.
Perhaps ANet should consider adding a transgendered Autistic Quaggan that was raised by Skritt and is sexually attracted to Largose of the same sex s/he used to be and has social problems because it’s a green Quaggan and not a pink one.
Only if he/she is also a single parent with a learning difficulty.
That would be excellent. I would also suggest they add a drinking problem combined with rage issues that were overcome by a 10 step meditation technique learned while learning the ways of the Kodan in an isolated monastery where s/he learns to Kung F’u fight and to walk across rice paper without leaving a mark.
Now you’ve gone too far. Oh, unless they have their own reality TV show, in which case, yeah, that all fits.
I think there can be such a thing as too much diversity. Mushrooms with legs, talking plants and a whole race of folks that seem to be a cross between a Furby and the pre-midnight version of Gizmo.
