As I’m sure we all hate bots and how they ruin our game
Actually, no. I don’t hate them and I don’t think they have any effect on the game. There just are not enough of them to affect anything. Major bot outbreaks quickly get squished. I’m not really that bothered about the rest. Not worth stressing about.
However, report them as instructed above if you want.
Take PC.
Connect to TV near a sofa of your choice.
Sorted.
Yup, HoT box is empty except for a code so either download it all or copy the .DAT file as described above.
If you are going to download it then you can start your laptop going right now using your GW2 account. The download is the same as for HoT so you’d be ready to play when you get the HoT code (and you can see how well GW2 runs on your laptop).
Nope, got mine from amazon and it does have a disc. I didn’t need to use it since I already had GW2 installed, just had to use the code to unlock the content.
That’s weird. I bought two copies of HoT from Amazon, 1 pre-order for me and, later, one “normal” HoT for a member of the family. No disc in either. (scratches head…).
@OP, regardless of the installation method, one decision you do need to make is whether to add HoT to your existing account or whether to set up a whole new account. The former will unlock HoT for all your existing toons. The latter will give you a new blank account with 5 empty char slots and all of core and HoT to play with.
I don’t think clumsy people should be given any sort of weapon at all, never mind legendary ones. It’s just too dangerous.
Next we’ll be blindfolding them and making them run with scissors.
What I don’t like is that if I play a Mesmer and try to do it legitely, people keep begging me to port them. No random player, I’M NOT A WALKING TELEPORTER!
Therefore, I avoid JPs with my Mesmer now.
Are you saying mesmers have another use? Wow. Who knew? ;p
I don’t really understand it when people ask on the forums about how the game is now and should I return etc. Just log in and see for yourself. It costs you nothing but a little time if you already have the game, especially since you said you’ve been wanting to return. Just try it and see
Sometime, in my less charitable moments, I find myself wondering whether posts like the OP’s are genuine questions or just someone finding yet another way to have a pot-shot at the game. Or just trolling, of course…
Either blow them all on mats or keep ’em until that day when something new arrives and you suddenly DO have a use for them. They are not exactly costing you storage space.
We can’t really tell if pop is up or down since HoT but what we can tell is that there are still plenty of players so population is good. HoT maps tends to cause “bunching up” but there are still lots of players.
He came and he went.
Was that it?

PVP always brings out the worst in people in any game.
I’m actually genuinely heartbroken. I preordered the deluxe version of HoT months before a release date, and couldn’t wait to explore the jungle!
I have been waiting for a friend to help me with my final story since october… Tonight we spent 2 and a half hours trying to kill Mordremoth, beating him down to a third of his health, [/spoiler even reuniting me with tybalt,] which, had me choking back a tear… only for the game to not let us jump into the air during his ‘ultimate floor of death’ move or suddenly having our wings disappear during mid glide, then being sent back to the very beginning?! What? WHY?? Fighting Zhaitan was tough, but if I died fighting the mouth, I came back fighting the mouth! Why are there no checkpoints in this fight at all?!
I am not here trying to slag the game off, I truly love this game! I have even defended HoT many times to my friends, even going as far as to say maybe the chaotic feeling in the jungle is to reflect the chaos of the situation. And the story is amazing as always!
But it’s too difficult to just go exploring solo. And so many people I know people who love guild wars 2 who have literally stopped playing because of this expansion. And others who promise if the next expansion isn’t ‘better’ they’ll stop playing too…
And if you are one of the people that aced this all first time, then I am happy for you, but you are not in the majority here.
I have played this whole game solo, only joining groups to do the odd dungeon or fractal. I’m not saying the people on the map now aren’t friendly, but the map is sparse most of the time, and i have been party to more failed missions than successful ones recently. Doesn’t it say something when I’m happier redoing old content rather than exploring the new areas?
Please ArenaNet listen to your players! I understand that some players want a ‘Real Challenge’ you have provided raids to people who want to push themselves to the max, but it’s unfair to us who play because we love the story, our characters, and your universe, to now have us play on insane mode to experience new content is ridiculous.
Now i’m not sure when, or if, I even want to try the last part of my story again, I will probably stay in central tyria just having fun instead.
Right here is what I believe is anet’s core demographic. Ignore them at your peril.
I need to clarify, because I have muddied the waters a little with my flippancy. I’m not really begging for help in fractals.
The point I am making is solely about pugging fractals. Prior to the patch, players who regularly did high level fractals had an incentive to also do low level fractals, which led to very diverse, chilled and enjoyable low-level fractal parties. Now they have no reason at all to do those fractals, which has lowered the average skill-level in those low-level parties.
It’s an unintended side-effect of anet trying to persuade more folk to do the higher levels. I’m not really doing fractals any longer. But that is my choice.
@OP. Apologies for hijacking the thread. I don’t agree with some of your views but you are free to hold them.
And on the flip side… I love many changes in the new patch but not the new fractals!
I only do low-level fractals and pug teams doing tier 1 stuff now suffer from the absence of the higher-skilled players who don’t need to do the tier 1 stuff because that reward is included in the tier 4 stuff. I’ve had some truly comical fractal experiences this week. So, I say to all you fractal gods, spare a thought for us less-uber players and come help us for fun in tier 1 sometimes. A mixed team can carry a couple of inexperienced (or drunk…) players through a fractal as long as a couple of the other players know what they are doing. At times it has felt like I am herding cats….
I see your point however it is not fair to expect to be carried on fractals or any content if anything the thing that can kitten me of the worst is bad players in the game. If you want to do them faster 1 get better and get friends 2 get better and get a good fractal guild. the best fractal guild atm in my opinion is immortal kingdom for example.
Ah, I’m afraid I have to withdraw the cordial invitation to join us in lower level fractals. It seems you belong up there, looking down on the little people. I guess there is no you in “team”. Actually, you might be in the wrong game.
So, a summary of this thread might be:
1. The game does nothing to help players learn about CC and break bars.
2. The skill descriptions do nothing to help players work out what skills count as CC (be they soft, hard or, um, tweenie).
3. But it’s OK, because you mostly don’t need CC to kill stuff.
It’s not exactly a compelling argument in favour of players changing their habits.
On the other hand people complain about HoT being too difficult but CC makes it much easier …
Yeah, if only they knew eh?
Or even cared ;p
I assume he meant “stalking”.
I don’t care about PvP and WvW but definitely “no no no” to challenges/duels in PvE maps. It was a disaster in Neverwinter when they mixed PvE and PvP on the same map. Chat was full of abuse, taunts and expletives and there was just a bad vibe on those maps.
In GW2 PvE is the friendliest place in all of MMORPG-land. Please don’t spoil it.
Blimey m8. Maybe start a new paragraph now and again!
No, I don’t think it is a problem either. Exotic armour is available from karma vendors and karma is something most of us have in abundance. I’d happily store a couple of sets if I wanted to experiment. Beyond that I’d probably just dump the gear and buy more karma stuff if I wanted it back.

How come they haven’t invented flame-throwers mounted on pick-up trucks?
I’m pretty sure the invention of the wheel should come before teleporters and robots.
And napalm. Oh, and weedkiller. Surely that would work.
Hey guys, is our attention span so bad that we forgot about this already?
Forgot about what?
Ooh! Look! A new patch! And Chaos Gloves! CHAOS GLOVES EVERYONE!!!! Oooooooooh!
And on the flip side… I love many changes in the new patch but not the new fractals!

I get that you are upset. I don’t think the invisible whirlpools are anything to do with client side graphics. I suspect that the “take the boss down” sequence proceeds so rapidly that the whirlpools never get rendered. But they are definitely still there and I have definitely been pulled down into one at least twice when nothing at all showed and when the boss fight had moved on to the next phase. They do spawn. Trust me!
Dive into any SW map and do whatever the map is doing. Some maps are the event chain, some are chest farming. You’ll soon get to your 400 and you’ll have loads of other loot as well. And it can be quite enjoyable.
i originally read the title of this as ‘colin fed savage o matic refund’. an i laughed
At last! After all the crazy conspiracy theories it’s good to know the truth about Colin’s demise. Poor Colin. I wonder what they salvaged from him….
I think they are almost always there but often don’t show. I’ve definitely been pulled into a couple that were completely invisible.
Suggest you just keep hanging around in that front area. The tail thing was the one that took me ages. Everyone had a different suggestion for that one but in the end I got it by being vaguely near the tail without doing anything else.
And don’t forget that every time you do the Teq event you have a decent chance of winning…. a spoon!
OK, so it’s probably a broken spoon but it’s nothing that a bit of epoxy won’t fix. I can’t think of any other game in the history of gaming that has handed out free cutlery!
The last couple of days the dailies have been much more central Tyria based. Maybe they tweaked them or maybe it’s the roll of the dice. The spend badges WvW one is also now on my list, at least until I run out of badges (but WvW is not PvE).
Simple question: Does the home portal stone transport other party members too or just the owner?
I’m curious. How did they set up a WOW server. Is the software available for folks to do that?
What? Steam has had offline mode forever. They don’t lock you out of your offline single player games when your internet is down…
That’s exactly what it did for me. Offline Steam is not truly offline. It still talks to its server if it’s available. My Steam decided I could not play my full priced, boxed, offline single-player game until I updated the Steam client. Except the Steam client would not update. And thus began a long tedious tale of fiddling, re-installing, tech support, reformatting (yes, really) and even a different PC. Nothing worked. I’d been playing the game for weeks just fine. Then I couldn’t, just because Steam screwed it up. Neither Steam nor the game publisher were interested. So I download an illegal copy of the game I had paid for, which worked fine but I had to start my toon from scratch. Remember, this is for a game that has no on-line or multiplayer aspect.
So yeah, I consider Steam to be evil.
Cyn, I don’t want to fall out with you m8 but saying “I love Steam” is equally as mindless or mindful as saying “I hate Steam”.
And we’re all opinionated. That’s why were are on a forum.
Peace.
Check your online retailers. Over here in the UK the price is already down to 23 UKP at Amazon.
Also I was responding to the ignorant steam hate (which as it turns out is just that, mindless hate).
Yeah, it’s easy to dismiss the opposite viewpoint as ignorant and mindless.
My hate for Steam is neither. My hate for Steam is mindful, considered, directed and fully justified. My hate for Steam is real. Steam and other Valve products will never enter this house again.
I’ve experienced game DRM systems since ~1982 (LensLok anyone?) and Steam is by far the most insidious and underhand. Steam is evil.
Other opinions are available…
Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.
It’s main purpose is for shared equipment.
Put a salvage-o-matic in that slot and say goodbye to disposable salvage kits forever on all your toons
Likewise for all the permanent “summon trader/bank/whatever”, teleport to airship etc etc.
The ability to transfer between characters is a secondary benefit really. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy them. They are not compulsory. I bought 5 and I’ll probably buy the other 5 when I have accumulated enough gold. HoT owners have been given one for free in the last update.
Incidentally, they were on sale not so long ago. About 20% off iirc.
It’s hard to figure out stuff in boss fights because there are loads of folks attacking at the same time and you are (hopefully) dodging and healing as well as fighting. You certainly don’t have the luxury of trying a skill and seeing what it does. The meaner the boss, the more chaotic the fight. In the matriarch fight mentioned by the OP half the players are busy avoiding the ads, jumping out of the flames fire and trying to res those that did not.
It’s a casual game. Some folks just want to play it rather than research it. Some other folks don’t like that, but that does not make them right.
I agree. I main an ele and I’d love to be able to rearrange the skills for each attunement so that the skills reflect the my “normal” rotation and so the main “run away” skills are on the same key.
I’d also love to be able to put the heal skill at one end of the keyboard. #6? Who thought that was a good idea???
I’d actually love to see them go further and allow us to mix and match skills much like GW1 but I know that is never going to happen.
Steam is evil because Valve are evil.
Steam is malware, unwantedware, surplusware, wastemytimeware, a boil on the face of the industry. If games were only available through Steam I would stop gaming.
But make your own mind up ;p
Suggest you start by playing core for a while and see how you feel.
Difficulty level in HoT is harder than core. That pleases some folks and displeases others.
Gliding is cool, and you can do it all over core maps too.
The auto-loot mastery is probably the most useful in general play. No more picking over dead bodies for your paltry green weapon and 20 copper.
And, yeah, shop around. HoT discounts are out there if you look.
Or they could change the mechanic to be more obvious and intuitive…
The blue bar is pretty obvious.
Yes, the bar is obvious but it’s not obvious what it does, how to reduce it or why you should reduce it, especially if you are just one of several dozen players battering away at the boss. Take a break bar to zero and maybe it means that the boss does not take off, or does not make a special attack, or does not do something else. It’s quite hard to notice that something has not happened in the chaos of battle. Not many folk take the time and trouble to learn each boss’s specific behaviour.
Contrast that with other games where the boss has, for example, a visible shield/aura with its own health bar. It’s very obvious that you have to take that down first and you can see when the shield goes. Similarly with bosses that have more than one hit location. Take out the wings and he can’t fly. Take out the tail and, guess what, no tail attack.
The break bar mechanic is just a bit vague and not entirely logical. I’m pretty sure many players do not even know the terms “defiance bar” or “break bar”. One thing is for sure, just yelling “CC!” in chat never does any good.
Or they could change the mechanic to be more obvious and intuitive…
Just for a change, it would be nice to be beaten up by something other than mushrooms and shrubberies.
I don’t do many fractals since the patch but “casual pug” would describe me perfectly.
I’m too long in the tooth to let another casual pug rile me in chat, and in GW2 that sort of behaviour is rare, but it does amuse me when someone starts ranting about the pugs in the party, as if they are not also a pug.
It’s one of those things that you cannot learn just from playing the game. You either need to look on wiki, dulfy, youtube etc or be specifically told in the chaos of chat. It’s a casual game. Most players don’t do much research because: game.
So it’s hardly surprising that folk don’t know about it. Even if you know that you a meant to be CC’ing it’s not obvious which of the skills on your bar count as CC and folk get confused between conditions and control. And most bosses still die without any CC, it just takes longer. Global knowledge of it could be greatly improved with a break bar “tool tip” and with CC skills clearly labelled in their description.
I also find it a bit of an illogical and unintuitive mechanic. It feels like a bit of an artificial way to prolong a fight.
Well, it is supposed to be LEGENDARY.
I have an asc weapon and two pieces of asc armour, all from random drops. I had a plan to craft the remaining pieces but the cost is such that whenever I craft one of the components I end up selling it on the TP rather than stashing it. There may come a day where my priorities change but for now I’ve got better uses for the gold!
Adventures should be a side show for those that want to do them. It’s fine for them to have high scores, league tables, achievements and titles but they should not have mastery points behind them and they should not be part of the dailies imo.
I’ve always found it a bit strange that lower tier mats are more rare and more expensive than the top tier stuff, hence people saving up bags to open on mid-level toons. It’s a particular problem with leather because you can’t target specific nodes like you can with ore and wood.
The solution is really simple. Anyone salvaging stuff should have a chance of getting mats of that tier and lower. Sorted.
Plus, Steam is evil.
Not sure I’d put my hands in them. They look kinda dangerous.
Plus, you know, CHAOS! Your fingers might end up in a different dimension. Or in several different dimensions.
Be careful out there, kids.
