I think the main problem here is that Core Tyria and HoT have different target audiences. In my opinion the target audience for Core Tyria is the unexperienced player and the target audience for HoT is the average player.
I think HoT is aimed at the “above average” player and, by definition, half the players in the game are not above average. It’s a strange commercial decision to aim a whole expansion at only half of the player base.
GW1 and GW2 have always been “mostly easy” so it’s hardly surprising that some folk are not happy with the difficulty level of HoT. Which is why I think we’ll see more HoT nerfs as time goes on.
Unless it becomes an epidemic I find it hard to care about that stuff.
If it does become an epidemic then the devs will squish it.
So I just ignore that stuff and get on with playing the game.
I craft most days and make gold out of it. It’s part of my regular game activities.
I don’t remember the Teq spoon being particularly painful. I think it just dropped whilst I was doing all the Teq achievements.
And where does he keep all those spoons anyway? He has no pockets…
More violets, less violence.
That’s what I say
My thread on the same subject:

TL;DR; It dropped in EB from a vet guard outside a tower.
(I certainly would not have spent a year trying to get it!)
You can get the first part of the guild bank for 50 gold and 1000 favor without needing a guild hall or any other upgrades. Beyond that, yup, a solo guild is stuffed.
The 1000 favor can be earned in a few days by doing the open world guild missions, esp the “follow and assassinate” ones, as other guilds will be killing the same target so you just need to get a few hits in.
Trading some dps for health and toughness will make your build more forgiving. Full glass builds are hard to play in most games. Miss one dodge/block/whatever and you’re eating the dirt. Some people like that, some don’t.
It is just personal preference but I just can’t come to terms with plant people.
Actually you can still buy core without HoT, at least until stocks run out at various retailers. I’ve seen prices as low as £15 for a new, sealed, boxed GW2. So if you want a second account and are not bothered about HoT…
This morning I spent 20 minutes farming platinum and hard wood in Sparkfly Fen and Timberline Falls. I don’t know the optimum routes and I did not use any guides but I still made 6 gold in 20 minutes, and that was selling at the “instant” price on the TP. If I made an effort to learn the routes and was more patient with the TP selling I’d have made significantly more so, yes, 10g per hour is easily achievable, maybe double that if you really go for it although it would get a bit tedious after a while.
There are loads of other mats that will also yield a decent income per hour. I guess the secret is to find something you enjoy doing, or at least something that does not drive you too crazy. I can only tolerate 3 or 4 circuits of the SW chest farm at one time so I try to mix it up a little.
I don’t know if I would call them broken but the update has definitely had an impact on lower tier fractals.
I used to do the lowest tier fractal daily every day, always 2-10-X where X was the “named one” that day. I’d just join a random LFG group and it was almost always quick and smooth to get them done and there was a real mix of players from “pro” to, um, not so pro. Occasionally you got a player or two who were squishy or new or just clueless but it didn’t matter because the team as a whole got through it and it was very rare for there to be any complaints or bickering.
Since the update it seems that those “pro” players have moved to other things which I think are probably:
- The higher tier fractals because they automatically get the lower rewards
- The buffed dungeons
That leaves the lower level fractals typically only attracting the lower-skilled and less-experienced players. I’ve had more struggling/failing fractals in the last week than in the previous 3-4 months. In the lower level fractals you only need 2 or 3 players in the team to know what they are doing to succeed but that does not seem to be very common now. It’s a shame to have lost that player diversity in those fractals.
Consequently, I’m doing fewer fractals than before.
TL;DR;
I think the new regime has diverted the better players to higher level fractals to the detriment of the lower level fractals.
It definitely used to divert XP overflow to another mastery track unless all the tracks were already at a “upgrade point” Can’t say whether it still does as I am nowhere near filling any of the remaining bars…
You don’t need to have HoT “fully explored” to do the adventures or really any of the HoT dailies. Just run to the relevant area.
This is a wholly unnecessary change. It doesn’t seem worth the dev time in the slightest.
Today’s daily requires you to have the correct mastery unlocked and that takes millions of XP. Just offer a greater variety of dailies and let us play the ones we want.
But you still haven’t presented where any undue difficulty is. You prefer to do PvE dailies of which there are 4. You can do 3 of those easily, while 1 you cannot yet do. You need to get 3 done. Where is the real problem you’re facing?
It’s not a problem m8. It’s just that I now do fewer dailies. Is that what the devs wanted? Is that what you want? Why would you want me to have fewer choices?
On a previous day I was given events in TD – a map which I had never been to and an adventure which was not available due to the meta being active.
More choice = more inclusive.
The wiki page for Daily achievements lists the low-level achievements. Is it still possible for level 80 accounts to complete those? If so, that could increase the possibility of doing all non-HoT PvE dailies.
I wondered that. My lowest toon is now in the 20s so those alternative stopped working at some point but I there is a decent chance they would work if I had a lower level toon.

My grumpy tip is to make sure you have the correct mastery before battling all the way to the start point. Not very happy that I got given a daily that I’m a couple of million XP short of being able to even attempt.
See, I told you I was grumpy.
Today one of the dailies is a HoT adventure in TD. It took me 3 deaths and 10 minutes to find it and 5 seconds to discover that I can’t play that adventure because I don’t have the correct mastery yet. That’s not a great choice for a daily.

PVP has always been a side show to this genre of game imho.
A noisy motorbike mount would be useful for drowning out some of those annoying legendary weapon sounds ;p
(Edit: flood control is now 5 minutes between posts????)
Speaking on behalf of my main toon who is an old fat bloke who does not like heights, he’s 100% happy for jumping puzzles to exist in the game but he thinks they should be a side dish not a main course.
If they are to remain a main course then at least give us more responsive controls and a camera that can give us a better view of where the heck we are.
It’s a HoT thing. Buy HoT, get an instant equipped lvl 80 Revenant so you can play the new class on the new maps right away.
Scrape. Scrape. Scrape.
Wow, I’m seriously impressed. I think it definitely took me more than 3 scrapes ;p
I look back and wonder where the heck I got all that time from and what else I could have been doing. I did cartographer and vanquisher together, without using any helper tools. The last fraction of a percent took days and days of revisiting maps…
That would be the Colin who has left.
Just no to compensation for this stuff. Things change, prices change. If they compensate for this then they should compensate for all sorts of other stuff and suddenly we are playing Compensation Wars, and the devs become reluctant to change anything because of all the “virtual paperwork” it will cause.
Those pixels are not real and are subject to change (and are, actually, worthless…).
If mounts do not exist in GW2 lore, how come I keep getting killed in HoT by fellas riding raptor type things?
It’s not about value for money or need. The silver and copper salvage-o-matics combined with the shared inv slots make for a uber-convenient salvage system across every toon on your account.
I’m also a bit confused by the new fractal dailies. It would help if they listed the applicable fractal numbers in the title as well as in the description.
I’ve ended up in the “wrong” one and I’ve also been in the “right” one with other players who are not in the fractal they need!
Note – what follows is a view on PVE only. I don’t play the other modes.
I think it is good that there are now some HoT dailies but I think they should be in addition to the existing ones. I was in the habit of doing the dailies on a lower level toon where possible for a bit of variety and XP but the new bias towards HoT means that most dailies now need a level 80 toon.
So I set off on my main to do the minigame. Double figure deaths later I reached the entry point for it only to find that it was disabled due to the meta. That’s not something I will be doing again. I think there will now be days where I do not complete the “3 pve daily things” task. They just need to add a couple more options to the list each day. Give us a bit more choice.
Not sure about drop rate changes but it now takes a bit longer to match the dailies with lfg listings but I’ll probably get better at remembering which number matches which fractal.
Or you could, um, you know, just butt out and leave them alone? If it offends you that they’re having issue with this, then you must really struggle dealing with people out in the real world.
Not offended. Just amused at the OTT QQ’ing over something you got for free.
All arguments against mounts in game were invalidated when gliders were introduced.
I almost feel like I’m on a different forum. lol
I could try to hurl some abuse at you and complain about game stuff if it would make you feel better.
But the truth is, I’m pretty happy with most of the stuff so my heart would not be in it.
You can probably earn 2g in less time than it takes to do the dailies.
A great patch. I love it.
They’ve been working hard. Give ’em a bit of credit.
Dear Mr MO and the team
I also think your job is to delight us with what you ship.
And….
You’ve succeeded!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
A great update.
I am officially delighted!
And then, one day in the future, you’ll have maxed the masteries and you’ll realise that all of them except gliding are only useful in the maps you are now tired of!
“Congratulations on graduating from wizard school. Budget constraints mean that we can no longer present you with the traditional gnarled staff and pointy hat so here is your very short dagger. Good luck, buddy!”
Anet might not have sales on the game itself (at least not currently, they have done before) but other retailers often do.
HoT is £23 on Amazon right now, down from £35 and I’ve seen varying prices at other retailers too. It’s just a matter of shopping around.
Where? I just looked and do not see it. I see a used one for 30 and there is no way id trust a used pc game.

I didn’t really get the point of it but I’m glad it made some of you folk happy!
Another annual festival for the calendar is always welcome.
I think they are keeping quiet because they don’t want to spoil the surprise when all 16 legendaries arrive today.
I suppose other reasons are possible too.
According to the OP a couple of months ago the only things they like about the game makes for a very short list:
I can tell you where it shines:
Graphics
Race lore
Character creation
MapIt fails everywhere else – where it should keep our attention.
Unless they create and delete a new toon each day there is not much in that list to keep ’em busy. /shrug
Also, I have extra complaints:
That really does not surprise us. We get that you want it to be GW1, but it isn’t. It’s different and if that makes you unhappy you have the power to do something about it.
I’m looking forward to seeing what tomorrow’s patch brings but I might avoid the forum afterwards.
Spare a thought for the poor forum mods who will have to deal with the usual rage about what changes were not made, plus the usual rage about what changes were made. We’re a tough crowd to please…
Just like in real life where everything suits everyone, where birds sing and roses bloom as I pass by. Because just like me, they long to be, close to you.
GH, you just made me laugh out loud.
The simplest answer is that I always seem to find something else to spend the gold on.
The longer answer is that I’ve never been one to chase items in games purely for prestige. In GW1 you’ll find all of my toons wearing the cheapest max armour (from the docks iirc). My main has an ascended weapon and two bits of ascended armour that all dropped from somewhere. One day I might get round to making the rest of the armour but probably not.
One thing that puts me off those legendaries is the really annoying sounds that some of them make. That would drive me nuts, or at least make me turn off the sound.
I can see why this divided the community

Of course there is a place for more challenging and harder content. I don’t think anyone would dispute that. The issue with HoT is that it is ALL in that category. It’s a bizarre decision to launch a paid-for expansion that only targets a subset of the player base. Casual players either have not bought the xpac, or have bought it and are not playing it because they don’t enjoy it. Both of those cases have a real impact on Anet’s business, both now and with future expansions. Those players are not going to “L2P” or “git gud”. They are just going to spend less or seek an alternative game.
It’s too late now but they really needed to include some easier maps and events in the xpac. One thing’s for sure, I won’t be rushing to pre-order the next xpac.
@OP. None of us really know what is coming tomorrow but I doubt it will be enough of a nerf for you based on your description.
I’d like to see a little bit of a nerf rather than a full-on nerf.
