There is something about that Gwen outfit that is just not right. It might be the colour hues or the choice of fabric. Or it may be that it just does not suit my 9 foot high male bearded Norn. But I think it is probably the colours… ;p

(I’m sure they have plenty more outfits in the pipeline)

It desperately needs a better mini-map that can show height and the main map needs to be pseudo-3D rather than having to select a “layer” to view. It’s fine to make terrain that is difficult to explore but once we have explored it we really need better tools to help us get back to a particular place.

The majority of player do not come to the forums, do not read the patch notes and do not even know that anything has changed.

And it’s pretty obvious that the majority of players do not have legendaries because:
1. They cost a huge amount to make, more than most players will ever see.
2. Just look around you in game. Even in the harder areas, legendaries are still in the minority.

Because a majority of players are not pleased with the cancellation of something that was promised..

I don’t think that is true at all. Some players are not pleased. The majority of players will never own a legendary.

Also, many people bought HOT exclusively for legendaries..

Once again, I think you mean some people rather than many people.

I get that it is an important issue but don’t exaggerate it.

Tequatl jump pads require HoT/Gliding

I don’t know whether they have changed that but what I would say is that you don’t need those pads to do Teq. I’ve done it loads of times and got all the achievements just by running around on foot. For quite a while I did not even know the pads were there.

And anyhow, buy HoT. It’s great! (Insert cheesy two-thumbs-up emoticon here).

For all those wanting it to be permanent, three words: Super Mario World.
Same game, except you can play it forever, you get a camera that is not drunk, and you get a jump mechanic that is slick rather than clunky.

Regardless of that, given that it looked like SAB was never ever coming back maybe you should just be happy that it is now an annual festival. Festivals are always welcome – they bring a bit of variety. It would not feel so special if it was permanent and I suspect that it would quickly become stale, because there is not really that much gameplay in there.

Most folk will not get all the skins this time around. That means they have something to do the next time around, and something to look forward to….

The game really isn’t very much like Super Mario(and I think you got the wrong Mario anyway as World is 2D and doesn’t have a camera). It’s like a 3D Clash at Demonhead, which really isn’t available anywhere else.

That said, I’m already tired of it and I don’t why people choose to keep grinding at it after boredom and instead wait for it to come back next year.

Oh, now you’ve got me thinking. I’ve definitely played a few 3D Marios on GameCube and (iirc) SNES but I’ve been playing Mario games since before he was called Mario so I get the names somewhat confused. I’ve also played a zillion other platformers that went 3D at some point and somewhere amongst those is one that SAB reminds me hugely of. I’d have sworn it was a Mario one.

Anyhow, my point still stands. SAB (and the rest of the game) has a dreadful camera system for jumping stuff. There are times when you need to make a jump but your best view just shows you an extreme close-up of the wall, or the tree, or your feet. You end up shuffling towards the platform edge just to help the camera. It’s a problem that was solved a decade or two ago by other games so I’m not sure why GW2 is quite so bad at it. So I get the cuteness and the novelty of SAB but for that type of game play there are much better games out there (and maybe an excuse to buy an antique console ;p)

I reckon if I was Anet and I needed/wanted to divert dev effort away from legendaries I’d make a forum thread about it, prod it along for a few hours then leave it to descend into players arguing amongst themselves, as all such threads do.

Then I’d instruct customer services to take a hard line on refund requests and set the dev team on whatever I was planning for them to do anyway. I might look in on the thread occasionally and chuckle at the naive threats of legal action and wildly-wrong guesses at the composition and activity of the dev teams.

It’s a done deal and we are well short of a big enough rebellion to change it. There are actually only a few dozen folks complaining loudly, and some of them are the ones who complain about everything.

I also believe that legendaries will return in the future, maybe in a slightly different form, but there will be some insanely expensive shiny stuff for us to work towards. In the meantime “Ooh look! Shiny SAB!” and “Ooh look! The shiny spring update!”

Also, did you know that the word gullible isn’t in the dictionary?

You may mock but in my totally completely scientific tests, the first twice I tried it not many players jumped and we did not get in but the third time loads of us jumped and did get in. I guess there could be some sort of other explanation, like paranormal activity or alien intervention, but I think we can all agree that those scenarios are extremely unlikely and that there is no other possible explanation. After all, science is truth.

Now, where did I put that dictionary…

Base game Toggle Glider Option please?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

It’s just that the two functions share the same key.
Short-press = jump
Long-press = jump and deploy glider

The long press is really handy to maximise your gliding height, which I’m sure is why they implemented it like that, but it is really annoying if you accidentally do it whilst aiming to jump onto a small ledge/rock/branch.

It’s hard to undo years/decades of platform gaming muscle memory where you press for longer/harder to make a bigger jump. On particularly tricky jumps, the adrenaline starts to flow and I sometimes overdo the key press. I can’t be the only person who pushes insanely hard on the key and leans towards the screen in an effort to jump a bit further. After all, everyone knows that video game rally cars turn sharper corners if you lean into the turn and grimace (…)

So being able to separate the jump and glide keys would work, or unequipping the glider, or maybe just making the long press a bit longer. It’s not an absolute show-stopper but there have been enough forum posts to indicate that it is affecting more than a couple of players.

Compensation regarding scribe/decorations?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

From me, it’s an absolute “No No No” to any form of compensation and not just in this case.
If the compensation culture gets hold then the devs will end up being unable or unwilling to make changes or introduce new stuff because of the burden of having to compensate half the players for stuff they already had. We saw the same thing with the shared bag slots. If you buy something today, you pay today’s price for it. What happens to the price tomorrow is not relevant.

And to anyone who spent RL cash on guild decorations, you are free to make that choice but always be aware of the sequence:
RL Cash → Pixels → No residual value

If you are hoping to inspire an international standard for consistently tagging forum thread titles then give up now. This is the Internet. Most folks can’t even be bothered to post in the correct sub-forum.

However, if you want to start an argument about exactly what form those tags should take then carry on. Because this is the Internet, where the most insignificant, petty detail can start a war.

I can’t believe you want to use square brackets. Only an idiot would choose square brackets. Curly brackets are much better. (<- this is a joke…)

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

I’m not sure that making raids easier or adding an easy mode to exiting raids would lead to many more players doing them. A sizeable chunk of the player population just are not interested in raids, regardless of the difficulty. Coordinated PVE team play is a very different game style to most of the rest of the PVE game. Chances are if you are the sort of person that enjoys raiding then you are already doing it.

Super Adventure Box makes me sad...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

I think their most competent devs and artists came up with the SAB design and it was unexpected from Anet that it would be of such a high success and of such original quality.
Basically they see SAB as a competition to their own game, as something that will take players away from their open world, raids, dungeons, etc.

It was a huge mistake on their part not to make it a more important part of Guild Wars 2, since it’s probably the best thing that happened to Guild Wars 2 in it’s 4 years life-cycle. They could have made it work if they had more vision, just like WvW could have been 5 times more engaging than it was if they actually cared.

For me it’s over, I uninstalled the game last week even with the return of SAB. The cancellation of SAB future worlds, WvW complete disaster, removal of long terms rewards and the fact my friends have left already was enough to make me move on.

If you’re still compelled to post here, you haven’t moved on.

+1 and +1 again. If it’s over for you, why are still posting about it? When it’s over you either rage quit and post a insanely-crazy-angry (and amusing) last post on the forum or. more commonly, you just fade away, playing less and less until one day you realise you have not played for a month.

[Player-Kicking] For no real reason.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

Not long after I started doing fractals I got kicked, fractal #4 I think.

My heinous crime was to summon a Snow Wurm. I know they do very little damage but as a solo PVE player it was something I’d tend to use when running away from stuff. Drop the wurm as you run and it draws all the aggro.

Anyhow, it seemed there was not much room for discussion. He hit chat with “snow wurm wtf” and I was on my way back to LA about 2 seconds later. We were actually doing OK in the mission so it can only be that he felt embarrassed that one of his team was less than perfectly optimised. Did I mention that it was a fairly easy low-level fractal and that we were doing OK? Anyhow, I guess some folks are just like that. I’ve messed up a few times in fractals since then but never been kicked. I only play 1-20 so maybe it is more common as the difficulty ramps up on the higher levels.

@OP. Just forget it and move on and be glad it’s not like a certain other game where you can kick someone just before the boss dies and gain a larger share of the loot as a result.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/So-what-do-I-do-with-all-these-asc-rings

The consensus seems to be that infused rings are worth salvaging but the non-infused rings are not. I’ve now got about 50 rings sitting on an alt, all from low-level fractals and I can’t bear to sell them for a few silver each. That will probably change as bag space runs out…

why should we be listening to your opinion

Based on your forum posts I think you are not capable of listening to any opinion other than your own, m8.

All games of this genre need seasonal events that come and go. It keeps things fresh. This particular festival is handily filling in the long gap between Chinese New Year and the summer festival. Whether I like this festival is not especially relevant. The lobby area yesterday was packed with excited happy players, and I’m happy for that. I love that the event is here. If it was always here it would no longer be an event and the lobby would be dead after a few weeks.

I’m not afraid of raids, I’m just not interested in that type of content. Always someone ordering you around, telling you what to equip, where to stand, what skills to use. That’s just not my thing but I’ve got no problem with raids being in the game. I’m amazed that the devs did not give raiders a dedicated LFG channel or some sort of “lobby” to help them assemble and prepare.

There are plenty of raid guilds out there and they do advertise in LA chat.

It has to be seasonal or it will not be so special. Part of the fun is the buzz and excitement when it arrives

Having said that, being new to SAB I’ve spent about 30 minutes in there and I feel like I’m done with it. I am from the 8-bit era so my first impression was one of amusement. I wandered around, played the first part of the first world, got a few baubles, looked at the shop and, um, that will probably be it for me.

But I’m happy that it makes so many players happy.

Happiliy I finished the Casual Fractal Hero thing this evening. Lots of others doing the same ones so we all bumbled our way through them. I was a good way through F20 before I realised that my projectile attacks were reflecting right back in my face. That explains the excessive damage I was taking. It’s all learning and we had one experienced, and very patient, player who stuck with it and kept us on the right track.

So I appreciate the heads up about the changes. I would have been a bit miffed to see the achievement shelved with me 90% through it.

I’ve no real desire to push on with the fractals above 20 though.

I already owned GW2. The game I played the last 7 months was mostly core content so that’s innacurate.

The expansion I payed for has major advertised features that have still not gone live. One major feature has been cancelled so yes, I would ask for a refund as services paid for will not be delivered. The fact that I was willing to allow them 7 months to implement said features should not count against me.

So have you actually asked for a refund and been told you can have one?

Indefinitely™ is equal to many many soon™‘s but not as much as never.

I think his choice of words was intended to lower expectations but to leave the door open for them in future. I expect we’ll see legendaries return at some point but not in the near future, and maybe not in the same form as we know them today. I suspect there is already be a vague plan for them but they are keeping their options open for now. The initial wave of rage is already subsiding so they will probably give it a few weeks before they kitten the impact on the footfall in the game. I’m sure they will lose some players but I think some of those players may have been close to being done with the game anyway.

Time will tell I guess.
