The absolute best thing about HoT is that it now lets me glide in core Tyria.
Perhaps not the best accolade it could have got.
Yeah, the singles are also “deeply discounted”. Same unit price, just less convenient if you want to buy 30, which is something I have been doing most days recently. I was wondering why they would remove the 5 packs having created them in the first place. I guess the discount is relative to the other ways you can get them.
Best tip I saw for these and the divine envelopes is to move the vendor window so the item you are buying is right next to the OK button so you can double-click then click OK for each one. But, tbh, all vendors should just be able to sell you stuff in bulk with a slider bar or something.
And on the same theme, what happened to the 5-packs of deeply discounted fractal keys? Used to buy 6 packs of 5. Now buy 30 individual ones.
To anyone here in need that are also on NA servers:
Ever since I got a 2nd mesmer up to the goggles to help out Lanfear (hiya!), I have been porting players (single and groups) to the chest and then from the chest to the goggles (and both legendary collection points) with dual mesmers almost every day.
I also give succinct pointers for getting the dive now, which usually results in a successful first try. If you are interested in some mesmer assistance to get the dive/legendary collection spots, and are also on NA servers, feel free to message me in-game.
That offer is almost worth moving continents for.
To be fair, this forum is way less complaint-driven than many official gaming forums.
I’d never buy from those dodgy-sounding sellers who will email you the unlock code but I see no problem in buying the physically boxed version from reputable outlets like Amazon.
Yep, I enjoyed it. Mostly because it was utterly chaotic because no-one has really sussed it yet but also because of the mass wipe at the start where we were deliberately standing in the “wrong” place for the daft achievement.
It made me wish that other world bosses would vary their tactics sometimes. Imagine if Teq sometimes landed in a different spot, or started with an assault on the main laser, or simply ate the nearest commander.
I was hoping there might be a mastery point involved though.
Thanks.
PVP is really not my thing so I just wanted to make sure I was not missing out on other activities. On the wiki I managed to get Dragon Ball confused with Dragon Bash so I was expecting Moa Racing and stuff.
It’s my first LNY. Are there any activities other than Dragon Ball?
Yep, panic over. Logged out, patched with the new build and it’s back, along with some hundreds of APs. Gotta love software land.
It’s gone from the list. I’ll give it a few builds to see if it comes back then put a ticket in.
Just got a mail in game saying my (properly earned) GWAMM title has been removed. Anyone else seeing this?
Great set of patch notes I reckon.
They’ve been working hard.

I agree that EotN brought more challenge but the step change was nowhere near that of HoT and there was one very important difference : map freedom. You could choose to skirt around most of those mobs and then pick your fights where you needed to. The HoT maps are much more constrained by terrain so you have less choice about what you fight and where you fight it. And, of course, you had the handy heroes in GW1, always willing to step up and take the heat on your behalf whilst you ran away, um, I mean performed a cunning strategic manoeuvre.
(One thing I do think GW2 lacks are those wide ranging patrols. They really did keep you on your toes.)
Yep, sadly the guide is correct, although it should maybe start with a health warning about this particular dive hehe. I wonder how many other “37-ers” there are in the game
Auto-deposit. Now there could be a thing.
I’m also stuck on that last one. You’ve done better than I have. I’ve made it to the top of the jumping puzzle with a bit of “cheating” from a mesmer but I’ve never reached the goggles. I had a few goes then shelved it and went in search of easier mastery points. Jumping puzzles and me are not very compatible, and that one is a crazy-difficult one.
They should make maths easieryou know. Learning to sum is more than enough for anyone and my head hurts when trying to multiply. Don’t tell me about calculus, please, that’s hardcore content that makes my ears bleed.
Reading is also fine, i finished cinderella and little red riding hood (not the perrault version, as i’ve been told it has hardcore content and i am a casual reader). Poe? Come on, it’s not fun. After the first paragraph i have died many times and have to ghost walk all the way to my corpse. Nerf poe, give me pages full with pictures so i can understand what’s going on.
Music is cool. I mean, have you played simon says? That one is rad. Tachaikovsky? Nah, that one is boring except the part with the cannons firing to that tune if i ever bothered i would know it’s the national anthem of France and then some typical russian tune, but that’s for hardcore listeners only. Give me a nice ringtone and nicki minajs analconda. Thats content everyone can enjoy, specially with the volume downso i can watch tv and tweet at the same time my toon autowalks from point a to b, undisturbed in the old maps i have grown to love.
There was a time when lazy people would be ashamed of their attitude. Welcome to the century where the standards conform to the slowest and, if not, they are brought down.
Maybe a bit ranty…
Remember that half the people you meet are below average and most successful business have to cater for the masses. That’s why you don’t see much calculus on prime time TV.
If you sell an expansion that only attracts a subset of players and if that expansion only pleases a subset of that subset then… aw, you do the math. It’s only counting.
I think it’s inevitable that HoT will get nerfed to boost its popularity and no amount of forum posts telling folk to get better or learn to play will change that.
I’m also not interested in esports but, esports are a big thing and anet are entitled to dip their toe into the water. Maybe it will turn out to be a waste of time and money. Maybe it will be the saviour of the game and go on to support a lifetime of GW development across all game modes.
From a business viewpoint I think it is something they have to try. Even if it is not a success it may well pave the way for a successful sequel or spin-off game.
Either way, it’s really not our call to make.
It’s advertising – it’s not meant to be realistic.
That face cream will not make you look younger, that car will not make you cool and you will not win the lottery. Soz.
With the introduction of gliding I am expecting days/weeks of fixes for bit of scenery we can get stuck on/in/under.
It’s happening to all of us I think. This might be a good time to step away from the PC and go and take a quick census of your wives, husbands, lovers, kids, brothers, sisters, parents and any other co-habitees. Maybe make them a coffee and ask them what day it is. Oh, and feed the cats. They are probably hungry.
Or I suppose we could just play on the forum.
Or you could just, you know, not click on “compact” if you don’t want it to compact. If you click it by accident then take your medicine and do better next time.
Or you could learn to be less precious about the inventory organisation. How much stuff do you need to permanently lug around anyway? Stick one invisible bag at the bottom and put your keys and salvage stuff in it.
I’d actually like the compact button to do more. I’d like it to sort too and I would not be too fussed about the sort order as long as it was consistent.
A few times recently I’ve had it trigger after I tried and failed to join two parties in a row – Fractal parties that fill quickly. You click just as the button is removed but it still counts! I get that they want to discourage rapid party hopping but…
They need to nerf more of it if they want those maps to become, you know, popular.
The imminent arrival of gliding in core maps did make me pull out my finger and go into HoT to unlock gliding but I can’t say I enjoyed the experience. It felt more like playing Metal Gear Solid than Guild Wars, sneaking around hoping most of the mobs didn’t notice me. I died and died and died again but I’ve got gliding now so the rest of HoT can return to its slumbers in the box of unfun. Life’s too short to spend game time on stuff I don’t enjoy.
Really looking forward to gliding in the maps I do like though…
Do you think will ever see such maps and is there a place for such maps in gw2 ?
No and no no no no no no no.
I have to say that in this game the level of trolling is way lower than in any other online game I have played. But there are always going to be some folk who behave like that. Just report them and move on.
So, triggered by a recent forum post, I’ve been saving up my loot bags, sacks, pouches, strongboxes, Mawdrey rewards etc with a view to opening some of them on a yet-to-exist level 53-ish toon. The problem is I am a bit confused abut which to open on a level 80 and which on a level 53 for best gains. I currently have 31 different types of loot container! (How can there be so many different things????)
Is there a simple rule of thumb or a guide somewhere?
Failing that, just tell me about the larger quantity stuff like Silverwastes pouches and Mawdrey rewards.
And the prize for overly dramatic thread title goes to…
Community is a word that means different things to different people.
They had separate PVP and PVE versions of some skills in GW1. I thought it worked well but I know the devs were not keen on making it more widespread. More work and more stuff to keep track of I guess.
I think it undesirable for ANet to foster a culture where players expect a refund for anything and everything. These games have to move and change and inevitably there will be some stuff that becomes obsolete or just less useful. I don’t get a refund on my car when the new model comes out with a few more gadgets fitted.
Refunds for game items should be very, very rare imho.
[Suggestion] Focus on Solo-play Experience

The whole game is built on solo play with casual grouping. That’s why it is so popular, just like GW1 was.
A game that requires lots of waiting around to group for normal stuff is a short-lived game.

When a 9 foot tall dragon-slaying epic hero gets knocked on his backside by a 3 foot tall bloke dressed as a mushroom you’ve got to question the thought process that went into HoT design.
But the facts don’t add up, regardless of what devs said on that thread.
Ask yourself why someone would pay a very large listing fee to list “useless” items on the TP at a price way above the street price. Might be an error. Might be optimism. Might be something else.
Then ask yourself why an evil gold seller would turn up and pay such a huge price above market rates for “useless” items. I can only think of one reason but there may be others.
I just don’t think it is as clear cut as it first seemed.
One thing I do agree with, however, is that devs should not be discussing this stuff on public forums.
I can’t help but think that we have not got the whole story here.
It’s already available in the UK at a significant discount so just keep an eye on the price wherever you are and buy it when the price makes you smile.
Definitely Silverwastes for those. Chest farm is not the most interesting thing in the world but it does drown you in those fragments (as well as other lootz).
Actually, I think games such as this are built on providing quite easy open world stuff. Even in HoT it should be possible to easily get around the map without dying, even for players who are only moderately equipped. I’m not talking about being able to slaughter mobs solo. I’m talking about a solo player being able to just get around the map, either by skirting around the harder mobs or waypointing. The low number of way points and the claustrophobic map makes this difficult and the mobs all have slow/cripple/knockdown/whatever which makes it hard to just rush past them. It’s quite limiting and makes just getting around a bit tedious. Tedious is bad.
I keep hearing these chipmunk voices behind me complaining about something or other but whenever I turn around there doesn’t seem to be anyone there.
What my toon REALLY needs is a huge golf umbrella skin for his staff. And maybe a 6 foot diameter sombrero.
Aw man. Imagine that annoying Asura voice right behind you all the time. And I bet the little bugger will sit in that part of your back that you just can’t quite reach.
I’m not dealing with a Skritt. He’ll probably charge me for taking the stuff away. And the stuff stuff stuff.
Just spare a thought for the ANet customer support staff today. Imagine the mountain of player complains/requests/demands that they have to deal with, some reasonable, some not so reasonable.
I can’t help think that ANet made a rod for their own back the day they decided that refunds could (sometimes) be a thing.
Judging by the spike in gold → gem price, those slots are selling like hotcakes.
Price is not too far out for the QoL improvement. I’ll probably buy one and a copper-fed salvager to go in it. Shame the slots will not work too well with permanent harvesting tools.
And for those with deep pockets: One slot @ 700 gems plus a permanent bank access thing @ 3000 gems gives you a whole bank’s-worth of instant shared slots. They should do a diamond studded one for 10 times the price.
I think that would drive me proper nuts. I’d be like a dog running away from my own tail.
Does the owner of the weapon hear the sounds too?
And as Wintersday ends I’d just like to say that I really enjoyed it. It was my first one in GW2 and, for me, no bad points really.
A decent mix of quick and daft events and dailies, another JP to be hopeless at, a bell-ringing thing that I finally got the hang of and spent too much time on and I made some decent coin selling the stuff out of the presents.
One particular thing that warmed the very kittenles of my heart was the casual player cooperation on the snowballing daily. There was always someone hanging around willing to be the target for the daily and, in turn, I made sure to do the same for others. It’s a small thing but I love it when those little unscripted trends emerge and benefit everyone.
So it’s all good and, no, this is not one of those forum posts that starts nice and has a sting in the tail. I really did enjoy the event.
Edit: Comedy kitten filter. Replace “kittenles” with a quintessentially British mollusc that rhymes with Bockles.

Gliding will be fun right up to the point where they start arming mobs with surface-to-air missiles to help “guide” us away from game breaking areas.
Beep… beep… beep… missile lock detected… beep… beep… beep… missile lock detected… beep…
I think a “tip of the day” thing on the loading screen would work. Mostly they would be stating what you already know but occasionally they would give you a “never knew that” moment.
