I think the excessive taxiing on HoT maps is probably partially responsible for screwing up the megaserver thing. It’s trying to put players in certain maps based upon a set of rules and the players are using the lfg en-mass to hop to a different one. That would explain why the megaserver seems so much worse in HoT maps compared with other maps. Organising random human players is like herding cats.
Sounds to me like you went AFK in a dangerous place. There is a lesson there for you. ;p
No… he went afk briefly in a safe place and some trolly kitten pulled a mob on him…
Well, clearly it wasn’t a safe place. Unless you were there you have no way to know whether “that guy” was griefing or was running away from a mob. And if you were there, you must have been that guy. These are dangerous times, my friend. Be careful out there.
Sounds to me like you went AFK in a dangerous place. There is a lesson there for you. ;p
I’d make open world HoT a bit easier.
I think you should all stop swearing.
As is, standalone single player games are doing just fine. Look at Witcher 3, Fallout 4, etc.
Yes, doing fine today but the days of big-budget standalone single player games are ending. The genre will become niche and I doubt Bethesda would even consider starting development of Fallout 4 in that form today. The gaming companies will follow the money and e-sports is one thread of that.
I can understand the general dislike of e-sports in GW but I don’t think it is necessarily accurate to say that it is stealing development time from the other aspects of the game. Most of the money and resources being invested in e-sports will be “new” money – an investment in an enterprise that they hope will give good returns in the future.
Off topic: I loved the gameplay of Fallout 3 but after a while that unrelentingly bleak landscape just got to me. I’ve made a firm resolution to not retire to a grim post-apocalyptic desert.
Yes. Me.
That stuff is on The Internet and as such needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. That same site was quoted numerous times in the Neverwinter forums as “evidence” of how rubbish the company was, or had become. You didn’t have to be a genius to spot the bogus entries that were made by players rather than (ex-)employees.
Think about what would motivate someone to post a review of their (ex-)employer on a website and about the category of person who would do so.
I’m not saying it is all sweetness and light at ANet. I am saying that there is no way a review site like that is ever going to give a balanced view of a company.
(Hands up anyone who thinks that this GW forum gives a true representation of player sentiment as a whole…)
E-sport is not my thing but I have no problem with ANet exploring that stuff. It broadens the appeal and makes more people aware of GW. Almost all gaming companies are experimenting with e-sports, trying to figure out what works and what does not. The real e-sport success will come with the next generation of games. Gaming companies that are not experimenting with it now will probably not be around in a few years.
I’ve said this before but many players take pleasure in GW being a fairly easy game. In fact, the chilled-out, friendly vibe is what attracted many to the game in the first place. You can run across most of the open world maps without having to fight if you choose.
So it’s hardly surprising that stress levels rise when the difficulty level ramps up. And with stress comes salty players, abusive chat, blame, frustration, name-calling etc. It’s a shame really.
Haha! I’m loving Icon Wars. “Hurts my eyes”, rofl.
There are much bigger and better things to agonise over.
It concerns me, to an extent, that these games are virtually bringing up people’s children.
What kind of adults are they going to turn into?
Oh, that’s right, we know, because it’s already happened, lol.
The good news is that these people are easy to spot in RL.
You’ll see them in a crossed-arm sulk outside a shop because they can’t buy what they want NOW for half the ticket price.
You’ll also see some of them sporting bruises where they learned that some behaviour and/or comments are not acceptable in RL.
Adding a slider to allow us to set our own prefs would be perfect but unfortunately I think that is way more work than just replacing an existing animation with a different one. And I think that there is more “visual noise reduction” to come yet.
So. Daft question. Are we 100% sure he is the real Colin?
Underwater combat sucks in every game and every movie. Always.
Swimming underwater: good.
Fighting underwater: bad

I’m thinking you may want to contribute to the somewhat mammoth merged thread on the subject:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Visual-nerfs-Merged/first
At least read what Colin says before venting. He says it is not being driven by esports.
Anyone who thinks that this change is like a slap in the face has never been slapped in the face. They are just correcting an oversight to make it more consistent with the other, similar, chests.
So the graphics changes are here to stay, I guess.
It is a bit strange that there are more official posts on Reddit than here. Has anyone tried asking Colin on Reddit why that is?
Yep, you are kinda inviting everyone to grind their own particular brand of axe here.
And I’m no exception so I’ll go for:
Make open world HoT maps more survivable and more fun for normal players.
and:
Mounts please!
15th. About this time – after the patch.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

In Canada they have priced it at the same level as the US ($50) and the UK (£35) and I assume it’s the same for all the other countries they sell to. You can blame ANet for many things but currency exchange rates is not one of them.
Besides, the OP does not sound like he wants to buy the expansion at any price. /shrug
And yet another thread is turning into one of those mega threads like dungeon feedback or SAB. Lots of people complaining and not a single response from Arenanet.
I think that’s probably because we are asking for the changes to be undone or for there to be some setting or slider for the effect whereas the devs are probably planning to nerf more of the visuals to advance their campaign to de-clutter combat. If that is true then there is not much they can contribute to the thread.
Please can both of you folks take the petty arguments to PM or, even better, give it a rest as you are derailing a thread that is discussing a serious issue. And it is clear that neither of you is going to “win” the argument.
On topic:
ANet need to give some proper though to helping players block stalking behaviour. It should be fairly easy to extend the range of things that “block” does to prevent the blocked person from grouping up with you and seeing your location etc. If you block someone the only time you should see them is if they stand in front of you and jump up and down.
Don’t restrict it to just certain items. Make it so that players cannot place/drop anything within the “interaction zone” of anything else. It’s not a big deal to place that banner/boost/whatever a couple of more paces away.
Although I did find the guy who kept dropping the aviator memory box on Silverwaste chests quite funny. Even though you could not see other players doing the plane thing you could still enjoy the chat meltdown. Special mention to the chap who was attempting to duplicate the plane sounds in chat: “Brrrrrrrr”, “Neeee-ooooowwwww”.
But it does highlight that you also need to prevent placement where a chest might be about to spawn, which might be a bit trickier to code.
Don’t like ‘em? Then don’t do ‘em. Simples.
I’ve never been in a dungeon, a fractal or a raid, and my time in HoT was very short-lived but I’m enjoying the rest of the game just fine.
You don’t need those rewards to enjoy yourself. You do, um, play for enjoyment, don’t you?
The three wurms, individually and collectively are still on my TODO list, especially now that they are worth mastery points. I’ve had a couple of PUG attempts, both of which started with “we haven’t got enough people so let’s just do one head” then degenerated into an argument about which head. Most folks eventually focussed on one head but the fail was so utterly spectacular it felt like it should have qualified for an achievement in itself. So, yeah, a tough one for PUGs.
Do you know for sure that an Aus server would solve the problem? The problem could easily be with the ISPs and/or the comms infrastructure within Aus in which case a closer server might not help.
Yeah, it shouldn’t be too hard to add another category or two. Just splitting off HoT would solve most of the problems.
It’s not amazingly useful but it is another step en-route to the really-quite-useful autoloot ability and, as stated above, they kinda come for free.
The SW chest farm is still a thing and it’s still fairly easy to find a map doing it UK evening time (lfg tool, server time 8pm onwards).
There are definitely fewer people doing it but I assume that’s because some of them are now playing in the HoT maps. For a while I was sure we were seeing fewer chests but recently I’ve had a few runs where there were loads of them. It’s still a worthwhile earner if you can cope with the somewhat mindless nature of it.
Can the developpers please stop ignoring us?

They are not ignoring us. They are reading every word. But it’s not a democracy, and nor should it be.
Not very fair to be raging against players who are doing the event because they need it.
If your friend sells you gold, he is a gold seller. /shrug
There is quite a difference between not making more dungeons and deciding to remove the existing ones. There is not much to be gained by removing content but, if they do so, please can I have the mastery point I would have got if I’d done the dungeons. ;p
Please disable all other people in my map. Tks.
In a moment, as if it had noticed me looking at it, it disappeared.
Well of course it disappeared. It knows the rules and it knows the consequences of getting caught. I imagine it won’t be happy for you to be announcing the sighting to the world either. #cutcandycornabitofslack
I think it is very difficult to solve.
The Megaserver is trying to merge maps to keep populations up but cannot know whet each player wants to do in the map (farm/event/raid etc).
At the same time the players are using the lfg tool to taxi/hop between maps.
It’s no wonder it does not work so well.
And merging maps and keeping event progression is tricky.
There have not really been many pay-to-win arguments at all. There has been plenty of, um, “discussion” about the difficulty level, the pricing and the general shift in game direction. But I fear the two sides of that discussion are irreconcilable.
Complaining about free stuff. Nice.
Yea Im “complaining” that I would rather spend money. Does that really bother you so much?
Haha! You’re right. I’ll make sure I charge you for your Xmas present this year.
And don’t think that air you are breathing is free either.
My strategy for surviving in HoT is to wait until they nerf it.
It’s not a strategy that suits everyone…
Complaining about free stuff. Nice.
Well it is evening in EU, so it is a fair question
Do you even have “Black Friday” in EU?
Amazon and Asda (aka Walmart) are credited (blamed?) with introducing it to the UK a couple of years ago. Last year some of the UK supermarkets hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Scuffles and arrests at checkouts, TV’s falling on people’s heads, an old lady pushed to the ground in a dispute over a cheap TV. So this year the big players have played it down a little and tried to spread it out and direct some of it online. Shame really. That’s the most entertaining the news has ever been…
So there is no Black Friday this year ? O.O
I think it’s a bit early to conclude that just yet – international time zones and all that. Give it a few more hours.
Meh, My 2 man guild in GW1 had a fully upgraded Guild hall. Why does a GH need so much grind when people just want to have their own place to hang out.
What exactly did a full GW1 guild hall provide that a near empty GW2 guid hall doesn’t?
Pretty much everything, merchants, suppliers, banking.
I have an intermittent fault on my connection which means that every week or two I get a day or so of 0.5 Mbps. You can still play PVE at that speed and can even do some of the jumping stuff. Obviously, it’s not ideal and there are probably some things you cannot do but you can mostly get away with it. Disconnections and lag spikes would be much more disruptive than the actual connection speed.
I’d just like to say:
“…And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.”
One day. Maybe one day…
I’d love to know how many HoT owners have not yet got gliding, because I think it might be quite a few.
And because we are all, actually, proper lovely people.
I forgot the shovels now have another use. Just get some guildies in there doing the events and you should reach your 50 fairly quickly. When one map is done use the lfg to switch to another.
