It doesn't make any sense. It just doesn't.

In the same way that many players don’t do dungeons or fractals, I’m pretty sure many players won’t do raids.
That whole style of gameplay just feels so outdated these days. Gamers that used to be big on doing difficult PVE dungeons/raids seem to be moving on to playing dedicated MOBA style games. You get the same team dynamics/tactics challenge but a more interesting and less predictable enemy.
MMORPG raids are a long way from dead but it does seem that they are fading a little.
PVP always seems to bring out the worst in people in any game. It’s one of the reasons I never PVP.
This is not a perfect solution and I agree that there should be more support for micro guilds but this will get you enough favor to claim your guild hall, with not much effort and without needing to be an uber-leet player:
Go to your guild missions tab and set the options to PVE.
Each week you will get offered an easy, medium and hard PVE guild mission. The easy one will often be a bounty hunt in open world and because it is open world there will be other guilds seeking the same bounty on the same map at the same time. So you can locate the target and tag along until someone aggros it, then get a few hits in and you will get the credit and 300 favor – more than enough for the guild hall. It really does only take a few minutes. Not sure what the other easy PVE guild missions will be but you at least have a simple way to earn small amounts of favor with not much effort.
Claiming the guild hall itself will require the help of a few non-guildies but it seems that there are some folk ready to help. Once you have the hall then it gets very tough to earn the upgrades as the amount of favor and materials required can be eye-watering for a micro guild.
Someone on here said that 9 is the optimum as the mobs sizes step up at 10.
Someone put a Black Lion merchant express on top of the Itzel vendor in VB’s entrance yesterday. This was actually helpful to me since I didn’t have to click a dialogue menu to get to the selling junk window, but had I wanted to buy from the Itzel it could have been annoying. Not impossible to counter, given the ability to click on the Itzel and then hit F, yet still an oddly asocial thing for the vendor placer to do.
I think that example is probably just lack of thought rather than deliberate trolling. He’ll have finished with the vendor then just done the “next thing” without moving.
+1 for being able to store the intermediate crafting stuff (I overdid it with the dowels and ended up selling them…)
Crafting storage can be already expanded multiple times with gems. I think the max is 1500 per item. If you have more than that then…. SELL some of it you crazy obsessive hoarding fool!
Yeah, definitely about convenience rather than money saving.
The best quality vendor tools are 4 copper per “use”.
The 1000 gem “infinite” tools are about 200 gold at current exchange prices.
So buy them for pleasure, convenience and/or vanity rather than for any financial reason.
The comparison is only fair if you make it at the “end” of HoT’s lifecycle rather that at the start.
I’m expecting loads of new content to be added into HoT over the coming months/years. A living story or two, more gear, more raids, moar lootz etc.
Compare core GW2 with how it was when it started. Today HoT does not seem to offer much (especially to me personally) but it will grow and develop.
From a programming viewpoint it’s probably easiest to just prevent anything being placed in the “action zone” of anything else, regardless of what they are. I don’t think that would cause any great inconvenience to players.
I suppose they could remove the mentor tag and replace it with a bigger, uglier tag that can only be seen by players who think that other players should not have tags. ;p
TBH, they could remove commander tags completely from PvE. No-one ever truly commands the zerg in PvE so maybe those tags should be WvW only where commanding is a real thing?
I wasn’t banned, but I became extremely distressed when reading this thread. Can I have that nice little reward also for forum pain and suffering?
I was not affected by the bug, I did not have my account disabled and I missed the opportunity to become distressed by this forum thread.
However, reading about it now makes me regret not having been involved somehow and also feel some pain on behalf of poor secondary sufferers like “Just a flesh wound” so I was wondering if I could have some gems to compensate for my tertiary discomfort.
In return, I promise to publicly declare that “ArenaNet Am Da Best” at least once per day for at least one day. Thank you.
You are not alone matey. To me it feels like the jungle equivalent of Kaineng City from GW1. A frustrating series of narrow walkways where you can see your objective but not get to it. Except that HoT has the added excitement of mobs that are hard to avoid, that hit you like an express train and then slow you down and tickle you to death. My most common skill rotation is heal-dodge-plunge to messy death. I don’t remember seeing that one on any of the GW build sites.
The downloadable windows authenticator app is very quick and painless. It doesn’t even need installing. Recommended.
Speaking on behalf of the human race, arguably the most intelligent and adaptable creatures on the planet, I think you’ll find most players can still manage to use the maps and function in the game regardless of the presence of a few small, vaguely rectangular blobs on the map or, indeed, above a toon’s head. Some of the players are even capable of following the tag they want and ignoring all the others.
I’ve never seen so much drama about such a small thing. “Cluttered with tags”? Really? How many tags were there? Did you need more than one hand to count them? Did it stop you from using the map? Save the complaints for the important stuff….
Can i get some support on this idea???
Nope. Well, not from me anyway.
You can start a new account with HoT and Core unlocked and keep your old account as a separate login.
You can give your existing account to your friend and start again from scratch with HoT and core (this might infringe the ToS…)
But you can’t add HoT to your existing account and give away the core part of the HoT purchase. It’s not really a separate part any longer. Think of it as buying one of those “game of the year” editions of games where they bundle core and a couple of expansions in one pack, usually at a similar price to the original game.
Plenty of folks don’t like it but that is just how it is and I can’t see it changing any time soon.
I think we’d all like to know how many players have bought HoT and how many of those are actively playing the new maps. But I don’t think anyone official is going to tell us those numbers…
Only playing an hour or two per day might not be very compatible with raids. It will take a chunk of time just to get a team of that size assembled and organised.
I disagree, because that prompt is the thing that reminds me I should be using a different salvage kit for rare and above so it’s a good thing.
Windows Scheduler – every night it turns on my PC, runs the update and shuts down again.
Fix mentor tags? But they ain’t broke m8.
I was not bothered either way when I got mine but it has actually been surprisingly useful. Example: today I was doing a bit of map completion on my own. I stublmed upon a Champ boss just sitting there. I turned on the tag, said “champ here”. A dozen players turned up, we killed the boss, got the loot and then I turned off the tag. I didn’t mentor anyone. I didn’t clash with comm tag. Everyone benefited.
Anyone that complains about mentor tags is simply saying “Boo hoo I bought my way to an important tag and now these nobodies get one for free”.
And BTW, I’ve followed some shockingly bad commanders in Silverwastes. Just sayin’.
I don’t regret it but I’m not currently playing on the HoT maps.
I’m waiting but for a different reason. I’m waiting for it to be made a little bit easier (inevitable imo).
In the meantime I have plenty of other stuff to do.
Suggestion for Anet involving Mentor tags

i’m sure this could of been said in a shorter way
Yeah. You could just have been honest and said that you hate it that folks get mentor tags for free and that you think those tags should be removed or made unusable because it’s so unfair or something. That would have been shorter. ;p

Buried deep beneath the blatant trolling there is a very valid point:
Standing around waiting for other players is not much fun.

It definitely needs a bit of tweaking. I’ve had credit for events that I have just run past and been denied credit for events that I have fully participated in.
I sometimes get it on champ fights too. During the fight I am continuously giving and taking damage right next to the enemy. After the fight I see the chest spawn and see others opening it but for me there open/loot action on it.
I think this only started to happen after the inactive stuff was introduced. I usually don’t get a “you were inactive” message so I guess it has not even labelled me as having started the event.
Seem odd to announce it on Reddit first.
I fully support the idea.
Also the thought of a keyring with 90+ prybars hanging from it amuses me.
Ha ha! Presumably you are happy with the idea of running around carrying a small backback that contains thousands of kgs of weapons, armour, equipment, lumber, rocks, plants, sand, coins and other stuff…

I’ll check later. My Tyria line maxed out long before I got that first HoT mission done. I just assumed the surplus was lost and, yes, I was a bit miffed about it.
No. No, it’s not grindier.
(Not even if grindier was a real word).

Or use the PC authenticator prog. Worked for me.
Just keep sending in the bug reports and include as much info as you can about where, when and what you were doing or had just done.
Eventually someone will see a pattern in the reports and maybe figure out the cause.
Yes please yes please yes please.
.. And The Grand Architect browsed the game forums, shook his head and said “I can’t believe the players are complaining about too much loot now. WHAT THE HECK DO THEY WANT FROM ME????”…
Tired of loot? That’s just crazy talk. Loot is Life.
Every double-click might bring that thing you have always dreamed of, or something you can sell for more gold than you have ever owned, or, oh wait, it’s another green.
Ah yes! But here is another bag. Just think what it might contain…
Please no. I’m inept enough at jumping on to stationary platforms. Moving platforms would provide me with a whole new level of opportunities to fail.
Guild hall costs are insane for small guilds
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The answer is kinda obvious.
The “basic” guild upgrades should be quite cheap and quick to achieve, regardless of the guild size.
This basic level of upgrades would give back most of the upgrades that were possible in the previous guild system.
Then you add higher tiers of upgrades which get progressively more expensive but which only give very small improvements or QoL things. Maybe more banner/mats storage or a higher limit on how much stuff can be crafted each week or some cosmetic upgrades. Stuff that you could live without but that might be nice to have.
The aim would be that pretty much any guild of any size can achieve the basic level and get a “mostly functioning” set of guild facilities.
The bigger guilds will still want to max everything out partially for those small improvements but mostly for the bragging rights. “Come join us. We have a maxed guild hall with shiny decorations of leetness!”
I think we have not enough evidence to decide either way. We are just the baying mob.
But I do think that if someone is found cheating they need to lose all their accounts. They have to take a hard line on this stuff to send the message to anyone else who might be considering crossing the line.
I was a bit surprised the only one I had was single use.
And it’s not just this forum. So many other forums have rubbish searches. I often use the Google “site:” thing on them too.
Google’s superhero power is making sense of my search regardless of the garbage I tryped .
And there is a mastery point for the Lion’s Arch Exterminator achievement. Part of that requires you to do stuff part way into a JP.
Accurate jumping is not my favourite thing in any game but I find it that bit harder in GW because of a combination of sluggish controls and daft camera behaviour. I’ve fallen several times whilst trying to shuffle along a bit just so the camera will show me enough for the next jump.
I suspect the lack of drops is an oversight and will get corrected sooner rather than later. Suggest you wait to see what is in the next couple of updates.
The only time I’ve seen more than one or two tags on a map was when someone demanded in map chat that they turn off the “NOOB TAG”.
That resulted in quite a few extra tags being turned on for a short while. I probably found that funnier than the complainant.
The tags are fine as they are.
Scroll up. Read sticky.
It’s a workaround rather than a solution but it does work.
I can’t think of anything worse than spending hours and hours doing the the same thing over and over. BUT, I have absolutely no problem with others choosing to spend their time doing so and I certainly don’t consider it an exploit.
Sometimes folks can be too quick to yell “exploit”. In PvE you are not in competition with anyone. Why care about what stuff others have achieved or how they achieved it? It only starts to matter if it affects the game economy or prevents other players from doing something in-game.
Has anyone ever played any game of this type where the player base didn’t home in on the best farming spots and then find ways to speed them up as much as possible? And where those spots then didn’t get nerfed, either by reducing the rewards or by beefing up the mobs (or by changing the terrain a little – whadya mean I can’t push them off the cliff now?)
It’s just how it is. There is always another farming spot to be had. People are people.
Aw man, are we still on this?
Lots of folks got free tags.
Some will use them for good.
Some will use them for evil.
Some don’t know how to turn them on and off.
Some have not even realised that they got them.
If a few surplus tags on a map totally destroys your open world PvE gameplay then… <insert your own words here>.
We could, you know, just move on.
