Maybe there should be some official bots for sale in the gem shop. We’d probably pay a fortune for something that would automate some of the daily “housekeeping” tasks, even if the payback period was half a lifetime. ;p

I was just idly thinking that absolutely the best punishment for someone botting is to ban their siblings/spouse/partner too. Imagine the grief that they get every minute of every day from those innocent family members…

If they gave a free copy of GW1 with every purchase of GW2 then a significant chunk of new purchasers would initially spend their time playing the “old” game because it seems right to play stuff “in sequence”. It would be an odd business decision to be encouraging new GW2 players to not play the new game.

Having said that, I am also amongst those who are surprised that the street price for GW1 is still so high. If they were to bundle all the releases into one mega pack at a budget price they could probably squeeze a bit more revenue from it and boost the player numbers but that still risks competing with their sequel. These games are so time consuming that most folk cannot play more than one concurrently.

It would be even better if learning a recipe was account-wide. My main has learned several high-end cooking recipes that he cannot use but I have an alt with max cooking. That’s how I learned that they are not account-wide!

Mules, mostly weighed down with account bound asc mats and stuff I will almost certainly never use.

F2P accounts can only sell about a dozen things on the tp, all very low value. You can’t sell any of the wintersday stuff at all. I guess you could bot on an F2P account until it amasses a vast amount of stuff and then pay real money to convert to full game in order to get at the stuff but I doubt that is happening very much.

Of course an F2P account could be used to practice and perfect a bot before using it with full accounts. Having played other MMORPGs I have to say that GW is virtually bot free in comparison.

Well it would be a crazy decision to cut it off right before next Wintersday but…

So you can keep drinking throughout the year assuming you can find the booze. There will be a bunch of sellers who will hold on to their stash until they can get a better price and there will also be a trickle of new presents from home instance nodes which may go some way to keep the price down, depending upon demand.

I’m trying to match the drinking schedule in real life but tbh I’m struggling to keep up and it’s not like I lack experience.

I’m also struggling to match the achievement for brutally murdering 500 centaurs in RL. There just don’t seem to be that many around these parts.

I was trying to collect the bits for the present tree in my personal instance and I was trying to do the JP in Iron Marches for like 3 hours. The worse was the strobes when effects get applied on you, mid jump. Not looking forward to the remaining 5 items to get, nearly all behind JPs.

If you are patient you don’t need to do the JPs. I got all but one of the Grawk items from Grubby Packages i had saved up from normal open world stuff over the last few months. I’m not sure where they came from but I have not done most of the JPs that are listed in the wiki and dulfy guides. The green bauble was the only one I had to JP for and it was part way along the route so I did not have to succeed at the JP.

So as long as you have opened the collection during Wintersday you can spend as long as you like over the collection.

Next you’ll be brutally kicking the daylights out of some poor skritts for wanting to be near a festive dolyak.

Folks, I understand the pain and I want you all to know that I am working really hard to bring the TP prices down by earning and selling as much alcohol as I can. I love you all and the fact that I am earning loads of easy gold is totally not my main motivation. /cough cough

I’m astonishingly bad at the static ones so the concept of jumping accurately at the correct time to hit flickering/moving/temporary platforms is utterly beyond me.

Toypocalypse much more my thing. Choose the events you like and have fun.

Yesterday I did get a drop that was basically a bag of snowballs so I wondered if you need to take one of them out into Tyria and use it on the skritt that pop out of the giant presents. I don’t especially need that daily so I’ve just “unticked” it. /shrug.

Logged on this evening and it has NOT lost my settings. This morning it had lost them.
Fixed? Quirky? Reset daily? No idea…

Haven’t seen the movie but I’m pretty sure EVIL will mostly be winning but GOOD will come through at the end, leaving a tantalising loose end to be continued.

I’m guessing it’s connected to the commander key binds they added in the last patch. Those would need changes to the store/recall settings stuff. Software is complicated. Software that undergoes continuous changes is complicated squared. There is never enough time to test everything. Bugs happen. They get fixed.

It would be harsh to ban you but it would be worthwhile building up a portfolio of “evidence” to support any CS appeal you may need to make. Just a record/screenshot of what you give and to whom and why and I’m pretty sure they will reinstate you. Maybe even email CS in advance to let them know.

I made it 34.22 years, assuming an average of 0.8 drinks per day and an average year length of 365.25 days and ignoring missed days due to holidays, illness and the fact that PCs will not exist in 34 years time.

“No presents for peasants” should be a motto somewhere.

I haven’t spent anywhere near a couple of hours in the JP but extrapolating the time I have spent on it I’m pretty sure my income would be approximately 0.0 gold per hour. I might earn slightly more if they fixed the platforms permanently in place but even that is not a certainty. It was good fun trying it though, and I probably made more successful jumps than I did on the Halloween one, it’s just a shame that the successful jumps were not a bit more, um, consecutive.

Now Toypocalypse. That’s my kinda thing. Love the build and upgrade bit. I’m proper enjoying the festival. It’s mostly daft fun with some easy ways to make a bit of gold.

oh please, this is such an overused excuse and clearly a copy/paste one too, these bugs would have been spotted in 5 seconds if they took the effort to test it first.

So, just out of interest, would you be happy for them to do a full regression test on the software after they fix this minor bug then release it sometime in Jan/Feb or would you prefer them to do a minimal amount of testing and get the fix out there in the next few days?

Because that’s the hard choice all software teams face every time they make a change or a bug fix, with customers. management and marketing all breathing down their necks.

@Grimmy – it’s not just the 64 bit client. I have the same with the 32 bit too. Someone in chat said you could workaround it by logging off rather than just exiting to desktop but I could not find any combination that saved the setting.

No definitive answer but not much in it as the prices are fluctuating either side of the line.
Last night presents were selling for ~9s. A present usually contains some booze which was selling for ~7s plus other bits.
I open them, just in case there is a winning lottery ticket in there.

Most of the community is fine. Actually, compared with other games most of this community is more than fine. It’s just that you tend to notice the bad apples, in the same way that you only notice the bad car drivers.

In reality, most people that manage the title in the festival will do it with a combination of all the methods. The presents drop like confetti from everything, there are free ones, there are ones you can buy with Karma, and you can buy presents or booze directly off the TP.

Yes, it will take a certain amount of dedication and gold but it’s definitely do-able in the three or so weeks we have and, you know, some things in the game are not meant to come easy.

But whatever you do, don’t ignore that Karma guy. An easy way to turn Karma into drinks or gold.

It’s a bug. They know about it. I imagine they’ll fix it fairly quickly.

The whole GW1 series, whether you call them expansions or not, were basically more of the same. There was no huge change in difficulty level or game meta. Hence, they were popular and well-received by the bulk of the regular players. HoT seems to have been a month ’s worth of distraction for a portion of the player base and then lots of them seem to have gone back to core.

Core game is still casual-friendly but HoT is definitely not.
The mistake they made is to launch an expansion that is so dramatically different to the core game.

Yep, I got that GW1 title. People complained about_ it then too, both from a moral viewpoint and also from a “it’s too hard” viewpoint. In the meantime, a bunch of players enjoyed chasing the title and another bunch of players enjoyed having ready customers for the random booze that dropped at various times. It’s absolutely fine at 10K imo.

The moral standpoint is always amusing, given that we’re playing a game that basically involves killing anything that moves and taking stuff that does not belong to us. Right now in the game there will be a bunch of folk who are offended by alcohol but who are perfectly happy to repeatedly kick the poor little guys who are trying to steal the Dolyak presents.

Woo Hoo!

Bit of an odd one. Since the latest patch I’ve noticed that it now takes me two attempts to ALT-TAB out of the game. It never works on the first attempt and always works on the second one. Previously it has always just worked. Also, I’m in the bad habit of running round everywhere constantly holding down the left CTRL and ALT keys to show various labels. I’m fine with this but yesterday I noticed that I can no longer cast spells whilst holding down those keys. It’s not a biggie but it did cost me an embarrassing death where I was fleeing and failed to notice that my heal had not fired off.

Has anyone else seen the same thing or is there something odd going on with my PC?

The Karma trader is your friend

Speaking as an elementalist, I think that elementalists should be able to just levitate to the top of all jumping puzzles, whilst laughing and pointing at the little people still trying to make those jumps. I imagine some of the little people will think this is unfair but, hey, we’re busy wizzies. We’ve got spells to cast and those keys are not going to press themselves.

If levitating is not available I’d settle for a really long ladder.

Yeah, OK, I admit it. I’m absolutely rubbish at judging those jumps.

As others have said, Factions wasn’t really an expansion.
It was also my least favourite of the GW1 series. I really did not like the confines of Kaineng City (I have a similar problem with HoT).
I took lots of toons through Kaineng and I can still remember the relief I felt when I finally got out to that rolling countryside. Nightfall, on the other hand, really floated my boat. Maybe Anet are like MS Windows where they follow a pattern of “good release, bad release” so we should all look forward to the next instalment.

Regardless of all that, it’s pointless making these comparisons with other expansions. HoT is what it is. Like it or lump it, no amount of complaining is going to magically double the number of maps.

So just buy the booze. From me.
Or stop complaining.

Instead of looking at it as “Boo Hoo! I’ll never get that many drinks in time” look at it as “10k drinks. Excellent! There will be loads of buyers for all the festive booze I get”.
