Maybe give ’em a few more hours before getting upset…
The maps only feel bigger because they are a pain to navigate. That is not necessarily a good thing.
Remember GW1, where you could not freely roam the maps and had to stick to a few predefined paths. Feels kinda old-fashioned now doesn’kitten
…before I have to waste months trying to get it…
That’s a really odd way to see things. The journey is the game.
Yeah. Sounds like you are done with the game. Gl and hf in your next one.
I don’t have a strong distaste for them but I agree that they look ridiculous, especially in areas where you can’t glide.
The first time I saw someone wearing them I assumed it was one of those novelty gem store items, like ear muffs and Santa hats, which may not have been the dev’s intention.
So for me it’s not a show-stopper but I would certainly prefer gliders to look like they are capable of gliding and also for them to be stowed when not in use.
Reading between the lines it sounds like staff posting on the official forums have to have their post vetted/approved/whatever even if they are posting in their own free time. Maybe it’s because of over-cautious management, or maybe something got posted in the past that was “off message”. If that is true then it is hardly surprising that they choose to post elsewhere. /shrug
As of right now, there are more mastery points in Core Tyria than we need, so none of us have to get each and every point.
Unfortunately no less than 16 (sixteen!!!!) of those points are in Living Story 2, which an increasing number of players do not have. It is gem store purchasable but not cheap. Without LS2 you pretty much need every other mastery point. The saving grace is that only players who plan on crafting legendaries need to do the legendary track, and those players must be able to generate big chunks gold so can probably afford to buy LS2.
I’ve just scraped enough gold together to buy it. Obviously you can spend RL cash, which I’m sure is part of ANet’s grand plan.
Good info. I didn’t even know these rewards existed. Are they new?
Somewhat. Since the expansion. You can see them when you look at the individual maps on the big map, except for the 2-15 level maps.
Just looked and I can’t quite believe I missed that! I think I completed the map before HoT so I just don’t hover over the map names. Having said that, I’m pretty active in some of the maps so I must have had some rewards and not noticed. Dozy Ding.

Good info. I didn’t even know these rewards existed. Are they new?
I know exactly the one you mean. I am at 97% completion for diving and that is the one I need. I failed the jumping puzzle many times then eventually cheated by getting some help from a passing mesmer. Then I found out that the diving point involves yet more jumping and also that you can’t get to it from the end of the main jumping puzzle. I may have sworn more than a little. So it remains undone for now. I can’t imagine how annoying it will be to finally get there then miss the water. Having done all of the others without cheating, it does seem that this one is a whole order of magnitude harder than the others.
And, like you, I was only doing it for that precious mastery point. I’ve got that plus two of the Triple Trouble wurm heads on my mastery points TODO list.
Isn’t this just another boast thread?
“Haha. I killed two guys in 1v2.”
Confirmed: Toxicity in Gw2 equals wasteland
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: DoctorDing.5890
Yeah, we should all try to save our toxicity for the forums rather than the game.
Toxicity increases with difficulty due to frustration. Failed/failing dungeons and raids are always a hotbed of recrimination and rage. You don’t really see that much in “normal” GW stuff, although there was someone ranting and yelling at us in Triple Trouble recently. His main opinion was that we should “DO MORE DPS”. I thought it was a valid point and I immediately started pressing the number keys a bit harder.
Can only speak for the UK but here you can still buy legit physical copies of pre-HoT GW2 from reputable retailers like Game and Amazon. It’s old stock so the typical price is about half that of HoT and the deluxe version is not much more.
By the time you have “run out” of core content HoT will probably be half the price it is today.
The only advantage I can think of for buying HoT from day 1 is if you want to level a revenant as your first toon.
Does the pass work like a HOM stone, where you can activate it from anywhere, teleport to the terrace then teleport back to where you started when you are done?

If people really are paying 1g per shovel I can see why some players might be tempted to risk selling them.
However, I cannot understand why they use the LFG tool to advertise.
And right there is the disconnect for many of the core game players.
As for taking it seriously, I struggle a bit with the whole plant thing because, you know, weedkiller.

As a side note, the shovels are not that hard to get. Just hop onto the event train in Silverwastes. They run all the time. The shovel drop rate is not huge but you’ll get a few each cycle, along with loads of other loot so it is quite lucrative. Obviously, the more guildies who go the quicker you get the shovels you need.
Just going back to the Hearts thing.
I have to say that as a new player (3 months now) I found the Heart tasks a really refreshing thing in the game so it’s a shame they are not adding new ones, especially in HoT which seems to need a bit of light relief.
Every RPG since forever has had the thing where you see an NPC with a symbol over their heads, talk to them to get a task which you complete then go talk to them again to get the reward. The hearts are a slicker version of that, doing away with the talking and with the always-cluttered quest log.
I like the events too but Hearts would be right up there on my list of things the game does well! (although I’m still not convinced of the benefits of entertaining a cow).
Maybe the game is starting to take itself too seriously.

Some scams are easier to avoid than others. Anyone looking to buy account-bound shovels in the expectation that the seller will dutifully join your guild and donate the shovels after payment is perhaps a bit too trusting.
On a related note, I’ve reported a few people this week for advertising shovels for sale in LFG.
Just wanted to echo the “stop spending gold” message. Every coin not spent is one you don’t have to earn. If you want that house/car/holiday quicker then drink less beer.
Tag a bit of casual farming onto your day. Wherever the PVE dailies take me I spend a few extra minutes harvesting wood and ore, a bit more if I’m in a level 15-25 area. Any wood except green wood is good atm, with softwood being particularly lucrative. The reason is the crazy 14g-15g that one spiritwood plank currently fetches. If you can craft one, so much the better. If not, then the players that can are buying the mats they need. Same applies to ores and the Deldrimor Steel, although at a lower price (around 8g).
The great thing about stuff like softwood is it can be farmed by low-level alts if you fancy a change and the mobs can mostly be ignored. If you want to get hardcore then efficient map routes can be found at dulfy but that gets boring very quickly.
Whatever you choose to farm, try not to think about these two things:
1. Why does the game make you hunt around for tiny saplings to harvest when there are huge kitten trees everywhere? Cut down and process one of those suckers and the global wood shortage is over.
2. Why aren’t gold ingots worth about a 1000 gold coins each. Are they made of a different type of gold or something?
Option 1: Buy the “basic” HoT from Amazon, way cheaper than the ANet store, and use the money you save to buy gems towards that extra char slot. Or keep the money you save and earn in-game gold to exchange for gems and that slot.
Option 2: Wait a month or two and then go for option 1, but with a bigger saving.
Incidentally, the “free char slot” caused loads of confusion, partly because of the bad wording of the offer and partly because folks got it confused with the extra slot that comes with the deluxe version. The free slot required you to pre-order HoT and to have registered a copy of the core game before a certain date so that offer ended on HoT launch day. That was the only nod to “veteran” players.
Never make this your main form of income IRL.
I think that there is
only a small chance of that
without more practice
Level 15-25 zones are fuller because folks are farming softwood. And if an event pops when you are farming you tend to dive in and do it, just because it’s there.
But requiring a “public” event to fail to advance a personal quest is crazy. @OP, park it for now and it will get changed eventually.
Alternatively, someone said they managed to, ahem, succeed at failing at about 3.30am UTC/GMT!
I’ve never had any such spam in this game. Quite refreshing after some of the other games.
Just report, block ’em and move on.
Yup, it’s a daft implementation of a decent idea. The idea is to stop someone trolling one or more LFG parties by joining, leaving, joining and just generally messing people about to be annoying. Unfortunately they don’t seem to have considered the scenario you describe. It sometimes happens to me in the Silverwastes when trying to join the event chain or a chest farm. I’m sure the devs are aware but it’s probably quite low priority.

And definitely ignore this forum!
I hope they are going to pay me for my image rights if they copy my toon and then gift it to me as a mini. I may have to speak to my agent about it.
I was surprised that they could not be dismissed with a click
To answer the question in the subject: No, not really much point to healing at those events. Folks dodge and self-heal and occasionally fall and get rezzed. DPS is usually the most efficient way to get the job done. Save the heals for party instances and raids.
And, speaking personally, not having to rely on healers is one of the best decisions the designers ever made.
I’m quite glad I don’t work with the OP. I hope all that guff was not just to hype the blog link.
Some don’t like HoT, Some do like HoT. We, the forum, have no way to know what the split is but we’re happy to make stuff up.

You are not the only person to feel that way but you are a little late to that particular party.

HOPE step IV Problems: Succeeding at Failing
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: DoctorDing.5890
I’m sure there are a few trolls but most of the players doing those events are probably unaware that there is any benefit for anyone to fail the event. So when someone they don’t know starts telling them to fail the event they probably think that they are being trolled. It’s against a gamer’s instinct to deliberately fail a challenge and some of those will not even be reading the chat window. I guess news of the requirement for some players to fail will become more widespread but it’s still crazy to create something like that in open world stuff. It’s always going to cause conflict.
They should spin-off raids into a new product “Guild Wars : Raids” and give it a new server and a new forum. That would improve the remaining GW2 community by an order of magnitude or two.
Thanks. I guess I’ll stick with exotikittenil something changes with either fractals or tp prices.
OT:
exotikittenil <= this one took me a while to work out…
dumb kitten filter haha
Depends on your definition of “solo player” but mostly, no, it’s not worth it for a solo player.
If you took it off me then the only thing I would really miss is the autoloot feature of the Pact Mastery.
Maybe wait for it to be on offer in a few months time.
I came here from A.N.Other game which had built-in team voice comms and it seemed that pretty much everyone still used Teamspeak. The built-in system worked fine but the main use for it seemed to be to tell everyone to switch to Teamspeak(!) so adding it to GW might not be a great use of dev time.
Verdant Brink is… Not Fun.
So I haven’t done it.
Unless you have an “active” mastery bar selected the default should be the old XP bar that just wraps round when it is full and gives us a trivial reward. Maybe a few achievement points or a point on a new “over-leveller” title track with a crazy-high max tier.
On a related note, I do miss the “scaled level” number that we used to have on the left of the XP bar.

This thread is top kek.
Moving on…
And here is a perfect example of the new breed of HoT attitude haha
…A-net is THE company that has THE LEAST amount of communication in my library of games.
That’s because you haven’t played Neverwinter. Anet are positively chatty in comparison and when they do communicate they are mostly honest. Cryptic, the Neverwinter devs, would say that they were listening to the feedback then make changes that made it worse. Complaints about low XP in new areas resulted in a reduction of XP in old areas. At times it felt like some sort of social experiment.
But I’m not bitter. XD
Is it okay to use a name like that though?
No. It is against the TOS. Just like Britney Spears.
I assumed it would be OK right now but not OK in the future if he caused a World War or something.
There is an official sticky at the top of the forum defining what is and is not acceptable use of lfg:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/LFG-tool-mis-use
Basically you are allowed to sell runs/help/jumping puzzles and anything that involves grouping up. You are not allowed to sell items/stuff.
Report anything that breaks the rules.
I think they’ve figured out that they can have a more sensible conversation on Reddit because they’ve left us whiners on here.
