Complainers are complaining on the forum.
Players are playing in the game, gradually unlocking stuff and enjoying the process.
The review was probably from a player.
I’m wondering if you are getting hit with the new stuff that decides whether you were active enough in an event. I’ve had a couple in SW where I stayed alive and engaged all the way through but got no credit. I’ve also had a couple of the bigger fights in the Halloween labyrinth where I see the boss chest at the end but cannot loot it. I’ve had other boss fights where I’ve been dead for most of it and still got the rewards. Needs a bit of tuning I think.
Is this for real?
What’s the difference between a Red commander tag or a mentor tag .
About 300g and a shedload of bitterness.
A city-sized guild hall is too big for my 1.5 person guild and those monsters are far too nasty. Please can I get a guild hut, perhaps with 2 chairs, a table and a very small trophy cabinet. And with an option to add some tacky neon lighting.
I’m prepared to pay no favour, around 30 silver and to kill up to two moderately scary small creatures, or three if the chairs are especially comfortable. Thanks.
But, seriously, yes. Give us micro-guilds a little break. It won’t hurt anyone and we need love too.
For the location under the middle of the desert you need to get to the bottom of the Skritt jumping puzzle in the Grotto. There are two ways:
1. Do the jumping puzzle.
2. Leap blindly from the top of the puzzle and try to hit tiny pool of water that you cannot see. It took me about a dozen attempts even though I was using an online guide. The guide said NPCs would rez me if I missed the water but I landed almost on top of one of them and they just ignored me.
Anyhow, when you get to the bottom alive, run west.
If you can’t get to the Grotto the entrance is at the northeast corner the map in a cave you have probably not noticed that is sometimes locked depending upon nearby events.
Of course, some players who get the mentor tag will not have done so knowingly because it’s the default mastery track for Tyria.
I did the first HoT mission and already had enough mastery XP for the first tier. One click in the shiny, new and not entirely clear mastery window and Oops! Pact commander rank 1. With a tag and everything.
If anyone needs any mentoring about how you should read stuff in the mastery UI before clicking on anything then I’m your man. Just let me turn on my tag and you can come find me…
Even if you do pay attention to the options, Pact commander mastery may well be the best choice for many players. I don’t do fractals and I am unlikely to ever craft anything legendary which just leaves Pact Commander for a few general purpose buffs. But my tag will probably stay firmly in my pocket.
Ta.
Depends what you mean by “extra low”.
I’ve seen prices ranging from £19 from Amazon UK, new and boxed, presumably 100% legit, down to under £10 from various Chinese ebayers “download code only”, presumably not very legit.
The interesting bit is in between where several lesser known but legit-looking sites are selling for the £12 to £15 range, some download only and some physical box. Apart from Amazon, these are all “buyer beware” but it surprised me that a non-HoT version is still available at all. I’m a bit tempted to risk one of those middle options.
The point is this:
1. If you build it, they will come.
2. If you make it too hard, they will get frustrated and leave. And they’ll tell their friends.
It’s a tricky tightrope to walk.
I think the mentor tags are a good addition but I’d second the request to have an option to filter/hide them in PVE (including Comm tags too)
I’d like a choice of:
- Show All
- Hide All
- Show Only The One I am Following (not sure how you’d select it…)
Some retailers are still selling boxed editions of the core game (usually the heroic edition) and at low low prices, presumably because HoT is out.
Anyone know if these are still valid? Will the code still work?
I think we’ll see the difficulty level in HoT adjusted downwards.
These games need to cater for the averagely-geared majority rather than the elitist minority because they need to make money. No money = no game.
And, like it or not, solo play is a BIG part of these games now.
I don’t think it has been stated anywhere but the assumption seems to be the Tuesday after Halloween.

I also got a fast response from CS but not the one I wanted. It’s entirely my fault but I thought that everyone who pre-purchased would get the free char slot. I’m not a qualified “veteran” so no slot for me. It didn’t help that the first reply I got from CS was a bit misleading as it said something like “your char slot will be mailed to you in-game a few days after the HoT launch” so that gave me false hope. That hope wase dashed yesterday when I chased it up! So I was a bit grumpy, even though I have no real reason to be. I’m sure that those who are entitled to them will get them in the end.
My first experience in the Tangled Labyrinth under the Silverwastes:
1. Hey, those ghostly hound things move quickly.
2. Ouch. Why did I die?
3. Hey, how come everyone is just running past me without even trying to rez me? How unfriendly.
4. Ah, at last! Here is a kindly soul to help me.
5. Oh, he is suddenly dead too.
So, I think the HoT thing is a combination of players being impatient to get through the new stuff but also a reflection that it is riskier to stop and rez someone in those areas. As the expansion settles down I think we’ll see things improve as people gain more experience of the new mobs and also as the more chilled out players reach those areas.
+1
It’s something I’d love to see too. The GW1 thing where you could “publish” your build in chat and others could inspect it, copy it and/or save it locally to disk was superb and copying builds from websites was quick and simple too.
It’s more complicated in GW2 because of the way the weapon selections change the skill bar but it should be achievable with a bit of thought.
If the whole load/save thing is too complex then just giving us a second equipment/skill bar that we could toggle would work. Restrict the toggling to “safe” areas if that makes it easier.
Given the vibrant “build swapping” community that developed in GW1 I was surprised it was not implemented in GW2 from the start.
Pretty much any tag on a player in a PVE map just means “zerg here”. The amusing thing is that the tagged player does not even need to be very skilled or knowledgeable on most maps. They just act as a magnet for players of all ability because there is safety in numbers. I’ve even seen a Silverwastes chest run led by someone who did not know most of the locations. It still worked because the players that did know the locations ran ahead. Zerg it, baby, zerg it.
However, I can have some sympathy for anyone who has shelled out for the expensive tag recently but those tags will probably retain most of their status.
I sat at a Hero point for 3 hours waiting for people to come do it yesterday.
Maybe because some of us don’t have the time to invest
Anyone else spot a slight contradiction in these two statements hehe?
3 hours? Really? I’ve told you a million times not to exaggerate…
I took a day off work to have an extra day to play the release. That bother you? Troll much?
If pointing out your ridiculous statement that you spent 3 hours waiting in game whilst complaining that you don’t have much time to invest is trolling then, yes, guilty as charged. 3 hours? Really? Did you have to press space every 10 minutes so the game did not log you out? If you are going to make this stuff up you should at least try to make it realistic. You’d have been better of going to work. ;p

Yes. I like it.
It perhaps could do with a bit more of a nod towards solo players but apart form that it is excellent.

Yeah, we need to get this thread back on topic.
@OP.
Bye then.
Can I has your stuffs?
I’ve seen someone with them but I guess they may have been hoarded from last year.
8/10.
Of course, most of the people who rate it highly are playing it rather than rating it.
Yep. I’m happy with the elites as they are.
And always remember that the population of a game forum are generally not a balanced representation of the players playing the game.
I’m 100% happy with the expansion. Please do not change it.
The tiny minority of complainers on this topic are saying the same thing.
Fixed that for ya.
Or just buy the cobs on the TP. currently about 7g for 3 (= 1 bag) and will fall throughout the event.
Guild hall needs to be claimed by a party who all have HoT. After that non-HoT-ers can go to the hall but some any of the hall features will not be available to them.
The official news article says “for nearly two weeks”:

Hilarious. Nobody would be QQing if they were actually leveling another 10 levels while they did the new pve content like in EVERY OTHER mmo. At least Anet’s way lets us keep our gear.
Nah. Some of them would be QQ’ing regardless. ;p
Here’s a tip for the complainers: if you find the most enjoyable thing about the game is complaining on the forum then you’re done with the game. Move on.

I hope so, because I am also a solo player. I’m expecting to be able to gradually gain the masteries and elites and to play the story. I’ll join in with any spontaneous stuff like events and hero points but you won’t find me doing any raid stuff or PVP any time soon. I’m really looking forward to gliding!
If you have bought the expansion then dive in and see. If not then maybe play Halloween whilst the expansion stuff beds in and we’ll have a much better idea of how solo-friendly it is in a week or two.
As for all that treatment stuff – just keep on keeping on.
You can start playing about a quarter of the way through the DL
To begin with, it is absurd that a solo player can get 3/4 of the guild stuffs by themselves.
No, it’s not. It’s absolutely fine. It’s their game too. They work for it or pay for it. It does not come for free.
. You don’t really see solo guild in other mmos.
Yes you do. For example in Neverwinter you need a minimum of 5 people to start a guild and it’s very common to pay a small fee to 4 random folk to temporarily join you so you can start a solo guild. There are regular calls for it in chat and plenty of collaborators. And the main reason for a solo guild there is the same as here – cheap storage. I’m pretty sure in GW2 we’ll see a culture emerge for solo guilds to help each other capture their guild halls. And that’s fine, isn’kitten It has no impact on other players and doesn’t harm anyone. Play the game any way you want.
Or just make the AOE hit that area. WOuld be fun watching the panic…
Your guild storage is there. Anything in the queue auto-completed. Talk to the guild bank guy in LA in the same place he was yesterday.

Surely if you die during an event you deserve to be penalised a little because, you know, death. ;p
I’m sure the inactive thing will get tweaked over the coming days/weeks and when they get it right it will discourage the afk-ers and the tag’n’run brigade. Until then, yeah, sounds a bit harsh atm.

This is like buying a brand spanking new car and then someone tells you:
“Wait, you have to learn how to drive this old crappy machine you’ve been driving for years while earning stamps for every checkpoint you drive past,
No, it’s not like buying a car at all. It’s like buying a derelict plot of land off your neighbour. It’s a blank space into which you can extend your current garden. If you want the garden, you have to create it.
Or, if you want a much more pertinent analogy, it’s a bit like buying the original GW2, or any other similar game. You get a bunch of empty character slots in which you can create a level 1 character with one rubbish weapon and one bag. When you bought the that original game did you expect to be able to insta-create lvl 80 toons with max bags, max weapons and all the skills available? AT the start, you don’t get to disintegrate the mobs in Queensdale with your Huge Blazing Sword of Doom. You get to scratch them to death them with your Insignificant Dagger of Bluntness.
And, yes, I get that if you have loads of alts that there will be some level of repetition but, you know, that what alts are!
The intent of the game designers is obvious. You are meant to fairly easily reach the first rung of the elite ladder and then spend a bunch of time and effort making your way up it. That’s the game. No likee, no playee.

Hey, don’t speak for me. You might not need the numbers but I am notoriously stupid. I need all the help I can get.
And now, thanks to your observations, not only will I be stressing that the number is getting larger because I’m having to run round some blocking terrain feature but now I’ll be stressing that I don’t even know how big the units of the ever increasing number is.
Or I might just ignore it and run towards the waypoint.
Yep, that’s venting alright.
And now… B-R-E-A-T-H-E!
Stuff changes. Just roll with it and find the parts of the new stuff that you enjoy most. If you don’t find those parts then… there are other worlds out there.
But, yeah. Good rant. I give it 8/10.
How much is that super duper pack?

Or we could just, you know, run towards the target location and be happy that the distance number is decreasing.

Gotta love a comedy rage quit.
Of course, he won’t really quit. He’ll play the expansion, accumulate the points and pretend he’s hating it.

Speaking as someone with a 9 foot high Norn toon and a 3 foot high munchkin, um, I mean Asura toon, footsteps would not be an ideal unit of measurement.
question is d/d cele ele melee ?
A Melly Elly? WotChuTalkinAboutWillis? ;p

I would have thought it would show the distance away in the same “units” that are used for stuff like weapon ranges, e.g. staffs have a range of 1200. I’ve seen the units described as “inches”, which is not particularly helpful when you are looking at a computer screen…
stick it in the main bug report thread, mate
+1 to this.
Actually, no. I’ll push the boat out and give it a massive +2.
I’m sure the devs have noted it but just in case.
This bug thread has lots of folks seeing freeze/crash when viewing various cutscenes. Must be a general cutscene problem rather than a HoT specific one.
Game froze/crashed when talking to guild hall chappie.
Can’t remember the NPC name. He was in the guild initiative place. I think he was trying to show me a preview of the guild hall or of the area where you claim it. The UI stuff was removed just like it is when you trigger a cut scene and then it just froze. I had to kill GW2 with Windows Task Manager.
