No thank you. I’m very happy with the time gate and the untradable nature of them because it means that some crafting is still worthwhile.
If you can’t be bothered to spend a few seconds charging a crystal most days for a couple of weeks then you don’t deserve the armour imo.
If you were trying to form a squad in AB in the 30 minutes after the meta finished then I think you have been scuppered by the aftermath of multiloot. Once folks have looted all the available maps they head off elsewhere, leaving a lot of empty maps that need to be closed.
I agree that the megaserver could be better but AB is a particularly difficult one for it to handle because of the multiloot thing.
I think it would be amazingly annoying if mobs behaved “sensibly”. Even if they were made more squishy to compensate half our skills would be obsolete because the mobs would just dodge, block or step away from the damage. And imagine if at some point they decided to run away like a Skritt burglar. It might be more realistic but I’m not sure it would be more fun.
This exact problem was what put me off HoT. All I had to do was earn a bit of XP to get gliding but I could not follow the zerg, because they could glide and mushroom-jump their way around and most of the mobs were too strong for me alone. I just died and died and died. I ended up finding some tigers and killing them over and over for a tiny bit of XP each time. Tedium squared and not a great start to an exciting new expansion.
The story line is there to offer us a bit of guidance and hand-holding so I thought it was a very lazy piece of design to simply be told “Come back when you have earned gliding”. That story step could have been “Report to Commander XYZ for further training”, providing a set of repeatable tasks for us.
My wife has still not earned gliding. She just avoids the HoT maps completely. I’d be very interested to know how many other HoT-enabled accounts are out there that have not yet earned gliding.
I don’t know why those bosses have not quit the game yet. Most of them get their kittens handed to them every couple of hours. That’s got to be demoralising…
The problem with the mastery points approach is that almost all of them are “all or nothing” things. You can’t gradually earn one. You have to do the jump, reach the location, beat the time etc. Imagine if there was an alternative way to earn the masteries, like just requiring a (huge) amount of XP or Karma or currencies. You could progress a little each day on that sort of thing. Right now I’ve kinda got all of the MPs I am likely to get (about 116), because I can’t or won’t do the required tasks for the others. I just don’t want/need them enough to spend time doing stuff I don’t enjoy.
But if there was an alternative very S-L-O-O-O-O-W way to make a little progress each day I’d be doing just that.
It’s not a technical limitation. It’s a design decision and one I whole-heartedly agree with.
A DPS meter does not belong in GW2 imho.
On a related note, if you open a HoT reward chest in a non-HoT area which mastery bar gets the XP? HoT or Core?
Sadly, and not the answer you want, the best way is to spend those 8 hours farming gold then buy the mats to level crafting, using the above-mentioned site to minimise the costs. The good news is that you have not got too many levels to go.
More slots in the skills bar? Next expa?

I’d quite like some flexibility in choosing the first 5 skills rather than having them set by my weapon choice. They could still limit the choices based on weapon but it would be nice to have a bit of variety.
As ever, most people that are moved enough to post about CS on a forum are the ones who were not happy with the outcome so you don’t really get a balanced view.
I fundamentally disagree with this:
…5-man dungeons, which, IMO is the glue that holds MMOs together
Dungeons are an add-on. Many players will not play them.
The only reason anyone wants to duel in open world PVE is so they can show off and boost their ego.
And that’s the same reason that they will then use map chat to boast of their skills/leetness, and then the (sore) loser will respond/react, and then random players will ask them both to take their argument to PMs which, of course, they will not do. Result: salty map chat all round. Abuse, Mom insults, homophobic insults etc etc.
Then there is the scenario where one player is using map chat to try to provoke someone into accepting a duel.
It’s all about ego. I’ve seen it in other games and it’s always ugly.
So no thanks.
Something that really does not help is that some of the rewards in the new maps give “a large amount of XP” immediately upon completion. If you consider that a large chunk (probably the majority) of players will not have maxed their masteries then that type of reward does seem a bit provocative. “Here. Have a big slice of stuff you can’t use”…

Unbound Magic lost forever for Vanilla acc?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I have a core-only alt account (paid not free) that has been harvesting various HoT nodes in a HoT player’s home instance and it is no longer showing Unbound Magic or Aurillium. It can still harvest the nodes for Rubies and stuff and the Unbound Magic and Aurillium do show when you harvest the nodes but they are not in the currencies list. Hard to say whether that stuff is being lost or whether it is secretly accumulating. I’m unlikely to ever upgrade that account to HoT so it’s not a particularly big deal to me.
The OP has just reinforced my impression of a typical dueller….
I’m confident I can avoid making it onto the naughty list as long as I don’t mention the OP’s big nose or bad dress sense. Yep. I’ll be fine I reckon….
You definitely need to just report it and move on. There are bots in all games and GW2 is better than most at controlling them. There are also plenty of legit players who get mistaken for bots. TBH, I don’t think bots have much of an impact on most aspects of the game. Report ’em then forget ’em.
Flapping != Gliding
PVE duelling causes salty arguments and abuse in the chat window, and it’s usually map-wide chat.
Compared with other games, PVE in GW2 is relatively free of abuse and rudeness.
Hence I would never be in favour of introducing anything that might encourage abusive behaviour in PVE.
Does everything in game need a spoiler tag just incase somebody doesn’t know about it?
In my view, anything pertaining to very new content does, no matter how small. I’m currently playing with the chat widow off and (mostly) avoiding forum threads about the new stuff. It’s not a biggie and I’d probably rescue the cub anyway but it’s hard to keep hold of the joy of discovery in these sort of games. And it’s not that hard to stick a spoiler tag on it….
Maybe you should avoid the forums altogether then? Since you seem far more, ‘military’, in your description of “spoilers”.
I still don’t think this is a spoiler.
I don’t really get why you are so upset. It’s not even your thread. All I asked was for a spoiler tag to give warning to others that they may also consider it to be a (very small) spoiler. /shrug

Can you add “[Spoiler]” to the thread title?
I didn’t know about that cub.
I’ve no problem with “exploity”. Not a real word but it has a clear meaning.
Just don’t hold you breath for a spectacular recovery of ecto prices any time soon. The ML thing has been going forever yet ectos are still well in demand and there will be millions of them sitting in banks. It may never actually “recover”.
On a related note, it may well be a good time to sell off your leather before they introduce a reliable way to farm it.
If you have any unused char slots then definitely create a new toon and boost it to 80. Then use it a storage toon (“mule”) for all the oddball account-bound stuff you have collected but will probably never use.
If you don’t have a spare slot then yes, you can boost an existing toon, even a lvl 80, or you can just discard the booster to get access to the shared slot. Mind you, you said you don’t really play any of your alts so a shared slot is not going to be that useful to you in any case.
If he’s your best friend, can’t you just ask him not to do it?
If you guys could stop arguing and call a truce then this thread could get back on topic. Just agree to disagree.
The lesson I learned from HoT was to carefully read the weasel words of the pre-purchase offer. If I had paid more attention then I would not have been so surprised when I didn’t get an extra character slot. Once bitten….
Initial impressions:
I like it. More stuff to do, another home instance node to buy, great terrain. I like the torch stuff.
Negatives:
- That map seriously needs a few more way points and/or shortcuts.
- The last boss is brutal. It’s a personal story, not a raid or dungeon and many folks will be attempting it solo. Some will succeed, some will not. Even when you understand the rather obscure mechanics it is not an easy fight.
One small suggestion. It seems that the trend is to sell us a new portal scroll for each new map. That’s great but they are starting to clutter up the inventory a little. A universal portal device that we could add our scrolls and portals destinations to would be excellent. So you double-click it and it offers you a list of your available destinations.
Yes, I’d like a few more too. Or maybe a separate bit for longer term goals.
It depends how they fix it, but it is most likely to kill the map completely.
The map won’t be killed, you’ll find meta such as TD meta. Maybe VB and TD will have more players for meta, which is good.
Most folks will just move onto the next best farming spot and the AB meta will join the rest of the unpopular HoT content. A few die-hards will do it but most will not. /shrug
Petrified home instance node in emberbay?

I haven’t bought it yet but it showed up this morning in the vendor list and did not show yesterday. I’m waiting for more confirmation before I buy it.

Underwater combat sucks. Always. In every game.
We’ve all got the update patch and have already nabbed all the good loot. Sorry.
I have a reason to keep the timegate. I sometimes craft a grow lamp to sell and that timegate is the only thing that makes it worthwhile.
I assume you know about the handy place in Queensdale where you can charge a crystal in a few tens of seconds? It’s not the end of the world to have to do that for 30 days.
Is it BIG POST day?
I’m waiting for 1g each. Then I might sell some.
Or maybe 1.5 g each would be better…
The Never Ending Track
T0: Every time experience is applied to this track, the total amount of experience required to complete this track is also increased by the amount gained. This track starts at 1 xp to complete.

Hey! Only 1 XP! I can earn 1 XP no problem…
Inspections would absolutely kill what little build diversity we still have. Any pug who raids or does fractals will be inspected and rejected if they are too far from the “perfect” build. It would not be such a big problem if we could switch builds as easily as in GW1 but in GW2 it is harder and more expensive to maintain multiple builds for one toon.
And open world duelling just causes lots of chat abuse as players complain about the unfairness and/or insult each others’ moms.
I am sorry to say this ArenaNet, but The Worst Mastery system Ever is what we have now.
So now we have this:
1. Fill up xp bar, then fetch separate Mastery points from map and spent. That is clumsy system.2. You loose all extra xp points if you don’t have enough mastery points to spent and you have filled up all those mastery lines and you are not good enough to get Mastery points anymore either.
I have high hopes that ArenaNet will do in a future fix this mastery system as they did with traits and specializations.
So what kind of change?
1. Those who have HoT: They choose mastery line what you want to work. Fill up the experience bar and character will earn Mastery point, when xp bar has been filled up. Then that xp bar will start to fill up again. You need to fill up that xp bar as many times as you need Mastery points. It is not so fast, but at least you are earning them all. (Yes I mean even 12 times or 15 times fill up that yellow xp bar.)2. Those who does not have HoT: Can only earn Spirit Shards when they fill up that xp bar.
3. Those HoT players who have all Mastery points earned, anticipate that there will come more mastery lines in Living story / Expansion, can earn extra Mastery points just filling up that xp bar by playing. If they don’t want to earn them, then there is same kind of system what is in WvW reward system. You choose from that little box, what is top frame of the little map and choose, Spirit Shard line or Mastery point line. So in that way you are handling by yourself what you are earning; Spirit Shards or Mastery points.
I know, I know, People will yell now: “Don’t touch system what is working!” But you can make that working system more player friendly, you know. It is not easy change, but it will quarantee that everybody will get possibility to earn all Mastery points. Even casual ones. They just need to work for longer to get those Mastery points and they will do it eventually.
Someone didn’t understand the OP’s post at all.
I think they understood it perfectly. It’s not their fault that you don’t agree
Mastery points, especially those locked behind daft mini-games. If there have to be mastery points then I want to be able to progress a small amount towards one each time I play not reach a point where I’m stuck until I can make that jump, or shoot enough things in 2 minutes, or perform the almost impossible dive etc.
I don’t mind very slow progress. I do mind progress blockers.
We could have a “Complete the map to earn a mastery that will help you complete the map” mastery.
Oh, wait. That one already exists….
I think you might all be over-reacting to something that doesn’t happen very often
Yup, make a thread with [Suggestion] in the title and brace yourself for more feedback than you could ever want. But good suggestions will reach the devs.
Yeah, the name made me smile too. They should have done two different packs to cover both possible outcomes…
I think it’s a bit of an odd combination of stuff tbh. Not sure who that appeals to.
I’ve got socks smarter than him.
I know it’s a minority view but I’d vote to abolish all bosses from all games. Never liked them, even in the very early days of video games before some of you were born ;p
You can’t just poll people who are already capped about abolishing the cap. That’s like polling prisoners about abolishing prisons…
