One of the things I’m not keen on in modern gaming is the expectation that everyone will be using google, wiki and youtube to figure out what to do in the game. It’s fine to have that option but it should be possible to work out almost everything in the game without resorting to that stuff. There could be NPCs in each zone who can give you the lowdown if you ask them: what, where, when, who? It’s not just HoT stuff either. The first time I had a world boss on my daily list I zoned in to the map and, um, no clue. Those timer sites should be unnecessary.

I initially thought they were pricey but now I wouldn’t be without they. As well as sharing salvage kits they are excellent for transferring stuff between toons without them both having to visit the bank. Especially handy if you are in the habit of parking lesser used toons at JP chests ;p

“It’s just not fun” sums up exactly how I feel about those 4 HoT maps. I don’t think Anet realised just how many players run around casually and “mostly solo”. Anyhow, the good news is that the maps after HoT, the ones in living story 3, are much more friendly to us casuals, with space to breathe and explore and enjoy without being constantly wiped out by a house plant or knocked down by a short guy dressed as a mushroom.
The bad news is that to get there and to get the most out of the maps you do need to acquire a few masteries like gliding and updrafts.

The new maps have some great scenery and time and space to look at it. And Bloodstone Fen has so many updrafts that you can just glide around forever without needing to train or consult a Dulfy guide. Imagine that – actually being able to play the game without a guide! (/sarcasm)

When Anet finally kill off the Auric Basin multiloot thing I’ll have no reason at all to go to any of those 4 awful HoT maps. I sometimes wonder if those maps were sponsored by the unofficial websites that you need to use just to play the meta. What on earth were they thinking when they designed them???

If it bothers you just report it and move on. It’s not something I stress about.
If it was significant affecting the game the devs would deal with it. GW2 seems to have much fewer gold sellers and botters than other similar games.

It’s a bit glib to say “You don’t need the mastery point because there are others”. Lots of those other mastery points are also gated behind mini-games or difficult tasks that are unrelated to the main gameplay.

I spent about an hour on this JP, using a video guide, and I did not even reach the third waypoint. I don’t care about the JP but I do care about that mastery point.

(And just in case anyone is wondering, I spent about an hour in Sanctum Scramble (with a video) and did not reach halfway. I spent less time on most of the other mini-games but with equally bad results). These sort of things should have rewards that are independent of the main game progress. Titles, unique skins, novelty widgets, whatever. They should not give mastery points.

You don’t need gold in any adventures either to get all of the mastery points needed to max your mastery tracks, you don’t even need to get silver in any of them. You need 128 mastery points to unlock all HoT masteries, and there are 163 HoT mastery points available. That means there are 35 extra HoT mastery points. Only 30 mastery points are involved with adventures period (technically there is another mastery point for getting bronze in each adventure in VB). Add in the one from CoT, add in the mastery point for HoT Act 4 mastery (in case you don’t want to do Migraine and/or Flights of Fancy) and you still have 2 (or 3) extra mastery points that you don’t have to complete to finish your mastery tracks.

And, even if this isn’t good enough for you, the next LWS3 episode will bring new mastery points with it as well. With an average of 6 mastery points coming in each new LWS3 episode so far, and with the next mastery likely to take either 3 or 5 mastery points, you will also be getting additional “optional” mastery points to tackle.

Yep, that’s the glibness I’m talking about. MPs gated by minigames and JPs is like having to play Candy Crush to earn upgrades in your car racing game.

Sounds a lot of ‘non-raiders’ are actively fighting against going to the raid in any way. Bullheaded behaviour… just do the kitten escort. It’s really not harder than any dungeon. If you are not even willing to do that then live with it.

A sterling endorsement from the ‘raid community’. Come one, come all to experience the lack of joy and poor attitudes!

…Seriously, this doesn’t even affect raiders, so why kew about it?

Yup, there is a raider’s attitude, right there.

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

I don’t keep accurate records of this stuff which is why I’m asking if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

In fact, I’ve never really paid attention to where the keys and aurillium come from. All I know is that after sorting through the spoils of an ML and spending all my aurillium on keys I would typically have around the same number of keys I started with (100, give or take), some from the vendor, some from the loot. Over the last couple of weeks it has gradually dwindled to 60 keys and I don’t think my ML habits have changed. I know that the devs are looking for a way to discourage the ML without killing the meta and slightly reducing the key supply would do just that.

Hence the question…

DoctorDing.5890

Anyone else noticed that the amount of Aurillium produced by multiloot has dropped a bit?

I used to be pretty much self-sustaining in Exalted Keys but now they seem to be gradually decreasing.

If it is a subtle nerf then I applaud it. It will encourage (force?) players like me to do more events before each ML.

If not AFK farmers then what?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

I’ve sold about 200 golds worth of leather, cloth, wood and metals in the last few days. This is just stuff I’ve been accumulating over the last few months. And the reason for this sudden sell off? The gold to gem rate has dipped and I’m building up a stash of gems ready for the next sale. I imagine there are many others who also keep a keen eye on the gem price and sell stuff at those times.

The OP is imagining a small number of AFK mega farmers but a more mundane explanation might be many thousands of ordinary players selling off modest quantities of stuff, all triggered by the price of something else they want, in this case gems. And lots of prices have a regular 24 cycle. Gems are cheaper first thing in the morning (EU time).

No it’s not always a happy community event and it creates a lot of drama for no reason. The game doesn’t need those types of events at all.

Then you’ve been doing it wrong hehe. In the right squad it’s fun, relaxing and lucrative. The only real saltiness is when the meta fails. There will be more of that after the nerf. And ectos will still be cheap…

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DoctorDing.5890

No-one knows how or when the nerf will take place but it is coming at some point.
TBH, I think it will mostly kill off the map which will be a shame as it is the only time I ever go to any of the HoT maps.

It’s also really the only time I coordinate with other players and, as mentioned above it is FUN! Fun is what the game is supposed to be. Yes, it has affected the economy but so have many other things and anyone who thinks that the ecto price will significantly recover is living in cloud-cuckoo land. The low price will remain for months/years.

Multiloot is a vibrant and happy community event. The game needs those type of events. Careful what you wish for….

No title for crafting a legendary weapon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think the reward is the weapon and the warm feeling you get as you soak up the admiration of your fellow players. Actually, the last bit is a lie. If all the other players are like me you’ll see them staying further away from you than that used to, just to avoid the annoying audio and visual effects.

I suppose I could support a title for crafting one though. How about “I crafted this even though it was cheaper to buy one”?

Triple Trouble: I think it is too hard

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DoctorDing.5890

DoctorDing.5890

I agree that it is far too hard for what is, after all, an open world boss. However, it is what it is and the only chance you’ll ever get to succeed is with an organised map. If you are on a map 10-15 mins before the start and there are only one or two comms then just leave it. Someone will always say “let’s try anyway” but it will never succeed.

An organised map will have three comms and be bossing folks about in chat well before the start. I shouldn’t have to be like that but it is.

Some things have to be rarer and more expensive than others, otherwise we’d all have everything and then we’d be bored.

I don’t think anyone is “flipping” them on the TP, simply because the buy-sell spread is not that favourable and anticipating the short term fluctuations is risky. Most likely players get them for logging in, deposit them with everything else and then forget about them. That’s what I used to do until folk started making threads like this one and I realised their value. Now I sell a few here and there when I need the gold.

If you can’t be bothered to spend a few seconds charging a crystal most days for a couple of weeks then you don’t deserve the armour imo.

Being able to trade charged quartz would make them more valuable, as people who didn’t want to waste time just waiting for resets to charge enough for a fullset would buy them off the TP.
