[Suggestion] Human Male Hairstyles

The reason I posited my ponytail as Varian-like is because it is a realistic toned down version as I said. If you want your hair pulled back behind your head with a spike hanging down in front, you got it.

If you want a wild explosion of low-rez hair spikes, well … I don’t happen to like those on Charr and would find them even more jarring on a human. How much hair gel do Tyrians have on hand, anyway?

Beards, yes, please. Donari’s fine-line beard suits him but I would love alts to have more options than thin line, baby cheeks, or slightly unshaven stubble. Or sea captain too long at sea, for the one full beard.

Basically the HoT trailer is your source. They show the druid casting a vine spell with the wolf running into battle alongside it. Why would they show something they don’t plan on including with Druids?

Because all those months ago when they made the trailer they had a design in mind but since then it’s changed? Like adding weapon swap to Revenant.

I’m on the side of the debate that believes the pets will persist, especially as you only 1/3 trait to the Elite. In fact, for RPers’ sakes who give their pets names and personality and an integral place in their plot lines, I rather hope they will. But I’m sure if they had reached a design point where ditching the pet made sense for the Elite, they’d do so.

I do recall one dev’s offhand comment in an interview that he felt the featured Druid staff skill shown in the trailer was “the most boring one.” Or maybe “the least exciting.” I remember the sentiment more than the precise phrase. So they’re likely to iterate pretty much everything we see in that clip.

So while pet retention seems a nigh certainty to me for other reasons, I in no way consider the wolf in the trailer as binding on ANet.

Druid concept art reveal

Donari.5237

I am trying to figure out the pose. I’m pretty sure we’re seeing the right arm go crosswise with just the right breast showing in profile (the left curvy part of the vest is actually on the back), with the left arm showing behind and to the left. Then the legs are doing an odd highly knock-kneed twist, and the head is really twisted in a neck-killing manner.

It’s full of dynamic motion and energy but I’m in pain just thinking about taking that pose.

I guess it shows off the staff and a new shoulder piece?

The green blob to the right does look like a solid head of a creature of some sort but the yellow thing seems to me to be a drifting mote of energy, not something in an eye socket.

As someone who also came from WoW (mostly Fire Mage and Holy Priest), I too had to learn to dodge and to retain mobility in fights.

I would suggest Guardian to you as needing the least mobility thanks to all the protective boons they can keep generating. They are nothing like WoW paladins. Toss in some healing power and while they might not kill anything fast, they will resist dying very nicely and survive things that might one-shot others.

I’m pretty sure from the context of your post that you mean “We’ve been locked against players joining our server” because it reads like you’ve had a few months where you could not prevent them and thus they are flooding in.

Y’might want to fix that and then post in the WvW forum because the WvW devs are much likelier to see it there.

(Sorry I can’t comment on the meat of your post, I pay almost no attention to WvW issues so I have insufficient background knowledge to weigh the value of making the high tier servers shed some population).

Keyboard / Mouse/ Etc. Position

I have my keyboard slightly offset to the left with a wrist pad in front of it, and my mouse immediately to its right. Monitor centered in front of me with second monitor to the right. I use a Naga HEX so I can put all my movement on the mouse (annoying for ground targeting purposes but vital to my ability to move at all). My mousepad has an integrated gel wrist pad and my desk chair has a padded arm rest I can set to my preferred height so my arm rests on it with my mouse near the edge of the desk while I still have full support. (I’ve layered more mouse pads on top of the gel one, actually, to get a slightly better height plus a better surface). When I type my left arm stays on the left chair arm but I have to pull my right arm over. I seldom type for enough hours for that to be a strain, though. As it is my left hand rests easily over most of the keyboard area used for game controls while my right hand reaches straight ahead for the mouse.

Sorry I’m no neatnik but here’s how it is:

I soloed it my first time. On a Thief. My armor was in shreds by the end (especially since I had to turn to the forums to learn about using the Divine Fire to snuff out the fire-eating shadows), but I did it. Subsequently I’ve soloed it on mesmer, or as good as, I was doing the fight while someone else lay dead.

It’s not an easy fight, and the achieves are even harder, but it’s not too hard for two players.

As to what you get, you get the achieve, the experience in beating more complex mechanics than just dpsing, the unlock to do further achieves so you can get more Luminescent armor, a pair of cool cut scenes … getting another character slot wouldn’t help you survive in HoT, you can only play one alt at a time. Getting a weapon would … get you another weapon of the exact same stat balance you already have, which would also do nothing to increase your HoT skill.

It is, however, completely voluntary and optional content. It’s there to give you some goodies that you don’t need for game play and to present the story to you, that’s all.

There’s no need for a guild bank, is there? Anything you can put in a guild bank you can put in your personal bank, and all the stuff in your personal bank stays with the account as far as I know. In fact, wouldn’t a guild bank be EU/NA specific?

I’ve never transferred servers so my comments are repeats of what I’ve seen others write in response to similar questions in the past, not based on personal experience.

1 — As far as I know, it does. There is likely a wiki article to confirm it.

2 — Correct. The only things lost are items on the deleted alts. He should strip every alt of everything, even their inventory bags, put shareable items in the account bank, sell/salvage all the soulbound stuff, deposit the mats, and end up with naked alts before deletion. Or else he’ll be going “darn it! I forgot X item was on that alt!”

Suggestion: New Res Animations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I like the idea a lot. I can see the issues in PvP areas so maybe they could be disabled there? Or else someone planning to PvP could toggle to the basic animation for the duration.

One issue would be if you want the rezzer to do something other than crouch and pat the ground. That would likely take a lot more animation work than just adding in some special effects. So the effects would need to be designed around that basic character animation. Also, would they go off during the channel of the rez or only when the person successfully stands up? What happens if you stop rezzing partway through the channel?

I do think only the first one to rez should have their effect showing, though that could lead to a frisson of annoyance if you wanted to show off your effect … I get that little “darn it” jolt every time someone else starts a stomp on a Toxic Alliance a tick before I do.

[Request] Bank reclone/reset for BWE3+

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I understand that it would be nice to have a few more things in the bank for the next BWE. Heck, I’d love to have a reset of transmutation charges even though I still have plenty to make a few beta alts look good.

But the thing is, this beta isn’t for us to test out how to best set up our characters; that’s just a nice side effect. It’s for ANet to test how the content works for large numbers of players and to get player feedback on how to enhance things. I don’t see how having a legendary affects that in any way beyond maybe being able to fiddle stats a tiny bit while staying on the same alt. But there are plenty of testers who do have legendaries, so the data will get to ANet even if any particular player doesn’t manage to have one.

That holds for some of the stat combos, too, ANet doesn’t need a specific player to have them, they just need some players to have them, and it seems likely some will.

It’s all getting wiped afterwards regardless. Who needs to be the biggest and baddest in a beta? The tools will be there to test the fundamentals, to get proofs of concept, and to get ideas on desired tweaks for live HoT.

About the only thing I see as being a bar to testing is if someone didn’t manage to have their AR gear in the bank for the first snapshot so they can’t test how the elites fare in higher tier Fractals. But again, there will be some people who are set up for it. The testing will happen.

Gyro "pet" :)

I think what they meant was the gyro would have its own separate finisher rather than using your selected one (Irenio did say it would use the player’s finisher, but then it was never demonstrated). I would hope it wouldn’t be a gemstore skin, as it were, because so far they haven’t made anything that only one profession can use and then charged that profession to use it.

Of course they could make a finisher everyone could use that is gyro themed.

As to a mini pet, yes please. So long as the spinning copter blades aren’t visible the way flickering wasp wings are … I get queasy fast when there are rapid flickers or spinning things in my view that I can’t get away from, so if someone has a spinny pet out during RP I get ill.

Donari.5237

Sorry, didn’t have the exact word but the principle and function are the same. Specifically though on female characters down to the bellybutton to not interfere with the skirt while on males down to the waist.

Let’s keep things clear for the ANet folks considering the suggestions

A tabard will generally hang to the thigh or further, front and back. The reason you get them cut off at the waist in things like Human T3 Heavy is because of the need to cut armor at the waist to go with the animation skeleton.

I would love proper tabards — basically loose sleeveless two-paneled things, the arm openings can be just down to the ribs or all the way to the hem or anywhere in between, with the hem hanging properly low. I’d want them separate from armor except I can only imagine the nightmare of clipping we’d get. They could optionally have the guild symbol on them, or perhaps just have a variety of dye channel patterns (particolor, checkerboard, etc). I’d want good flowing physics on them, or at least the sway of heavily brocaded velvet.

I don’t know that such a thing would be doable, though, the armor rigging just isn’t designed for overlaid pieces or for torsos that continue down over the legs while still showing the leg armor (except in Medium, which does that and that’s why we get the trenchcoats).

(Side note as I seem picky about terminology tonight — almost none of the Medium coats look anything like a trenchcoat beyond having a leg covering “skirt.” Attached find a picture of a classic trenchcoat; it might or might not have the little shoulder cape in back used to help shed rain. I don’t think it’s the right aesthetic for Tyria, even though I love wearing trenchcoats RL, they make me feel noir plus they are cut to flatter most figures).

I understand why you ask but, um, you might get in trouble for asking for an item trade here. It’s against the forum rules to treat them as a grey market. Especially when you ask to trade really high value items without any assurances against scamming.

You’re best off selling Dawn and using the proceeds towards Dusk, or just selling Dawn and then getting set to craft Dusk once HoT launches.

Better be careful, Gaile. One thing that amused me in Larry Niven’s Known Space universe was in the Gil the Arm tales. Niven posited that over time language changes so that things used as euphemisms for bad words become bad words themselves. So someone cussing out Gil might say “You bleeping blankity blank, I’m going to bleep your blank until it’s redacted all to censored blanks!”

Only of course, ANet is pushing “kitten” into the euphemism category. It’s going to be a bad word all by itself, one day, you’ll see.

Plenty of adults like to converse in a civilized and decent manner without excessive intrusions of crude words used to express ire or derision. I daresay that this preference is one of the marks of having earned the label of adult in the first place, so long as they don’t get mean spirited about others who prefer freer language.

I’m not upset by foul language. I use it myself, for appropriate emphasis, in appropriate settings. But as many internet posters are a bit looser than myself in their idea of appropriateness for use, I’m just as glad ANet has put in an amusing filter.

The problem for me came when I wanted to drop down to a mastery point but decided to be clever and use the trained skill to stall and drift straight down. I jumped, I stalled. And I splatted because I’d been so intent on hitting my stall key I forgot to deploy the glider first.

A nice — if puzzled — Charr saved me via a timely rez from having to run/glide all the way back to the drop point.

I never type the synonym for baby cat on purpose as a swear because I know people will think I typed something worse. Occasionally I get felined for typing innocent phrases that contain a bad word as a subset, eg you just cannot say a price is a tad cheaper if you want bit rather than tad. When I notice I edit them for clarity.

Raedwulf, I feel your pain. While we should remain very careful about actual use of the n word — I know that on those occasions when I had to say it in court as part of cross examination I just about choked on it (if the reason your client got into a fist fight was thanks to that word being used insultingly to him, you sort of have to mention it in your arguments and questioning) — we should remain equally careful not to fly off the handle at other words that incorporate the string of letters or, worse, just sort of sound like it. Context is everything.

On the other hand I don’t see how they can make an effective filter that doesn’t make contextual errors. Though as they discover them, as in the word for a facility holding a lot of weapons, or for weighing value of an argument or size of a problem, or — as happened to me early in the game, a word that contains a bad word in another language, to wit, “reputation” — surely they can add exceptions to the filter?

Because the number of baby cats in these forums means some of them are going to end up in shelters. Remember to spay or neuter your posts!

So...what IS Living World?

Donari.5237

Adding in: once you unlock it, it’s unlocked for all your alts, even ones you haven’t made yet. None of them have to be 80 at the time of unlock, they just have to get to 80 to play it whenever in the future you want them to.

I don’t know if the 40% offer is still going, but if it is, it’s worth it. You might want to do the achievements one day to unlock Luminescent Armor or just to enjoy a challenge, and that requires Chapters 5-8 (for the armor — there are challenges in all 8 chapters). You might want to experience the story from your own PoV, have control over the pacing, be able to read/interact with all the items yourself. If you do, and you didn’t buy it when it was cheaper, you’ll possibly be annoyed at yourself.

Also, it’s a large hunk of the narrative set up for what you’ll be experiencing in HoT. Given how superficial the summary video in LA is as to all the stuff that went down in LS1, playing through LS2 yourself will set the lore much more firmly in your mind.

I’ve always found it easiest to zoom my map out and find the end destination for my green star rather than follow map to map to map, as I likely have a closer WP than the guide realizes. So oddities in green whirly arrow placement have little impact.

OP, about the mail, they could mean there is an in-game mail you receive at the start of or during the LS chapter and if you don’t read it when you receive it some things won’t advance. There has been no mass email, in or out of game, addressing any bug, ever, at least none that I’ve seen. Their mass emails are for notices of upcoming content.

I have found Support to be unfailingly helpful and kind in every ticket I’ve submitted. You’ve only quoted one line, possibly way out of context. Could you share the full exchange, editing out any private information, so we can better assist you to understand the response you received?

Let us make HoT characters now

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

The way it works, Monk Tank, is you figure out the looks you like, document the sliders via screenshots that you save where you can find them again, and name the character the name you want to keep.

Then you let it sit at level 1, not even touching the tutorial. Which is just what you’re asking to do wtih pre-making a HoT alt.

When HoT launches, you delete the place holder alt. You then have 24 hours with that name reserved. During those hours, you remake it in your desired profession with the sliders you’ve pre-chosen, apply the name, and hit Create.

Voila, you have your HoT alt in exactly the same condition it would be if you were somehow able to pre-make it. Or are you asking to level it up sooner? For all but Revenant, you can do that now, exactly to your specifications (pun intended) and then add the Elite spec in once HoT is live and you have enough Hero Points.
