For the most part <1 hour of play is enough per patch to get through the living story plot points.

its >8 hours if you want the achievements, which for the most part don’t lock you out of plot points. (anet is learning)

The latest patch gives you all the major plot points in < 30 mins.

I’m still trying to figure out why anyone is paying 10 gold for something that is 100% cosmetic.

People pay a lot more than 10 gold for cosmetics.

Like buying cultural armor which costs a lot of gold, then you gotta buy transmutation stones if you don’t have them to actually have decent stats.

There is no reason why a cat next to a wall wouldn’t do damage to that wall.

Physics.

Just historically you wouldn’t put a cat next to a wall because the defenders would just drop rocks on it and destroy it. And in this game the defenders can build an ac and just destroy it.

There is plenty of open world content to do if you want to run with 8 people. Yes you are locked out of doing dungeons with 8 people but they have been designed and tuned to 5 people, and that’s not going to change.

It probably feels wrong because the majority of players are not doing it.

Yet its quite intended. I just played a fun game where it was 10-11, only reason it was close to begin with is because of denials. An active deny game means passing is even more important, and trying to solo run it in is poor play.

Keg brawl mechanics used to be broken. With an ability you could use to launch a keg out of the other side of the arena from the enemy side. Now I find them quite crisp and fun if it wasn’t for lag issues from time to time.

You can safely assume there will be no restat. Critical damage is being replaced with a stat that grants critical damage, so no.

not really, condi builds will be running +20% to +30% duration from traits, add more duration from food, and more for specific trait boosted conditions it can negate a lot of the defense condi reduction provides.

Is it? What specifically is unfair about it? Keep in mind the defender must first steal the keg before they can attempt to deny it.

Without it, defense is mostly a waste of time. You are better served waiting for the next keg in the center than trying to get the keg all the way down the arena.

You can turn your BoH into +1 WXP level and not touch actual WvW

50 BoH + 2 Laurals = 1 WXP level.

Not to mention you are going to get some WXP levels getting map completion. If you want an item that represents game completion I don’t see a problem with actually having to do the entire game.

Maybe. I can see where you’re coming from, but I’m always reminded of this one time where we had one skilled player who planted himself near the enemy goalkeeper, was stealing kegs from the enemy and then immediately throwing them out of the Arena. Considering we were already winning at the time, it seemed less like a valid defensive tactic and more like somebody just rubbing it in by refusing to let the enemy team score at all.

I’ve only ever seen the number of kegs on the field go up to 5 before, and that was when the game bugged and the match kept on going even after the timer expired. New kegs are not added to the field unless an existing keg is turned in or thrown out of the field.

Its only unfair if the opposing team doesn’t know how to play, then its just taking candy from a baby. But if you are up against skilled opponents its pretty much required to prevent the enemy team from scoring. Because if you manage to steal or intercept the keg near the enemy goal you are not going to be able to bring it out to midfield unless you have ability #5 off cooldown. If you don’t deny it they just knock it out of your hands and score anyway. Against skilled opponents it is therefor a waste of time to try to defend and you should focus everything on offense. Denying lets defense actually mean something.

Also new kegs are added to the field even if no keg is scored/denied. Sometimes even 3 at once.

Keep in mind each player has 3 dodges when running the keg, and the defense has only one ability that knocks the keg out, and 2 abilities that knock the runner down. And the runner can still throw the keg with skill #1 when knocked down. Defense is not easy. And I don’t think denying is going away so it would be better if it was embraced – its not imbalanced and adds to the game instead of detracting from it.

Ehhh, I dunno about that tactic. Deliberately throwing kegs out of the arena feels like a cheap trick to me, like how some soccer players will fake injury when they’re not actually hurt to try and get an enemy player sent off. I always get annoyed when somebody else does that, whether they’re on my team or not.

Agreed on all the other points though.

It makes defense possible against skilled opponents. It also deals with the situation where the game seems to think you should have 80 kegs on the field :P.

Not doing it weakens defense and makes offense too strong imo. Denying should stay, and players should use it. Its not like its unfair.

If any messages were sent to you in game of this nature arenanet can take a look at it.

Keep in mind that any out of game harassment is not under arenanets domain, and they cannot resolve it. Your best bet is to contact a teamspeak administrator about the situation.

And if you are wondering if your going to be kicked from your guild… you need to talk to your guild leadership about that. Like now. especially if someone is making false accusations against you. If that guild wants you as a player they will keep you and probably can help you get the guy to quit it. If a guild is that willing to drop you over someone like that then I would be looking for a new guild right now. Most guilds like their members and will take extra effort to defend them.

Yes, reply to the email that Arenanet support system sent you and write that you want to close the ticket as you do not need resolution. When an employee gets to your ticket number they will see that response and close the ticket wasting little time.

I feel your pain. Keg Brawl and Crab Toss are the greatest activities out there. They require actual skill to a certain point.

Why do I get the feeling that you’re not joking? Honestly, the only thing worse than the keg brawl is the crab toss, and no skill is required. The only thing that could make it better, if we could play with friends as a group. That’s it.

As they stand now these two (for the lack of better words) things to do daily, are only done for the daily.

There is a great number of skills to learn in keg brawl, the difference between a skilled and unskilled keyboard turner is pretty huge.

Did you know you can defensively deny (delete) kegs?

Did you know you can step infront of passes and scoring attempts to intercept the keg? (The number of times i’ve stolen the keg with the #3 skill is pretty big).

Did you know playing proper zone and utilizing passing is the best way to win and defend?

Sure you can just try to hussle the kegs in kindergartener style but better players will outplay that strategy.

If I could I would challenge arenanet to a 5v5 keg brawl, to be streamed on their twitch channel.

If anyone insists that rangers are good in high end of WvW I have a challenge for them as follows:

Make 2 20 man teams

Team 1:
5 warriors, 5 guards
10 more of any mix of the following classes: Warrior, Guard, Ele, Necro

Team 2:
20 Rangers

The challenge is to have the 2 teams fight in open field combat at least 10 rounds, preferrably more, not necessarily on the same day. Breaks for switching traits, gear, utility skills etc. must be allowed every round.

Record videos of these battles, watch them. You will understand why rangers are left behind when recruiting for serious WvW.

This is pretty dumb… Even if rangers were balanced the mixed team is going to be able to handle a larger variety of situations. If 20 rangers could beat 20 mixed classes then rangers would be OP as hell and need to be nerfed.

Rangers do have useful things they bring to the zerg, the problem is other classes do it better. Why have a ranger for water fields when you can have an ele, who can also drop ranged stuns. They don’t have a strong useful niche for zerg combat.

Rangers are great to have in small group combat though, just not zerg combat.

Scarlet taunts you all the time. So yes, they can taunt you. If anet put a bunch of champ mobs on a spawnpoint they could farm you while you spawned too.

At least in wvw you can leave your spawn by a different direction and avoid the fight right infront of your spawn if you wanted to.

The minigames already use the spvp stuff to run them, I would imagine it wouldn’t be too much effort for them to make it available. Plus because custom arena’s are paid, they have an immediate way to recoup the costs.

Think of enemies in WvW as champion mobs with variable AI.

That’s dangerously close to “Don’t think of them as people”.
I know that wasn’t your intention, but still that’s slightly disturbing.

Enemy players in PvP are no different than PvE mobs as far as the game mechanics are concerned. Besides being more difficult to kill than your random walking loot bags in PvE. There is a reason Anet doesn’t openly display character names in WvW.

Point is the marionette has and will kill more players than the EoTM griefers for the next LS event.

I love keg brawl. It is my favorite activity.

There are so few all-stars out there though and most games are just herding cats or doing a majority of the work.

Really need to allow custom arenas to host keg brawl so it can fix all the issues with keg brawl (little reward, cant form teams, cant play with friends etc).

I stated this during the Ready Up livestream earlier today, but I’ll repeat it again here.

While we are releasing new story related content with the Edge of the Mists update, very little of that content actually occurs inside of the EotM map. Hopefully that alleviates some of your concerns!

I am a PvE player and I have been following the LS with great interest- if I wanted to WvW I would be doing that.

I really hope this statement means that I won’t be sitting this one out.

There is no way that I will be running around a WvW map for PvE story so that some kitten can get his jollies by killing me

So when you die in PvE its ok? But if another player kills you it is not ok?

I am willing to bet the marionette has and will kill more PvEers than PvPers killing PvErs going for the LS achievements in the EoTM patch.

Think of enemies in WvW as champion mobs with variable AI.

Why in the world would you open them all up in the first place even if they do stack? Were you going to play 60 hours straight more or less?

remaining booster time only ticks down when you are online.

I opened enough on my pvp char to last 8 hours, I did this so I wouldn’t have to keep grabbing them out of the locker every time I needed to use one.

Discussion: Downed/dead state and zerging

I like downed state, I do not like dead state.

The only limit I would put on cleaving/stomping is a 5 person cap, much like most skills in the game. Its a reasonable limitation and can help fights from snowballing. (If a zerg v zerg clashes and 15 are downed on each side, instead of one side getting all 15 back because they happened to kill the first downed, they only get 5, allowing for one of theirs to be finished so the other side can have a rally, not quite as snowbally).

Then there is dead state. Ressing from dead needs to be allowed, it sucks to fall off a cliff and die and have to walk back, not fun, but it needs to be limited.

If you are not being ressed you should be losing your hp, so you cant res someone a little bit at a time. You also should not be able to res defeated players while in combat, these two things together would stop zergs from being able to repair themselves in the middle of a fight, unless they win the field.

Alternatively let cleave rally 1 person and stomp 5.

Projectiles in GW2 can also be manually aimed without a target, while it is difficult to do you can bring your camera down to ground level and aim your shots. This is useful in some small instances such as shooting the head of archers defending walls without being vulnerable to being shot back.

Um, will have to see how its implemented. But essentially you can cap an objective in GW2 after you clear enough of the defenders. Just having another location doesn’t make defense any easier, objectives are lost as soon as people cant defend them.

The reality is every time this is tried is the attackers don’t split, they zerg one point, then the other, then after they have killed everyone they send one guy off to cap the other point.

What happens on defense is that the defenders will focus on defending a single point letting the other one drop freely. Then it will be a zerg vs zerg over a single point.

Saying there are 2 points to capture is just marketing but really doesn’t change how the game is played.

My second change would be that dead players slowly lose health if not being ressed and you are not allowed to res fully dead players while in combat. It would remove another funny edge case that I don’t think adds to the depth of the combat system but serves to power zergs.

Downed state/Rallying is a top 3 issue in WvW. But since it is an ANET implemented idea, somewhat unique in comparison to other games, and caters to bad players who need a crutch to get along….It will not go away.

That said there is little more frustrating then when solo roaming you come across 3-4 enemies, down 1-2 of them and the others just keep reviving the downed ones.

At least slow the revive speed down considerably.

Umm no. Coordinated groups use the rallying mechanic, often to strong effect. If you solo roam, you cannot effectively use the rally mechanic, and that’s something you have to live with (unless you are a ranger, but not too many of those in wvw these days)

The thing I want anet to do is nerf the rally mechanic for large groups. Limit the number of people rallied per kill would be a good start. 5 closest valid enemies should rally instead of infinite.

Player based rallying is awesome, you can really feel battles turn when organized groups use rally skills to bring up their downed and are able to finish off a few enemies in the meantime and turn that fight around. I feel that fights would be far more bland if the rally mechanic was removed.

No it didn’t. It caused unbelievable lagstorms as 100+ players tried to cram up a ramp with a bunch of tanks blocking backed up with mages. Not to mention sync and interpolation issues or block-banding.

Sure when pvp was reduced to 20 man groups because the game became unpopular it worked, kinda.

Yes it did work and it was a nice idea, the lag has little to do with collision detection, it isn’t that hard of a thing for a CPU to calculate really.

Um you have no idea what you are talking about. I was on the testing team, it lagged pretty badly. There were many instances where my character would warp backwards. Or I would just be taking damage from who knows what till the server went ‘oops’ your actually standing in this AOE next to this banner, olololol.

Yes, banners had collision boxes and you couldn’t walk through them, which lead to plenty of hilarious defenses where you just line the top of the stairs with banners and lolol at people trying to get through them.

It was broken. It lagged.

I much prefer GW2’s system where players themselves cannot bodyblock but you can put down static, temporary walls to prevent players without stability from passing. Its a nice compromise.
