You do NOT need to be lvl80 for PvE if you love and enjoy Competitive PvP matches!
PvP is a separate game from PvE, however, you could level your PvE character by just enjoying PvP since you love it so much.
1500 Glory = 1 Tomb of Knowledge = level up for PvE
The only reason to lvl up in PvE is so you can explore higher level areas, doing contents you already enjoy that PvE has to offer.
In the end, do what’s fun the most for you and progress that way!

followed Falunel’s advice and it works great.
That is awesome to hear man!!!
^^ I’m glad it’s working out well for ya!!!
If you wish to game with me sometime, feel free to add me on Skype too!

There are no Controller Supports for this game.
However, I use a program called Xpadder which allows me to emulate keyboard and mouse into the xbox360 controller.
I’ve been playing GW2 since beta with the xbox360 controller, and it’s very effective as long as your own layouts allow it to be.
=) I wish you the best.
Turn down your post-processing and shaders, and adjust the “Effects LOD” settings to lowest. It’s not going to remove everything, but it’ll cut down on a lot of bloom and light. I’d also recommend turning down everything else in zergs to reduce lag, which is more of a danger than excessive spell effects in WvW.
WvW itself, I find, is more of a matter of practice. I’ve been in a few 100v100 fights and haven’t had issues with targeting, but it’s probably because I’m desensitized to the stuff that goes on and able to sort out what is what. And also because I go into a sort of trance where my whole focus is staying on the commander like white on rice, and everything kind of follows. (Also, you actually don’t want all spell effects turned off, since you’ll want to be able to see friendly combo fields for blasting, know when you’re about to walk into a hostile Static Field, or know that the reason you’re getting hammered is because someone cast a Feedback on you. Older games tend not to rely so much on sight identification and positioning of effects.)
Yeah I think I have to agree with Falunel.7645 solution!
I cannot find another way to do it unfortunantly.
See if her suggestion helps.
Thank you for the information. The reason why I would to like to reach level 80 as fast as possible is because my guild is wanting to do events, however they would like me to be 80 so I can participate in them, since it would make things easier and allow us to explore more.
You say “Events” but what do you mean by that?
“Events” = Dynamic Events
“Hearts” = Heart Tasks
“Vista” = Vista challenge
“Dungeons” = Dungeons
etc.
Your guildies and friends can play with you by exploring areas appropriate at your level.
They can enjoy doing events with you as you guys progress together.
By exploring to lower level areas, your level is scaled down so you can still get rewarded by playing with friends regardless of the level.
If there is a specific content you plan on doing, like a lvl80 dungeon, You do not need to worry about it. You can start doing dungeons at lvl30 and gain experience how dungeons work as you progress.
Not sure what else to say.
Thanks, but I was wondering what things in the game provide the most xp?
Dynamic events and Dungeons.
and World boss.
But just do everything and you’ll enjoy the game and level fast.
Keep in mind, being lvl80 only means you can explore higher level areas doing contents you’ve been doing already while getting the weapons/armor skins you want.
Any reason why you are rushing?
Im not sure if you can do this, but I’ll try and find out for you right now!
Give me a moment…
Also another tip:
If you think about leveling, it takes longer!!! Trust me!
Just don’t think about it! =)
There is no reason to rush to lvl80.
When you become lvl30, you have access to do all contents the game offers you.
The point of lvling to 80 is so you have access to explore higher level areas doing the contents you enjoy while getting the Weapons/Armor skins you want!
Contents such as:
((Dynamic Events))
((Personal Story))
((Story Dungeons))
((Explorable Dungeons))
((Open World Dungeons))
((Fracticl of Mists))
((Jumping Puzzles))
((Vista Challenge))
((Skill Challenge))

((Guild Rush))
((Guild Challenges))
((Gatherings))
((Crafting))
((Super Adventure Box))
((Live Story Events))

etc.
There is literarily so much to do!
Just explore the game and have fun enjoying the GW2 experience!
If you wanted to tell newbies other ways to enjoy the game, you could of created a thread of your own or done so in a not so disruptive manor.
Don’t worry about it. I’m already working on it. =)
As for my post in this thread, I’m doing it to be heard. Forums are a place were people exchange information and have discussions.
I’m sorry you do not like my response.
Good luck to you.
If you are New to the game, Please Do NOT follow this guide or the (Train).
The (Train) is just another way for high levels to spam/grind contents repeatedly.
It’s Not an official way of playing the game. It’s an unofficial groups of players who try to do events in a certain order for the hecks of exp/rewards rather than actually experiencing the game as a whole.
For new players, I highly recommend to ignore the (Train) and explore the world, See what Tyria has to offer. You can get lots of exp and loot by just playing the game and having fun doing contents you love.Grinding/Spamming the same content is optional and yet, not required.
It is the BEST way to burn yourself out of the game, and the worst way to start getting into GW2.You experience all contents at lvl30, so there is no need to rush to lvl80.
The whole point of leveling in GW2, is so you can explore higher level areas, doing the contents you already love.Kill champions with friends or solo is fine and fun! But understand that the (Train) does not have authority to stop you or hate on you when you’re just playing the game. Enjoy the game for how it’s meant.

You would be that guide. This isn’t a guide telling people to do the train and not do anything else, this is a guide for people NEW TO THE TRAIN, aka: people who already decided they want to try train. No need to be a d**k, and I would appreciate it if you took down the post, since it has no reason to be here.
I disagree with you.
This is a sub-forum where new players will also come for information.
And this information you have provided may mislead new players in thinking that (Trains) are the Normal way of playing when playing the GW2 Experience.
The information I have provided in this thread simply guides newbies away from the (Train). Those who wish to do (Train) can do so as long as new players are informed in what the (Train) actually is.

I’m curious, how is a controller better for playing the game? I ask because I am a fuddy duddy who grew up before controller systems. A joystick with two whole buttons, one on the stick and one on the base, was a huge deal. When Portal came out I tried playing it and ended up having my husband handle the controls while I helped figure out the puzzles.
My main query, though, is what the heck you do when you want to type in chat. With keyboard/mouse I can quickly switch modes between movement/combat and text entry. I’m sort of imagining you flinging down the controller so you can /say something and then fumbling to pick it back up as a Risen jumps you.
First off, You could have your PC connected to your TV, and sit in the couch relaxing with the Controller, while having a keyboard rested on your lap if you so desire to type.
Second, You don’t need a mouse if your controller layout is good.
Here is my layout:
(Right Analog Stick) = Camera
(Left Analog Stick) = Movement
(Right Bumper) = Dodge
(A) = Skill1
(X) = Skill2
(Y) = Skill3
(B) = Skill4
(Right Trigger) – Skill5
(Left Bumper) while held down, (A) = Skill6
(Left Bumper) while held down, (X) = Skill7
(Left Bumper) while held down, (Y) = Skill8
(Left Bumper) while held down, (B) = Skill9
(Left Bumper) while held down, (Right Trigger) = Skill0
(Left-Dpad) = F1
(Up-Dpad) = F2
(Right-Dpad) = F3
(Down-Dpad) = F4
(Right Trigger) while held down, (X) = Target
(Right Trigger) while held down, (Y) = Swap Weapons
(Right Trigger) while held down, (B) = Cancel
(Right Trigger) while held down, (A) = Jump.
If I want to use the menu and the cursor, I press the (Start) button and my layouts change for easy to use menu and cursor.
Plus, I Skype for voice chat with friends while gaming, it’s easy either way.
=) You just need a good layout to do it well.
This video guide will show you how this game is skill based:
This other video guide will show you how this game is based on your playstyle and skill executions:

If this doesn’t explain it, then I don’t know what could.
Its broken for him cause cant get over the so called TRINITY! Gw2 was successful getting rid of this crap and it is working like intended.
lol Yeah, GW2’s combat has so much depth.
My videos and guide pretty much explains and shows that clearly. The problem is, you get players that come from other games like WoW and they expect it to play like it. GW2 is a game for people who want a different kind of game, not the same thing with different skin and title.
Its for people who want something New.
You mean a kind of game where there is only one way to gear and combat is reduced to stacking? When the only role is DPS, your profession is irrelevant. The highest DPS is taken, which is why warriors are so popular.
Yeah, Thank God GW2 is not like that game. =)
Its broken for him cause cant get over the so called TRINITY! Gw2 was successful getting rid of this crap and it is working like intended.

I AM THE FIRST PERSON TO USE A DUALSHOCK 4 FOR GUILD WARS 2!
Im going to assume it works now! ^-^ Congrats!
For the OP:
Watch GW2 Combat System 101 Video:
Watch HOW-TO-Build-Your-Class Video:
Now you understand how the combat works. The system is NOT Broken, it’s different from other MMORPGs. Either learn to play it and enjoy it for what it is, or you could always play other games that suits your needs better.
Good luck!

I downloaded xpadder and a gw2 layout for it. I can’t open the layout on xpaddee and I can’t get either to work with gw2
Close Xpadder completely and the Game.
Right Click Xpadder and Open as Admin.
Right Click GW2 and Open as Admin.
This should solve your problem. Give it a try.
But you might need to restart your PC since I don’t think there is a way to quit Xpadder. lol
I downloaded some drivers and my laptop is now recognizing my DS4 controller as a 360 controller (woohoo). The pre-installed games like minesweeper and chess are working like a charm but GW2 still isn’t working with it. What am I missing?
Your Xpadder is not working?
Just run around maps uncovering them and doing the heart quests, just avoid the toxic champ farmers in Queensdale. Once you get 80 you can continue your farming and grinding for top tier armor/weapons followed by creating alts to repeat the same old content over and over again. Welcome to Guild Wars 2.
You don’t need to farm and grind in GW2 to get the same rewards.
Just by playing the game and enjoying the content you love is enough to get you places you need to be.
If you Hate yourself, grind away!
It’s the best way to burn yourself out of the game.
The thing that makes GW2 special is, Grinding is optional and not needed.
Exotics is all you need and are easy to obtain, the rest is all about having fun getting the skins you want.
I highly recommend you to NEVER use PS3 or PS4 controllers for PC gaming.
While these controllers are truly awesome in their console counterparts, Windows PC is designed by Microsoft and they HATE Sony… So Sony Controllers will have issues or problems setting up on the PC since it’s Never designed for it.
I Highly recommend the Xbox360 Controller because it was designed to work with PC Windows natively. All Controller friendly PC games support Xbox360 controller. Just Plug & Play!!! No hassle needed!
GW2 does not support any Controllers, But since you are using Xpadder like I am, then it will work as long as your layouts are done well.
The problem is, with Xpadder, your analog sticks will not be recognized from the PS3 or PS4 controller. Again, need to go through another 3rd party program (Hassle) to make it work but will never work as well as Xbox Controller in the end.
I recommend you buy Xbox360 controller for PC. That way, Xpadder and other controller friendly support games on PC will be a plug & play solution!
Good luck!
I Play on the Xbox360 Controller.

The Best PvE class is the class you enjoy the most. The class your best at!
Everyone has their opinion on what they think is best class for PvE since they are good at what they love.
But it’s a fact, that all classes are viable and can be enjoyed by different types of players.
Just keep in mind, when asking for “what’s the best class?”, you’re asking everybody what they enjoy best. That doesn’t mean you might enjoy the same thing.
You are really helpfull, Ill add you once ive finished downling the game (so big -.-)
Yay!!! New friends to play with!
Be sure to download Skype so we can voice chat kay?
More fun that way!
So, I bought GW2 a year ago or so and didnt play it much because all my friends shifted from MMOs to MOBAs (LoL), anyway now im back, it has been a looong time and I remember only few things,
-I was a rogue and solo questing (1-20) was a pain in the kitten , I died or was forced to back way too much, not very enjoyable.
-The Spvp was fun with rogue tho.Since the game balance and meta changed alot for sure in one year, can you guys tell me whats the best class for solo quest and Spvp?
I prefer melee classes (or ranger, I love bows, I even built one irl), and by “best class in Spvp” I dont mean OP-faceroll-1v5 class, I mean a class that gets kills, Ill be playing this game for fun, not hardcore, so basically I just want a easy time questing and scoring kills in Spvp.
Can you guys help me choosing a class? :P
Personally Ive been thinking of ranger for questing (based on WoW, questing as hunter was really smooth) but I know nothing of Ranger in PvP.
I am Playing GW2 right now!
Get online and I’ll help you out with everything personally!

See you in game!
I watched the vids and read your guide, it was helpful. From watching your combat demos i really think necromancer and mesmers look pretty devastating and fun. Those are the two classes I think I’m going to focus on when I get my laptop here in about 2 weeks. I ordered it today but its gonna take awhile since its custom built
Hey!!! Let’s level together when you get your laptop! ^-^
Feel free to add me on Skype and let me know whenever you ready!
I enjoy leveling and playing with new people all the time! ^-^
I play on The Xbox360 Controller. ^-^
Here is a 30 second video on me using it for combat:
I cannot play the game on keyboard & Mouse, however, I do enjoy playing it on the Xbox360 controller
I think the best way to play GW2 is the way you enjoy playing it.
And everybody has their own layouts when it comes to that.
(edited by DreamyAbaddon.3265)
I think I’m most interested in Thief, Mesmer, and Necromancer.
First, I want to wish you a Happy New years! ^-^ And Welcome back to GW2!
Best way to level up in GW2 like always, is to just play the contents you enjoy. No need to grind kitten unless you hate yourself that much.
I’m always happy to level and play with new people, so feel free to add me in game.

This is the best help I can give you.
Good luck!
Since you’re using the forum to ask a question, I think you might want to hear some opinions. Therefore I’ll cut out all the “play how you want, it’s important you’re having fun bla bla” and give you my opinion on shamans gear, okay? Okay.
Remove it from the game.
Here you go. Vitality is a bad stat. Healingpower is not that great, too. No toughness to protect this big hp pool. And conditiondamage is useless in PvE. Probably the worst gear you can get.
I hope you don’t mind the harsh tone too much, but I just can’t stand answers like the one from DreamyAbaddon.
Actually, Your opinion to me has little to no value.
All stats are in fact, important.
To say Condition Damage is useless in PvE is naïve. I use it in PvE and dungeons and it helps tons if that’s where you damage output is coming from.
To say Vitality is useless is also insane. Considering Vitality gives you more health to begin with, while toughness gives you the chance to take less damage.
Also, it’s NOT useless, if it was, it wouldn’t be in the game.
Get your facts straight… These Stats are very great for any build that needs it, however, if the build and playstyle does not need it, Then it becomes useless.
That is why Playstyle Comes first, Build comes next, and Armor/Stats is last.
You wont know what stats you need till you know how your playstyle plays in the first place.
Yeah, I would gladly do that if there was a sandbox server where I could test it. I.E get full ascended gear and go pve/pvp without having to spend thousands of gold on it. I wouldn’t have copy pasted someone elses build either. I would’ve just seen there are possibilities, possibly copy paste the build and then change it as I went a long and felt what would be better and what wouldn’t.. I suppose?
There are other ways to do things.
Also you need to know gear isn’t even as important than Skills and traits.
Anyways, My Skype info is: DreamyAbaddon
Feel Free to add me if you want some help. =)
I don’t recommend you copying and pasting other people’s builds.
Do you think you need those stats? Are you lacking Vitality and Healing/Conditions?
Do you think it would help any of your current builds and playstyles?
If the answer is “Yes”, then it’s useful.
If the answer is “No”, then it’s useless.
Test it out and see for yourself. See what builds you come up with.
Then you judge how it plays for how you play.
I played WoW for 6 years. Now im into GW2, which is so close, yet so different. I have a few questions.
1. I was a PVPer and loved battlegrounds and arenas. Can someone explain what I need to focus on to get on the right track to do these things on GW2?
2. I maxed out all professions in WoW. Do I need to craft things to level professions in GW2 as well? As a elementalist, which profession would be best to learn?
3. Talent points… Do I need to save them up or spend them as I get them?
Hey, Abbadon!
I’m… DreamyAbaddon!!! lol

My Guide has been Updated & Upgraded with a new video!
Check it out! ^-^ Let me know what you all think.
Added:
How-To-Build-Class (Video)
Restructured the Written Guide & Video Orders.
Not sure if I am to late for the party but I would love to see new weapon sets added for each proffesion.
This is going to happen. I remember watching a video on a Developer interview where Colin mentioned that’s the first thing they will work on Before adding new professions into the game. Since more variety of playstyles is what they are looking for.
Okie… Anyone have any ideas regarding the return of Cantha? =)
This thread has being going on for a while and I’m interested to know…
Thanks!
I want to say “Thank You” to Everybody who has given their honest feedback comments.
I’ve notice that my Written guide version regarding (Weapons) (Traits) & (Armor) confuses some of you out there.
I’m currently working on Upgrading my guide by adding a Video Version regarding that topic. This new video I’m working on will give everyone the visual explanation needed for my visual learners out there.
I will also be working on Updating my written version in relations to this topic because the video version will SHOW most of it. But fear not, I will write the small details down on the Written version for you readers out there to continue to follow.
Thank you all again for the support,
You are all the reasons why I put passionate work on perfecting my guide. <3
more like warrior tanking then?
You will get destroyed face-tanking… On any class in chaotic, intense situations.
The game’s mechanic is different in regards to combat.
There are No dedicated, Tanks, Healers or DPS roles.
This is a different kind of MMO. =) Which I’d be happy to teach you.
Feel free to add me in game and on Skype.

any suggestions for making this build better?
Thanks for all the helping

Sounds like your problem is…
You don’t know how to make your own builds work so you copy and paste other people’s builds in hoping it would work against others…
Best players at PvP tend to never share their builds online since others could find a way to counter their builds too easy.
I could help you learn to make builds work in your favor, however, I wont give you my build. lol
Feel free to contact me in game or Skype.

I never understand threads like this. There is an entire world of adventure out there, areas you’ve never seen full of events and people to save. What the dynamic scaling of levels buys you is the ability to leave a zone when you want to, you aren’t pushed out because nothing there will give you XP or decent loot and it keeps those zones dangerous to you. It’s up to you to choose to finish all the content in the zone now or come back later to do it. Sure if you are now an exoticed, skill and trait out level 80 coming back you may wonder how one of those critters were so much trouble before since now it takes 3 or 4 to become worrisome. Plus you can play with friends who rolled a new character without you needing to roll a new character as well.
MMOs should never have evolved into a race to max out your character to get to the “end content”. This game tries to break that mold by keeping every zone challenging forever. The majority of an MMO shouldn’t be “leveling through” country, only needing to return if you choose to roll a new character.
You nailed it!
Champ trains in zones, even in their current form, are a broken reward system. It hooks new players into a play style that shouldn’t be rewarded as much as it is. It’s poisonous to the game and the OP is an example why it’s poisonous. Why should you leave the starter zone? Because the rest of the game is out there, that’s why. You shouldn’t have to rely on the game to give you a reason to leave.
The whole point in leveling up in GW2 PvE is to be able to explore higher level areas doing contents you enjoy while getting awesome looking skins for your Armor and Weapons.
Contents you might like such as:
Personal Story
Dynamic Events
Hearts
Minigames

You’re endgame could be anything!
Maybe your endgame is to Master all the Jumping Puzzles and make Guild Races and rewards for the winner?
Maybe your endgame is to Master every dungeons and paths?
Maybe your endgame is being the best you can be in Fractacal?
Maybe your endgame is competitive PvP?
Maybe your endgame is WvWvW and you wana be a Commander who wants to lead squads for veries objectives?
I DONT KNOW What Your Endgame is going to be, since it could be anything that You enjoy as a player!
