Going to pass on any new personal story unless the design is vastly different. If it remains similar even slightly to the current style of the personal story I won’t bother doing it. I’ve already done Trahearne’s personal story for him, so I suppose I’ll just let him do it himself in any continuation.

Yeah, I’d like to see the personal story return, but the truth of things is that the personal story is god awful. I mean, it’s not bad for the first two parts, but as soon as you start moving towards the ‘orders’ it gets crippling boring.

It’s really only the two parts of the personal story that are actually personal, as far as I can tell… after that the paths keep merging into one thing.

What made the Personal Story epic was from lvl1-20 in my opinion.
They are totally personal and this is exactly what I want with improved cinematic presentation while branching the story with different choices you make.

The Personal Story as a whole, is much better than the Living Story’s system when it comes to story presentation.

Do you prefer the Living Story or the Personal Story when it comes to actually enjoying a story with mission structure that you can play at your own time?

I can’t believe majority of people don’t want Personal Stories to return.
It was a better platform to give good challenges and story telling than Living Story content.

LOL! So one person posts on your thread and you think the majority are against? The majority apparently don’t come to forums, and if they do they don’t post.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Personal Story shaken up a bit. I enjoyed Living Story 1 and am looking forward to Living Story 2. So I want both!

Okay so you got a point.
But still, why isn’t posts about Personal Story ever get popular on the forums at least?

It seems people talk about Living Stories more because that’s what they want instead.
ArenaNet will add and priorities what people want and the forums help them see that.

I might as well change the title of this post to:
“Do people even want (Personal Stories) anymore?”

Because nobody seems to want to discuss about this topic.

Dunno. Maybe Personal Story is too old news? Or when you posted this originally there was something else that caught imaginations. Let’s see how it goes this time around.

The thing is, they could make a Personal Story Expansion pack and sell it in the gem store and unlock new zones with Living Story.

Living Story Platform works well as a filler but not as a main method of telling a good, complex and deep story telling. Personal Story, however, actually does well at this.

How good is Living Story?

in Living World

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

Ah, not bad.
I found the scenes in the Dead End Bar esp good, but I always find those little moments of character building to be enjoyable.

The living story has come a long way since the early days, but it’s temporary nature still holds it back. There were several important character building moments I missed out on due to moving, and now they are effectively lost to me forever.
That is just terrible design. Hands down.

Thou if the living story content were to sometime after the fact be turned into personal story instances, that would pretty much solve the issue. Say after each season, you go back and boil it down into personal story instances, I think that would be great, hours of more content to work through.

Because otherwise your always going to run into the problem of new players being locked out of the story of this world, with no way to catch back up.
(as well as making the world smaller for it)

See, I’ve been trying to suggest ArenaNet and the playerbase that expanding our Personal Stories would be a better idea since adding Story in the Living World would lock out other players from knowing what’s happening.

I think they should focus on Dynamic Events changing the world and shaping it up with little story involved, while focusing on expanding Personal stories and choices by keeping them perminant, can bring good replay ability down the table. Also add more Jumping puzzles. lol

So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

The main issue is temporarily content should never have a Story.
I think they should expand the Personal Story to deliver good missions and story execution so players with limited time wont miss out on what’s happening while enjoying the content they play for.

Living Stories however, should just evolve into complex Dynamic Events that changes and shapes the world overtime, but keep story away or limit it to just NPC talking a few lines.

I would HATE to see the new elder dragon to be part of a Living Story where new players who started after the dragon is slaying would miss out.

how do you lock onto your target?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

I still loose target, with auto-target off. As I said, I’ve tried every possible setting in target option menu, and standing still, with the mob in front of me I still loose target and stop attacking from time to time.
Its most annoying when I have to deal with a group of enemies, it can be hard to see if I am attacking or not, so I keep auto-targeting on so I dont stop, but that means I attack all at the same time, and dont take them down one by one. And the group is often a result of not staring at the targets healthbar so I dont see when the target switch and I pull mobs from all over.
About the positioning, Im not sure how that works anymore, because it doesnt always help standing behind the target. This is something I have noticed before, but the last month or so its almost no point trying to avoid, I get hit no matter where I stand.
I do think it has something with lag/connection to do, as framerate is going down and loadingscreens take longer and longer. It could be on my end, but only gw2 has changed, everything else I do on my pc/internet seems the same.

Then kitten , I don’t know what to say.
I never had this issue before.

I wish I could offer a better solution but im afraid I got none to offer at this point. =(

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

Okaaay…
I can see a lot of people have this issue but I never noticed it nor has it actually happened to me…

I’m curious as to why?

Is it possible you’re not facing the target when attacking? Generally if your character is facing away from the target, you won’t hit target at all, so it’s possible that your attks will hit somewhere else and the auto-target might change target because of it.

If this statement above is true, then the target is working as intended, however, if it’s false, then I am not sure what to say.

Positioning is Key in GW2’s combat. So movement & dodge is vital to whether your attacks hit or miss.

DreamyAbaddon.3265

Unlike most games, it’s different for different people. If you’re interested in challenging content and nothing else, end game is dungeons (and soloing dungeons for some people), Fractals, WvW and for some SPvP tournaments.

But different people have different end game. Some grind for legendaries and that’s their end game. Some go for achievements and try to get every point. Some are just altoholics. A lot of people farm money to completely their “look”.

What there isn’t is one standard end game that everyone does.

^ This pretty much.

My Endgames are:
Mastering all Jumping Puzzles
Mastering Guild Missions.
Theorycrafting new Skills/builds for all 8 classes
Mastering Dungeons
Having fun repeating Story Dungeons
Personal stories with my alts & friends
WvW (Sometimes)
PvP with friends

and yeah, playing with friends with those contents above.
Those are my Endgame.

Dueling in gw2! Remember?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

The problem with dueling is, it wont be skill based or competitive.
Because the player who has the best PvE gear and access to all traits and skills will have an advantage to change tactics against the player who doesn’t.

Most people I know who take PvP seriously wont duel anyways, unless it’s in the sPvP arena where all players are truly equal in terms of having access to everything they need to strategies against their opponent.

You make it sound like getting access to all traits and skills is hard o_O

^-^ My bad…
What I’m trying to say is, most PvP players I know only care about competitive PvP in equal grounds that they wont care about getting all that stuff from PvE in the first place. It can be very hard for a PvP player to play PvE contents he/she does not enjoy.

There for, dueling already happens in t-PvP arenas because of the accessibility to get right into the game rather than having to play contents you might not like just to do one that you do.

Not sure if that helped clear what I was saying or not.

Edit: And the fact that anyone can do that, kinda means it’s pointless to add dueling, is what Im getting at.

Hey everyone!
So Living Story Season-1 has ended!
Hurray!!!!!!!!!!

Now does this mean ArenaNet will release or work on extending Personal Story for this year? I think so!

What I hope to see on the next, extended version of our Personal story is more Personal story about our characters and past choices we made to reflect on it from were we left off.

Think along the lines, level 1-20 PS where every mission was different for each character choices you made, but getting this content every 2 weeks permanently.

A good, indepth story should be told in 2 methods, Personal Story & Story Dungeons.
This is why I bought GW2.

Dynamic Events should be filler story, the story of the world & lore which you explore. I like this, however, the Living Story tries to merge, Dynamic Events, Personal Story, and Story Dungeon into 1 huge temporarily content which we wont get to play again. And for some new players who enjoy playing for the story, gets frustrated to get into the world.

So will we see Personal Stories 2014 (Begin?)
I think so!
I hope so!
Do you?

Sadly this seems to be the case with quite a few guilds. I was in a guild and got booted because (im guessing) i did not log on for 2 weeks. i was in the hospital at that time and even did my best to post it on their forums on my crappy smart phone. when i came back i was blocked from communication to the leader so i will never find out. all you can do is shrug and remember that not every one plays to have fun some want to be the best at everything and those people tend to quit games quickly when they find you cant be the best at everything.

But you have to remember, there are those who claim they just want to have fun and still give you that same result you mentioned.

It’s like you said, I guess we’ll never know for sure.

I was also kicked & blocked from a guild without a reason as well…
The guild was called: Dolosus Syndicate

They have Rules that I obviously did NOT break.
Rules such as, No sexism, No Racism, and being respectful.
I was told it was a family-friendly guild and we log on to play together for fun.

I contributed to the Guild site, joined on some guild events, and had fun playing with these guys. They were really nice to me as I was to them. After a week, I was kicked from the guild, blocked, banned from their TS3 server and their Guild site which I worked hard to contribute in. Oh, and all my posts got removed too. Huh???

The explination I got was: “Most people were complaining about you.”
What exactly is there to complain about me? lol That I’m shy on TeamSpeak when multiple people talk to me? I was never offensive to anyone.

Point is, don’t bother with trying to get back into guilds like that…
If a guild does that to you, then it’s most likely corrupted and you defiantly don’t want to take part it.

You are better off moving on.
I am sorry this has happened to you.

Maguum vs Tarnish Coast - Question

in WvW

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

Tarnish Coast server is a higher Teir for WvW… however, the big issue I’m having with it is that the commanders are focusing on defensive play and that doesn’t give as much as Experience points compared to actually taking Camps and Towers.

My question is, does Maguum Server focus on getting camps and towers?
I do wish to level up through WvW but so far, it’s way to slow and boring in TC.

If you’re from Maguum, I’m interested to hear what you have to say.
If you’ve been in both servers, I’m listening.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: Which Server should I go to?
I would also like to go back to TC later but I am worried after 2 weeks, it might get full since many guilds seem to jump into that server lately.

Is GW2 Fun Yet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

I bought GW2 on release, grinded to 80, and tried out the endgame. And while the levelling was fun, the game featured no endgame PvE, exotic gear that you have to grind for hours for tiny stat boosts, and a completely broken dungeon system. The PvP itself was so unbalanced as to not be any fun, along with no gear to be earned in structured PvP whatsoever. Have they added ANYTHING worth hitting level 80 in the year and a half?

I played GW2 since Beta and I think it’s still hella fun!

Endgame theoretically begins at lvl2 when you start exploring the world and doing contents you enjoy, but technically begins at lvl30 since that’s when you can do everything such as Dungeons & Fractals.

Grinding is the worst way to get into the GW2 experience and the Best way to burn yourself out of it.

This game is even more fun when you play with friends.

If you do not wish to do AP then don’t, however, they will be done naturally so nothing to worry about there.

Also, anyone who judges you based on your AP is an idiot.

I have taught new players lots of things in game and they have low AP but play better than those with more APs.

APs do not determine how skilled you are, it only determines how much grind you did.
You want to play with players who will judge you based on your skills, but most importantly, players who will have fun playing with you along the way.

Any class can be useful in all types of content if you’re good at that class. That being said, some classes by default are better than others at certain content. For example, guardian mesmer and warrior are extremely good in dungeon groups because of the mix of damage and utility that they offer. Does that mean that the other classes are bad? No, they just offer less raw DPS and make fights slightly longer. Only speedrunners care about your class.

Any class can be built any way. Your character’s gear type will be the biggest factor in determining their playstyle. The reason I say this is because I main ele. In WvW and zerging in PVE I run glass cannon staff. In sPVP and when I want to skirmish in WvW I use d/d and run with toughness vitality gear and go for longer battles where I outlast my opponent with ridiculous healing and condition removal. This is just an example of one class. The playstyle of each class will most likely change depending on your armor stats and the weapons you choose to use. Obviously I’m a bit biased towards the ele, but I have and 80 of all chars but ranger (40) and engi (2) and I can help you pick a class if you want.

I just wanted to point out:
You forgot to mention (Traits) which is a huge factor on enhancing and building your playstyle as well.

Everyone is bias when it comes to their own playstyles, nothing wrong with that since it means everyone has their favorite way of playing their class.

I personal feel it’s best to allow new players to discover their own unique play style by experimenting and play testing their classes and builds in HotM.

He is a fast learner by the way… =) Can’t wait to see what he’ll become, I know I’m excited.

Eight player parties?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

To me, you see quite desperate in trying to get 8 person parties. Maybe if you weren’t so aggressive and sarcastic to the others on this forum, more people would be willing to reply to your idea positively.

IMO the party limit is fine. I’ve never really thought much about it and it really hasn’t been an issue for me. I imagine that this is the case for most players as well considering most people have replied that there isn’t no need for 8 person parties.

Yes, they would be nice for some, but not for others. I play on a less populated server and don’t always like guesting to other servers. A party limit increase would make it more difficult for me to fill my party with players to do dungeons and fractals.

TBH there is no need for 8 person parties. That fact alone is reason for them to not put them in the game.

This is something that would make it easier for some players. Some players would be happy. Anet wants to please as many people as possible though. So they will add things that make people happy. Like more detailed and better LS and more skills.

I agree with this.

[Proposal] Increase # of Skills.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

The amount of skills we have per weapon set is fine. They just need to be somewhat equally useful.
And we need to have more weapons available for the proffessions, like giving greathammers to engineers, rifles to elementalists and nerfbats to warriors.

Having 100 skills on the screen is a pain in the eye.
Don’t believe me? This used to be my UI in WoW before I polished it:

Every single spell was keybinded.

Oh I wasn’t asking to use 15 weapon skills at the same time. I was asking for 15 weapons skill to choose from, and we pick 5 to use.

I was just about to argue with your Original post until I scrolled down and read this.

I agree with this idea. lol
Changing weapon skill like utility skill on the same weapon set would be interesting.

But it would be hard to balance. I think I might be more in favor of more weapon choices instead for the sake of proper balance.

Eight player parties?

Why only five party slots in dungeons/fractals?

I bought copies of the game for myself, fiancé, and two best friends, assuming we’d all be able to enjoy the game together.

Four of us manage fine in the afore mentioned “instances”, but when we try bringing in two more people, somebody has to sit it out.

I don’t want to hear any rubbish about how “eight party slots don’t work with the current system.” Or, “go play WvW.” That’s bullkitten. Not everyone likes WvW. You made eight slots possible with Guild Wars 1. How hard can it possibly be to make this happen in Guild Wars 2?

I expected this kind of back peddling from EA when the new SimCity (smaller city sizes) came out. But not you, ArenaNet. I thought you were better than that.

With how the Combat System plays out,
The more players you have, the easier it is.

5 players is the perfect balance for instance because it’s not too many players which makes the dungeon easy, and it’s not a low number of players that makes it almost impossible.

When you got less people, it becomes more challenging because of less screw-ups.
More players means more screw-ups is acceptable.

They did a big forum re-shuffle a while ago which involved archiving some sections and adding new ones.

I’m not 100% sure, but going by the fact that you’ve only just noticed they’re gone and each one only had about 1 topic created per week I’d guess they were archived because they didn’t get enough activity to justify a whole section.

It doesn’t mean they’re not supporting the Personal Story or Dynamic Events any more, or not going to develop new ones. Forum management and game development are two different things. It just means discussions on these topics should be placed elsewhere from now on.

hmmm… Interesting. Though I like to know what the official word is from ArenaNet to be sure.

Why is PS & DE Forums on Archive?

Why is the Personal Story Forum & Dynamic Events Forum under Archive?

Does this mean ArenaNet is no longer going to focus on adding more Personal Stories and Dynamic Events?

Is this because they want to mainly focus on Living Story?
What do you guys think?

I’m clueless.

Ok heres my problem i have a level 80 Mesmer which is asura, i want a lev 80 Mesmer human is it worth my time and effort to level it up or should i just stick with my current one. (the main reason i want to change is appearance wise and if any of you have some asura light armor combos i would be willing to have a look).

Yes! It’s okie!

Reason #1 – Because you get different appearance
Reason #2 – Because you get to experience different Personal Story
Reason #3 – Because you enjoy the class soo much, You don’t care!
Reason #4 – Because it’s fun!

=) Go for it!

I have a very useful suggestion for everybody that is fed up with the commanders in PvE and their attitude of being a 5 year old:
Right click -> Block -> Silence and Peace.

Works so wonderfully when you just block every commander tag on sight. And it makes Tyria a better place as well

What would work better is if you block a player who has commander tag, their tag is blocked as well so you cannot see them on map.

Sometimes you just don’t want to see that player anymore. lol
If you know what I mean? =P

Dude… you sucked hard with the daggers… Dual Dagger is a lot more then your video showed.
For the new elementalists, know that Dual Dagger is a great weapon spec. Talk to me in game if you need some tips.
The idea of these videos was nice, but try to show the real side from both specs…

Considering I barely took damage, and executed my skills perfectly when needed…
I think I did pretty kitten good in my opinion.

However, I must confess, I’m not running dagger build. =)
These videos are more of a demonstrations on how the skills work on both Daggers and Staff. New players can decide which playstyle appeals to them the most by just watching the video.

I dont have time to watch em. Can i get a summary?

If you don’t have time to watch 2 videos wich are 30 seconds… Then you don’t have time to respond and make a comment… Which you did anyways. =/

No, the summary is on the videos.
Short and simple presentation visually for all to see.

Sorry if this sounds rude. Not sure how to be nice about it.

Edit: The thread is asking the community which video they like best in combat when looking at Daggers & Staff.

Based on this type of reply, i didn’t even bothered on clicking on those links anymore. Good job op….

Not my problem… =)
