GW2 has a short Vertical Progression because it’s focus is primarily on
Horizontal Progression.

Vertical Progression = Leveling up, and getting Exotics

Horizontal Progression = Unlocking Skills, Unlocking Traits, Creating new builds, Unlocking Armor skins, Unlocking Weapon Skins, Unlocking New Dyes, etc.

The concept of Vertical Progression is:
You start with an Apple, and you work on getting a Bigger Apple each time.

The concept of Horizontal Progression is:
You start with an Apple, you obtain an Orange but you dont like the Organe so you stick with the Apple. Then you get a Strawberry and you like it and you decide to mix the Apple and Strawbbery together until you get a Bannana which works better with the mix to make Strawberry & Bannana Shake, etc.

Because GW2 is focused more on Horizontal Progression, it gets rid of gear gated content thanks to no gear-treadmill.

You can pretty much do anything you want for your endgame!

Your endgame could be anything:

((Jumping Puzzle))
((Story Dungeons))
((Explorable Dungeons))
((Fractals))
((WvWvW))
((PvP))
((Minigames))
((Living Story))
((Personal Story))
((Crafting))
((Gathering))
((Map Completion))
((Fractals))
((Getting Legandarys))
etc…

You name it!

Endgame Started at lvl2 in theory but technically begins at lvl30 when you can do all types of content including Dungeons/Fractals.

Since you’re lvl80, you can still continue doing content you love and enjoy as your endgame and even work on your Legendary! Just have fun like you always have!

The best time to start PvP is right now when you’re new to the game.
The reason I say this is because you need to take advantage of all skills/traits and stat combination it gives you so you can experiment and practice your skills and strategy against other players.

Jumping vistas has no cooldown timer, and not all players choose to do them. Not even for map completion.

I only recently got mine, btw, after 2.5k+ gamehours. I took the time to do them, as I need time to position my char and carefully look at positions. (sidenote: I myself “train” this also in LA for example; the three pillars next to the TP near mystic forge being one spot to do so.)

Yes, Anet can make dungeon-/ boss fights which involves jumping. Until now I am not forced to jump. No idea what the future brings.

It’s perfectly fine if someone likes the jumping stuff in this game; there are players who do not. And for some Anet now effectively locks players out of the new content, by making jumping mandatory. Without thinking of alternatives.

Maybe it’s the tight budget they spoke about on that last video, I do not know.

By all means, tie more things together but don’t limit creativity for those minority who are disabled and unable to do simple mechanics like a simple jump…

‘Screw the “crippled” as long as I get my dose of GW2.’

I really hope this is not the attitude Anet will show.

Games shouldn’t be played by handicaps unless they can figure a work around to play them. But games like gw2 also shouldnt revolve around them either.

I have no desire repeating stuff what has been said several times by now. Do your homework and get your facts straight.

And yet there were major story parts of LS1 that was “locked” behind using Aspects (in a much higher amount than the current one) how was that more optional than this was?
I have never actually gotten any answer to that question.

You won’t get an asnwer to that question because there isn’t one.
You also still need to do jumping with Vistas too if you want to do map completions so if you don’t want to do jumping then you can forget that.

It’s nice when things are optional but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t tie together.
They can make creative dungeons, boss fights that require jumping and dodging and they have, and I hope more is required to keep game skill based with variation instead of keeping things separate. Jumping Puzzles meets Dungeons & Story can create more creative challenges and possibilities which I welcome.

By all means, tie more things together but don’t limit creativity for those minority who are disabled and unable to do simple mechanics like a simple jump…

More dynamic mechanics and game play is better.

If you can’t do simple jumps then maybe you shouldn’t be playing this game…
Dumbing the game down by removing fun and interesting mechanics for a few people who are disabled would make the game boring for the majority.

They need more elements like this to make exploring and discovering more interesting. This isn’t your traditional MMORPG.

I also dont agree with jumping should be optional.
That’s like saying using dodging should be optional, No it shouldn’t. It’s part of the game mechanic and there for should be used as part of the game as a whole for new and interesting challenges and experiences that the devs can make for us.

There are other static MMOs like World of Warcraft if you don’t want dynamics in a game.

DreamyAbaddon.3265

@Emperor.1360:

I play on 8 classes and have 5 builds per class.
That’s 40 different types of builds and playstyles I have created and I played since beta.

While PvP is something I do for fun, I’m more of a PvE player and It’s safe to say I’m more then qualified to teach new players and veterans how combat and builds work.

You may not like how this guide is presented or it may conflict your idea of so called metas but the FACT is, lots of players who had issues with combat and simply died to much are now dying way less and play more effective now than ever by their own standards, not mine or yours. Just go read what other people are saying in my guide and that should give you an idea of what I mean.

This guide teaches new players all they need to know regarding how to make their own builds by choose skills/traits and stats they need. It doesn’t tell them what builds to choose that other’s made. While it may still need some minor improvements here and there, this guide has evolved since it’s first release and it will continue to evolve when I have more time to work on it.

Most stuffs sound legit, but…

Can you explain number #6? Its contradicting with #2.

’#11 is a little bit too late (like 15 months) but better than never, I guess.

Not a contradiction at all.
Living Story is based on episodes like instanced which the players will continue after their personal story which expands the game while the open world content is non-instanced based which evolves the game.

The story content is instanced based while the open world content is just based on the theme of that episode.

I hope this helps

ArenaNet has recently announced how they are changing the Living World Season 2 and the future seasons with the introduction of Story Journal. This is great news! I have NEVER been excited for Living Story and was a huge advocate for it until now, and here is why:

#1. Living Story is a continuation of our Personal Story,

#2. Living Story content is separated from our open world contents even though they share the same theme.

#3. Living Story content is permanent and are repayable.

#4. You can unlock the Living Story Episode by logging in game for free.

#5. You never have to finish the Story Content during the 2 week open window anymore!

#6. Living World will continue to expand more and evolve the game world in the open world as we know.

#7. Meta-achievements are going to be removed and replaced with hardcore contents to earn achievements by repeating Living story episodes with higher difficulty

#9. You can take a break from the game, come back in a year and have tons to do without missing anything…

#10. Festivals and Holiday events are temporarily contents however they are no longer tied to the Living World Story.

#11. level 80 requirement is awesome. Now ArenaNet can focus on making endgame quality content and give more incentive for playing at higher levels!

ArenaNet, this is AWESOME!!!

Please check out the official post for more details regarding these aswesome changes here:

GW2 is currently at a situation where while it is still mildly popular (just mildly),
it is no longer the flagship or most important valuable product to parent company NCSoft. Wildstar currently holds that title.

I found Wildstar to be extremely boring. Stupid linear quests that lead you by hand without much fun or freedom, lame combat system…

Hopefully more people will come back to gw2 just like they came after latest wow expansions.

Thanks for the feedback guys…
I guess my love for this game is dying if this keeps up…

When ArenaNet doesnt respond to posts like this, it makes me worried about the future of the game.

I guess FF11, FF14 and SWTOR are the only MMOs I know that continue taking Story telling seriously in an epic adventure through missions and exploring… Only problem with those games is Combat sucks… and no Jumping Puzzles and such content I liked from GW2. I dont play games just for story, I play games with good story and gameplay together.

Nah, they seldom respond to posts like this.
Anyway gw2 isn’t such a bad game tbh. at least its not as stupid as SWTOR where you literally must pay to even wear epic gear i think.

It is however not a conventional mmo, think of it as a very casual mmo, where it encourages you to have alts and doll up your avatar in nice mix and match armors.
Oh, if you like wvw zerging, gw2 can be fun for you.

If you don’t hold too much hope for gw2, you will be happier.
Just treat it as an mmo, that you can come back to play anytime with no subs and obligations to pay for anything.

There is nothing to do after you finish personal story and done the things you enjoyed.

Im talking about content wise since all the content is pulled out due to Living World’s temp nature…

If they work on making more Story Missions, Personal Stories and Story dunegoens, jumping puzzles and such permanantly each month, the game would be expanding and thus having more to do. Specially for new and returning players.

It’s fine if it’s casual MMO, it’s not cool if content is taken away. Taking content away doesnt expand your game at all. It keeps it the same. You should be able to play any content you want at your own time and enjoy it at your own time. Not be forced to do it in a time frame.

Will (SAB) be permanent this time?

in Living World

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

SAB won’t be permanent next time, that is for sure.

Devs stated some times that if SAB and other events was permanent, the players would lose interest soon enough and then it wouldn’t be as exciting as it is now, when open.

Hopefully SAB will never be permanent.

Then I wont be able to play it when I wont to thus being more boring than exciting.
It should be permanent so new, and returning players can experience it as well as veterans like me who feel like playing it can enjoy it

Why have Story Dungeons & Personal Stories have been abanddoned?

The best way to tell a story is through these 2 contents.
The Living World is the worst way to tell a story due to it’s temporarily nature.
I want more story and adventure at my own time with challenge and I feel that the Personal Story, Story Dungeons and even the GW1 Story Missions were the best formula to tell a story. So what’s happening?

I wish ArenaNet would just tell us about this situation. It’s been 2 years now.

These kinds of conversations are important to have in the community since it helps the Developers see what direction the game is going and how their community reacts to their development.

It’s very beneficial for ArenaNet as a company to know were their customers/players are coming from as well as how they can improve or learn from their past mistakes to succeed in making fun and enjoyable contents that expands.

We’ll see what happens but that doesnt mean we cant discuss about it.

DreamyAbaddon.3265

ArenaNet needs to priorities in expanding the game not evolving the game.
Permanent content expands the game by adding more value to the game since they’ll always be there no matter what.

Permanent content such as:
(Personal Stories) – for in depth story telling and missions
(Story Dungeons) – New ones after Distiny’s edge story for lvl80s
(Explorable Dungoens) – New ones with 3 paths like the original
(Jumping Puzzles) – for more plat-former content
(Guild Missions) – More varieties of missions
(Skill challenges) – More different forms or puzzle/platformer would be interesting
(New Zones) – to explore in
(Minigames) – with their own rewards
(Vistas)
etc….

These contents should be added each month permanently to the game so more things to do for new and returning players will always be there.

They can also focus on some Evolution to the game like Lions Arch being destoryed and rebuilt and such. But keep story out of the Living World content since it does a bad job keeping content and doesn’t do a good job telling a compelling story for everyone to understand since people start the game at different times so character development becomes non-existence

I think Anet should release a whole bunch of temporary content in LS2, but call it “permanent” content………just to mess with the heads of a lot of the posters in this forum.

After all, they’ll never be happy with the game no matter what Anet delivers…..so might as well have some fun with ’em.

I am looking forward to LS2…….hopefully it will deliver some new areas to explore, some more fun events and story twists, and maybe some more content that steers away from mindless zerging.

Some updates and improvements to WvW would also be nice.

LOL I could totally see this happening on an April fools joke.
ArenaNet takes holidays seriously so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did.

1. Opening up with new permanent zones is awesome with tons of new Dynamic Events and jumping puzzle to experience.

2. Keeping contents permanent is exactly what I want so the game expands with more things to do instead of taking things to do out.

3. Experiencing the Story should always be part of the permanent content to allow everyone to experience it at their own time so character development is told properly.

But for now, assuming Season 2 will be like Season 1 in terms of temporary content driven story… I think it’s a big mistake…

DreamyAbaddon.3265

I was expecting more Personal Stories, Story Dungeons, Exploreable Dungeon, Jumping Puzzles, Dynamic events, and permanent content to explore new zones in that Nature, but instead, we get Living Story Season 2!? More Temporarily content?

You cant tell a good story through Temporarily contents because New players and returning players will have no idea what’s happening. They dont get the chance to see the character development in the story and worst of all, they dont get to experience the story at their own time.

People have work, people have lives and it’s cool to have permanent changes but it’s not cool to take away content and story within the game.

By making story contents permanent, you give people the chance to progress and explore the lore within playing the game. You let them play at their own time. This is why Personal Story idea works but Living story fails. Sure, the execution of the Personal Story wasn’t that great but it doesnt mean you cant improve with the tools you got, or make better tools for it.

If I cant play the content when I want and I’m forced to play it in a certain time frame to experience it and the story then I’m not having fun. And If I’m not having fun then I’m not going to do it. Thus, I’ll be missing out on a lot of Season 2 content just like I have with Season 1. Thanks again ArenaNet…

I highly recommend you to start out doing Competitive PvP instead of going the route of PvE to learn the combat and classes.

PvE and PvP are 2 different game modes.

You wont really learn much in PvE…
Most players from PvE don’t know the basics of combat until they do dungeons and/or fractals which would be lvl30.

If PvP is why you are here, start doing that instead since it will benefit you more in learning combat faster and doing the content you already love.

I recommend you check out this guide to learn about the essentials of combat in GW2:
