I kinda thought MOX would be the new golem for Taimi, though, although it was just a whim’s thought
hey atleast there is a chance for him to join Dragon’s Watch.
We have his Origin story in GW1 and now seems to be the time for him to finally forge his own story since in GW1 he joined after all the great threats had already ended thus never took part in the main storyline and adventures.
It would be even better if MOX has references to his time with the GW1 hero and maybe have a moment when the GW2 Hero can ask MOX about the GW1 hero.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Not to mention the return of a Certain GW1 Golem as well. How can so many not mention this loveable Golem’s return!
Hope he joins Dragon’s Watch because it time for him to join the GW2 hero just like his time with the GW1 Hero. Sad he could not bring his pet but I’m certain his little friend will be ok….. maybe.
Now we just need Razah to return and maybe join Dragon’s Watch.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
So the images and leaks you stated are removed…..
SPOILER Below! Cross this line and you will enter the SPOILER Zone!
As Balthy states “there is No Honor in War” then what does it truely mean to be a Warrior in GW2 if there is no Honor?
I like it because this was the type of map we were promised in HoT and with this map we use our HoT Mastery more. Travling around the place is actually very easy if you have access to the Thermal Mastery
He has lost his power and want that power back. it seems when the Human Gods left Tyria the ages without a direct connection to Tyria has weakened the Human Gods thus he has returned to reclaim the magical power he has lost.
I think most will spawn randomly.
So SPOILERS below! You are WARNED! No turning back once past this line into the SPOILER Zone.
So M.O.X. is back!
Do you think he may join Dragon’s Watch?
Will MOX pet spider be ok alone now MOX must leave him?
Will MOX get a new upgrade?
Will he have plenty of reference to GW1 hero?
If MOX returns could this also mean Razah is returning?
Where is Razah?!
So what do you all think about MOX and his return to GW series?
@Orpheal
I am not trying to be rude but I feel I must state this….
The way you describe Warrior of a Profession about Honor is what is called a Romanticize veiw.
Warriors of GW2 are not the warriors of stories where they would fight people honorably but are Combat and Weapon Masters.
In GW1 the world was at a age where Warriors focused more on the melee combat with their skills focused on always being in close range of their target while equipped with heavy armor to handle arrows and close range combat but technology back then had not developed far enough to create weapons that can easily pierce through Heavy Armor. However, the centuries has changed the world greatly and the Warriors needed to adjust to this changing world as technology advances thus the Warriors had to take up mastering new forms of combat to keep up with advancement of technology.
The introduction of Guns changed the field of battle greatly and development of weapons that can easily pierce through Heavy Armor at long range made things difficult to depend only on old style melee weapons. Warrior profession had to adjust to these changes and take up learning range weapons such as bows and rifles.
GW2 world is at that crossroad in a developing civilization life where the old style of fighting and new style of fighting are clashing with each other because the advancement of new weapons such as rifles are still within the new but is starting to out perform old style weapons as technology advance thus why we see more NPC Warriors using rifles in Krytan forces and the Charr forces.
I have a saying…
“Hero is just a word that people put on another for unnecessary expectations”
Eir was a warrior branded as one of the best for accomplishing something other chosen not to do but by branding her as a “Hero” people have forgotten that she is like everyone else at the core and can end up with even the most unheroic fates.
For the majority who only known her as this “Legend” they expect her to die like some “Hero”, “Champion”, “Legend”, “Warrior”, and etc but reality is she is not those things to herself and died as a neither of those things exaggerated by other people’s idea of what she should have been through only stories they heard. To herself she is a mother and a person who took up arms againt the Elder Dragon for revenge for murdering her father. Her ’legend" known by others was told to be one of virture and heroic deed to save the world but the true nature was that of revenge in the beginning hidden behind the ideal of creating her own “legend”.
But wait, rangers are also trap dropping shortbow specialists. Core Thieves have both traps and shortbows.
Is there an identity swap there too?
What about warhorns and shouts? Warriors, rangers, necromancers and elementalists.
sword and physical? thieves and warriors.
staff and glyphs? rangers and elementalists.
There’s no ‘identity swap’ happening here, because the themes are separate, despite similarly based weapons and skill types. The theme of a ranger is ‘naturalist combatant with a pet’, that doesn’t change with the ranger having a staff and using more nature magic than they already did, and that won’t change if they get access to rifles, scepters or hammers. Thieves are ‘stealthy combatants with some shadowy magic capability’ and they can absolutely find a way to use a greatsword or hammer. Guardians don’t stop being ‘light wielding strategic combatants’ just because they use longbows and traps and it actually fits them thematically, because you can better reach a flying combatant with a longbow than you can with a sword, and traps are an extremely useful strategic tool.
There’s no identity swap because the theme stands strong.
Yep the main focus of Elite Specs is not the Utility skills as those are just additions mostly to provide a new set of utility people may find interests in.
The main focus of the Elite Specs is adding and adjusting the Profession’s core system such as how Dragonhunter’s Virtue was adjust from buffs into offensive/defensive active skills and Reaper changed the Necros Death Shroud into a more melee DPS focus Reaper Shroud.
Professions such as Warrior, Mesmer, Engineer, and Elementalist got extensions to their core profession system without changing the system’s functions such as Engineer got F button for Auto res and finisher which adds a additional tool to their tools, Mesmer got a additional Illusion shatter system, Elementalist got to overload their current Elements for powerful attacks, and Warrior has a stronger Rage Mode called Berserk Mode when they max their rage.
Weapons are also additions made to provide additional weapon option and a unique experience that is unique to the Profession such as how Thief use Staff as a Melee weapon or maybe one day a Short-bow Elite Spec is introduced using Power Build set up. Maybe even go the extra mile and introduce a melee Secpter or maybe a Melee Focus main hand weapon unique to that specific Profession due to the Elite Spec.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
@ EdwinLi
I think it would work for any profession, regardless of how many weapons they already have.
Sure, I get that it’s possible to make up some junk about why any weapon could be used by any profession, afterall, they’ve already done it, my point is that maybe it’s not such a good idea to.
Do we really need to have every profession use every weapon? To me that just waters down the professions. The profession started with a pretty solid identity that was easy to understand. Long before people try out GW2 they know what most of the professions do. Anyone remotely familiar with a fanstasy concept knows what a warrior, a ranger or an elementalist is. The names themselves confirm an identity.
Each new Elite spec waters down that identity. More choice isn’t always better imo.
The concept of Elite Spec is not to water down the identity but to build on current identity or introduce a new identity to each profession.
Anet has introduced two types of Elite Specs being Extension and Unique.
Extension Elite Specs simply adds on to the core profession mechanic such as Scrapper, berserker, Chronomancer, and Tempest without changing the core function of the Profession’s mechanic while Unique Elite Spec gives it a new identity unique to that specific elite spec by changing the core profession mechanics and/or skills to a new one that function differently from the Core profession such as Dragonhunter, Reaper and Druid.
For example, Engineer can get a New Elite Spec that changes the function of their toolbelt into a skill that changes the Main Weapon skills thus turning the toolbelt into a "Ammo"belt. Yes they lose their toolbelt identity to use extra skills based on their Utility skills but in exchange they gain new set of skills per main weapon being pistols, rifles, shield, and the elite spec weapon.
A Guardian Virtue could be changed from buffs into attack skills (which Dragon hunter did) or Stances which affect the Guardian by certain benefits through offensive, defensive, or support means.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
The problem is that this would mostly only work for Professions that have a lot of weapons already and most likely Warrior may be the first profession to obtain a new Elite Spec that changes the gameplay style of a core profession weapon.
Each profession has the potential to use all weapons in this game but in their own unique way.
Engineer, for example, has the potential to use weapons such as Staff for a Technomancer Elite Spec, Focus (Main/off hand) for a Psychic Elite Spec (Mental energy and using the law of Physics) by using the Focus as a conduit for Psychic Energy, and Scepter Elite Spec by modifying and adjust to be like a stun baton.
This would have been my forever choice of outfit for my character forever if this was released but sadly looks like it will never arrive.
Look on the bright side, more players are now playing Engineer. :p
Jokes aside…
Ya I saw that a few days ago. Thought it was a leather run group but when I arrived I see a legion of Engineers with turrets in several spots creating a massive fortress of death.
The “Option” to focus on Main Hand weapon only that you describe won’t be a reality in PvE scenarios unless you give the Engi new Utility Skills that match the Kits in terms of DPS and/or Utility, such as party-wide buffs akin to Warrior Banners or Druid Glyphs. And if that’s the case, you really don’t need to copy/paste Elementalist onto Engineer’s Toolbelt skills anyways, better to focus on entirely new gameplay in that case.
Honestly, the only way I see Engineer providing more non-kit focus gameplay is for Engineer to get new gameplay styles from future Elite Specs. However, by how the profession is designed it most likely may get new gameplay by adjusting the Toolbelt (F1 to F5) into new unique system exclusive to the Elite Spec. I did not mention utility because I rather not go into assuming all viable Elite Specs that can finally move away kit depended gameplay style would require massive amount of buffs and healing utility since it is still possible with the right adjustments to gameplay that the new Elite Spec Utility can still function with decent Damage Utility skills.
Scrapper was a nice addition to Engineer but it was a Extension Elite Spec designed to add a little something extra on a already existing gameplay style, being the F button for auto res and finisher, rather than changing the core system of Engineer being their Toolbelts. The new utility being drones are nice but they still felt more as extension to Engineer’s Core Profession design.
Yes trying to beat the current “Meta” in PvE will be near impossible since the community has established Kits being 100% required to meet the “Meta” damage rate for endgame content but the funny thing about “Meta” standards is that they only remain Meta until someone else decide to diverge from it and discover something of equal or greater value.
Now back to Elite Specs…
From here it is most likely we may see future Elite Specs changing Gameplay styles of Engineer by adjusting the Toolbelt into new functions that may adjust gameplay style to focus less on kits and more on using the new Toolbelt system. The way I see it Anet has set up two types of Elite Specs being the Extension Elite Specs that only add on to Core profession current gameplay style (being Scrapper, Tempest, Berserker, Chronomancer, and Revenant) and the Unique Elite Spec that changes and adjust the core system into a new set of skills and functions thus changing the gameplay style (such as Reaper, Druid, and Dragonhunter).
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
They’re always around….
at the corner of your eyes where you never look.
I remember but the impact does not hold much because I stay in DR most of my time when I shop and stuff.
It would be nice if Anet create a future Storyline that actually has our character return to their Personal Story Home to see the long term outcome of our character choices before they left to join their chosen Order.
However, I doubt this may happen now that they created the future storyline to allow players to skip the Zhaitan Arc because this would require players to go through the first three chapters of the Zhaitan Arc being their Character’s Background story chapters.
The problem with all these solutions is that they don’t actually get Worse when you add kits to them. If we’re talking DPS, they’d just get better because you get powerful weapon skills with unique cooldowns to add to your rotations. Kits are always going to have a place on any Engineer’s Utility Bar in PvE. There will most likely always be at least 1 in PvP because Engi lacks weapon swap, as well.
Also, only so many ways you can reliably change their Toolbelt Skills, as they’ve got some traits hinging on them working as they are right now.
Your best bet for a Non-Kit Engi is probably a Support kit of some kind, with Utilities and Mechanics designed to buff or Heal (or both) allies similar to a Druid.
It is not about making a gameplay style worse using a kit but providing more options into Engineer’s gameplay style so that player have more options not to depend on Kits for 90% of their gameplay.
There will be kits in majority of builds but really most players only use 1 or 2 skills from majority of the kits they have on.
that way Engineer can have a better choice between focusing only on main weapon thus using all their utility skills for something not a Kit, Mix between Main Weapon and kits, or focusing only on kits for combat.
As of now majority of gameplay for Engineer is focus on kits for combat or mixing their main weapon with kits but few options for focusing only on Main Weapon only.
A new Elite Spec that changes the toolbelt into a “Main Weapon Kits” that change the Main Weapon’s skills based on which F1 to F4 or F5 skill chosen may provide far more room for the option to focus only on Main hand weapon and using utility only for other utility skills not a Kit.
Of course this will also add more options to the “Mix Main Weapon/Kit” option and “Kit Only” option in gameplay style as well if the player can handle the new set of 15 or 20 news skills for each Main Weapon and elite spec weapon with the other skills in each kits.
You mean like Scrapper with hammer?
Honestly the Hammer was introduced to be Engineer’s first main hand melee weapon and was nice but it fell into the “Mix between Main hand and Kit” option because it was a Melee range weapon and Kits still had to be depended on for the Range combat if Scrappers wanted to cover both Range and Melee or help break a breakbar.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
While we’re dreaming, I’d like to ride around on a dinosaur wearing a mecha-suit.
I would it not call dreaming since the F skills (F1 to F5) have a lot of potential to be changed in different ways to introduce new unique functions for each future elite specs.
One way it can be changed is to change the Main weapon equipped such as Rifle, Pistol, Shield, and Elite Spec weapon into new set of skills unique to each weapon.
Another could be that it is changed into a type of Kit system with each F skills from F1 to F5 being a type of unique kit for the new Elite Spec for a Kit focused Elite Spec.
There are plenty of ways the F1 to F5 skills can be changed in future Elite spec to suit different play styles that both depend on Kits and not depend on Kits but it is up to Anet which playstyle they want to introduce.
Would I have built Engineer from the ground up differently (thanks to hindsight!), yes.
Would I ask them to rework nades/bombs now, no.Making major playstyle changes years into a game would be a mistake. That said I’d love for some of the “engineer-y” skills (gadgets/turrets mainly) get some actual power and purpose.
Honestly, as I said in past posts, the best way to provide Engineer a new playstyle that does not depend 90% on kits, such as bombs and grenade kit, as it is now is to introduce a Elite Spec that focus more on the Main Weapons such as a Technomancer Elite Spec or maybe a Psychic Elite Spec.
Psychic Elite Spec would be interesting because it would use the mental attacks and the laws of physics to battle enemies using the Engineer’s technology to access these powers. It would also make a good Focus Main Hand Weapon Elite Spec for Engineer.
As of now current playstyle depends on Kits because there is very few means to focus on Main Weapon for decent damage.
A New Elite Spec that changes the function of the Toolbelt (aka F skills) into a new system such as maybe Psychics use the F skills to switch into 3 different Forms that change the Main Weapon being Statics, Dynamics, and Synergetics with each providing the Main Weapon, rifle, pistols, shield, and elite spec weapon Focus, a new set of skills.
The F4 skill can activate a 4th set of skills, called Eternal, more powerful than Statics, Dynamics, and Synergetics skills but is limited on time and has its own energy bar to show how much time they can use the F4 form skills.

No as the design look does not fit into the type of appearances I am looking for.
Too much focus on being a very spikey and boney armor but it would look great on a Thief.
God I hope their goal isn’t to continue power creep, especially on damage. That’s how you trivialize old content, which is specifically a goal of ANet’s to avoid, at least I thought.
Doubt anything will change on 2nd elite spec.
It will be the same process of people complaining “this” and “That” is too OP for their Meta Build and then comes nerfs on Professions that don’t need it because they needed the new update to their abilities and then people complain about the nerf about it being too much and the cycle repeats again.
Engineer, however, can’t really complain for a new Elite Spec that provides new Damage boost because Engineer really needs a damage boost as it is at the bottom of the barrel and is suffering from constant nerfs due to Meta Players complaining the HoT update and adjust that were just fine for Engineer made them too OP for their Meta build to handle.
A new spec focused on healing or boon support, that would be my dream… (i wanna be a medic with the med kit kitten)
Doubt they will release a new Support/Healing Heavy Elite spec for the 2nd Elite Spec since they said they will not make the mistake of releasing a High Healing and High defensive Elite Spec again that can be abused to make a player character Immortal by spamming the Healing and Defensive buffs.
There was a massive abuse issue with 1st elite specs that give certain professions to make themselves immortal or their entire party members immortal in battle if they properly used their AoE Healing and Buff skills which lead to a major complaint and massive nerf patches near the beginning of HoT so players that spammed the new benefits 1st Elite Specs give to certain profession’s Buffs and Healing could be killed in PvP and WvW.
As of now expect the 2nd Elite Specs to focus more on Damage.

This thread makes me sad. I was considering rolling an Engi again and actually trying to make it work. I loved the class long time ago with all it’s toys but i really sucked at it and was never comfortable.
I main a Warrior now and was hoping for something more unique. Now I understand why I never see an Engi when playing through PvE.
Don’t be sad because as of currently Engineer has the Highest Condition Damage in the game which is why it is still useful in Raids for heavy condition damage.
The problem is for Engineer though is that it does not provide much options with gameplay style if players want to perform the peak damage output which once again is Engineer’s Condition Damage.
Power damage is lacking and the Scrapper Elite Spec did not do much with providing a new experience for Engineer compared to the other elite specs. Scrapper unique function was just adding the F button to have auto res and auto finisher.
Only way I see Engineer getting popular beyond the small amount of the community that see the unique potential for Engineer’s future gameplay and Elite Specs is to release a new Elite Spec that provides a new unique experience for Engineer that does not require them to depend so greatly on kits as Engineer depends on now.
Also, when Players play their character they want to play as something that actually use their Main Weapon most of the time but with Engineer 90% of gameplay for the best outcome in damage results is to depend on Kits.

People expect Scarlet but it is Dio!
Taimi is currently the only person ahead in Dragon’s Research because before the Zhaitan Arc the Arcane Council has been murdering anyone who discovered the threat of the Elder Dragons as we learned in the Personal Story of Asura Intro Arcs.
From what we learned so far the Arcane Council are still doing this in hopes to keep the majority of Rata Sum’s population ignorant of what is happening from beyond Rata Sum and believing if the Elder Dragon’s win they will be “Perfectly” safe in Rata Sum when the reality is they most likely will all die.
The only safe place for Asuras trying to run and prove certain Elder Dragon’s research so the world have a better chance at fighting them is the Pact or surviving on their own far from Rata Sum. If anyone of them try to return to Rata Sum with proof then the Arcane Council will make them disappear.
So far Taimi has not been a target of the Arcane Council because the research she provided was to fix the Waypoints. The Arcane Council do not know yet that Taimi has dug into Elder Dragon research which is most likely why they have not sent anyone from the Arcane Eye (the Arcane Council’s secret service) to “take care” of Taimi and her research.
Did anyone else actually google “flashpoint”?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashpoint_There has to be two timelines. My guess is that Lazarus is . . . . . . . Kasmeer. In the future, Kasmeer went back in time to impersonate Lazarus and save the world. What we are seeing in the trailer is “present day” Kasmeer seeing Kasmeer of the future/the Lazarus impersonator for the first time.
flashpoint
noun
1. a place, event, or time at which violence or hostility flares up.
2. Chemistry: the temperature at which a particular organic compound gives off sufficient vapour to ignite in air.
Another dictionary definition fo Flashpoint is
“a critical point or stage at which something or someone suddenly causes or creates some significant action”
This fits the episode name being this is a critical point/stage in the storyline which “lazarus” suddenly causes/creates a significant action that will lead into episode 6 and the beginning of the 2nd expansion in episode 6.
wow sadly this one is already debunked
Not Lazarus but she knows who Lazarus is.
Looks like we’ll finally get to see what Rata Novus was hiding.
Hopefully Taimi used this time to make good on her Scruffy 2.0 plans: “Weapons! Lots of weapons!”
Honetly I won’t be surprised if we have to wait until the 2nd expansion to see it. We have seen little sign that she has actually been building Scruffy 2.0 beyond “I am still working on it” saying.
Though it would be interesting if Scruffy 2.0 reveal was actually Engineer 2nd Elite Spec reveal.
I… can’t… stop… seeing… the trailer…. over… and over… and overrr…. again.
slap Snap out of it man! slap
The time is here!
kasmeer returns and the Truth is revealed!
Seems Kasmeer knows the identity of “Lazarus”
asura because you’re hard to see even if not in stealth.
still considered one of the best MMOs today.
orignally I was not going to buy HoT until a discount time happened because I was concerned there was not many content for a expansion.
However, it introduced things I wanted to see such as expanding profession’s gameplay and new maps so I decided to buy it.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Eh, I’d rather not see what happened to SB what happened to LB with DH (superior to LB Ranger just about every way, and it was supposed to be a signature weapon for Ranger).
Anet plz just rethink Ranger’s SB and make Thief’s SB more than just a utility weapon.
Dont worry Ranger will shine again when we get Rifle.
honetly the Dragonhunter incident was mostly due to how there was no story set up for a Guardian using a Longbow weapon and the name for the Elite Spec did not releate to a Guardian in anyway.
A Power type Short-bow Elite Spec will certainly not take away Ranger and Thief postion as the Shortbow Condition Profession and having a proper name related to the Core Profession will certainly be more accepted than Dragon Hunter was.
or pistol according to leaks
I am curious why kind of function this Pistol Elite Spec may have for Ranger in both utility and main unique gameplay fucntion if this is the next elite spec.
As for short-bow elite spec, I personally think Short-bow being the Engineer’s trapper Elite Spec fits far more than Guardian’s Dragon Hunter elite spec because making traps is still a type of Engineering skill.
Though the Elite Specs unique function will be in question but maybe the unique function could be ammo adjustment function where the Toolbelt, F1 to F5 skills, are replaced into Special Ammo toolbelt which each Ammo changing the Main Weapon’s skills into new skills based on what Ammo the Engineer uses.
Of course that would mean Engineer will have 5 sets of different skills for Rifle, Pistols, Shield, and Short-bow each but think of this as the “Kits” for Primary weapons so Engineer can focus on using their utility slots for their things other than kits such as their Traps and other Utility skills hardly used because they needed to sacrifice room for Kits as Scrapper and Core Profession.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
I am curious how Mace can be handled in the other professions that do not have them yet.
SB is meta for thief in wvw and pvp, and it’s meta for condi ranger for raids, literally one of the best weapons available atm, next to the torch or the scepter.
Wouldn’t this basically imply that Short-bow needs some love for a Power style build? Its only use fall into conditional damage only build and as a result not many people use Short-bows because Power build is still favored more than condition builds due to faster direct damage to the target.
Though it would be interesting if they can create a Short-bow elite spec that has a rounded damage focus on both Power and Condition damage thus giving players the choice between focusing on Power, Condition or Both styles of damage which would also give players choices between Berserker (High direct damage but low condition), Sinister (High condition but low direct damage), or Viper (a bit of both for a rounded damage to handle a enemy that can either be high in defense against direct damage or condition damage)
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
I personally run my own build design being this condition build
The elixirs are great for fast removal of conditions and adding more damage reduction and Bulwark Gyro is good for defense against range attackers and reduce damage taken
Viper gear can be used as well if you worry about future elite specs that may use both Condition and/or Power damage to help reduce future cost of adjust your gears to that new elite spec.
So with the revealing of 2nd Expansion most likely a few more episodes away, if lucky maybe reveal this upcoming episode,…
Do you think Shortbow weapon needs more love by introducing a Short-bow Elite Specualization for a Profession?
If so which profession do you think may get it?
For me I think any Professions that does not have shortbow, except Guardian since it just got the longbow elite spec, yet would be fine as long it makes Short-bow used more within the playbase while also being fun to use.
Even if it means giving it to Engineer 2nd Elite Spec or maybe a Elementalist, Mesmer, Necromancer, Warrior, or Revenant.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Free Black Lion keys is very good reason to start hitting those other characters.
@EdwinLi.1284, yeah i know when the balanced word is used, i see it as “decent and fair enough” gameplay.
I mostly hope the new elite spec is something that can provide a decent amount of gameplay styles.
Maybe start motivating people who play Engineer to not depend so much on Kits only. I know Kits is a vital part of Engineer’s gameplay but that is mostly because Engineer has few choices involving builds.
reason i feel like if the cleaves got removed from all auto atacks the would be abotu less spam and feel more “balanced”.
The way area spam works in this game is what makes the game unbalanced and ugly(watching pvp), and watch pve videos is far worse…its like a torture of lights. But sometimes Anet borks things even furthers due how classes need to behave and feel in pve.
I think it is the way the game is designed at fault for the AoE Happy gameplay style. The game does not favor single target attacks because there is always a swarm of enemies attacking the player in PvE which makes it demanding for a lot of AoE attacks access for the player to handle it. Of course this choice gets carry over to the PvP aspect and balancing the PvP and PvE needs gets very mixed in design choices.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Dont worry ANet will make it imbalanced to be loved, or make other stuff very bad so that will be your unique option for quitre some time…
I have a saying when it comes to newly released Jobs/Classes/Professions/Elite Specs and that is….
“A new Jobs/Classes/Professions/Elite Specs can only be one of two things. it is either completely overpowered and people complain it is too powerful and ask for it to be nerfed or it is to underpowered and people complain it is too weak and ask for it to be buffed. If someone ask about balance then tell them that does not exist”
in reality there is no such thing as Balanced when it comes to classes/jobs/professions/elite specs/etc. because they can make the most 100% Balanced Elite Spec in this game and people will say it is too overpowered or underpowered and demand it get buffed or nerfed just because people can not beat it or the majority just used the most broken overpowered build set up to murder it a few times when a certain amount of people can still beat the most OP broken build using that 100% balanced profession/elite spec because they put effort into understanding how it works instead of mindlessly mashing every single skill button without knowing what each skill does hoping it would be enough to burn down a targets HP.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Honestly i am strongly skeptical about Engineer getting a mace Elite Specialization as the 2nd Elite Spec because we just got a builder type Elite Spec as our first elite spec being Scrapper which use Hammer.
It’s an engineer. Everything about it is about building.
I don’t think we are EVER going to get Focus, Warhorn, or Torch mainhand, nor new weapon types – the impact on how the entire game’s itemization is structured would be too much.
Focus Main hand weapon for Engineer is possible. We just have to use Engineering to add a few modifications so it can harness energies and maybe turn that energy into holo-“illusion” that cause physical harm through direct and/or condition.
Engineering is about building thing but I think it is about time Engineer use that building talent to modify a weapon people don’t expect to be possible weapon for Engineer into their own unique use such as Focus being a Holographic generator that can create Dynamic, Static, and Synergetic Holo-“illusion” to attack enemies.
It is part of being a Engineer to find ways to turn things not possible into something possible through Engineering. Such as how Engineer has modified Pistols and Rifles into shooting different type of ammunition that would normally be impossible if those weapons were used normally and how Shields were modified to use electic fields for protection when normally it would be a bad ideal to put some that can conduct electricty such as metal, is attached to a person, and electricity together.
Heck the Hammer was originally going to be modified to be a Rocket Hammer using a Rocket modification for Scrapper until it was changed to what it is now but a small amount of Rocket mod still appears on the Hammer when using some skills as left over concept design left in.
Also i am not talking about introducing new weapons into the game as I already know Anet plans to only keep the current weapons and adjust their function to each profession based on the Elite Spec.
I am talking about using Engineer’s talents to create and modify things on current weapons, such as Focus, Sceptors, Staff, sword, axe, short-bow and etc., into weapons that they can use in their own unique ways similar to how Thief use staff for melee weapon or Revenant use Hammer as a Range weapon.
heck even if the 2nd elite spec is a Mace weapon it is not going to be a normal mace that use used to build things. That Mace is going to be Modified with a modification that cause it to function in a unique way such as maybe add a Electric Modification for it to shock enemies it hits like a Electric Baton or Explosion modification to cause it to create small explosions whenever it hits a enemy to represent someone hitting things like hot metal to forge something into a shape.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Honestly i am strongly skeptical about Engineer getting a mace Elite Specialization as the 2nd Elite Spec because we just got a builder type Elite Spec as our first elite spec being Scrapper which use Hammer.
I would prefer a weapon that has been modified through Engineering instead another building tool as a weapon.
Such as Focus main hand weapon that is modified to create Holo-weapons for melee range attacks or a Electric charged melee staff or maybe a Scepter modficed with a type of Energy Modification for energy melee attacks.
Maybe even a modifed Acid Axe, Heat modificed Greatsword, or Energy modified Sword. They could even go for Short-bow or Long-bow using modified tech arrows.
(PS a part of me feels like the demand for a Mace Elite Spec is just so Engineer can use that Wrench skin for Mace.)
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Honestly the only way I see Engineer to get out of its position as bottom of the barrel is for Anet to give Engineer a very good Elite Specialization that can finally remove the demand to depend on kits for 90% of the Profession’s gameplay.
As nice as kits are majority of the builds and gameplay style of Engineer has been put too much focus on the Kits instead of Engineer’s main weapon.
My #1 concern will be Engineer’s 2nd Elite Specialization and hope it turns out good for a Condition Damage build.
We got the Power type Elite Specualization with Scrapper and a melee Power weapon but now Engineer is missing a melee Condition Weapon.
Though i’m good if they can get creative with thing like Focus, sword, greatsword, or staff for engineer.
mace is at the bottom of my list because we already gotten a Hammer theme Elite Spec with Scrapper.
Oh my sure that eventually engi is gonna have a condi elite.
Honestly a Melee Condition Elite Spec for Engineer is on my top 3 things I am waiting for in GW2.
So far Engineer has pistol for Range Condition Damage, Rifle for Range Power damage, and Hammer for Melee Power Damage.
There are plenty of options on what they can use for a Condition Melee Weapon from Sword, Greatsword, Staff, Mace, and maybe even Focus as a Main-hand weapon by modification that use energy.
Though Mace I would prefer that they release as a Elite Specialzation later maybe in 3rd expansion or 4th expansion because Hammer already provided the Builder type weapon and certain people only want Mace because of that one wrench skin that Mace has already.
The other weapons have their potential because as Engineers they can put on weapon modifications for the weapons to perform in ways that people would normally only expect to be possible with the use of Magic such as adding a Heat Modification on Greatsword for a type of Fire/Heat theme Elite Specialization or even a Energy modification on Staff or Sword for a Energy user Elite Specialization.
Or maybe put Energy Elite Specialization on Focus weapon Elite Spec with the mechanic of that Elite Spec to be the “Scarlet” Elite Spec involving use of abilities similar to Scarlet’s powers over her holo-clones and even allow focus to Manifest Holo-fists and claws to attack enemies in melee range.

So out of curiosity…
What kind of Elite Spec do you think a Shortbow and Longbow Elite Spec may have as their Elite Speculization function in both weapon function and Utility skills?
My #1 concern will be Engineer’s 2nd Elite Specialization and hope it turns out good for a Condition Damage build.
We got the Power type Elite Specualization with Scrapper and a melee Power weapon but now Engineer is missing a melee Condition Weapon.
Though i’m good if they can get creative with thing like Focus, sword, greatsword, or staff for engineer.

new specialisation: Tybalt
granade kit is changed to bag of apples
1: throw apple (aoe dmg)
2: throw bad apple (poison field)
3: fake apple (explo finisher and dmg)
4: good apple (aoe heal + some apples on the ground that give regeneration)
5: flash apple (aoe blind for all that look in its direction)
That reminds me how I would greatly love the ability to change kit skins into a new type of skin without changing the function of the kit such as giving a Exploding Apple Kit as a new skin for Grenade Kit.
Anet has the ability to give Engineer extra customization options by providing a option to choose new skins for kits but that would be considered unfair since the other Professions may not get their own Profession specifc customization options.
